Namibia has become the subject of huge interest in the US since the arrival of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, according to the country’s US ambassador. "The Namibian embassy in Washington DC has been inundated with calls from the US media and individuals," said Hopelong Ipinge. The film star couple arrived in the south African country in early April with Jolie’s two adopted children. Jolie, who is eight months pregnant, is expected to give birth there. It will be an honour for Namibia to become the birthplace of her child," Ms. Ipinge said. She added that some American TV stations has asked for Namibian tourism marketing videos after requests from viewers.

Vintage Brad Pitt, anyone? Brad Pitt made a guest appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno back on November 21, 2001. Brad starred in a series of skits to promote Spy Game and in this particular sketch, he tried to get people to watch his film. One old man refuses to watch the film and Brad asks if there’s anything he could do to change his mind. It then cuts to the two of them in bed and a naked / shirtless Brad asks, "Now are you going to watch the film?", the old man replies, "maybe."

I remember watching that entire skit when it originally aired and it was pretty funny. It was also kind of surprising because it didn’t seem like something Brad Pitt would do–Jim Carrey, yes–but Pitt uh uh. So, it was even funnier because it showed that he didn’t take himself too seriously.

# 23 | guli Guli, I posted the same info yesterday on a couple of threads. I guess with all the different threads up nobody’s really thought too much about the possibility of them making another movie together. If they do decide to do it, it has the potential of being a real career breaker. How the heck can anyone contemplate taking an 1100 page novel like "Atlas Shrugged" and condensing it into ONE movie is beyond me. The article mentions that at one point there was talk of making it 2 movies, but the current plan is for a single flick. It would have to be a 3 - 3 1/2 hour epic. I think it was Variety that said if they took the project on it could be their "Cleopatra". A bomb at the theater and not all that well received critically either. It was certainly a big career downer for it’s stars, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.

Writer-director Nicole Holofcener (“Lovely and Amazing”) observes her characters’ neuroses in a manner that is sharp but not judgmental. Holofcener doesn’t believe these people are any more messed up than she is, or than we are.The performances are EXCELLENT, which has become as much a hallmark of Holofcener’s films as her wry dialogue. Where other filmmakers cynically enjoy cursing their characters with fractured hearts and minds, Holofcener looks at similar emotional wounds and sees bruises that can be healed with time and compassion.
I think I’ve seen that clip before and yeah, watched the movie too but on cable not the theater. Don’t like Robert Redford much so won’t spend money on him. It was funny, that clip. Of course Namibia could only benefit from the couple’s stay there. They couldn’t have raised their budget to pay for that kind of publicity and here they’re getting it for free. It is also a big morale booster for the people there that their country has now become a point of interest not only for tourism purposes but as a recipient of humanitarian works.Too bad that the press is not making much profit out of it. However, maybe if they sent in requests for the family to at least be photographed once in a while when they are out and about, perhaps they could make an arrangement. They could donate some of their profits to Angelina’s education program right there in Namibia.

So apparently he wasn’t really up on the Darfur situation, but he has done other work in/for Africa. They said he’s part of Bono’s One campaign as well and that it pre-dates Brad’s dating Angelina.
I would love to go to Namibia, espeacially now, that our fav. couple is there.

As far as charity work in Africa by famous people goes, AJ has inspired a lot of people to do something either directly or indirectly. She may or may not have said anything to GC directly but with all the press she gets for it, some other celebrities are jumping on the bandwagon. Some celebs will really be helpful to the cause and others will be helping their own public image because helping Africa has become a tredy thing to do in Hollywood. I have mixed feelings about it because on the one hand all publicity–whether for selfish or unselfish reasons–raises awareness, but on the other too many Lindsay Lohans and Jessica Simpsons will take the seriousness off of the cause. The general public might start getting dismissive of those who really do care because the fluff of Hollywood is sullying the honorable intentions of those like AJ, Bono, etc. GC may be doing this to really help, I don’t know, personally I don’t care for him, but he always seem to be involved in world issues so he may be genuine. I guess the only real way to tell those who are helping because they care from those who are helping because they care about their image is to see who sticks around when the trendiness dies down and who still will be fighting on the front lines even when they don’t have a project to promote. I guarantee you if Lindsay Lohan doesn’t have an album, movie or perfume to promote, you won’t hear about her flying to Africa to help anyone.

Jared thanks for this! I remember watching this on the Tonight Show - he was soooo cute! I think it was around the same time that Brad appeared on Jackass on MTV. I think he was on two times - once dressed in a gorilla suit and the other time he pretended to get kidnapped in front of a movie theater. Brad’s definitely got a great comedic side to him which I absolutely love to see. Like in MAMS, he was so adorable when he gets to be funny. And who can forget when he appeared on Friends as Rachel’s ex for the Thanksgiving Show. You can imagine that is more like how he really is in real life. Anyway - he is - I’ll take him! He is divine.

thats what i thought.infact south africa has some of the best hospitals. There is a private hospital in Cape Town that has many of the leading surgens and docs in world! thats only a 30min flight from namibia, that would make more sense if there was a problem.

Hollywood is an unpredictable business. Who is hot today may just be the next has-been tomorrow. Fortunately for Brad, he has managed thru the years to stay on top of the A-list and maneuver his career the way he wants it to be. Last year was another proof of how he survived the tabloids and along with Angie made Mr. and Mrs.Smith one of the top grossing films,almost a half billion dollars worldwide notwithstanding the DVD and rentals for the movie. Hollywood analysts did not even forsee that success and how a year later, Brad and Angelina are more popular than ever. They are the real deal, so in love and raising wonderful children. They are wisely using their star power to draw attention on their humanitarian causes. Because of them, they made doing charity cool and some stars are following in their footsteps. Hopefully, this celebrities are doing it sincerely. I think that George Clooney has the right intentions to help promote awareness on the genocide in Darfur and he said that the worst thing we can do is not to do anything!

Holly (Angie assistant and friend) is not always with Angie. She was not with Angie in Canada when Brad was fiming (AOJJ) nor was she with Angie the first month when they went to Berlin and Paris. I am puzzled as to why someone would publish a review of "Friends with Money". That ship has sailed. The movie has made $5.5 million so far. For every decent review of the movie there was one like this–from the New Yorker: "… The trouble with Holofcener’s scheme is that the center of the movie is dead. Olivia has no drives or hopes or powerful regrets. She has nothing to say, and Aniston does most of her acting with her lower lip, which she wrinkles and tucks under the upper one—it’s a technique, of sorts. She pulls so little out of herself that we lose all interest in her by the middle of the picture."
But I thought this was an interesting observation from Films in Review.com:. …This being a Jennifer Aniston vehicle, I must say that I prefer her in this type of “indie” ensemble role. She should pursue serious actress roles that compliment her wounded, angled face and structured delivery instead of chasing after Julia Roberts-style stardom. It will never happen. The dismal box-office of her past few films have already made that clear.
Passing Through, I think George Clooney didn’t get involved in field work in Africa or even spoke much about it because his focus was on other subjects. Like Brad and Angie, he believes in being an active citizen, but he’s had different causes. He has looked at the role of government, and citizens’ roles in their own government, and made films and many television appearances talking about it, from making Confessions of a Dangerous Mind to Goodnigh and Good Luck, to acting in Syriana, all about making your government accessible and accountable, because in a democracy, your government does not just repesent you, it IS you, it is comprised of what you elect and how you make those politicians act. Here it is government OF the people, BY the people, FOR the people, but most people don’t want to have a say in it, they just accept whatever happens and a great number don’t even vote. His main focus for many years has been apathy, simply because we are an affluent nation that doesn’t have urgent needs. But to just swallow what we are fed by the government, or by media, and not think it through or get the facts and make the media report the facts and make the government answer its people is not only dangerous, but it’s not taking full advantage of democracy. He sees duty in being a citizen, and not duty as in forced drudgery, but as in responsibility and honor. If he is now looking at what can be done in Africa, that is indeed a shift in his priorities, and I would bet it has to do with Brad and Angelina, who he has been impressed with. I think once he made Good Night and Good Luck, and did all the press for it, he felt like he had said what he wanted to say on that subject and is now moving onto something else that is also about being a good citizen, this time about being a citizen of the world.

I think that the "firing" of the CAA agents is using a word that makes it sound as if there were some sort of animosity there. I think with two movies coming out and one to be made soon, she has her next year or so booked. She already has two children, and is about to have a newborn. She probably doesn’t need to have agents getting her work right now, and with a focus on her children and humanitarian work, maybe she is taking a break from acting for a while. She has Brad’s Plan B production company to find scripts for her, and she is still in demand without having agents seek work, so she can do what Jessica Lange did at the height of her career: slow down, raise her kids away from Hollywood, and make a movie every two-three years as a script comes along that really grabs her. Brad can continue to act, and they won’t have as much to juggle as far as not staying apart for long periods. It’ll be enough with his movies and her humanitarian activities to stay in the same area. I think it’s a good thing, and a further assertion of independence and separation from the Hollywood scene. But I really don’t see there being any big, sudden reason for it, or any animosity.

angelina just glows. most of us have already seen the interview with ann curry (& more than once). i absolutely admire this woman. she has shown that she is the real deal and she knows what is going on in these developing countries. as a budding sociologist and slowly getting into the literature on refugees and internally displaced people, i can understand her passion to make children in these developing countries a priority. if any of you ever get a chance to read works of researchers from the UN & WHO, pick it up and i guarantee that you will live your life differently. at least i did, and now my work & school is focused on it. . . . ..and now onto angelina: i came across a magazine - Marie Claire. in it angelina was interviewed just after the filming on MAMS. she talks about her refugee work, how maddox has changed her life, and a little about Brad. what is particularly cute is when she describes how Maddox has come to understand what she does for the UN - someone was talking to Maddox about Africa and upon hearing "Africa", he said, "That’s where mommy works". i just thought that was cute. About her lovelife at the time, angelina admits to having "maintenance men" that she likes to be with for short periods of time. what is interesting, in retrospect, is that when the interviewer asked her about a permanent man in her life, she was quoted as saying "the next man that i become involved with would have to Mad’s father and that’s a pretty high bar, as far as i’m concerned" . . . and lo and behold, we have the Jolie-Pitts. i just thought that was interesting. and magazine was for the month of july 2005.cheers all. don’t forget Dateline tomorrow night!

hi guys, yes it is quiet, I think we all went into posting frenzy over the last few days with all the threads! I am with you guli on how I find Brad and Angelina’s love story so romantic. They have gone a long way from last year and how they have proven their critics wrong -MMS a box office hit and they are now a family. I have lost count on how many times I have flipped thru my People Magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful and looked at their pictures. Angelina said in her interview with Ann Curry that her life is full and for me it can only mean that she feels complete with Brad and her children.

In response to #273 and 274, re ‘not discussion their relationship at home either,’ there really is no mystery to that. Personally, my husband and I don’t discuss our relationship either, and as I think back, not even when we first got together. We don’t sit around and try to define our relationship as to the how and why, and where it’s going. Why would you want to do that? We know that we want to be together, now, and in the future, and we are so busy living our lives, taking part in bringing up our children, involved in many outside activities, just’being a family,’ what’s there to discuss? Anniversaries might be the only time we ever discuss our relationship. Most other couples we know do pretty much the same thing. Another thing that AJ said re her and Brad, ‘it just happened.’ That is so true! When you meet someone, and you fall in love, it just ‘happens." I mean, can you plan to fall in love with someone? Having a strong, and deep, relationship with someone, married or not, being a family with children, is not like being in a business oriented relationship, where you can have a 5 year plan, and a 10 year plan, to see how your business is growing. I have been married for over 20 years (23 actually), and I feel that Angie and Brad are in this relationship, for better, or for worse, they do not need to discuss their ‘relationship’ at home, and definitely, not in public, because they ‘know’ they are commited to each other, ‘just living and being a family.’ They really do deserve the title ‘Most Beautiful Family in the World.’

I shouldn’t want it to be true, because I feel a man should resist that sort of thing, but I do. I want the romance, the incredible romance, to all be true. I feel very, very sorry for Jennifer, yes. But– if you think about it– Brad and Angelina are eclipsing pretty much everybody else in Hollywood, too, not just her. Every other actress by comparison seems ridiculous right now. I think Moi Jade should put up her really funny posts. I find them hilarious. I think that’s what distinguishes this blog from others — that we post stories, personal anecdotes and whatnots. Other sites either have just love or hate one-liners. If I just want one of those I could just go to dlisted, perezhilton or femalefirst. I think that the few seconds it takes to download shouldn’t discourage people — and that we keep rocking justjared with our humorous stories, personal anecdotes and other slices of life that make being a BAMZ+1 on this blog such a load of fun. I know that this is my daily fix, and guilty pleasure because none of my family nor my sisters are even remotely interested in discussing BAMZ+1.
