Time Magazine released their TIME 100, a list of global icons –100 men and women whose power, talent or moral example is transforming our world.  Angelina Jolie was listed under "Heroes & Pioneers" and an article by Deputy Secretary-General of the U.N. Mark Malloch Brown  was posted…

Recently, I took my 13-year-old daughter Maddy to a New York City event honoring Angelina Jolie. Every parent will relate to the fact that Maddy often finds the world of celebrity magazines more interesting than the world of her father—which in my case centers on the United Nations and its work fighting poverty. That night Angelina brought those two worlds together. Maddy was awed by how Angelina used her celebrity to lift all of us beyond the glamour of a Manhattan ballroom and make us confront the grim realities of poverty in the farthest corners of the globe.

That ability to transcend worlds has something to do with Angelina’s movie-star charisma—but it also says something about her diligence and grit. Angelina, 30, spends a great deal of time in the developing world, visiting refugee camps, speaking and listening to the men, women and children she is working to help. Those people, Angelina explained, "have seen so much, they’ve felt so much pain—lost more than anyone could bear, and yet they contain joy of life and appreciation for small things we often forget." It was a further indication of Angelina’s humanity that she stopped to listen and talk to Maddy as the city’s power brokers hovered impatiently, awaiting their brush with celebrity.

Angelina’s commitment as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees has pushed her to speak out about root causes—economic failure and lack of justice. She urged me relentlessly to meet her last year during a stopover at an airport where our paths happened to be crossing, so that I could brief her ahead of her appearance at a big international meeting. It is typical of her. The subject was the Millennium Development Goals—a set of objectives agreed upon by the world’s governments. They range from eradicating poverty to reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS. As always, she wanted to be prepared—not just to share impressions of poverty but to be able to speak seriously to the issues. Angelina went on to make a film for MTV on a village in Kenya, where a pilot project is under way to fight poverty, hunger and disease.

That blending of the activist and the performer, not on the set but in the African bush, reflects her determination to stick with a subject, immerse herself in it, make it part of her life—and then bring her public with her. It is celebrity advocacy at its most effective, most intelligent and most sincere. For that, she has my enduring respect and gratitude—and Maddy’s. (More pictures in the gallery!)

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS!Another High 5 (the haters hate that..heehee..) to JJ for making these pages. Makes catching up easier and faster-!! Thanks Lumpia Loverh!:)The interview was good however I didn’t like how Ann Curry didn’t give Angelina time to responds initially. Putting words in her mouth. You could tell Angelina caught on as well when she started to list faster what the children could learn if they were educated. Damn she looks so healthy and BEAUTIFUL! Definitely has the glow of happiness and inner peace. I also think she said just the right amount info re: Brad and the kids. l AJ Manipulator l" know that many of you AJ fans value Lainey’s opinions. She may be right or wrong in her views. The point is that MANY people see through this AJ hype this past week, as simply another one of her contrived steering of the media for her benefit. She even has to arrange for posed family pics to represent happiness in the family.AJ is pitifully self-absorbed in her making her image."__________________________________________________ Angelina Jolie along with MSNBC., thousands of people in Washington DC, George Clooney on Bill Maher, Time magazine and People Magazine ALL "manipulated" their interviews and publications to coincide with the NATIONAL rallies across the USAfor attention to Dafur and the genocide happening their. Angelina could care less what we think of her personally. That is not her goal, bringing attention to the issues ARE. If you read MORE than just Lainey gossip column and read the news, listened to NPR or watched National News on TV you may have put 2+2 together. There were rallies across the US yesterday. I went to one in my home state! So instead of trying to "figure out how" movie starsare trying to manipulate the press, do the world a favor and listen to what some of them are saying and maybe lend some support!

Saw the interview last night. I was going a long with it and thinking it was kind of cute and all (the visual of her & Brad reading in bed) but then she devolved in to a total idiot with the crazy laughing. Curry is trying to steer her into talking about the obvious change in her life and demeanor and she goes off with that dumbass laugh! Hormones or no hormones, she knows this is going nationwide and she has a cause to sell, she looked retarded and I’m back to hating her…AGAIN!

# 354 | A Nony Mouse |Hey there is a real "informative" article on the Post Chronicle this morning about JA adopting a baby. Go check it out. I am soooo sure it’s true!!http://www.postchronicle.com/news/entertainment/tittletattle/article_21216661.shtml

It was very disturbing to see Angelinas arms in these pictures. She is very anerexic or bulimic looking. I can see why Brad Pitt said he was concerned. That has to be hard on him to see someone be like that and be carrying his child. It is very unhealthy and dangerous.

I saw the interview it was kind of short. I liked the one she did at davos better with the lady from abc. But in all it was okay.

I bet Friends With Money is already in video stores. That woman Aniston is a joke. And Aniston does nothing for charity. Which is worst? # 94 | Cynical’s Cheetos PLEASE BE FACTUAL IN YOUR POSTS. THE MOVIE F/WITH MONEY IS SHOWING IN MY CITY (NOT IN VIDEO STORES) AND IT’S REALLY A WORTH SEEING. ONE OF THE BAMZ FANS EVEN POSTED IN ONE OF THE LAST THREADS THAT IT GOT 77 GOOD REVIEWS OUT OF A 100 ON ROTTEN TOMATOES. AND SOMEONE ELSE POSTED SEVERAL OF THOSE VERY GOOD REVIEWS FROM LA TIMES, ROLLING STONE, ETC. SO PLEASE STOP TRYING TO JUSTIFY YOUR B.S. ABOUT JOLIE/PITT AND THE FAILURE OF THE ANISTON/PITT MARRIAGE BY CITING JEN ANISTON’S MOVIES OR PRETENDING TO BE A MOVIE CRITIC FOR A FILM YOU’VE NEVER EVEN SEEN. IT ONLY MAKES YOU LOOK RIDICULOUS AND LEADS TO THE OBVIOUS– THAT YOU LIKELY BASE YOUR IDOLATION OF JOLIE ON EQUALLY LIMITED INFORMATION TOO SO WHY LISTEN TO YOU??PLEASE REMEMBER THAT FRIENDS WITH MONEY WAS AN INDIE FILM LIKE THE WHALE & THE SQUID AND WAS NOT EXPECTED TO PROVE IT’S MERIT BY RAKING IN BOATLOADS OF CASH.

# 379 | jizzy |Well girlfriend I guess you must hate then…. since happiness, joy, pregnancy and laughter are not ingredients to the kind of "image"you are looking for in a person. Best go back to JA who is reportedly depressed these days.

Angelina jolie is getting so much good press lately. Tables have turned.

think positive! @ 05/01/2006 at 12:05 pm

#31 Did he told you that personaly??Oh yeah of course.Another tabloid bible book. And if you don’t mind just look at the tender touching. Brad’s hand on Angelinas arm.Read your Cosmo honey and live us.NEXT!!

Moi JadeGood Morning!!! How are you? Was "lookingK everywhere for you yesterday. I guess you were on a Date with GC. You go on with your bad self. You went to a rally? That’s nice, how was it? Hey, don’t bother with Jizzy, happiness is not really her thing. WowYeah, you are right. BP is kicking himself senseless.

JensMOMisHOMELESS @ 05/01/2006 at 12:18 pm

>>>LMAO fifi (#371) - this cracked my sh*t up!!

The accolades the AJ has gotten recently are not the result of PR manipulations.Aj has been with UN for 5/6 yrs. It is also a volunteer service, going to dangerous places, comforting those needy refugees. She was awarded those honors by recognizing her efforts for those causes, the beauty part just enhanced her true character.Take a look around,. lot of 25 yrs old (AJ was 25 when she started at UN)today would be just partying , no focus in life and enjoying life with no care at all. Future citizens of the world? SCARY THOUGHT !!!

JensMOMisHOMELESS @ 05/01/2006 at 12:32 pm

Excuse me #383 (AKA The Movie), but the semi-decent reviews F/W/MONEY has received have been IN SPITE OF ANISTON. That’s A FACT. I can site you at least 3-5 so-called ‘good’ reviews, that still go on to RIP ANISTON’S PERFORMANCE & CONTRIBUTION A NEW ONE. Sad, but TRUE. That film is an ensemble cast - and the rest of the actresses, MCDORMAND, KEENER, & CUSACK - save it from being a complete wash, NOT ANISTON. SHE IS USUALLY SITED IN THESE SO-CALLED ‘GOOD REVIEWS’ AS BEING THE ONLY WEAK LINK, basically TV sit-com ‘Rachel’ if she worked as a house cleaner.

Educating Angelina JolieTools Print this article E-mail this article Subscribe to this paper Larger / Smaller TextBy Dimitri VassilarosTRIBUNE-REVIEWMonday, May 1, 2006 If Angelina Jolie, who truly deserves a world of credit for her genuine desire to help the impoverished, knew the difference between education and knowledge, she might ask less of the United States and more of Third World dictators. As the honorary chair in the U.S., Ms. Jolie last week was the face and bleeding heart of the Global Campaign for Education Action Week. The premise is that 100 million children in backward countries could receive an education if only other nations would contribute enough money. The $15 billion over 10 years pledged by the United Kingdom supposedly has raised the bar for America because whatever this republic spends to help other countries never seems to be enough. The World Bank claims the U.K. is giving close to $20 per capita, while America is only giving a bit more than $1 per capita. Gene Sperling, the U.S. chair of the Global Campaign for Education, thinks $1 billion from the U.S. would be a nice down payment. U.K. Chancellor Gordon Brown, also part of the campaign, claims that "education is the best anti-poverty strategy, it’s the best social policy, the best employment policy, it’s the best economic policy, and we could be the first generation in history that delivered schooling for every child in the world. For $10 billion a year, every child on every continent could have teachers, books and classrooms." Emil Faber, the fictional founder of the college in "Animal House," might disagree. Faber supposedly said that "Knowledge is Good." Education does not necessarily convey knowledge. Ask anyone who knows anything about America’s public schools. And if education really is the best anti-poverty strategy and the best social, employment and economic policy, then why did communism surrender to end the Cold War? Has Mr. Brown been to Cuba and North Korea? And is he predicting that the students in Saudi-financed madrases that teach Wahhabism will do much more than threaten civilization? History has taught almost everyone that knowledge and education are mutually exclusive when a dictator educates the masses. There might be a good reason why dictatorships send political prisoners to re-education camps. American pub

PlS Educate cont. @ 05/01/2006 at 12:38 pm

American public education also has taught that no amount of money guarantees that schools will be able to convey knowledge to students. TV viewers should be very skeptical if they see follow-up stories on CNN about the campaign to suck more money out of America. According to the transcript of the telephone news conference last week, A.J. Hammer at CNN offered this mush before asking Jolie a softball question: "I salute you for all of your tireless efforts for children around the world, among other places. You have focused a lot of your energy on the poor in Africa, you and Brad are essentially living there at the moment. We certainly have heard some stunning statistics today, but as you well know, nothing can quite compare to actually seeing firsthand what is going on, which you have done, that is often a call to action for many people." So much for journalism. No one asked about the dictators, let alone what to do about them. No one asked if the premise was valid. No one asked much of anything other than how to get more U.S. dollars. Dictators must be overjoyed even if their subjects don’t know the meaning of the word. Watched the interview. Our JOlie is really happy these days and it shows. The reading in bed with brad is a goodsign of togetherness. The pdas the people are longing to see are relegated to the bedroom.Wish for a great life for them.IMO she looks good laughing/giggling.What about a light comedy movie with brad.? Oh ,BOY.!!! That’ll throw the ex to oblivion.

During the interview, Angie said something like, she was certain that she’s going to adopt all her children and had peace with that idea, then something happened last year, she changed her mind and had this child.. Did we smell "love" here? For AJ, who is indedendent and determined, had changed her mind which she had at least for last four years and had been doing that (she adpoted Maddox). There is only one thing could do that : LOVE.

JensMOMisHOMELESS @ 05/01/2006 at 12:54 pm

Uh, excuse me #395 (PLS Educate)…why are you WHINING about Jolie and what your author ADMITS is a woman who should be credited with wanting to help impoverished people. IF YOU LISTENED to what she and others were saying - you’d know IT’S A FACT THAT PEOPLE ARE DYING BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT EDUCATED, particularly in countries like Africa where it’s been proven that education reduces the AIDS epidemic from spreading.MOREOVER, why is your author, Dimitrios Whatever - so PO’d over JOURNALISTS supposedly NOT doing their job w/ Angelina Jolie, a FILM ACTRESS and UN volunteer who donates her income to worthy causes and gets in the trenches - when the DO-NOTHING DESPOTS who are waging WARS in the name of OIL, stealing elections, leaking names of CIA agents, and ignoring Global Warming and SCIENCE on a DAILY basis - get A FREE PASS??What a coward. Yeah - go ahead, rag on Jolie of ALL PEOPLE, and leave BUSH, RUMSFELD & CHENEY to their devices. Who’s next on your list? If you find out Dakota Fanning gave her lunch money towards a cause you’re philosophically opposed to - can we THEN look forward to a RANT about HER TOO??!!Boy, what a HARD HITTING CRITIC - THAT GUY IS!Shyeah, that’s the ticket - write about actresses not saving the world in the manner in which YOU would like — and leave off talking about the MEN in power who are destroying and raping THE WORLD.GOOD CALL - DIMITRIOS VASSILAROS is a QUEEN SIZED WUSS of the FIRST ORDER!That is all.

# 390 | African Girl |Hey Girl!! How are you? Hey did you get my last post re: Vince in Lake Forest btw? How are things with the cuz? hahaha. Oh yea the interview with GC was awesome!! (You know I batted my eyelashes to get his celly #) Such a great guy. Now I know why he and Brad are good friends. GC left NYC and was in Washington DC. He had dinner with the president an all US supporters, and marched in their rally with his dad in DC. I flew to the west coast and joined forces at the University. Yes, many University’s had rallys yesterday. So nice to come home and then see Angelina putting in her 2 cents. I think the push here in the US put more pressure on our government and it is creating pressure on the Sudanese gov’t now …,but it’s the rebels that are the real problem. We just have to keep the pressure on our people here and get others around the world to do the same. I have such deep respect for Angelina at her young age to be so visionary in her work to further the cause of saving what George said is an entire generation of people.

# 394 | PLS educate Jolie Bottomline is dude is "I’d rather my $1 go to teaching the basics/fundamentals of reading writing & arithematic of 100mil third world children to the fithe grade then having one more dollar given to a war we started and one which has so far cost enough to teach the basics not only TO those 100mil in third world countries, but all the children here in the states, and the rest of North America up to the fifth grade! There is no argument anyone can offer me as an American Citizen that will dilute my anger at being forced to participate via my tax dollars in a war that had no business being waged, and so yeah I haven’t one problem with giving my money to help children or adults here, there and everywhere I can, and especially since it’s something I DO have a choice about instead of no choice at all."I really want to cuss right now, but I’m in a hurry"jpf
