If you think about all the similarities between her and AJ, the one that sticks most firmly in my mind is her contentious relationship with her father. Henry Fonda was a phenomonal actor…but a ****** parent. He and Jane battled like cats and dogs for YEARS. They get along for a while, then Jane would do something Henry didn’t approve of - becoming an actress. They’d have a falling out, then she’d make overtures to repair their relationship. Things would be fine for a while, then she’d do something else he didn’t like - get involved Roger Vadim. They didn’t talk for a real long time, then she stepped in it with Vietnam and of course Hank was a vet, so that really frosted his shorts. And on and on it went her whole life. She once said that Henry Fonda only loved his children when they did want he wanted them to do. Oddly enough it was making a film together, "On Golden Pond", about a bad relationship between a father and daughter that finally brought them both some closure. HF died shortly after that movie wrapped and I know JF has always maintained that she didn’t know what she’d have done if she and her father had never made up. Maybe AJ will reach that point one day, but for now, she’s not there, so JV needs to step off and give the woman space.
