Time Magazine released their TIME 100, a list of global icons –100 men and women whose power, talent or moral example is transforming our world.  Angelina Jolie was listed under "Heroes & Pioneers" and an article by Deputy Secretary-General of the U.N. Mark Malloch Brown  was posted…

Recently, I took my 13-year-old daughter Maddy to a New York City event honoring Angelina Jolie. Every parent will relate to the fact that Maddy often finds the world of celebrity magazines more interesting than the world of her father—which in my case centers on the United Nations and its work fighting poverty. That night Angelina brought those two worlds together. Maddy was awed by how Angelina used her celebrity to lift all of us beyond the glamour of a Manhattan ballroom and make us confront the grim realities of poverty in the farthest corners of the globe.

That ability to transcend worlds has something to do with Angelina’s movie-star charisma—but it also says something about her diligence and grit. Angelina, 30, spends a great deal of time in the developing world, visiting refugee camps, speaking and listening to the men, women and children she is working to help. Those people, Angelina explained, "have seen so much, they’ve felt so much pain—lost more than anyone could bear, and yet they contain joy of life and appreciation for small things we often forget." It was a further indication of Angelina’s humanity that she stopped to listen and talk to Maddy as the city’s power brokers hovered impatiently, awaiting their brush with celebrity.

Angelina’s commitment as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees has pushed her to speak out about root causes—economic failure and lack of justice. She urged me relentlessly to meet her last year during a stopover at an airport where our paths happened to be crossing, so that I could brief her ahead of her appearance at a big international meeting. It is typical of her. The subject was the Millennium Development Goals—a set of objectives agreed upon by the world’s governments. They range from eradicating poverty to reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS. As always, she wanted to be prepared—not just to share impressions of poverty but to be able to speak seriously to the issues. Angelina went on to make a film for MTV on a village in Kenya, where a pilot project is under way to fight poverty, hunger and disease.

That blending of the activist and the performer, not on the set but in the African bush, reflects her determination to stick with a subject, immerse herself in it, make it part of her life—and then bring her public with her. It is celebrity advocacy at its most effective, most intelligent and most sincere. For that, she has my enduring respect and gratitude—and Maddy’s. (More pictures in the gallery!)

COLD HARD MATH @ 05/01/2006 at 12:44 am

Of course he loved JA. But that love obviously changed. #294, I have been a fan of Brad’s ever since THELMA AND LOUISE. When he was with:GwenythJulietteRobin GivensJenniferNow with Angie he has certainly evolved. Maybe he feels that he can actually be himself, not the GOLDEN BOY and it ’s very refreshing. We will never know why his marriage ended with JA. At this point I really don’t care. IMO he just seems to be VERY HAPPY. He has a loving, beautiful hot, sexy partner, two beautiful children and one on the way.ROCK ON BRAD!! SEXY DILF!!!

# 73 | Alexanderina - "Please do all of us a favor and go away." Sound familiar?# 97 | LookMaNoHands!! - Angie starstruck? Are you serious? I think you need to go take a realiity pill there. And even IF Brad was using Angie as a "baby machine" as you call it, men all around the world have been doing it for a long time. And though ‘ve never felt the need for kids, I’d volunteer to have his. :DI’m in Australia and I have no ide when we’ll get to see this interview…if they’ll even air it here. :(

My biggest observation is that the man said he loved architecture, spent two years outside of hollywood to design and build a family house and the ex compalined about the house and the furniture in VF interview. To me I felt he must have been very sad about that. Somewhere his brother commented about how hard he worked on the house but he had to let go and sell it after the divorce. I did not get the impression there and then that he was getting too motivated by the ex in the things that made in happy. Now he’s all pumped up about it, at least from the work he wants to do in New Orleans and the TV show coming up in June.

# 295 | jjoy I’m not attacking Angie at all. You missed the point. I’m a huge fan of Angie’s! I merely just said that we shouldn’t bash Jen and call her names. That Brad doesn’t speak ill of her and we shouldn’t either. We may not like her for the things she’s done but she has to live with knowing that what she did drove Brad away and into Angie’s life. I have a brother Brad’s age and he’s still waiting for his family. I’m glad Brad made his decision to move on, painful as it may have been, and have the family he so desired and deserved.I agree with you that Jen should’ve had the "No Comment" reaction towards anyone who asked about her divorce. That comment about the divorce was towards the Jen fans that come here to ridicule Angie.

# 283 | jjoyI think he might have met her once and she was a complete jerk to him. My guess is she is not a very nice person.

Original jpf- I totally agree with you. Brad said in an interview last year, I think in Esquire, that his leading man persona had only a few more years. He has always excelled in roles in which he was not a "hollywood hunk" like "12 Monkeys" and "Fight Club". He plays a truely unlikable outlaw in the upcoming AJJBCRF and it has been said that this is a film that he really wanted to do. He changed his appearance almost totally to play JJames, with a significant weight loss and dark hair, and he ignored all the lies said about the change in his appearance. He now has a partner in Angie who "has his back" and supports his choices, whatever they are. He just seems to be the "real Brad", like experimenting with dark hair/styles this year (after completing AJJ), dressing however he wants to without caring what others say, traveling with angie and the kids, and living and enjoying life on his own terms. It’s almost as if he has been wearing a mask for years and the mask is now gone. That’s what happens when you are in a relationship with someone in which it appears that there is much love, rock solid trust, mutual respect, the ability to compromise, and acceptance and support of each other’s differences.

#304i think ja is really an ambitious woman and there’s nothing wrong about being ambitious…but it seems to me that she has this attitude that she’s above others especially when she caught the biggest fish in HW and married him…her stars skyrocketed…she’s not certainly gorgeously beautiful nor patently talented…she was married to the sexiest man alive….and now that he’s out of the picture, her stars are dimming while his stars are shining more so brightly coz he is now with a partner that in her own rights is a megastar…I think braddy and angie found their soul mates with each other…if their relationships wouldn’t last…their love of their children will always connect them…but I am thinking positive….they will be together for a long time…and wish them all the best.Bams+1 rocks and rules!!

# 72 | Jolie full of it The UN is a respected, distinguish governing body of the World, If Angelina is not suited for the job, she could easily replace by anyone. UN is not like HW first PR Stephen Huvane.

I wish BAMZ+1 all the happiness in the world!

respond to #71: It’s 100x better to have someone highly qualified and educated giving one a commendation rather than another celebrity who doesn’t know f–k all. More power to AJ and fam!

#300 Original jpf …. indeed the fat lady has sung and a new day has come#307 kk …. "That’s what happens when you are in a relationship with someone in which it appears that there is much love, rock solid trust, mutual respect, the ability to compromise, and acceptance and support of each other’s differences." I couldn’t have said that any better!

is it possible to post the transcript of the interview for the ones who missed it???? :(((((

# 307 jjoy … No there isn’t anything wrong with being ambitious unless it takes presidence over one’s marriage. Now none of us know for certain what exactly went on between Brad and Jen and we’ll never know but what we do know is that he didn’t get the "little Jennifers" he always wanted.

# 304 | Lori okay…peace….i am just offended coz haters are bringing up angie’s past and posting all these nasty comments about her…ja’s fans live in the past…and they don’t know how to move forward….i really don’t care about ja…but man…what she’s been thinking?? prioritize her career first than her marriage when she knows that her marriage is crumbling?? maybe she didn’t really love braddy…only what braddy can give her….HW attention and of course A-list title..i really don’t care that angie got together with braddy….or any man…coz i believe that a confident mature man will come along to sweep my chickie babe on her feet…but as a bonus braddy came along and i ain’t complaining…

I hate her because she’s so f**ing gorgeos even when pregnant. She cares so much about people from thirld world countries…damn, why can’t Jennifer be like her?

We should ALL be so lucky to find someone who we have common interests and supports our decisions whatever they may be. What a truly delightful family.

# 307 | jjoy Agree with you ,as lainey said JA was ambitious and had delusion of grandeur, very well said. she seems to forget if not of Brad , she’s just another member of the "Friends" cast. but I didn’t expect her star fall real fast, 3 subsequent flop movie and not even included in People’s top 100 beautiful people.

mrs smith @ 05/01/2006 at 1:51 am

Original jpf….your post gave me a lot of food for thought. I must say that I totally agree with you, in that Brad has never really been able to bare his deepest desires, and hopes, to anyone, until Angie, and that we are finally seeing the real Brad emerging. And to follow that thought, I think we can also expect to see Angie become even more of an inspiration, and leader, to others, in bringing awareness to so many things in this world that are so easily forgotten. Together, they are capable of doing so much, and as their family grows, I feel that their love for each other will only grow stronger. They will remain The Most Beautiful Family In the World, forever, and ever!!!

# 319 | mrs smith And I think Angie is learning from Brad about dealing with media, and business side of Hollywood. He is one very shrewed (in a good way) businessman and she hasn’t been exactly a media savvy in her youth :) They compliment each other and that’s beautiful.

# 304 | Lori There’s nothing wrong for a woman with being ambitious but she should not married a guy who want 6-7 kids. and should held half of the responsibility of the divorce rather than blaming it all on her ex. I also can’t stand her whinning and bitching in all mag. interviews .
