Brangelina Airport
Time Magazine released their TIME 100, a list of global icons –100 men and women whose power, talent or moral example is transforming our world. Angelina Jolie was listed under "Heroes & Pioneers" and an article by Deputy Secretary-General of the U.N. Mark Malloch Brown was posted…
Recently, I took my 13-year-old daughter Maddy to a New York City event honoring Angelina Jolie. Every parent will relate to the fact that Maddy often finds the world of celebrity magazines more interesting than the world of her father—which in my case centers on the United Nations and its work fighting poverty. That night Angelina brought those two worlds together. Maddy was awed by how Angelina used her celebrity to lift all of us beyond the glamour of a Manhattan ballroom and make us confront the grim realities of poverty in the farthest corners of the globe.
That ability to transcend worlds has something to do with Angelina’s movie-star charisma—but it also says something about her diligence and grit. Angelina, 30, spends a great deal of time in the developing world, visiting refugee camps, speaking and listening to the men, women and children she is working to help. Those people, Angelina explained, "have seen so much, they’ve felt so much pain—lost more than anyone could bear, and yet they contain joy of life and appreciation for small things we often forget." It was a further indication of Angelina’s humanity that she stopped to listen and talk to Maddy as the city’s power brokers hovered impatiently, awaiting their brush with celebrity.
Angelina’s commitment as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees has pushed her to speak out about root causes—economic failure and lack of justice. She urged me relentlessly to meet her last year during a stopover at an airport where our paths happened to be crossing, so that I could brief her ahead of her appearance at a big international meeting. It is typical of her. The subject was the Millennium Development Goals—a set of objectives agreed upon by the world’s governments. They range from eradicating poverty to reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS. As always, she wanted to be prepared—not just to share impressions of poverty but to be able to speak seriously to the issues. Angelina went on to make a film for MTV on a village in Kenya, where a pilot project is under way to fight poverty, hunger and disease.
That blending of the activist and the performer, not on the set but in the African bush, reflects her determination to stick with a subject, immerse herself in it, make it part of her life—and then bring her public with her. It is celebrity advocacy at its most effective, most intelligent and most sincere. For that, she has my enduring respect and gratitude—and Maddy’s. (More pictures in the gallery!)

# 429 | suann1. She is a freak. I follow the news to see what other quirky thing she has done, and what other manipulative way she has maneuvered her fan base. I follow her news in the same way I followed Michael Jackson’s news for a while. It’s amusing.Freaky? Okay, you have that right to your opinion. But just so I know what scale you measuring Freaky against, who would consider NOT Freaky? I’m just curious.2. I find VERY amusing the AJ bloggers themselves and the intensity in idolizing a woman compelled to build herself up as a sort of saint…who has to arrange to be in the limelight everytime she does something positive for society (like thousands of other people do as well). You intentionally mistake our ADMIRATION of her and what she stands for IDOLIZING. And again, you conveniently forget that nature of celebrity is that people’s attention will be drawn to those individuals. In some cases it is sought, in other cases the public is naturally drawn to certain individuals. Brad is someone the public and media has always been drawn to without any effort. Since Angelina has been linked with him the attention they get is ten-fold. No extra publicity needed. What they are doing, and which you seem to object to, is not allowing themselves to be manipulated by the media, but is actively controliling their own image and shining attention on causes they believe in. This is very smart. And it is benefiting others. If you had viewed her interview on the Actor’s Studio you would know that Angelina is not denying her past of deitifying herself. She is who she is. If that’s FREAKY to you then so be it. If fans are intense in our admiration then non-fans like yourself are no less intense in their disdain and hatred. In fact I would go as far to state that the fact that she has such a wide fan base makes you fighting mad. Otherwise, why bother posting your opinion if you don’t have strong emotions one way or another? That’s the only reason I post.
I paste the article and I try to write a comment but it did not goes through…ugghh…I don’t know what happened. Any how, I have to rewrite the post comment again. I love all of your posts( AG, Moi Jade, Be Sane, Real Lou, Moi Jade, Jjoy, Orginal jpf and others Bamz supporters), if only everyone thinking the same way…unfortunately it’s not so. My father and I was talking about the important of education, he said that looking back on all of the dictators, terrorist leaders, revolutionalries leaders, most are not great warriors and most are/were not even a soldiers, they are mostly a scholar, educator, or ones with extensive education. Now for us to look at the followers of these people, they are illiterate villagers, farmers, poor people, people with no education, they follows all these leaders blindly( for an example, when my father was in Vietnam, he said that every night the communist party would blasted on the intercom brainwashing the children and women of rural villages, since most of them did not have any education, they don’t know how to read or write, so they listened to "preaching" of the communist party day after day, night after night, eventually the communist got these children and the women to bring grenade and homemade bomb attacking the US soldiers and the SouthVietnamese soldiers camp). So it is very smart of AJ to promote Education, these are the children of the futures to have them work with us in peace and love not hatred and war, " the pen is mightier than the sword"..the old proverb is more true today, the child brain is like a sponge, if we teach them to love instead of hate, to be self sufficient…god, what possibility…for those haters ask yourselves this question, do you want those 40 millions children to grow up uneducated and for them follow a dictator or a terrorist leader?
#450 It’s the tabloid. They have to sell something. I’m however not interested in the couple or their movie, I’m here to support the cause of the less fotunate. Thanks.
#450 Medulla,I really think Life and Style are full of crap.Even if this was true they can vist each other,no big deal.
continue interview…from #413Jolie: It’s moral, and it’s also—it’s also smart, you know? All these poor countries, not just Africa, but Asia as well and all poor areas. It’s gonna be places where our kids are either gonna be visiting and working with, and it’s gonna be a different world. Or it’s gonna be worse than it is now.Angelina has been a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations on behalf of refugees for the last five years. That work brings her to some of the world’s most dangerous places, like Darfur, in Africa, where the U.S. says genocide is occurring.Curry: Despite having everything going for you, you have chosen the hard road to travel to all of these tough places, to adopt the way you do. And that’s why people are fascinated with you. You could be in Malibu, living in a beautiful house—Jolie: See, to me, that’s the tough road. (Laughter)Curry: Why is that the tough road? Jolie: I love… adopting my children was the greatest blessing to me. They are the funniest people I’ve ever met. And they’re the greatest joy in my life. And I feel so blessed that I’ve been allowed to adopt them and bring them into my home. So that was no generous thing of mine. Curry: But you’re traveling to Darfur, you’re going to Pakistan to see earthquake victims. Jolie: When I’ve gone to refugee camps or I’ve gone to places to meet earthquake victims, it is certainly not some big sacrifice of mine. There’s nothing poor and horrible and sad about these people. They’ve inspired me. As a result, Angelina has been spending less time on the sound stages of Hollywood. Curry: Have you ever thought about leaving the movies and making it full time, this work in trying to change the world?Jolie: Well, I don’t want to be responsible for changing the world. I’ve been just traveling with my family for the last few months and that has been more important than making a film.Curry: But movies? Jolie: Well, for now. It is my job. It is what makes it possible for me to be able to fund the programs I care about.Like focusing attention on the 40 million children in Africa, most of them girls, who don’t get the opportunity to go to school. It is clear Angelina loves working with children and told us she and Brad are thrilled to be adding another child to the family.
final part of the interview…Curry: You’re eight months along almost close—Jolie: No, not yet.Curry: Not yet.Jolie: Not yet, no.Curry: How are you feeling?Jolie: I’m feeling fine. I’ve been very, very lucky. I’ve had a very fortunate pregnancy. I didn’t have bad morning sickness time. I haven’t had to slow down, which has been nice for me.Curry: You know what I loved about being pregnant? I loved that feeling of not being alone, of speaking for two. You don’t have that?Jolie: Well, I suppose because I’m always with my kids all the time that I feel like I’m speaking for eight. (Laughter) You know? I suppose it’s more just like having one not sit on the other’s head. But some women are very, very grounded to the earth suddenly. I think I’m still kind of in denial about it.Curry: Denial? Jolie: I still have this kind of funny thing of like I can’t quite believe it. I was always very sure that I would adopt all my children. And I was quite at peace with that. And then things felt different and made some different choices. And we’ll continue to adopt. But now I’m pregnant.Curry: Where does this lead? How many kids do you want, Angie? You’re gonna have three kids. They’re busy. They keep you up at night. They’re—they need—Jolie: We love children, you know? And fortunately, we have the resources to be able to get help where we need it or to have a big enough place. So I think there’s no real plan of stopping. There’s just talk about lots of them. Curry: How do you know when you found one you want to adopt? Jolie: I’m a big believer in just, you know, they find you. So I think—as we travel—yeah, we joke about it now. If I go to visit an orphanage, everybody gets nervous. (Laughter)People magazine declared the expecting parents and their growing clan to be America’s most beautiful family. And Angelina and Brad want to continue their humanitarian work, which in the last few months have seen them visit earthquake victims in Pakistan and advocate for children in Haiti. Curry: How nice is it for you to not be on this path alone? And how much is Brad bringing to the table of what you are trying to do with your life? Jolie: Well, without getting so into (laughter) that personal stuff. People know very little about him, I think, when it comes to where his morals are, where his values are, how he is with people, what he cares about, what he’s learned about. And he’s a very aware person. He’s doing a lot of good things. And he’s a great parent. And so certainly it’s nice to watch him do that. And it’s nice for me to be able to talk about the things I care about and with somebody that does as well. Curry: You seem to have become a formidable duo in this world.Jolie: Yeah. (Laughter) It’s just—the idea, I can’t even—It feels so bizarre to just talk about any kind of, you know? So that is why I giggle about it. I just don’t know how to address it.. Curry: Giggling, I understand is something you’re doing a lot more lately. Jolie: I am.Curry: Is it pregnancy? Is it—Jolie: Well, apparently that’s what I’ve gotten from pregnancy. Brad said this to me, too. I get hysterical now. Like hysterical to the point of crying and falling off the bed. Like I get hysterical.Curry: Are you just joyful? Jolie: Or like I’ll try to read, and then I’ll start laughing. It’ll last for like 20 minutes. And then, you know, I’ll sit back down and focus again. He’s reading, and I’m reading. And we’re sitting there really serious and try—and then I’ll just go. Like it’ll go on for—for hours. (Laughter) It’s really horrible.Curry: There was a girl I once met who didn’t know how to laugh very much who once said to me.Jolie: (laughing) Curry: You’re a mess. You’re laughing. You’re hormonal. Keep it up. Get pregnant more often, because this is working.Jolie: Oh, no, that’s what I started to say… I started to say like I was really miserable before – (laughs)Curry: Well, you were once much more serious. And you’re bright and joyful.Jolie: I have a lot to be happy about.

What’s the crap with these haters who have no life but focus on hating AJ? I honestly belive its not just the BAMZ+1 family, they also hate us the fans at JJ who love BAMZ+1,since we are like friends we have bonded, we kid around, have alots of fun,we support each other (I’ll never forget all of you guys helping me thru with my cats death) sometimes we agree to disagree. I guess what I’m saying is, that irks them as much as AJ?BP, IMO!!!
I really admire Angelina Jolie. For her young life she had done and given a lot to the people who needed the most help. She’s also gorgeous and beautiful.
I support Angie because I read about her struggles in Reader’s Digest when she was trying to get help from Hollywood about her causes and people were not really responding, but see how far you’ve come Angie because you kept fighting. Go Brad for bringing laughter and support into her life.

I’ve been a lurker in this site for sometime. The truth is, I am actually writing a book about the phenomena of “Blogs”. In my research going through all the various political and gossip blogs, I have stumbled this site, which I find it fascinating. As a behavioral Scholar, I am most intrigued by the various back and forth arguments between the “haters” and the “Jolie-Pitt fans”. I must say in my humble professional opinion, that the majority of The Jolie-Pitt fans, possess an enormous maturity in handling impertinent comments by the “Haters”, and an impressive ability to have a well thought out argument without personalizing the issue at hand. The “sarcasms” are quite clever and witty, not to mention well research arguments. For the most part, the Jolie-Pitt fans are probably one of the most diverse cyber-fan base I have encountered in terms of ages, ethnicity, sex, marital status, education and social status (I am simply basing it from what some of you disclosed about yourself on various thread discussions.) Your solidarity among your cyber peers are fascinating to watched which I think is almost a new realm of social dynamic and structure. It also appears that a lot of you, are very eloquent in presenting your ideas and opinions in all kinds of languages, which is simply a sign of sophisticated minds. As an educator myself, all your comments here about the importance of EDUCATION are certainly excellent. The only small thing that I can add, is the fact that because education is a powerful tool for human progress, therefore it has always been perceived as a THREAT against any dictators, rulers, emperors, imperialist leaders since the beginning of time. Education is a tool to gain knowledge – since knowledge is power, to be powerful, is to possess the ability to THINK (freely, rationally, sensibly, wisely, judiciously and logically!!!)….Keep up the fight…don’t be deter and more power to all of you who believes that EDUCATION is a must for ALL…….
