Kristin Kreuk in Partition

Partition Synopsis :: Determined to leave the ravages of war behind, 38 year old Gian Singh (Jimi Mistry) resigns from the British Indian Army to a quiet life. His world is soon thrown in turmoil, when he suddenly finds himself responsible for the life of a 17 year old girl, traumatized by the events that separated her from her family. Slowly, resisting all the taboos, Gian finds himself falling in love with the vulnerable Naseem (Kristin Kreuk) and she shyly responds. In a moving and epic story, woven into a rich and exotic tapestry, they battle the forces that haunt their innocent love, fighting the odds to survive in a world surrounded by hate.

23-year-old actress Kristin Kreuk, who plays Lana Lang on Smallville, is set to play a 17-year-old Muslim girl named Naseem Khan in Partition, a film about the division between Pakistan and India.  Neve Campbell, 32, also stars in this film and will play the passionate but lonely Margaret Stilwell, a woman who helps Gian Singh.  More pictures in the gallery! ¶ I haven’t been too impressed with Kristin’s acting in Smallville but I’m cautiously optimistic about her role in Partition (Release Date :: Tentative Spring 2006). Watch the trailer below and share your thoughts.  Do you think Kristin Kruek has the looks and the acting chops to pull off a Muslim Pakistani girl?  Do you believe Kristin and Neve’s accents?

i am pakistani and i have cousins who look like kristin. as others have said before, pakistan is a land of diverse looking people. in peshawar, where my father’s family is from, you see a lot of people with lighter hair and skin and green or blue eyes. it’s not unusual.and while i would have loved for a pakistani actress to get the part, since there are a lot of them, i am glad they went with someone who at least has some asian blood and could pass for a pakistani. anyone remember the movie "the far pavilions"? it was on hbo in the 80s and starred amy irving as a rajput princess. talk about misscasting!!!!

FOR all out there upset that role should of gone to a person of South Asian origin should rethink this. Just because a person is not of a certain origin it does not mean they should not be considered. As long as they can look the part and play it, its cool. "belonging" and "not belonging" are bigoted concepts. People of South asian origin play other people, no complaints but this for some reason just pushes it. Those people who feel like this need to address this with them selves. Because as long as characters in media and entertainment arent made out to be caricutures(good example the Blackface entertainers, and angry black man of the 60’s) then its perfectly fine. The history of the entertainment industry has shown that the worst caricutures have been played by the very people they are supposed to represent. Movie looks Ace!

Think twice when you say something "i am glad they went with someone who at least has some asian blood " sounds racist.

Oh my god i cant believe people hold such baseless views. Please those people look up whiteness studies, big thing in colleges in th US now. the actual belief that racial classification is a given is the bases of racism. Like Noel Ignatiev said if you believe you are white then there is no hope for you. Concept of white race was introduced in the 17th century along with classification later ie. cacausian etc. Its all bogus pseudo-science. Apparently reading the comments of some people here tells me that the legacy lives on. Goto http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucasian_raceAnyways for all you believers in race according to racial classifications Indians are caucasian anyway. Also Pakistan was created out of the partionin of punjab region on the west and Bengal region on east. So the cultures were punjabi and bengali, both in india and pakistan. not pakistani if you think about. Also in 1971 the bengal part of pakitan (known then as East Pakistan) seperated and formed the country Bangladesh.
