Ciara :: Guy artists, y’all get it bad. What crazy fan experiences have you had?
Chris Brown :: I like to interact with a crowd, so I’ll touch hands and wink at the girls and talk. I was in D.C. doing a show, and I got too close. They started at my shoestrings, then they started going at my shorts, my jacket, and then, you know, they pulled me into the crowd.
C :: Did you panic?
CB :: Nan. I called to security and they threw me back onstage. By that time my clothes were halfway ripped off, and I was basically molested. [laughs]

Charging through European tours, engaging in dance-offs at clubs, getting "molested" by female fans — life’s pretty tough for R&B’s 17-year-old phenomenon. And he’s only getting started. Chris Brown is interviewed by Ciara (she’s working on a follow-up to her 2004 debut, Goodies, due out in the fall) in the May 2006 issue of Interview Magazine. Chris Brown’s first single, "Run It!", sprinted to No. 1 on the charts, and thanks to contributions from friends like Scott Storch and production duo Cool and Ore, his debut album has turned a lot of heads. Brown took some time on the road to compare notes with fellow chart-topper Ciara on life in the R&B fast lane.

CIARA :: Hey, Chris! Where are you?
CHRIS BROWN :: I’m in Houston, on my way to the hotel.
C :: Somebody told me you were in London.
CB :: I got off the plane literally an hour ago.
C :: Are you enjoying the run that you’re on?
CB :: For the most part. You go through a lot, but being able to travel and see different places and cultures is just a great experience.
C :: What’s your favorite place so far?
CB :: Japan was real cool. And I like Amsterdam ’cause of the party scene. I did a show there, and so many kids were just having fun dancing.
C :: Speaking of which, do you battle when you go to clubs now?
CB :: No, but dudes will come up to me, and even if I don’t feel like dancing, they’ll be like, "I heard you dope. I think I could beat you!"
C :: When’s the last time you were home?
CB :: Christmas. I went to the mall to pick up some gifts, but all the people—
C :: [laughs] Why’d you do that?
CB :: I thought it wouldn’t be that packed. I called the mall four hours ahead of time and said, "All I need is four security guards." No offense to the ladies, but it was two little women guards and an older gentleman. I was like, "If these girls twist y’all out of the way, it’s gonna be a problem."

C :: That’s crazy! You and I had our first singles get to No. 1. I don’t think people know how much work it is to promote records.
CB :: When I started, my publicist, Tice, was like, "I’m giving you an example of how you’re gonna be working." He showed me your itinerary. You had so much to do.
C :: I can imagine what your schedule is like now. Do you know what the third single from
your record’s going to be?
CB :: "Gimme That."
C :: Yay! I love that song! You write a lot of your music. How important is that?
CB :: It’s totally 100 percent important, because you publish it and you can survive the rest of your life off one record. But if you didn’t write it, you’re just gonna have to—
C :: Have to hustle. I agree with you. I enjoyed speaking with you. My life as an interviewer is now over, [laughs]
CB :: All right, Ciara. Be safe, and keep God first.

I don’t think that chris brown should be compared to usher because though they do have a lot in common, their styles are very different. Usher has a more sophisticated album, about sex, clubbing, and adult things that is appealing to a younger audience. Chris Brown’s album was more on the teenage level, and had a lot of club bangers, but also some very beautiful songs as well. Both of them can dance their butts off, but to compare them is ridiculous. They are just both two male R&B artists who are fine, and can sing and dance. I love both of them, but in different ways, and for different reasons.

Hey this is Mesha from Miami. I just wanted to say Chris Brown you are a great singer and dancer. Your music is real. You are not trying to be like some people who just sing or rap about money and gurls you just keep it real and I like that. I love your song Say Goodbye. That song just gets my day going I sing it all day long. I just really wanted to say keep your head and keep doing what u r doing and because of u I have started taking dance for real. I always loved dancing but never really stayed with it but now I cant stop dancing and I just wanted to say thank you in a way giving me the drive to keep going.
