Given Vince Vaughn’s recent success with landing punch lines, there was considerable hope that if anybody could inject a little zip into the stagnating romcom, he’d be the guy to pull it off.
And he still might — one of these days.
In the meantime, there’s "The Break-Up," a major disappointment of an anti-romantic comedy for which Vaughn shares producer and story credits in addition to sharing the screen with real-life squeeze Jennifer Aniston.
Bottom Line: Don’t Believe The Hype
That’s one big OUCH from The Hollywood Reporter! BURNED. Will fans flock to theaters for The Break-Up anyway for the former Friends star? I think Aniston is too greedy, she seem to sign every offer given to her as long as its paying good. SJP seem to be making better than Aniston, Failure to launch and Family stone do well in the box office. SJP just knew how to pick her movie and not signing every offer given to her.

What rottentomatoes evaluated was the domestic take and did not include the international take. To break-even, a movie has to gross twice the costs. Clearly, based from the global box office receipts, Troy recovered its costs and even profited. Remember the 497 million gross does not include DVD/VHS rentals and sales worldwide. Thus, TROY is a profitable movie venture.
I think Pitt got involved with her too soon after his break-up with Paltrow. He admitted in 2001 Vaniety Fair he was a mess and thought about admitting himself to a hospital but went into therapy for a year and a half instead. I think that break up messed with his mind and decision making. He was fixed up w/Aniston and they slept together on their first date and started living together immediatly. It’s a classic case of someone being really lonely and vunerable who gets involved right away when they really shouldn’t. The relationship probably last 2 to 3 years longer then it should of. So unlike the Paltrow break up which was sudden and out of left field for him this marriage was a build up and he was ready to move on. Aniston clearly hasn’t recovered from it and is just now addressing her own responsibility in her marriage ending. She said in Harper’s that she discovered a lot of things about herself and they were bad. She created a **** firestorm last summer with her VF article, he’s kept his mouth shut and moved on with his life and she just kept talking and talking. Chicken’s come to roost for her and she has no one to blame but herself because she turned the public off.

Well, #83 Pitt did say those things in Vaniety Fair. I don’t think anyone said he didn’t love Aniston but he did hem and haw about finally marrying her. Brad Pitt didn’t need any television sit-com star as a g/f. He’s freak’n Brad Pitt he could have anyone he wanted. He was fixed up with her by their agents and they DID sleep together on their first date and then moved in together. They’ve both talked about it so that’s no new news. When you look at Pitt and Aniston you see how different they are in their approaches to life . She’s afraid of everything and is a ball of neurotic fumings. She’s all about getting into her own head and talking about herself adnauseum. He said it himself he realized that he was looking for interesting characters to play instead of living an interesting life. He didn’t want to be someone who sat on the couch. Why is the headline of this thread "Break Up Bombs"? It has to be shown yet but people are already judging it. There is one more week of promotion from both Brad and Jen — who knows, despite bad critical reviews TBU just might make money if only because people wanted to see the chemistry between VV and JA. Let’s all give JA a chance — she already lost Brad, she’s almost 40, not much of a film career to speak of — I think she needs a break. She is not an evil person, Brad did love and marry her once upon a time. She has made her mistakes (putting career before family) but hey, everyone has made them so I think we should be magnanimous and generous towards Jen. She looks good in these pictures.

It seems to be the trend to bash Jen at the moment - I am sure that even if she starred in the most critically lauded film of our time there would be people willing to slate her. I don’t understand all this hatred for her;she hasnt done anything wrong, and yet she is getting absolutely atrocious comments on here. She got divorced, big deal, so do tonnes of people every day. She didnt murder anyone, get caught ODying on the pavement outside a club, and yet you all act as if she is Pol Pot or someone. The last time I checked, it was a free world and woman could choose to do what they liked with their bodies and their lives. I was not put on this earth to further overpopulate the planet, and I commend JA for not having a child just to keep her marriage together - if Brad really was that superficial, then good riddance to him, he obviously regarded the prospect of a child as more important than a stable, loving mariage and a good wife. I am glad she was sensible and didnt have a child to paper over the cracks - it is better to be single and childless then divorced and having to look after a child by yourself, even with all the money in the world. Rebecca, people are slagging off Aniston because of the things she’s said and done. She’s lied a LOT about a lot of things over the past year and half. From the real reason behind her divorce, to her involvement in Plan B to her contact with Pitt and her relationship with Vaughn. It goes on and on. All the while acting like a victim, claiming she didn’t want to be portrayed as a victim but making snide comments against Brad and his new family in interviews. People are just calling her on her B/S because they’re sick of it and can see through it. It has nothing to do with having children. It’s obvious she doesn’t want them and she should just admit it. And she has produced six others that will come out this year, and is in three more to come this year. She is not a novice. As for what Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie did in their first film roles, I don’t know what they have to do with her, but in only her 8th appearance onscreen, not even leading roles, Angelina won a Golden Globe for playing a real life politician’s wife, followed it up with another one for Gia the next year, and then was in commercial hits in a variety of roles, from romantic comedy to thriller, and two years later another Golden Globe and Oscar for Girl Interrupted. From first film roles that went nowhere to Oscar was five years. JA’s been at it for 13 years, making a movie or two a year all while doing Friends.Brad’s first film role was Thelma and Louise. Enough said.
