Well, I guess it’s more like a mini-muffin, since Angie’s apparently still not eating even though she’s pregnant. We all thought the Tomkitten would be a gigantic deal — her parents even gave her a name that means "pickpocket" in Japanese — but the progeny of Brad and Angelina is not to be overshadowed. New York Magazine even reported, "Not since Jesus has a baby been so eagerly anticipated." Um, blown out of proportion a little? Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have made a resort in Namibia their home, and Angie is planning on giving birth there. The country is reportedly thrilled at the presence of Brangelina. A USA Today article from May 3 quoted Ambassador Hopelong Ipinge from the Embassy of the Republic of Namibia in Washington, D.C., as saying that Brad and Angelina’s stay in the country is good for "world cultural understanding" as well as tourism. I’m sorry, but I don’t think that of all the countries in Africa, one that pops out some of the world’s nicest diamonds and is host to "luxury safari trips" needs any extra attention. Ding ding! Here comes the Sudan truck! Jolie, however, is as wily as her catlike looks would suggest. She seemed to have anticipated the Darfur comeback with her recent ad in USA Today during the week of April 23, which tried to refocus attention on the area by describing the ongoing atrocities there. She even anticipated snitty reactions about her only being a pretty face by stating outright in the Darfur ad, "I’m an actress and certainly no foreign policy expert." Angelina, since she decided to stop wearing vials of blood around her neck, has been impressively dedicated to her work as a U.N. ambassador, though I think we all knocked her down a few notches on the moral-o-meter when she broke up a marriage. She even got Brad into the whole activism thing. Don’t get me wrong. I’m all about putting pretty faces with important global causes if it gets them attention. And I’m not saying I’d expect Angelina to put her family in danger and give birth to her baby in a high-conflict area, but this whole "I am an African woman, I wear native hair jewelry" thing is just a little over the top. She claims to have fallen in love with Namibia, and it all seems to fit in nicely with her passion for travel. Angelina’s two adopted children were both from exotic locations — Maddox was born in Cambodia and Zahara was born in Ethiopia — and Angelina reportedly feels that giving birth to her child in Namibia will increase the bond between all three. First of all, Angelina can hope all she wants, but people in America will always know Maddox as the cute Cambodian kid with the mohawk, and Zahara will always be the beautiful baby Angelina always carried in the papoose. Second, though both her adopted children are lovely little kids and will probably grow up to be really attractive, how are they going to compete with the genetic combination of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt? The couple also reportedly wants to name the new baby "Africa." I’m convinced this move could only be to humble him or because his parents are smug and know that only hot kids can get away with names like "Africa." I guess the point, Angie, is that you tried hard and you wore the native garb, but I’m not buyin’ it. We all saw the pictures of you in your black tapered pants before the preggers days, and, yes, we’re all aware that you’re not such a fan of food. I mean, "that which nourishes me also destroys me?" We get the tattoo. Isn’t it a little ironic when someone who could have all the food she wants but denies herself of it tries to be a spokesperson for those who are not starving of their own volition? That makes about as much sense as having a walk-a-thon for paraplegics. Also, you’re not being impressively native when you rent out more than seven rooms in a swanky resort for three months. You’re pregnant. You’re allowed to be a hormonal ***** who demands feather down pillows. Embrace it. You’re even allowed to come off a little wacko a la Tom Cruise and laugh giddily and inappropriately in your interview with NBC News. But don’t try to shroud it in this "roughing-it" guise. I just want to add that had AJ wanted to do humanitarian work for PR purposes only she would focus all her efforts on working on projects in the US. As we have been told plenty of times, there’s a lot to do right her in the US so why doesn’t she do it? There are over 40% of Americans who are inadequately insured for medical and health insurance. Then there’s the handicapped kids, the katrina victims, the American Indians stuck on reservations, the orphans etc. If she were to throw the sort of energy into thos issues in the US, I’m sure she’ll get plenty of publicity. Plenty of benefit concerts to organise, plenty of photo opportunities to play in FRONT OF THE PAPS.What she has done is in fact the opposite. She has chosen to try and highlight those who are forgotten. Sierra Leone, Darfur (I mean, its not exactly in the news is it until the last couple of weeks), Bosnia, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Many of the places she visited were actually dangerous and NOT ONE OF THE PAPPARAZI WERE PRESENT. So, for someone who is supposedly a brilliant media manipulator, she’s chosen a lot of hard work with doubtful returns to focus her energies to generate good PR for herself. And do you know why the PAPS were not present in Sierra Leone and Darfur and other places?? FOR 2 REASONS:1) because NO ONE IS ACTUALLY THAT interested in reading about Darfur and Sierra Leone so, Paps don’t want to cover those stories so BANG, there goes the Photo Opportunity right?? and2) Because there is always the risk of being kidnapped, of being killed. I just read her book/journal: Notes from My Travels and it says right on the copyright page that all proceeds go to the UN High Commision on Refugees. I seriously doubt she could get away with siphoning profits off and gosh, do you really think she needs the money from the book? You don’t get paid much profit on a book–could be as little as fifty cents of as high as two dollars. Why the heck would she siphon profits off to herself? Mz. Manners, #260–I suggest you read the book. You don’t "buy" a commision from the UN to put yourself in the situations she has been in. You don’t go to the places she has gone if you truly are doing what she does for publicity. You don’t hold an amputee in your arms or a baby with aids if you are only doing this with publicity in mind (especially since there are no pictures of you doing so). You don’t cry because you are listening to stories of horrific rapes, horrific killings of children, horrific stories of the inhumanity man is capable of. There are so many articles written on Brad and Angie where people have not done a lot of research but feel the need to write something about them now because it is the hip thing to do. If the media were on the case years ago as they are today, the American public would have been more aware of the Taliban and the training camps going on in Afghanistan. Just think, Angelina was there when Osama bin Laden was still there!!!! It might be partially that her and JA are tight and partially with everybody mentioning AJ and her dedication to her humanitarian causes has gotten her dander up. What is important for celebrities is whether their movies sell well.I also take the recent gallup poll as marvelous results for both Brad and Angelina.Gallup poll uses scientific method. The population size they use, however small it is, is still a fair representation of the 270 million Americans.Although the results for Angelina and Brad were not as good as Jennifer’s, I would view the results in the positive light. As I understand, a year ago, (in the beginning of this "love triangle"), there were reports that Team Aniston’s shirts were outselling Team Jolie’s shirt in the ratio of 25:1. If we take this as a barrometer of public opinion (although not very scientific) then Jennifer would have an approval rating of 96% and Angelina 4%.If we now take the results of the Gallup poll into consideration, (by taking the most pessimistic view) Jen has an approval rating of 59% while Angelina has 41%.
