6:07 That is the point the Black posters here are trying to make. A Black person seems to always be expected to follow the "pin drop rule" but not White people. Any person who says they have Black blood is automatically considered Black. Any White person who says they have Black blood is automatically considered Black.White is the "untainted". Blacks did not perpetuate this system. What the Black posters here are saying is why is it more White people are not breaking the pin drop rule? because if they do, they are no longer seen as White - socially, economically and otherwise. Please don’t say Blacks perpetuate this system. They don’t. They have no control over this system. the same can be said for Jews socially. The moment someone has Jewish blood they are no longer considered WASP or fully White.

take a look at the Henry Louis Gates Jr. documentary that’s been airing on PBS. There’s a White professor in it who has been able to trace various points of hertiage for different people (including Oprah and Chris Tucker). He tells them if they have traces of Asian, Native American, or European heritage. To prove that he’s studied it broadly, he tells the viewers what he is: apparently he has 11 percent African heritage, though he’s White. When Skip Gates jokingly asks him how his mother felt at the news, he said, "we argued about it. She didn’t take it well".See, White people don’t want to know if they have Black blood in them (except for that professor/scientist). Everybody on this stream is Black, talking about: I got A, B, and C up in me.I still haven’t heard one White person add to the "mix".Now why are some of you peeps still defending White people, when they haven’t even stepped up to the plate yet (and if they do, it’s one sole White Guy at Oxford University — as removed from American sociopolitics as you can get).

First of all, both Tyson and Naomi’s parents are Jamaicans, they are both first generation immigrants,so is Wentworth Miller, actually only one of his parent is Jamaican. In Jamaica you are one thin and one thing only Jamaican,it is here in the states, that terms like Chinese Jamaican, Indian Jamaican,Black Jamaican Exists. All races are represented in Jamaica with Black(if there is such a thing) being the dominant race. A lot of Jamaicans are mixed. So the both probably have one parent that has Chinese in them, but both their parents are Jamaicans. Not one being from China and the other from Jamaica. The Chinese in Jamaica have no real ties to China,in the same way The Black people have no real ties to Africa. Yes there is no such thing as African Jamaican or Jamaican American. The motto of the country is Out of Many One People.

I am half half White and Half Black and when I went to Ocho Rios, the Jamaicans would say weird things like nice skin or call me yellowgirl or nice hair - just preferring my light skin to my dark girlfriends who went on the vacation with me. Most Jamaicans are dark skinned, Black. A small minority is Asian, White, Indian. Anyway, people were acting really weird toward me and I think it is sad. I think they were very color struck. I never experienced anything like that before. I was expecting to feel something different going to a black country but instead it was worst. People were very direct about jokes they made about my girlfriends’ skin color. Also guys there seemed to prefer light skinned women. At the club, etc. I guess here too, it is the same thing. Anyway, I am Irish and Black but I am Black for all intents and purposes. And my parents approve. I actually years ago met ALice Walker’s daughter who is half White too. She was part of a whole group I hung with in Brooklyn, NY. Anyway she is very grounded in being black eventhough she is half Jewish. I am impressed by that. The black community needs her more than the Jewish community she believed.

I am so sick of Jamaicans coming to America and complaining about our racial structure here. People, they have problems of race in their own country, believe me. If it is so bad here, why are you here? Why not leave? Go to Jamaica and enjoy it! Or shut the **** up.As for Naomi: You know that ***** has identity problems with that weave she never takes off and those hazel eye contacts. She is so fake. Why is her hair so bone straight? Cause she is so proud of being who she is, right? That’s why she fought with Tyra Banks. ***** was jealous Tyra had real hair. **** Naomi.

Bruce Lee @ 03/03/2006 at 1:42 am

Since Tyson is part Chinese, maybe Zhang Yimou, the director of great Chinese films or Ang Lee director of Crouching Tiger can put him as the lead in their next Chinese film.Maybe he can play Mao Tse Tung in the epic biopic about the Revolutionary Chinese leader. I think we should take a poll in China and let the people vote. I am sure they would approve. Not like the Egytians who were up in arms that Lou Gossett Jr., a black man, played Anwar Sadat in the TV movie.I think it is time that actors of Chinese heritage like Tyson Beckford get used more in films about their homeland. Maybe Naomi can play Mae Tse Tung’s wife.

1st generation African @ 03/03/2006 at 8:32 am

Mikey, Tyra has worn a weave for as long as Naomi has. Or did you happen to miss Fresh prince back in the days or AmericaNTModel LOL - Allow the hating :)Naomi rocks and as a black woman myself believe when i say that I can terrorise your claat with the best of them. Black women are razor sharp and I applaud that. Bruce lee, your comment made me laugh hee heeI am African and as black as night. My daughter is ‘mixed race’. Her father is white european. But she has been claimed by her Black family. If she gets older and feels her white family as embraed her as equally, it is up to her to define herself as she see’s fit. She is exactly the same complexion as my Mother and older sister ( Both also black African but ‘pale’). When She goes out with her nana you wouldn’t bat an eyelid but I guess you could look twice if she was with me. I bring my child up the way I was. As a black child. But she lives in a western culture where I and my ‘kind’ are in the minority. I don’t feel like I am held back by my colour. Yes, I might end up in prison quicker than my white counterparts, I might get kicked out of school easier than my white peers and I might be put in a mental hospital without justification (!) but at the end of the day the victim/oppressed mentality is old and boring. You do not define me, i define myself.Lastly, I just want to say that Naomi is beautiful and so is Tyson. I especially think this because they are dark just like me and the ‘majority’ of black people that populate the world. This is just my personal OP of course.

Bun N' Cheese Girl @ 03/03/2006 at 11:38 am

Bruce Lee at 1:42 AM, you had me rolling on the floor. LMAO! Too funny. Did everybody read that.Ok, I wanted to make a point. I know where Naomi and Tyson are coming from and it’s weird. I am Jamaican. I was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica. It is near Kingston. Most tourists go to the other side of the island. Anyway, I know how racist a lot of my fellow Jamaicans can be. We have serious problems on our island. I left after JHS and High School but it will always be the place I love most in the world, don’t get me wrong. I will die a Jamaican and I want to be buried in my beautiful Island and I want my last meal to be dumplins and saltfish :)That said, I hate the social system of my country. Black people favor light skin and wavy hair. Women used to say to dark skin children, press her hair and it’s too nappy. We used to look at people’s neckline to see what their hair type was like. No matter how much you straighten a nappy person’s hair, Jamaicans would say, you can tell how "good the hair is" by the rolls of nappy on their neckline. In schools, some teachers would favor the light skinned kids. Men married the lighter skinned women. It was a sign of social status. Don’t get me started on how homophobic our culture can be (Buju Banton and his Gay bashing). Yellowman, the Albino singer, had a song called "Don’t bend down" - very homophobic. Also lots of sexism. There was a famous song in the 80’s called "Give me Punani" which means "Give me a girls’ private part, if you know what I mean".We have a lot of social problems in our country. Jamaicans want to pretend they have no racism in our country. They want to look good in front of the world. They want to pretend they are better than the other people from the Islands. Jamaicans have a long standing feud with "Trinnies" Trinidadians and other black Islanders. The Asians and Indians in our country don’t really intermarry with Blacks. They called Indians "coolies". i have a friend who is Coolie and she hates Blacks. She says she wants to make sure she has a kid whose hair she does not have to perm in other words a kid with "good hair".I have another friend of mine who looks mulatto but is not and she always siad "I dont want to waste my light on him" meaning I don’t want to date a "darkie" - she wanted to lighten the race. In public, aall races in Jamaica pretend they get along but I have had the luxury of going into the homes of people of different races there and behind closed doors, they all hate each other - at the bottom of the hate are the Black Jamaicans. Mst jamaicans are dark skinned people with Afrocentric features. Yet, the small minority of non-dark people dsicriminate against them.Jamaicans have a fixation with the British eventhough they can admit the brutal system that the British subject them to. Everyone wants to speak good British English. I don’t see how my country will change if no one is admitting to these problems. It saddens me. I still love Jamaica though because it is where my Nanna is and it is where my childhood is. However, I hate the racism there. Then Jamaicans come to the United States and hate African-Americans. They say African-Americans have issues or a chip on their shoulder. I think what I respect inAfrican- Americans is they are not afraid to talk about the issues. Jamaicans, like the British, want to sweep it under the rug. Besides, as a Jamaican, I have benefited from the Civil Rights mvement and all the struggles of the African-Americans. I live in this country freely because of them. I cannot criticize. Lastly, I think Jamaicans want to claim their country is free of racism because they want to feel as if they are an "other" and not just Black people. jamaicans’ biggest fear sometimes is to be seen just as "Black people". They wnat to be more and the way many do that is by denying there are Black people problems in our country.Jamaica basically has a caste system and I wonder when it is going to go away. That is why people like Tyson and Naomi hold on to whatever bit of mixed blood they have. They are part of a culture that is very preoccupied with being mixed when in fact most people in Jamaica are not mixed - they claim to be. Most are simply Black but so many have a hard time accepting this.I don’t know if this problem will ever go away but every opportunity I have to edcuate my "bretheren" on these issues I do. If I can’t change my whole island maybe I can change one person.

Interesting, but I don’t agree on a lot of this.Tyson’s mother is Chinese and how do you think she would feel if he didn’t claim his half-chinese side? Equally my mother is Japanese and although I might not look it, I am very close to my Japanese side and always make sure to state the fact that I’m half Japanese too. My mother is my rock and I would never want my children or grandchildren to forget their Japanese heritage or black/white, etc. What you are should make you proud. I also think it’s APALLING in countries where you have to tick your race whenever you fill out a form, that is literally disgusting. Anyway, there are so many people out there who probably also are tired of being put in a box although they might be closer to their mother who might be black/Chinese/white..Amerie is half Korean and I know Korean mothers are very close to their kids, so why wouldn’t she want to say she’s half Korean, or Tiger Woods for that sake. Let people express who they are or not are-it’s their own choice! Black is beautiful, but who you are and where you come from should never be forgotten.

I get where you are coming from Trina above, Tyson is not half Chinese though. He just has Chinese in him but neither of his direct parents are fully Chinese. My grand-father’s grand-father was White. Everyone else in my family is Black. Does that make me White? …Hell no.

Since says he ispart Chinese, I think Tyson should of been a lead actor in Memoirs of a Geisha. I mean the movie used all thesee Chinese actors to portray a Japanese story. Why did they not use Tyson? It is not fair. Chinese actors like Tyson get no respect in this business!

mrs beckford haha @ 03/05/2006 at 7:13 pm

it’s ignorant of some people to say, ‘who cares if he’s part chinese’. although his skin is dark as a full black person, he is telling us straight up that he isn’t full black. he wants people to know that he’s got other mixes in him, not just the dominant black that people see.

Ho Chi Min @ 03/06/2006 at 12:18 pm

Miss Beckford I agree with you. That is why I am appalled that Tyson was passed up as a lead actor for the following films: Memoirs of A Geisha, Crouching Tiger, Hero - I mean how unfair! Tyson is a great Chinese actor. I am starting the petition to see if he can play the biopic of Mao Tse Tung. he would be great. And the Chinese people would certainly aprove. I mean this 2006 people! Come on. Tyson is a great Chinese actor.

Anonymous2 @ 03/07/2006 at 1:11 pm

Rachel said Tyson’s eyes indicate his chinese roots…now I’m African with very high cheek bones…Does having high cheek bone "indicate" traces of European ancestry? The last time I checked we have no Caucasians in our family therefore chinky eyes or whatever indicates nothing…South African Bush men have the same slant eyes Tyson has…so how does that make him less Black etc etc? Shout outs to the first poster…ya hit the nail right on its head…thank you!

anonymous2 @ 03/07/2006 at 1:27 pm

LMAOO@@@@ MEMOIRS OF GEISHA …damn, I’m sick of black people claiming other colors . Tyson is Blacker than my African ass… I still don’t see no "chineseness" in him …I can’t wait to see his ass in some kung fu flicks if ya get wot I mean lol

Black on Crack @ 03/07/2006 at 6:43 pm

Thank you! My boyfriend has hazel/green eyes. His familyare simply and strictly Black - no ifs and buts. His green eyes don’t suddenly make him white! Give me a break!

People thinking like you is why we still have racism. I don’t know if you realize you sound no better than nazi groups who are against racial mixing or who think white is the ultimate race (other races below). Actually I think this way of thinking is scary and ignorant. You act as if he should be ashamed he’s got Chinese in him, the man is saying something and you try to ignore/refuse to understand. I thought we should support other minorities and be proud of who we are-you show the opposite of tolerance. Great he’s proud of all his ancestors. God bless them all.

Real Deal @ 03/08/2006 at 1:21 pm

Monique, comparing the above posters to Nazis shows you know nothing of the Nazi party and the sheer brutality and horrific nature of their practices. That said, what I think everyone above is saying is this: If Tyson is hailing a taxi cab in new York, would a Taxi cab driver suddenly stop for him because he is part Chinese? When cab drivers are notorious for not stopping for Black men. If Tyson was in 1960 Alabama, would he have to sit on the back of the bus or no?If he was in South Africa, would he have to live in the blacks only sections or no?If Tyson was driving in Los Angeles and a racist cop profiles him, would that cop suddenly not do that because of his Chinese blood? If Tyson goes to China right now, would the Chinese accept him with open arms as one of their own or no?Given all the above experiences, does this not male his very existence one of a Black man? Where does his Chinese come into play in terms of how he exists in society. He may be Chinese but how relevant is that in a world that could not care less when they are discriminating against him? That is the point. Who cares what is in your ancestry when you go out into the world as a Black man that the world has learned to fear and resent? Why do you assume all the posters above are Black, by the way? There are White people who support this point of view too.I am glad one poster mentioned Halle Berry. She understands racism and her role as a Black woman. And her mother is White.

Speaking of Halle @ 03/08/2006 at 1:28 pm

HERE IS INTERVIEW OF HALLE BERRY BELOW - WHY IS SHE SO COMFORTABLE WITH SAYING SHE IS BLACK (AND SHE HAS A WHIT EMOTHER WHO RAISED HER WITHOUT HER BLACK FATHER YET OTHER PEOPLE AR ENOT COMFORTABLE WITH BEING BLACK:Reviews of Monster’s Ball You had to fight for this role. Why did you fight so hard for this one? I think being a woman, especially a black woman, I can identify with her struggle against racism. Feeling the effects of that on my life, and like most women who have had ups and downs, highs and lows, who have struggled at certain times in my life to understand who I am, to make ends meet, to make my way. I’ve certainly been there and I’m not free of it.

Speaking of Halle @ 03/08/2006 at 1:35 pm

HERE IS A WONDERFUL INTERVIEW WITH HALLE IN ESSENCE MAGAZINE. SHE CLEARLY STATES SHE IS BLACK DESPITE THE FACT THAT HER MOTHER IS BLACK. I THINK THAT IS VERY BOLD AND QUITE IMPRESSIVE. SHE UNDERSTANDS THAT HER EXPERIENCE IS THAT OF A BLACK WOMAN SO THAT MAKES HER EMBRACE HER BLACKNESS FULLY. IT DOES NOT MEAN SHE DOES NOT LOVE HER MOTHER. MAYBE TYSON NEEDS TO TAKE SOME TIPS FROM HALLE AND MAYBE THEN HE MIGHT BE AS FAMOUS…..INTERVIEW EXCERPT BELOW: Some of the school-yard battles were of the you-think-you’re-so-cute variety. Halle recognizes them as skirmishes in the Black internecine war of hair texture and skin color. I’ve been on the front lines myself, once or twice, but I always knew where the alleys were located. But Halle strikes me as someone who wouldn’t run, a girl who would stare down her adversaries. The age-old skin-and-hair trip still saddens her. "Even now, Black people come up to me and want to feel my hair. I get a lot of questions about what I do to it and if it’s natural. It amazes me that we’re still where we are with that." She pauses for a moment. "I understand that pain and what it’s about. I suffer, too," she says, eyes bright with indignation. "I don’t care what color my skin is or what the texture of my hair is. I’m a Black woman, and we’re all discriminated against in some way. I’m still being told by producers that they don’t see such and such a role as something for a Black person. I know I don’t have it easier."

Speaking of Halle @ 03/08/2006 at 6:46 pm

SORRY HALLE’S MOTHER IS WHITE, I MEANT TO SAY ABOVE.

No matter, no matter what colour … Please God, next life I want to be beautyful and most preferably wake up every morning next to a man looking like Tyson. Love ya

Dont you get it ?! This is just a receipt for people to have beautyful kids. Now we know that gorgeous people come from jamican-chinese mix. But seriously I was interested how come his eyes were like that and how come she was so amazingly beautyful. Now I know - mix it.
