Sarah Jessica Parker in Vacancy

Sex and the City actress Sarah Jessica Parker is to star in a horror movie. She will play a wife in Vacancy, battling depraved perverts who kill people and film the murders. Last night, an insider revealed: "It’s a very controversial role for Sarah. Since Sex and the City, she’s just starred in gentle romantic comedies. "Vacancy will be extremely violent and explicit. It’s a million miles away from her previous work." In the movie, Sarah and her husband check into a motel unaware there is a hidden camera in their room. The insider added: "She has to watch as the film makers torture and kill her husband."

New York, NY :: 41-year-old actress Sarah Jessica Parker swept up the trash in front of her Manhattan apartment this past weekend. She wore an INSPI(RED) t-shirt, a nod to the Global Fund, which raises funds to help women and children with HIV/AIDS in Africa. SJP and huband Matthew Broderick make cameos in the much-delayed big-screen version of Strangers With Candy, which finally comes out on June 28. It’s based on the 2001 Comedy Central series that’s like an after-school special gone awry in which Amy Sedaris plays Jerry Blank and Stephen Colbert plays her not-very-closeted teacher. I like SJP, she seems so down-to-earth compared to so many other actresses. I mean besides Aniston how many other actresses can you think of that would sweep in front of their NY pad like that? Can’t see Gwyn doing that either, nor that husband of hers.

The truth is often funnier than any cracks we make. I used to like SJP a lot more as delightful and disarming but since Sex and the City, she comes off as trying too hard, as Jamie Lee Curtis or Mary Lou Henner does on interviews. But I still like her as part of the duo with Matthew Broderick. I don’t find anything particularly objectionable about her personality, unlike the person she is often lumped with.

She does seem to have let her roots go for some time now, so maybe she is growing it out. Or, maybe with all the processing for movies, if she’s between projects she gives her hair a break. She has thick, naturally curly hair, so it takes a lot of work adn with a small child, and obviously a person who doesn’t rely on lots of staff to take care of her, she just lets it be.This is part of her popularity — she is a REAL PERSON first and foremost, and acts like the rest of us, not like some pampered Hollywood princess. So she’s not a glamour girl — good for her!
