Brangelina Airport
Time Magazine released their TIME 100, a list of global icons –100 men and women whose power, talent or moral example is transforming our world. Angelina Jolie was listed under "Heroes & Pioneers" and an article by Deputy Secretary-General of the U.N. Mark Malloch Brown was posted…
Recently, I took my 13-year-old daughter Maddy to a New York City event honoring Angelina Jolie. Every parent will relate to the fact that Maddy often finds the world of celebrity magazines more interesting than the world of her father—which in my case centers on the United Nations and its work fighting poverty. That night Angelina brought those two worlds together. Maddy was awed by how Angelina used her celebrity to lift all of us beyond the glamour of a Manhattan ballroom and make us confront the grim realities of poverty in the farthest corners of the globe.
That ability to transcend worlds has something to do with Angelina’s movie-star charisma—but it also says something about her diligence and grit. Angelina, 30, spends a great deal of time in the developing world, visiting refugee camps, speaking and listening to the men, women and children she is working to help. Those people, Angelina explained, "have seen so much, they’ve felt so much pain—lost more than anyone could bear, and yet they contain joy of life and appreciation for small things we often forget." It was a further indication of Angelina’s humanity that she stopped to listen and talk to Maddy as the city’s power brokers hovered impatiently, awaiting their brush with celebrity.
Angelina’s commitment as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees has pushed her to speak out about root causes—economic failure and lack of justice. She urged me relentlessly to meet her last year during a stopover at an airport where our paths happened to be crossing, so that I could brief her ahead of her appearance at a big international meeting. It is typical of her. The subject was the Millennium Development Goals—a set of objectives agreed upon by the world’s governments. They range from eradicating poverty to reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS. As always, she wanted to be prepared—not just to share impressions of poverty but to be able to speak seriously to the issues. Angelina went on to make a film for MTV on a village in Kenya, where a pilot project is under way to fight poverty, hunger and disease.
That blending of the activist and the performer, not on the set but in the African bush, reflects her determination to stick with a subject, immerse herself in it, make it part of her life—and then bring her public with her. It is celebrity advocacy at its most effective, most intelligent and most sincere. For that, she has my enduring respect and gratitude—and Maddy’s. (More pictures in the gallery!)

# 224 | Original jpf frangelico is the most divine liqueur in all creation. it’s hazelnut flavor and it does wonders for coffee, whipped cream, and chocolate and vanilla ice cream. it’s a key ingredient in my naughty milkshake recipe.
# 221 | guli please kindly post the link….thanks much!!
gitane It is hazelnut or almond?
gitaneI remember Amaretto is almond and Frangelico is hazelnut, sorry. I’m coo-coo, tonight. ;)
# 223 | julia "John is a dork" LOL! You nailed it. Darfur…I feel it too, and in no small part has AJ, Bono, GC been influential in bringing that part of the world to the attention of a vast amount of people who had no real idea of that horror’s being experienced there.jpf
Rizosit’s hazelnut. amaretto is almond. both yummy, but i’d kill for frangelico. you’re making me want a cup of "special" coffee.
# 225 | AliciaThat’s funny. I’m gonna have to try to find that video. I really can’t blame a man for trying.
my gosh! i’ve got to admit that as each day passes, i’m being won over by all the good press about her.
#227 Rizos#229 GitaneYum! I love Amaretto, and Bailey’s which really is odd since I’m not a sweet eater…….just a drinker. Man, I’m starting to sound like a lush!jpf
gitaneLOL. HA! I had an anisette with espresso after my dinner, so, Salud!
# 225 | Alicia | , Alicia that’s not the one I was talking about but I also have that one as well. I’ll attach both links :)http://www.wutheringjolie.com/nuke/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=110Here is the first one I’ll send you the Collin one next !!!
Rizos & Original jpfi love liqueurs. the funny thing is, i never liked any alcoholic drinks until i studied beverages in culinary school. i still don’t drink that often. i cook with liquor more than i drink it. but sometimes, there’s nothing in the world better than a bellini.
# 228 | jjoy Someone said the same thing in the blog - that the pics were from Aug 2005. I find it strange that PerezHilton would bother putting up those pics if they weren’t new. They’re usually very good about using current images on their blog. Isn’t it possible that she was simply wearing the same outfit (we can all laugh together because she’d probably rather be caught making out with Perez than wearing the same outfit) as last year? I know Perez can’t stand her, but posting old pics of her on a day when Angie’s got a big interview would be a really low blow.
Hi guliHow are you?To LolaHola LolaQuestion, Do you know where they are going to repeat the Dateline interview? Some of the BAMZ+1ters missed the interview tonight. Thank you.
Just wanted to let you guys know–rerun of the interview (I hope will be at 2:30am eastern timezone). Thats what my digital cable show guideline says. I missed to interview and when I got home went straight to that channel and scroll the timeline to see if it will show again–and it said 2:30am!!
The interview is coming up shortly on the West Coast.
I just happened to think of something else that AJ said during the interview that cracked me up. It was the comment about just being glad that one kid wasn’t trying to sit on the other’s head. I can totally relate to that. Not because I have kids, because I don’t. Just now I remembered that my mother has pictures of one of my older brothers trying to sit on MY HEAD when we were kids! I think it’s a guy thing. Even when we were older I remember he thought it was funny to try to sit on my head and/or **** in my face. It’s definitely a brotherly thing to do.
# 99 | LookMaNoHands - Does anyone actually believe these two love each other?Angie’s starstruck, and Brad is using her as a baby-making machine. They are in love and commited, only the hardcore Aniston fan refuse to believe it. With thousand of women lining up to have Brad baby. Brad sure knew how to peak a good gene to much his. and you’re absolutely right ! Angelina is startruck.
sorry its pick not peak
# 240 | gitane Now I remember when/where I had a Bellini. It was driving me a bit nuts, but I had one at a brunch in the village (nyc) a couple of yrs ago, and it was champagne with peaches if I remember. Yum. Oh what beautiful day that was!jpf
# 245 | Passing Through I forgot about that. That was funny. I think their on the way to being a big rambunctious, rowdy, loving clan. I wonder if Angelina has learned how to cook yet? loljpf
# 248 | Original jpf i worked in an italian restaurant in new orleans and bellinis were a specialty. my manager treated me to my first one after i did another server’s side work for them. it was sooo goood. i got brain freeze because i drank it too fast. i also got drunk. the bartender put in way too much vodka.
#249 Original jpf…I wonder if Angelina has learned how to cook yet?——-I am sure she knows a dish or two. It takes time. My sister does not know how to cook when she got married she learned…slowly but surely. But with busy schedules I am sure they have their own cook. At any rate, who cares as long as they have each other. AAWWW
