When Babel, the latest offering from Alejandro González Iñárritu, premieres at the Cannes Film Festival this month, it will be a remarkable moment for Mexican cinema. Before 2000, when the director’s debut, Amores Perros, took Cannes by storm, Mexican films were rarely seen by international audiences. This year, one of Babel ’s main competitors for the Palme d’Or will be Pan’s Labyrinth, by González Iñárritu’s compatriot Guillermo del Toro. That two Mexican films are competing for the most prestigious prize in world cinema is a measure of how far the Mexican industry has come in the past six years.

Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s drama Babel, starring Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and Gael Garcia Bernal, is currently scheduled to show at Cannes on Tuesday, May 23 and open in limited release on Friday, October 6. What I said was they should have stayed where they were in Nice, France, then both of them could have gone together. This is a big deal for him and I am chomping at the bit for him to get every drop of praise for his acting (since it looks like he’s actually doin’ it, in this movie).
Tom Cruise shares a very familiar trait with Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. Both men are classic meglomaniacs who believe in their own importance and influence. There is a very arrogant ("confront" in Scientology jargon) and in-your-face boastfulness and histrionics that is borders on pathalogical. Mind control is essential. L. Ron Hubbard, though very intelligent, believed in his own hype and capitulated to his own self-created myth, and in doing so, created a money-power-influence directed dynasty. It’s all smoke and mirrors. Unfortunately, humanity can’t be so easily swayed as it had in the past. People are starting to question and discern, and can very easily see through all the hyped image. Even though, after all, that’s been the Hollywoods way of justifying these pseudo heroics. IMHO

At least in Africa, the paps are controlled and the family can enjoy their stay.

# 81 | Original jpf : ABSOLUTELY! Part of what is making Brad so sexy is the way he cares for his woman and his family. I would definitely think less of him IF he went to Cannes. Films come and go. FAMILY is what is important. I never liked TC, but, he really went down farther in my books when he left KH and baby right after the birth.Part of me wonders if we will see Brad and Angie at all at premieres. Together I mean. Do you believe that Angie dragged him to Namibia without giving him a choice? Don’t you think that if attending Cannes was a top priority for Brad, then they would be there? If it was a priority then they would have never left France. Brad does have a mind of his own and he often uses it. If Brad does not attend Cannes then HE chose not to. Its that simple.

I think it’s great that Angie and Brad decided to stay in Namibia and at the same time she can worked on her causes, bringing awareness to people about Genocides in Darfur and children’s education where Ann Curry along with the media traveled all the way to Africa to interview Angie. Angie is brilliant when it comes to her causes. The US media haven’t covered any news on these issues, why not bring them over to Africa? Don’t blame Angie with her beautiful, caring heart for the less fortune. And yes, i definitely think Brad is the one responsible for the lockdown on news and pictures. I find that so sexy, that he wants to protect his family like that.The movie looks really good, and i’m happy that Brad gets to show a different side of his acting in the movie, atleast that’s what i can judge from the trailer.
