Aishwarya Rai Pictures

Also on offer from the Indian camp is Jagmohan Mundhra’s Aishwarya Rai starrer, Provoked (also co-stars Lost’s Naveen Andrews) based on the real-life story of a battered Indian woman who ended up killing her abusive husband in Britain a few years ago. Aishwarya, a Cannes regular by virtue of being one of the brand ambassadors of French cosmetics giant L’Oreal, has already registered her presence here. She sashayed up the red carpet in an off-the-shoulder gown, with Hollywood actress Andie MacDowell for company, on the opening night. She is scheduled to stay on for the special market screening festival of Provoked later in the festival.

Bollywood bombshell Aishwarya Rai, 32, is also set to star in two upcoming films in English — Singular (2006) alongside Brendan Fresar and Chaos (2007) alongside Meryl Streep. Pictured left to right :: Provoked photocall,  Paris, Je T’aime premiere, and Cannes opening ceremony dinner.  Many more pictures in the gallery!

# 39 | LeniYou really didn’t have to bring Angelina Jolie into your rant. You had already made your irrelevant point without going there. Let it go before you have a posse of BAMZ lovers on your ass. They fight dirty.

wow!! so many comments on aish’s page! not a fan …but i think she is very beautiful :)

Never seen her in any movie. Have no opinion of her personality or talent. Just think she’s so, so astonishingly beautiful.

"she brings honour and fame to your countrywho else has done that…in terms of the bollywood stars who dance and prance around the tress"LOL… I agree. And that dancin’ and prancin’ gets annoyin sometimes, but that’s what differentiates our movies from others. I don’t think the indian community is bashing her. Indians are like that. We criticize EVERYONE, ESPECIALLY our own community. It’s in our nature.Despite my criticisms of her, I think she is a classic beauty. You go ASH! And for the criticisms. Don’t worry. It’ll do her good. It’ll help her pinpoint her problems and become big in both the east and WEST! Atleast, they’re not rotten like they are to some other BIG STARS. Once she becomes a big star in America, I’m gonna go all out for her and support her all the way. I’M ROOTING FOR YOU, ASH!!

endah, "rasialist"? you mean racialist. LOL, what? how is he a racialist?

I never thought Salman Khan was all that. Never. Ugh. Salman’s got bug eyes and a droopy nose. I know, I’m being "racialist". Nice body, though. But alot of Hindi actors have GORGEOUS bodies. AAAHHH! I just found this. LOLOL…oh no they didnt! This is too funny:http://www.funmaza.com/fun/pictures/salman1.jpg(crazy salman fanatics, don’t come after me now!)

mira- "But alot of Hindi actors have GORGEOUS bodies. "isn’t that the truth. and thank god for that.

umm lol!!

oooo nice one "and?" seriously keep the jealousy to yourself losers.

How did you turn this into a Angelina thread? Its about the women in the pictures. If you want to talk about Angelina, go to her thread!

Damn! This woman sure inspires hate in some people. She is pretty, but there is something off about her.

She is quite possibly the most stunning person I have ever seen! Supposedly, Angelina has said openly that she wants to get with her…hahha. And Julia Roberts called her the most beautiful woman in the world.I have to say that I cannot disagree. In a few movies my Indian friends gave me I saw that she is even more stunning on camera. Also this negativity does not surprise me because whenever someone is on their way people start to HATE– unfortunately because of their insecurities. People do that to Oprah to Angelina and now a beautiful rising star like Aishwarya. That just means you have arrived.

So someone mentioned Madz. I just have to say, that women is the most gorgeous and talented woman ever! She is an awesome dancer, talented actress, and that one- million dollar smile. A triple threat and a legend. I wish she would make comeback.OK, my pshyco rant is over.

She is beautiful, YES!But what I heard is she don’t have friend in Bollywood like they can’t stand her.

Hey! Don’t bring Angie in to this thread!Every women has her own beauty. After all, I don’t think Angie is the kind of person who care about " the most beautiful woman in the world " title!

Hey! Don’t bring Angie into this thread!Every women has her own beauty. After all, I don’t think Angie is the kind of person who care about "the most beautiful woman in the world" title

She is fake, and we all know that surgries can do magic to your face. She was a fat whale uptil some months ago and look at her now. She is shame to Indians.

"After all, I don’t think Angie is the kind of person who care about "the most beautiful woman in the world" title"i wish i could say the same about ash.

I’ve only seen Ash in "Bride and Prejudice" and I thought she did a decent job. I, however, do not like Bollywood films. My first college roommate was Indian and she used to get me to watch some of the films, she was only allowed to watch Bollywood growing up so she was very naive about stuff that happened in the real world. They are too fake, have too much dancing, music, and are just plain corny. Also, they are forced to make movies without sex or violence. Who is Bollywood fooling? Obvioulsy there is a lot of violence in India and there must be alot of sex because they have the fastest growing HIV population in the world and over 1 billion people. I think the real problem is that instead of educating Indian people through movies and making diverse roles, Bollywood is more concerned with which actor or actress looks the best in front of the camera.

African Girl @ 05/20/2006 at 11:08 pm

For those who said Rani and Preity are the best actresses, I won’t dispute that but let’s not forget Kajol. I know since she got married, she not done much but please her resume speaks for itself, especially when she’s paired with KING KHAN! In my opinion, those to have the best chemistry. Ash is okay but she needs a good…I mean really good lead man. I guess I like her because she reminds me of Rekha….or is it just me? I hear she’s engaged Abishek, is that true? She’s older than him isn’t she…..not that there’s anything wrong with that. She did not use Salman….the stupid guy was abusive and very paranoid. Always following her to locations and all that. I used to like him…MPK…mu first movie of him but then something happened somewhere, he just lost it. Now I hear there’s a judgement against him for hunting some rare animal. Honestly what happened to him? I remember when the three Khans ruled Bollywood.

African Girl @ 05/20/2006 at 11:25 pm

NikkiBollywood movies are too fake? Oh really and American Movies are the best potrayal of reality…eh? Please, don’t start saying ignorant things like that. There are really good social movies out there and most people avoid it…do you know why? Because it’s just too really. A few years ago, I saw this movie where this 13 years old girl was a prostitute…..it wasn’t romanticized like pretty woman. It was as if they just had cameras follow a real prostitute. She came from this really poor part of india, her mom was not physically strong and she had youngeer siblings so this girl was the bread winner. So the fact that you don’t see these types of movies doesn’t mean they don’t exist. No violence? Are you kidding me…you do know that there are genres in Indian movies too. So maybe all you saw were the romantic movies….for a while all they did were Action movies with just a few romantic movies scattered here and there. Also the no sex issue, please it has worked for decades and is still working. Not everyone wants to see the actors and actresses jumping into the sack every two seconds besides I think that is the genuis of indian movies - How do you potray love without all the touchy touch kissy kissy stuff? And like I said, they’ve done it very well. The songs are beautiful….if you understand what they’re saying or what it emotes. I even buy the CDs so I can listen to it in my car. I guess foreign movies isn’t for everyone. In my opinion, the best social movie was Mother India. I wept buckets when I saw that.

Please stop trying to negate every negative comment about her. It’s not about being jealous. She is beautiful, but also very arrogant. And i’m not the only one who feels this way or otherwise there would not be so many bollywood forums and message boards repeating some of the negative comments about her attitude and how she is full of herself. Where there is smoke, there is fire. I don’t mind an Indian trying to promote the country around the world through their work, but I personally don’t think she is the best one. Try to look beyond her beauty and look at her medicore talent. She always somehow ends up being in the news for some controversy or the other (fans might say she doesn’t put herself there, yet her name always appears in some bad news). Below is a magazine interview she did. I’ll post the link for the whole thing, but read what the interviewer writes before posting the interview here.Aishwarya Rai Interview - Beautiful & UglyIndia’s biggest name and now a huge star in the west thanks to Bride and Prejudice, everyone loves Aishwarya Rai. Poorna Shetty found her a complete nightmare. Not convinced, we sent her for a second interview…but did she change her mind? Everything you’ve heard about Aishwarya Rai is true. She is the most beautiful woman in the world. There’s no one in Bollywood who can dance as well as her, captivate the audience with such a magical screen presence, or light up the surroundings with a more lustrous star quality. She is also a diva. A prima donna of the highest order. So full of herself it’s a wonder the woman needs to eat… Let it be known. This interviewer did not go to meet her, first in London then a week later in Barcelona, with the intention of disliking her. Like most Asian girls, I have enjoyed many of her movies, read a fair few of her interviews with interest and am proud of her recently heightened worldwide exposure thanks to the huge success of Bride and Prejudice. But then you meet the real woman hiding behind the image. It all started to go wrong during our photoshoot, which was scheduled to run for 45 minutes – a fraction of what any other self-respecting celebrity allows a magazine and miniscule compared to the time she allowed for mainstream publications such as Esquire and Hello! Fair enough, the lady is busy and we’re not arrogant enough to assume we’re in any way in the same league as those magazines. She cut it down to precisely 9.2 minutes, half of which was taken up by her huffing and puffing and shooing away our stylists, even though they had spent days acquiring the Armani outfits and accessories she had specifically asked for. Which would have been bearable had we not overheard her telling her own stylist ‘oh, it’s just another Asian magazine…’ The press office later assured us she wasn’t referring to Asiana, but indeed, another Asian magazine. Well, that’s alright then. All the guys I’ve recounted my experience with Aishwarya Rai to suggested my negative view arises from jealousy (all the girls at the shoot, incidentally, left feeling either crestfallen or enraged by her belittling stance). Maybe I’m a chubby, average-looking girl who someone as beautiful and important doesn’t have room for in her life, but as a reporter, I’m representing thousands of similar girls who look up to her as a role model. Just because her mission is to make her mark on the mainstream doesn’t excuse dismissing her core audience, however small fry they may seem. Perhaps she’s so used to Indian reporters worshipping the ground beneath her feet that she’s convinced herself she can treat Asians with contempt and get away with it. It isn’t just her dismissive attitude either. She does all the things that drives normal girls crazy – flicking her hair in slow motion and following it through with a laughter that’s been rehearsed to melt male hearts, pretends she doesn’t really obsess about her looks when there’s a troop of stylists standing on guard right beside her 24/7, talks about being grounded while acting like she’s got her head stuck up her… cloud. And she doesn’t sit and talk as much as she poses and recites. And she speaks of herself in the third person for crying out loud! There’s no arguing it (unless you’re a man), Aishwarya Rai’s beauty is skin deep. She thinks, nay believes, she’s better than us mere mortals. But credit where credit is due. The woman knows how to hide her real self by giving quotes that reveal nothing but sounds like she’s all heart. It would be mean-spirited of us to twist her quotes to justify our dissatisfaction of her behaviour. Bending the truth to suit our needs isn’t a road we want to go down. We’ll leave all the fakeness and distortions of self to she who plays it so beautifully… Link for rest of article: http://www.asianamag.com/magazine.asp?section=1&aID=13
