Time Magazine released their TIME 100, a list of global icons –100 men and women whose power, talent or moral example is transforming our world.  Angelina Jolie was listed under "Heroes & Pioneers" and an article by Deputy Secretary-General of the U.N. Mark Malloch Brown  was posted…

Recently, I took my 13-year-old daughter Maddy to a New York City event honoring Angelina Jolie. Every parent will relate to the fact that Maddy often finds the world of celebrity magazines more interesting than the world of her father—which in my case centers on the United Nations and its work fighting poverty. That night Angelina brought those two worlds together. Maddy was awed by how Angelina used her celebrity to lift all of us beyond the glamour of a Manhattan ballroom and make us confront the grim realities of poverty in the farthest corners of the globe.

That ability to transcend worlds has something to do with Angelina’s movie-star charisma—but it also says something about her diligence and grit. Angelina, 30, spends a great deal of time in the developing world, visiting refugee camps, speaking and listening to the men, women and children she is working to help. Those people, Angelina explained, "have seen so much, they’ve felt so much pain—lost more than anyone could bear, and yet they contain joy of life and appreciation for small things we often forget." It was a further indication of Angelina’s humanity that she stopped to listen and talk to Maddy as the city’s power brokers hovered impatiently, awaiting their brush with celebrity.

Angelina’s commitment as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees has pushed her to speak out about root causes—economic failure and lack of justice. She urged me relentlessly to meet her last year during a stopover at an airport where our paths happened to be crossing, so that I could brief her ahead of her appearance at a big international meeting. It is typical of her. The subject was the Millennium Development Goals—a set of objectives agreed upon by the world’s governments. They range from eradicating poverty to reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS. As always, she wanted to be prepared—not just to share impressions of poverty but to be able to speak seriously to the issues. Angelina went on to make a film for MTV on a village in Kenya, where a pilot project is under way to fight poverty, hunger and disease.

That blending of the activist and the performer, not on the set but in the African bush, reflects her determination to stick with a subject, immerse herself in it, make it part of her life—and then bring her public with her. It is celebrity advocacy at its most effective, most intelligent and most sincere. For that, she has my enduring respect and gratitude—and Maddy’s. (More pictures in the gallery!)

Thank you guys who have seen the interview already for the 411, us folks on the West Coast have to wait a little longer

Ange on Brad: People know very little about him I think when it comes to what his morals are, values are, how he is with people. What he cares about, what he’s learned about - He is a very aware person. He’s doing a lot of good things and he’s a great parent. Its nice to watch him do that and nice for me to talk about the things I care about with somebody who does as well.

i got the sense that she was trying hard not to gush about brad. her smile got bigger every time she said his name.# 170 | Original jpf # 173 | guli am i going to have to change my ID for the sake of the ex-smokers?

# 175 | AliciaI think all entertainment shows will have bits and pieces of it tomorrow, including CNN. Also pittcenter.com will most likely post the entire interview soon. :)

#175 / AliciaOh my, it was at 6 not 7. Aww, sweetie and I wanted to record it but didn’t have enough time. Oh, I think they’ll show it again at 11pm.

be sane: thanks for the consolation, but I hope I’ll be able to see the WHOLE interview, not just soundbytes….that will not suffice

Gitane- no we are OK, we are just remembering the good old days, we love your name :)OK,for folks who don’t live in US, this is my suggestion, by tomorrow morning (our time) this interview will be on the following link. PLEASE DON’T HURL ANY LARGE OBJECTS:This was the first time I have ever felt sorry for "fresh squeezed OJ in Malibu."Today had to be like a final sledgehammer blow to what was not just FSOJiM, but for all who knew them when. As short as the interview was it proved what has been said all along "Brad is a good man." He didn’t even have to be there for that to be proven, and I’m probably more happy for him as I am for AJ. In fact I’m freaking thrilled for the man,jpf

# 97 | LookMaNoHandsfeel sorry for urself piggy…coz…nobody will hold ur hands…give you babies…why….coz ur fugly like maniston…old and dried up!!

# 186 | guli thanks. gitane i will stay.they’ll most definitely re-run the interview. the question is when.

Alexanderina @ 04/30/2006 at 9:02 pm

Original jpf @ 04/30/2006 at 9:06 pm

The Real Lou @ 04/30/2006 at 9:06 pm

Angelina and Brad are lucky to have found each other. To bad certain people won’t move forward reguarding the divorce and Angelina’s past.Brad is much more compatiable with Angelina than he ever was with his ex.Brad has stated many times that he wanted 7 kids, well he will have them now.I don’t care what anybody says,no way JA would have wanted 7 kids.Even with most of them being adopted ,she couldn’t deal with it.Like I have said many times before Angelina is sooo in love with Brad and he is soooo in love with her.She finally found a winner.

I am so excited almost time. I am west coast too.. Any Oregonians out there? As far as cigarettes, any cigar smokers? I love me a cigar and glass of port>.

Passing Through @ 04/30/2006 at 9:11 pm

Angie is in total love love love with Brad Pitt ("Brad great father, people don’t know him, good man, didn’t think I would have a baby but things changed"). # 170 | kk+++++++I had 2 thoughts when she said this. My first thought was that JA is an even bigger fool than I thought, but that’s beside the point. And the second thought was a reminder of that New York article that JJ posted a few weeks ago where one of the tabloid editors said it absolutely blew his mind that it was Angelina having Brad’s baby. The reason that particular quote came to mind is that it really underscores how adamant AJ must’ve been about not having children. I think if you asked the general public they would have thought of JA in a maternal light before AJ and yet it’s the exact opposite. It’s something that to me blows away all the negative comments the haters can come up with. Say what you will about the woman, but it’s obvious that she loves not just her children, but ALL children.

lookwhaticando @ 04/30/2006 at 9:11 pm

Thanks JJ, the Dateline Interview was really nice fellow fans.

# 191 | gitane | They usually put it on the web site the next day before noon. But as we all know there is nothing usual about the media coverage re: this couple and family is getting. So I don’t know, I’m just going by history :) # 170 | Original jpf- I can still see that squre box of Gitane, was it blue and white in color(the pack), it has been so long I can’t remember :)

Alexanderina @ 04/30/2006 at 9:12 pm

I just saw on Perezhilton.Com a picture of Maniston playing in the park. PerezHilton called her a man

# 189 | Original jpf i’m with you. i don’t want to start any conversations about "fresh squeezed OJ in malibu," but this has got to be overwhelming. angie’s EVERYWHERE with BRAD. people, hello!, time, today, dateline. and, she’s giggling! as much as i’ve never liked "fresh squeezed OJ in malibu," you know it’s got to be really sour right now.

Original jpf @ 04/30/2006 at 9:13 pm

# 195 | julia Love porto vino! cigar? not so much. Pipe smoke smells good, Hey, Portland? I plan on a visit and I really want to go to Caprial’s Bistro…..I’m a foodie.jpf
