OlderKirsten Dunst Booed!!!!!
Marie-Antoinette, one of the early favourites for the Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival, was booed at the end of the first press screening on Wednesday. The period drama stars Kirsten Dunst and was directed by Sofia Coppola, who made the award-winning Lost in Translation. Coppola looked taken aback after being told of the early reaction and said it was "disappointing". She said: "It is better to get a reaction that people really like it or don’t like it, than no response. "Hopefully some people will enjoy it - it is not for everybody."
Why am I not surprised???? I’d boo and I haven’t even seen the movie yet. BOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Kirsten Dunst was also quoted said, "Sofia doesn’t make me into somebody who I am not. A lot of directors affect you in a way, into what they see you as. Sofia sees me honestly. I wasn’t making a political movie about the French revolution I was making a portrait of Marie-Antoinette and my opinions are in the film. Not really a KD fan, however I do adore Sofia. She needs to make more movies. Also, Cannes reviewers seem to be a wee bit moronic, IMO.

im not a huge fan of kirsten dunst but i have to say that i find this girl so sweet ! i like her movies especially "marie antoinette" she was so gorgeous ! and i don’t undrestand why some people are hard with her it’s probably jealousy ….
JustJared i am so dissapointed in your post about this!How on earth can you boo a movie you havent seen!Just because you dont like the actress!What the **** is up with that!I thought you are cooler than that!Well guess not!I dont like Kirsten either but i will go and see this movie!It sounds great and we all know those French critics are a hard crowd to please and that they love to tear the American movies up!And since when does that mean its actually bad!Critics dont get it right always!I suggest that you go and first see the movie and then actually crtitsaze it.It gives you credibility!Your post shows beautifully how far have the gossip/tabloid charatherizations of actors come!That you accuse the whole movie on the fact that you dont like the actress!I dont like her either but i think that she knows her job and does it good!So i will give her a chance and Sofia who is a true talent.I love your blog but please dont immulate MK it dosent suit you!And could you leave comments like that for movies like Scary movie,American Pie.etc!
I don’t know why everybody keeps pickin on Kirsten, but I DON’T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT! Her body is white! And TALK about RIBS! Ew! (in regards to the previous bikini photos). I THINK SHE’S A DRUNK. I think she has a drinking problem.
Her teeth are weird. It’s a little scary. I mean, you would think by the time you’re an adult, those weird looking teeth would look normal by then. How OLD is she anyhow?

The movie came out today in France, I saw it, and despite some flaws its a beautiful movie, a bit strange and very Sofia Coppola, but at least, it has its originality. Critics who boo-ed it just make something even more obvious: we cant trust the critics in Cannes anymore, this is bullshit, a big obnoxious reunion for the cinema intelligenzia… Boo to them :)
When did Jason Schwartzman turn semi-cute? I might just go see this movie…afterall, he did make Shopgirl watchable.

To Sarah: Actually Sofia Coppola has a very very good reputation in France, and most of the french critics really liked LIT and VS. So their reactions are quite surprising.Anyway, I’m a huge fan of her work and I’ll probably see the movie in a couple of days, I can’t wait to see it.
Not a fan of Sophia nor Kirsten but wtf, surely that middle pic in the 4th row is doctored, she has ugly teeth but thats hideous, they’re freaking grey!

They said on E! that although the movie did apparently get booed at one screening, the next day it received a 10 min standing ovation when it was done. So who knows.Also, come on, Kirsten looks beautiful here.
Don’t think Kiki Dunst is very pretty but she’s an okay actress. Not my favourite by any stretch. But I suppose one of the main reasons I can’t stand her is that she reminds me of my partner’s former best friend who was very clingy and and made it very hard for us initially. I know, its petty but I can’t help it.
Kiki gave me fleas.
i think her teeth are aeful. she actually once said that she was proud of the fact that she refused to fix her teeth, unlike other celebs. i think she ought to regret it now. i’m sure it woulda’ve been a good movie if she wasn’t in it. kudos for trying her hand at serious acting anyway.
