Brangelina Airport
Time Magazine released their TIME 100, a list of global icons –100 men and women whose power, talent or moral example is transforming our world. Angelina Jolie was listed under "Heroes & Pioneers" and an article by Deputy Secretary-General of the U.N. Mark Malloch Brown was posted…
Recently, I took my 13-year-old daughter Maddy to a New York City event honoring Angelina Jolie. Every parent will relate to the fact that Maddy often finds the world of celebrity magazines more interesting than the world of her father—which in my case centers on the United Nations and its work fighting poverty. That night Angelina brought those two worlds together. Maddy was awed by how Angelina used her celebrity to lift all of us beyond the glamour of a Manhattan ballroom and make us confront the grim realities of poverty in the farthest corners of the globe.
That ability to transcend worlds has something to do with Angelina’s movie-star charisma—but it also says something about her diligence and grit. Angelina, 30, spends a great deal of time in the developing world, visiting refugee camps, speaking and listening to the men, women and children she is working to help. Those people, Angelina explained, "have seen so much, they’ve felt so much pain—lost more than anyone could bear, and yet they contain joy of life and appreciation for small things we often forget." It was a further indication of Angelina’s humanity that she stopped to listen and talk to Maddy as the city’s power brokers hovered impatiently, awaiting their brush with celebrity.
Angelina’s commitment as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees has pushed her to speak out about root causes—economic failure and lack of justice. She urged me relentlessly to meet her last year during a stopover at an airport where our paths happened to be crossing, so that I could brief her ahead of her appearance at a big international meeting. It is typical of her. The subject was the Millennium Development Goals—a set of objectives agreed upon by the world’s governments. They range from eradicating poverty to reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS. As always, she wanted to be prepared—not just to share impressions of poverty but to be able to speak seriously to the issues. Angelina went on to make a film for MTV on a village in Kenya, where a pilot project is under way to fight poverty, hunger and disease.
That blending of the activist and the performer, not on the set but in the African bush, reflects her determination to stick with a subject, immerse herself in it, make it part of her life—and then bring her public with her. It is celebrity advocacy at its most effective, most intelligent and most sincere. For that, she has my enduring respect and gratitude—and Maddy’s. (More pictures in the gallery!)

# 550 | COLD HARD MATH Ah-ha. I see. My apologies. I make it a point not to know anything about Kobe these days so I didn’t know when he announced his wife’s pregnancy. There was some irony regarding Kobe’s kid being born, though. I saw that Shaq’s wife gave birth today, too. It was about 30 minutes after Kobe’s wife. I guess poor Shaq’s life is even further entwined with Scumbag Bryant’s. I’m sure Shaq didn’t know that Kobe’s wife had delivered or else he’d have told the doctors to drug his wife to stave off labor for 1 more day!
# 547 | passing thru 2 |We know all that. What you don’t know is that people have been coming here for weeks and have done more than just blog……It is you unfortunately that has the" narrow "mind" that takes a snapshot of us "die hards" and posts such a shallow comment.Read the last 40 blogs on Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt and then we might consider you "opinion".
# 549 | Passing Through | Ditto, they use my nick name my dad gave to me when I was around 2 yrs. They (haters)keep adding letters or numbers to the name. It hurts cause that nick name is so special to me, to see the haters use it in a variation it bugs me…. But we know’ how shallow and worthless they are rght!!!!# 544 | Moi Jade | Come on Moi Jade, you have to read the whole thread !!! Go back a few pages! You’ll know and we need your creativety :)))))
How pitiful and sad that these people have to hang on AJ’s every word in order to take direction in world issues. But these fans need to realize these are not new issues, many have and continue to be at the forefront and make a difference (like many jewish leaders), and that AJ’s involvment did not just suddenyl created a march in DC, a change in world leaders views, etc etc. This attitude of the die-hard fans shows such narrowness in thinking and makes me wonder if they ever read a paper, watch the news or non-AJ interviews. # 547 | passing thru 2 Honestly, you are too much. We are not kiddies on a play ground who are playing "follow the Leader". Please read the posts…again and you’d see most of the posters do bring up issues to the board that have nothing whatsoever to do with AJ.What baffles me is why you have a problem with people commending someone for doing something good? Usually, I don’t justify the things I do or why I do them but your post shows a narrowness in thinking which is the only reason you’d make such a ridiculous statement. You are missing the point because if as you say, you have been reading the post … with an open mind, you’d have gotten. So believe what you want, we don’t read newspapers, we don’t watch TV except our almost worn out copy of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. News? What news?
Okay, I was just watching the Colbert Report…to be honest I’m not really into his show but it comes after Jon Stewart, whom I absolutely adore…Anyway, Colbert starts talking about Celebrities pushing causes. This is what he said"So George Clooney is Pushing for Darfur and the He- She that makes Brangelina are pushing education….Do this celebrities know what their job is? To provide Escapism….to teach us how to dress, how to walk and how to pimp our rides. If he (George Clooney) succeeds, he’s going to influence our children to stop watchingTV and start caring about the world…" I didn’t catch the rest because I was laughing. This is precisely why some people have issues with the likes of AJ, BP and GC going to places that aren’t "hollywoody"
Angelina totally GETS it. She KNOWS what is important, and goes about doing it herself, for her own personal satisfaction. She is a world treasure and a true Goddess of Love. She is blessed and protected, and she is doing God’s work on this planet. How could any man NOT have fallen in love with a woman like Angelina? Keep up the good work Angelina, the world needs you.
Ditto. Ethiopian Psychic. Ditto.
# 117 | Original Curious"How many didn’t have just a little "awww" moment at the picture of Brad’s hand on Angelina."That seems to be Brad’s signature gesture on Angie. Wasn’t that Dr. Spock’s Vulcan hand grip? (I haven’t watched Star Trek in such a long time.) With Jennifer, he seemed to favor the head lock on Jennifer. Wasn’t that a favorite hold put on one of the Three Stooges? # 244 | Passing Through"It was the comment about just being glad that one kid wasn’t trying to sit on the other’s head. … Just now I remembered that my mother has pictures of one of my older brothers trying to sit on MY HEAD when we were kids!"That was a funny line. Angie underestimates her sense of humor - hormonal-induced or not. My mother never had to worry about any of us sitting on each other’s faces, but she had different worries. Instead, she had to think like an airport-security screener: Remove all pointy and sharp objects from the premises. It was a good thing chopsticks couldn’t be used as a weapon or else we would have been reduced to eating with our fingers. # 268 | JOLIE IS THE BEST"This new format is still taking a long time to load so can we go back to the old format?"Hear, hear! Aaargh, I don’t like the new paging format. I hate (yes HATE) clicking on each page when I could have the whole shebang (no, William Hung, that’s not a song request) on one screen. The continuous thread was the nice advantage this site had over others, besides the other obvious reasons. I guess, I’m just going to have to adjust since I doubt lumpias or pouting will make a difference, right? :o( # 282 | jjoy Apparently according to longstanding PH regulars, Perez Hilton met Jennifer once and found her to be cold and bitchy. Hence, his running mockery of Jennifer. # 291 | guli You’re very sweet, but please call off the APB dogs, Guli, or else my lapdog is gonna get jealous. She may be a teeny weeny dog. But what she lacks in size, she makes up in bite. # 367 | 88 Don’t worry 88. You don’t need a petition to end Jennifer’s film career. The market will eventually take care of that. And no amount of protesting or tantrums by the Aniston fans will change the market of no demand. # 383 | The Movie68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes isn’t anything to be dancing about. That’s barely over 1/2 hating the films and 1/2 liking it. Again, where it counts - in the box office, it has accumulated about $8 million so far in 4 weeks of release. Last weekend’s gross wasn’t promising as the weekend take dropped 35% even as theatres increased 19%. Yes, the film is an independent but unless it cracks $50 million, it won’t be anything to write home about even if it becomes profitable. Perception is pure box office numbers and not the income statement. For most films that box office milestone is the $100 million mark. For indies, $50 million maybe. And it looks like FWM is on a difficult track to make even $20 million. # 394 | PLS educate Jolie What a great example of corruption and distortion of Angie’s message about education! For one, there is a difference between INDOCTRINATION and EDUCATION. Get at least that fundamental fact right. Yes, American education has a lot to be desire and to be improved, but last I’ve checked, the States is still the richest nation in the world and LITERACY rate of 99%. # 398 | JensMOMisHOMELESSOnce again, I loved your post! And you’re funny at that: "If you find out Dakota Fanning gave her lunch money towards a cause you’re philosophically opposed to - can we THEN look forward to a RANT about HER TOO??!!"# 421 | ditto edu-Jolie Yes, we’ve been getting it you hate Angie. As the question has been posed many times before by many of us, why continue to listen to her? Go seek your own false idols. # 446 | XanHey Xan, it’s great to have you back as a regular contributor with your well-written posts. # 447 | suann-?????Whoever you are, by your first (?) post from a lurker, you ought to do it more often!! # 455 | Estelle |"There’s nothing poor and horrible and sad about these people."First, thank you, thank you, Estelle for posting the transcript of the interview. I love that comment by Angie and it resonates with me. It shows she has not a hint of condescension or arrogant attitude in "saving" those people as some with a saviour complex have. Even people of lesser fortunes and circumstances have a sense of pride of which they don’t want to be pitied. # 472 | ProfessorThank you for posting your comments. # 493 | Passing ThroughRemember what Kristin Hahn said about them having a baby in Jennifer’s Vanity Fair interview? "My worst fear is that Jen will have to face them having a baby together soon, because that would be beyond beyond painful," says Kristin Hahn. That article came out sometime in mid or late August with a publication date of September. With the recurring speculations of the due and conception date of the Jolie-Pitt baby, yesterday, I came to a thought of when they might have decided to conceive in context of that interview. Even when we’re not Angie herself, the common reaction to the interview was of disgust at Jennifer’s orchestration of her pity symphony. We can imagine how much worse Angie might have reacted. Well, hell, Brad fired Hahn’s big-mouth ass from Plan B. So I was thinking they might have thought something in line of: "Yeah, we’ll be her worst nightmare and fear by having that baby. Be careful what you fear for it may become a fulfilled prophecy." That’s sticking it to her. # 504 | Passing ThroughTo add onto your own views on Lainey, I’m also an admitted fan but not with blind devotion. Do I like her writing? Hell, yes. In fact, I think she’s vying for the wrong job with US weekly as a gossip writer. That’s not her calling. She should replace Isaac Mizhari as a fashion commentator for E! Red Carpet. She has the caustic humor that is far fresher and snappier than anything Joan Rivers has done. Having said that, Lainey is a celebrity watcher and not the celebrity herself. Unless she gets her information from insiders, she has to speculate just like the rest of us. She has been accurate in her reports where she notes they came from inside sources. But in her cynical comments about press manipulation, she doesn’t cite sources as providing those assessments. Instead, it’s shaped by her own Lainey’s cynical biases about Hollywood. # 547 | passing thru 2Have you ever thought the reason many of AJ’s fans gravitate to her is because she shares the same advocacy passion as she? And she wasn’t necessarily the one who sparked or inspired these fans to be advocates? Oh, no, you can’t think out of that air bubble of hate to see only what you boxed yourself into.
Cindy2, OK no more apb’s from, # 291 | guli
# 558 | cindy2Love your posts as usual. Keeping it real in the surreal world we live in.
Inspector/Detective AddictedtoBAMZ+1 signing in…there are so many posts here I have long since forgotten what is at the top of where I am right now, but I THINK it is the new group of pictures of many people disembarking from a small plane somewhere in Africa. I have been squinting hard at the pictures trying to see Brad, and while doing so I noticed the man in front in photo #26, wearing a two-tone green shirt, looks just like Brad’s father. Does anyone else agree? Then again, I suppose it could be the pilot…
# 561 | AddictedtoBAMZ+1There’s a pic in this link http://community.livejournal.com/brad_news/145458.html but I still cannot quite see it perfectly…I’m already 4 eyes lmao. BTW stop squiting…it’s bad jp. I wish there would be a lot more pics..bleh

# 561 | AddictedtoBAMZ+1 I’ve never seen a photo of Brad’s father, but it looks like someone with the airplane charter company to me. He doesn’t really look old enough to be Brad’s father.
I think it is the pilot as well. Looks like that type of uniform. Brad, papa bear, looks like he’s trying to get everybody where they need to be. Well, this is good practice in organization for those 7+ kids they plan to have, he’ll need it.
#487 Wake Up - As is George Clooney, altough he is more informed and able to speak about the issues more clearly. Are you kidding me?! The issue in Darfur has been going on for ages. Needless to say, AJ has been voicing about it since the first time she went there, ever reading her journals. As to tail raider, it’s more like GC’s (while we appreciate some of these celebrities are doing now, but it should have been before) Oh, well all helps are good but then again beware of people who’s clearly riding on the situation. Hey why don’t you try living in Darfur refugee camps for sometime before you speak your mind.
i was reading randomly on the posts as there are so many. Posts by Professor and AG about education and illiteracy in Africa is an eye-opener. Then I read some nasty posts. I sometimes wonder where do people get this insane idea. I would love to rebutt but why waste time. These "haters" are clearly the people who are boxed-up with hollywood image of celebrities, so hang-up and blinded by the truth instead of being enlightened by it.
THIS IS COPY AT PETITIONS.COM TO GET ANISTON OFF SCREEN:To: Hollywood Movie IndustryAs part of the movie going public, We would ask the Hollywood Movie Industry to stop subjecting the public to anymore Jennifer Aniston movies. We think that Jennifer Aniston is a TV actress with limited talent, screen presence, and beauty that is not ideal for movie screens. Putting Jennifer Aniston in a movie severely limits movies entertainment value and quality. Her presence in movies, limits the enjoy ability of the movie, as her acting, personality, and presence is quite irritating to the average movie going public. She has already received numerous chances to make a career-defining role but has not been able to capitalize on it. We ask industry executives to give other up and coming actresses the chance to make career-defining roles. In conjunction we would like to ask Print Media to limit the amount of Jennifer Aniston coverage on her complaints and excessive whining about her life. We also would like to ask Print Media to stop the constant barrage of Jennifer Aniston Coverage.Sincerely,HERE IS THE LINK IF YOU WANT TO SIGN PETITION TO GET JENNIFER ANISTON OFF SCREEN :http://www.petitiononline.com/ma…g/ petition.htm
These 2 are so lucky to have each other.BAMZ ALWAYS!
568……….no worry……….Aniston will be history when Brangelina’s baby is born. Jen will run off somewhere, she can’t take this one.
#568 and 570 Even though Brad and Angelina are dear to our hearts Jennifer Anniston is as well. You both are not even involved in their lives yet you both are displaying horrible hate. By acting the way you are and trying to cause problems is only making things worse for Brad and Angelina. They do not care to associate with people who act like that.
#558 Cindy2,No I do not think AJ would get preg. at the time because of the VF article. If you go through all of her interviews, she always said good things about people, and tried to understand person’ behavior. And also AJ said that she would not intentionally hurt anybody. So even if it is just a joke in your part, I do never think that AJ got preg at the time to get Brad’ X to regret what and be so unhappy.
# 572 | Nana, to be truthful, I really was just playing around with the thought and not seriously working out this issue of the day with their conception plans. Consider it one of my wild & crazy ideas that was brought on by the discussions of either the due or conception date. With the speculated due date in early June, it would coincide with a conception date sometime in late August, working back 40 weeks. (HELP ME OUT, Moi Jade!) I’m with you that Angie has a good heart. And frankly, she couldn’t be bothered with X. She may not care about her - which is a crowded boat, but I doubt she would waste one thought on X.
