When Babel, the latest offering from Alejandro González Iñárritu, premieres at the Cannes Film Festival this month, it will be a remarkable moment for Mexican cinema. Before 2000, when the director’s debut, Amores Perros, took Cannes by storm, Mexican films were rarely seen by international audiences. This year, one of Babel ’s main competitors for the Palme d’Or will be Pan’s Labyrinth, by González Iñárritu’s compatriot Guillermo del Toro. That two Mexican films are competing for the most prestigious prize in world cinema is a measure of how far the Mexican industry has come in the past six years.

Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s drama Babel, starring Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and Gael Garcia Bernal, is currently scheduled to show at Cannes on Tuesday, May 23 and open in limited release on Friday, October 6. Welcome back African Girl! LOL on your # 98 post, as I too was real perplexed when I logged on to JJ’s and see JA’s thread first. All I could say is: "is this for real? Is there no stopping this woman from cramming into our throats with her mag covers?!?" It’s really gaggin’ me. I’ve never ever posted in a jen thread, but I was to ticked off, I just had to put one. Hey Passing ThroughHow have you been. Gosh, it’s good to…to see you again..? So, guess what I did….I used the "******" joke….lol. Unfortunately, my audience were a bit on the stiff upper lip side…..so they didn’t give the hysterical laughter worthy of the joke….they didn’t laugh at all. So there I was giggling by my lonesome while five people (my two sisters and my Cousin’s soon to be family) looked at me like I had lost my mind. I guess I should have stopped there but then, I tried to explain….to cut a long story short, our ride back to the hotel was kinda tense. Jeez, hanging out with straitlaced people is no fun.
on the news, they were talking about Matt Damon, he was in Africa for 6 days on an Aids Funding Charity tour or something….( I did not catch the beginning of the statements…but they did said that …something like " another actor jump on the Angelina Jolie’s Wagon for Africa…GC and now MD….another newsperson said" well…he would "get on" too ( what a smuck)…and " she( AJ) should get on the Hillary Clinton ticket in 2008…Vice President Jolie?…hmmm
