Brangelina Airport
Time Magazine released their TIME 100, a list of global icons –100 men and women whose power, talent or moral example is transforming our world. Angelina Jolie was listed under "Heroes & Pioneers" and an article by Deputy Secretary-General of the U.N. Mark Malloch Brown was posted…
Recently, I took my 13-year-old daughter Maddy to a New York City event honoring Angelina Jolie. Every parent will relate to the fact that Maddy often finds the world of celebrity magazines more interesting than the world of her father—which in my case centers on the United Nations and its work fighting poverty. That night Angelina brought those two worlds together. Maddy was awed by how Angelina used her celebrity to lift all of us beyond the glamour of a Manhattan ballroom and make us confront the grim realities of poverty in the farthest corners of the globe.
That ability to transcend worlds has something to do with Angelina’s movie-star charisma—but it also says something about her diligence and grit. Angelina, 30, spends a great deal of time in the developing world, visiting refugee camps, speaking and listening to the men, women and children she is working to help. Those people, Angelina explained, "have seen so much, they’ve felt so much pain—lost more than anyone could bear, and yet they contain joy of life and appreciation for small things we often forget." It was a further indication of Angelina’s humanity that she stopped to listen and talk to Maddy as the city’s power brokers hovered impatiently, awaiting their brush with celebrity.
Angelina’s commitment as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees has pushed her to speak out about root causes—economic failure and lack of justice. She urged me relentlessly to meet her last year during a stopover at an airport where our paths happened to be crossing, so that I could brief her ahead of her appearance at a big international meeting. It is typical of her. The subject was the Millennium Development Goals—a set of objectives agreed upon by the world’s governments. They range from eradicating poverty to reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS. As always, she wanted to be prepared—not just to share impressions of poverty but to be able to speak seriously to the issues. Angelina went on to make a film for MTV on a village in Kenya, where a pilot project is under way to fight poverty, hunger and disease.
That blending of the activist and the performer, not on the set but in the African bush, reflects her determination to stick with a subject, immerse herself in it, make it part of her life—and then bring her public with her. It is celebrity advocacy at its most effective, most intelligent and most sincere. For that, she has my enduring respect and gratitude—and Maddy’s. (More pictures in the gallery!)

# 152 | Original jpf"caca" Does that mean the same what it means in French? I say that about 5 times a day to my kids ("do you want to go caca?) :)
Jolie Quotes on DatelineMy Life is fullOn Brad Pitt - Nobody knows who is, how he is with people. On Family - For the last four months, I’ve just been traveling with my family. On Her Children - They makes me happy, they make me laugh. On Her career - It’s something I do to fund these causes. On Education - All Children deserve an education.I tell ya, I was giggling with her, especially when she said they’d both be reading, being all serious and suddenly she’d start giggling. I laughed when she said she’d sometimes fall off the bed. Can imagine the look on BP’s face?Glad I saw the show. So very glad.
BeSaneYES! It was a joke that I made.LOLI said that most of the haters or all of them find their information at http://www.cacadata.com.
African Girl,Thank you!Not fair, can’t wait! I have to put my kids in bed first (I TiVoed it)
# 157 | African Girl Me to AG, when she said they were reading, that just struck me so funny more because I could just envision him looking at her, and she’s like "I can’t help it!"jpf.
good interview. i liked when she talked about adopting more children and how madd and zahara are the ones that brought so much into her life, not the other way around. the giggling is enchanting. the image of BP & AJ reading in bed together…sigh! that should be the first scene of the next fanfic.
Also, when she said she was at peace with adoption and assumed that would be how her children would come, but then "things felt different" . love itjpf
# 157 | African Girl | Hi there AG, I was cracking up with her too…But, the oddest thing was my hubby was watching with me and he knows how much I love this family etc…,but in general he is like OK they are cute. But, tonight after we were done watching, the first thing he said was her laughter is contagiuos, she definetly is no dummy and man Brad is one lucky guy!!! Well, at that point I threw a pillow at his head, thank god I didn’t have kitchen knives at hand:-))
#152 / Passing ThroughI felt the same way. She hardly gave her a chance to talk. Sorta asking the questions and answering them her self. All in all, it was good to see AJ laughing. When she asked "was I that Miserable?" I almost broke a funny bone. I like that she can poke fun at herself. The look on her face when she said "saving the world, I don’t want that responsibility"…oh, I could go on and and on….
Who knew…..She goes to make a movie and finds her son, and he changed everything. She AGAIN goes to make a movie, and finds a life partner. Yep the girl has been blessed abundatly, the kids, and Brad. What a beautiful turn of events.here’s to fresh squeezed OJ in Malibu!jpf

# 161 | gitane OT….Nothing big just wanted to say everytime I see your name I want a cigarette! I haven’t smoked in 5yrs, but I did enjoy Gitane’s when I was feeling martini-esque :)jpf
i almost choked on my chocolate when they said "fresh squeezed OJ in Malibu." it’s so sad, but my mind immediately went to the "beast that shall not be named."anyway, AJ makes we want to adopt every orphan in the universe.

# 168 | gitane I don’t worry, I think 90% of the viewers "went there" with you…..I know i did. But you know what, I doubt either AC or AJ even made the connect. I can just tell JA is not something AJ concerns herself with, and I doubt seriously AC does either. HA! Fresh squeezed OJ in Malibu…that should be a song. Moi Jade could work it.jpf
Just watched Angie on Dateline and what a great interview. Angie is in total love love love with Brad Pitt ("Brad great father, people don’t know him, good man, didn’t think I would have a baby but things changed"). I have been an Angie fan for years, and I have never ever seen Angie so extremely happy! All those stories as to Brad being "whipped" and Angie being the "boss" who will soon leave him are definitely wrong. Angie is not going anywhere anytime and neither is Brad. Also hooray she told everyone that "my pregnancy has been fine, no morning sickness, etc" while touching her much wanted "baby". See how foolish are those who believe any of the many tabloid lies as to Angie having a difficult pregnancy and putting her baby in danger and not wanting her baby. See how the foolish have been fooled by the tabloids who have made up whatever in order to sell more copies. Can’t help but wonder how many Jolie-Pitts they will end up with as she said "we both want more children and have no final number in mind" and "we are lucky that we have the resources to afford them". What a great description of the two of them "both reading, being serious, and her breaking out in giggles". Truly, who would have thought it that these two would be two halves of a whole!
# 167 | Original jpf don’t start again because of me! the martini sounds good, though.my ID is all about my happy feet. i happily suffer from wanderlust. and, i like french even though it’s not my best language.
#163 / GuliOh my, thank God there were no knives, the poor man. My younger brother has a crush on her….yeah, he says she’s the type you can be buddies and still be completely in love with. Beauty, Brains and Buddy.I also noticed how comfortable the children were with her….they were drawn to her. Of course who wouldn’t, there is an air of sincerity about her.
V# 170 | Original jpf | # 169 | gitane | Hey jpf, god I was thinking of the same thing I quit for about 10 years while I was preg. with the kids now, when I go out with my friends and a have a glass of wine I smoke one or two of the light crap! But Gitane, dag I do miss those :)
You can tell that she have this positive energy, just by looking at her. She is really happy, and by the way she talks(or the betwwen the lines) about Brad, she found somebody to share things in common. To me they catch each other off guard, maye Angie was thinking that Brad was superficial and Brad was thinking that Angie was an irresponsible, (this before MAMS). I’m happy for them, god gives them the energy to continue to do this job, and bless them with all the happiness they deserve.Que Viva La BAMZ+1!
i missed it? (tear), African Girl, did it air already our time?
#152 Passing Through,I agree with you about the interview.Ann spent to much time tring to talk about Angelina’s personal life and not the subject at hand.To be honest Angelina didn’t tell us anything that hasn’t been dicussed here already.Well maybe the part about her pregnancy health,we didn’t know.
