Colombian pop superstar Shakira is set to be honoured with a giant steel statue in her hometown of Barranquilla. The mammoth construction is rumoured to be five metres high (16 feet) and is expected to arrive by boat tomorrow. The Laundry Service star is thrilled by the tribute; following a viewing of the artwork during a fundraiser in Germany she said: "I want people to think that any girl can start working on her dreams and that they will come true."

First things first. I had no idea Shakira was 29. That is pretty surprising. With regard to her being immortalized as a statue, that is pretty interesting.I know when I die, I want my body to be bronzed. I want to be doing a 70’s dance maneuver. I want to be dispalyed on my children’s coffree table with a broken AM radio that randomly goes off and makes a lot of static. That will be immortalization.My Blog Derek Hail’s Blog
Derek, FUNNY!! Ha! That is cool Wyclef Jean sang with Shakira. I like Wyclef and she has a old style voice that is neat. Instead of the highpitch crappy voice I have heard from some.
What is really impressive about Shakira is that she has been performing since she was 4 years old. My family used to go to the Arab Restaurant and she would be there dancing. Aside from been from a humble family, Shakira also conquered the social stigma in Barranquilla associated with entertainers. She had all the odds against her and I still cannot belive that she has accomplished so much. She is truly an inspiration for everybody with natural talent who desires to perform. She used to get teased a lot by the "upper" class in Barranquilla and now they all want to copy her. The linked above is for the Barranquilla newspaper in where there is a pic of the statue.

is it just me or did wyclef jean touch his groin repeatedly? anyway, i think shakira is uber-talented and sexy.

Back in the old days you had to win a war or save an awful lot of lives to get a statue made for you. Now they just hand them out like candy.
