Break-Up Box Office Sales
"Unconventional romantic comedy" The Break-Up debuted at No. 1 this weekend with $38.1 million toppling over X-Men: The Last Stand, which slipped to second place with $34.35 million. Not surprising since X3 was a load of donkey doo!!!! An editor from People said, "It’s hard to transfrom from small screen stardom to the big screen but [Jennifer Aniston] is a really, really good actress. There’s no question she’s got the chops." Looks like Aniston is here to stay! Pictures include Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn at Shutters at the Beach for The Break-Up Press Conference in Santa Monica, California.

It saw TBU and it was bad. While it doesn’t deserve to be #1, I’m glad that VV wasn’t derailed by this **** of a movie. All in all, it still wasn’t as bad as Bewitched.
I hope and pray X and her fans are finally happy and get round to leaving the Jolie-Pitts in peace at last!

TBU was a very bad movie. It’s only #1 b/c nothing else new opened this weekend. Most people already saw X3 over the holiday weekend.JA needs to start being selective with her films and stop making everything they give her. VV has played variations of the same character in about 5 movies. Both of them are really lame at this point.
I’m not sure about the Aniston’s here to stay. Just like Bruce Almighty and Along Came Polly, she got lucky by co-starring in a comedy with a huge male movie star. Jennifer’s character could’ve been played by any other actress but replace Vince with someone else like say Josh Lucas or Dermot Mulroney, it wouldn’t have done as well. Jennifer still can’t open a movie by herself if her life depended on it. She’s nearing 40, she won’t be able to play the cute girlfriend in romantic comedies for long. I’m only happy for Vince but dear lord, the movie sucked. Not funny at all. Just painful.

Janeane Garofalo should have played that character instead of JA. yeah it does seem like VV is a schemer, why don’t JA and VV say yeah to the media yup, we are f**kbuddies. With better movies soon to open this summer I rather see Lake House with Sandra Bullock and Keenue Reeves and The Devil wears Prada with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.
I am so glad this movie has done better for Aniston now I pray that it will help her to stop obsessing about her ex-husband and focus on a brighter future with Vince V. who seems to be more her type they seem to have the same goals.

I checked this film out, only because of VV. The movie was so-so on the verge of being bad. VV can do a lot better. JA was dispensable. But she did hold her on with what she had. I’m not trying to be a smart a** but it was yet another Rachel role. Whatevs…

There are quite a few movies out next week. The Break Up needed these numbers, because next week it may fall to #3. The drop might be in the 60% range.The final domestic boxoffice, apprx 95mil - 110mil. Boxofficemojo says production budget was 52mil, I don’t know if that includes marketing. With that being said this movie maybe in the moderate hit range.

This was an excellent movie and I am actually going to see it again before it leaves the theatres. The audience laughed out loud at the funny parts. I think many of the people saying it was bad haven’t seen it or their hatred for Jennifer is so strong that they can’t see past it. IMO

You are right April # 27, they needed to get thoe numbers this week, coz after people get the word of mouth taht movie is not good, then few will watch it afterwards, noticed that it already slipped to number on sunday after xmen. Im sure with Omen and CArs opening this weekend, and other movies the week after, im not sure whethet they can top US$ 80m in total, and VV and JA are not that popular in the foreign market.

LOVED THIS MOVIE!! It’s comedy and drama. Jennifer was sooooo good in her crying scene! Ebert and Roeper said that her performance was good and that she is talented as well. Vince is awesome too. I saw the B/Up (with a date). And we both "get" what the reviewer who wrote the following meant:"The Break-Up" and "High Fidelity" are the only two romantic comedies of the past 10 or so years that "get it." And by "it," I mean they actually have a higher romantic I.Q. than your average lovesick third grader fumbling through the pathetic prose on his Power Ranger valentine."Great date movie. Glad I saw it.

Fans of Vince Vaughn’s rapid-fire comic delivery might find a few laughs in the very early going of this so-called "anti-romantic comedy." But after sitting all the way through The Break-Up, fans of Vaughn and co-star Jennifer Aniston might be harder to find. This unlikable film does neither many favors.Vaughn bludgeons what remains of the charm from his aging frat-boy act by forcing us to imagine what it might be like to actually live with him 20 years, 25 pounds and zero maturity after college graduation. He so clearly doesn’t deserve to be in any kind of relationship with Anniston’s pleasant (if vacant) character that she loses likeability points for not seeing through his shtick in the first place.It’s not that their arguments don’t ring true. Anyone who’s ever been in a relationship will recognize the familiar accusations, counterattacks, hurtful comments, attempts to get even, and resulting regret. In fact, that’s the problem. The spatting in The Break-Up settles for re-creating pedestrian domestic squabbling instead of making it outrageous enough to laugh at or making it revealing enough to move us. All we’re left with is sitting on the sidelines with the couple’s friends thinking, "These people need to grow up already."And to be fair, the film does suggest that the breakup forces both to take stock of themselves and change for the better. For me, it also exposes the flaw in the relationship philosophy that suggests it’s wiser to live together before getting married. Some might surmise that the story of The Break-Up confirms the need to avoid the marriage commitment until you see how things will go in a condo. As rational as that sounds, the point is missed. The commitment and self-sacrifice of marriage is designed to hold two selfish people together as they learn to be less selfish people. It’s not, of course, that married people don’t go through seasons of fighting like the couple in this film; it’s that the deep commitment of biblical marriage forces them back to self-sacrifice, forgiveness and finding new ways to reconnect. We’re meant to to grow together through the storms of growing up instead of growing up through the storms of repeated failed relationships. Marriage is always hard work. Living together first doesn’t make it easier. It just makes it easier to get out.Come to think of it, though, getting out isn’t a bad idea if you find yourself in the vicinity of The Break-Up. Why commit yourself to 90 coarse (and slow) minutes of watching this couple’s relationship grind to a painful stop?

Jen traded up and from those papz pics from Wrigley last week, looks like Vince is happy she did. Both Vince and Jennifer look happy in these photos too. i thought VV & JA’s acting was impressive in TBU. both actors showed they could stretch themselves and do the sarcastic comedic timing as well as deeply emotional stuff. some of the scenes were powerful. but the story was AWFUL!!! not sure if VV co-wrote it or not, but whoever did should not write another screenplay EVER!

This was a film for people who haven’t grown up, so I am sure the young and immature audiences LOVED it. Tabloid readers finally found a real TABLOID MOVIE!! Woo Hoo.
Ohmigosh. That’s pretty funny. I saw both and I would see the break up again. Seeing Mr. and Mrs. Smith was just curiosity on my part, which seemed to be the reason for most of the audience. Everybody I know personally who saw it basically agrees that MRand MS was mostly drivel.

Okay , I am a VV fan and I went to see the movie as did most of the people at the movie theathre because of him and no the chin. that being said, which one of you who thought it was such a GREAT movie wants to give me my money back. The movie sucked.

Oh man…I’m watching Roepert & Ebert ‘At the Movies’ right now — and man o man…Ebert SLAMMED it but good. Ouchy wawa…the other dude, gave it a sideways thumb, and Ebert like jams his thumb down. LMAO. The clips they showed on the program were soooooo very awful…one thing that stuck out - if Brad was living with that ***** (in the film - and she SURE came across that way — pursed lips, nasty looks), then he must be in PURE HEAVEN w/ his sweet Angelina. I think if one is a real Vince Vaughn fan & seen most of his movies for sure will agree that this movie cannot be compared to his previous movies. This is no Wedding Crashers. My husband and I saw The Break Up over the week-end and we’ll recommend it to our friends and co-workers. Good blend of comedy/drama.
Jen fans should be happy . She has a great boyfriend. She has a hit movie. She says her life is great. This is the last movie that she or the media can connet to Brad. So there should be no reason for Jen to hint about her hurt feeling , what happened to her etc. All the things she said that is about Brad without saying Brad’s name. The funny thing is Brad Pitt had a rep for tanning, and especially for getting highlights, long before he started dating Aniston, so nobody can blame her for his behavior. Brad has always been into his looks way more than most any other actor around. For example: plenty of actresses, and brad pitt, have been photographed leaving the hollywood botox shop. And who can forget Val Kilmer telling an interviewer that BP asked to have his muscles airbrushed in a photo. And does anybody really think he’s going to let himself go now that Jolie’s tats are drooping? I think not.

Having been a godmother I can say that no, I am not a babysitter. Godmother’s play a far more important role in a child’s life. I watched the break up with my boyfriend last friday. i told my bf already before we saw it if he was ready to get bored, and that it might suck because of what the reviews have said, but we decided to watch it anyway just out of curiousity, just the same reason why we watched mr&mrs.smith. we were supposed to see the 8:35 show but when we got there at 8 it was sold out, so we had to get the 9:35 show. we came back at 9pm expecting not too many people in the theatre but damn…it was full, we had to sit real close to the screen which i hate. well the movie was pretty good. people were laughing at the jokes, and esp. the men seem to enjoy it. i was even annoyed at the guy next to me because trust me he did not stop laughing it got annoying. the end part was kinda sad but i loved that it is not ur typical romantic comedy where everything has a happy ending. some people in the theatre did not get up to leave right away thinking there would be an end scene after the credits. it liked the movie and my i think my bf enjoyed it more than i did surprisingly. vince is funny, and i thought jen really did a good job,she surprised me. overall good movie and 2 days after the movie, me and my bf find ourselves mentioning or talking about a scene from the movie which we could relate to. i enjoyed this movie more than i did mr&mrs smith.

Along with that polished look, she exudes coolness and self-possession even when the part calls for warmth or vulnerability. She did warm and vulnerable winningly in the cult movie "Office Space" (1999). But lately all her characters uncomfortably resemble the one who made her rich and famous, the feather-brained Rachel on "Friends," who thought being pretty was her full-time job. It’s as if she has substituted a movie-star pose for acting. Carrying an off-screen persona into movies often works, of course. It does for Mr. Vaughn, whose regular-guy routine, the working-class demeanor and untoned bod, suits his "Break-Up" role. But even if we assume that the characters’ romance was an upscale-downscale attraction of opposites, Ms. Aniston’s gleaming self-assurance in the film is intrusive. After the breakup and a supposedly excruciating night, she arrives at the art gallery where she works and is told by her style-conscious boss (Judy Davis) to go home because she looks terrible. Except she doesn’t look anything like terrible; she just has her hair pulled back in a very chic ponytail. And in the long run, all that coyness about her possible relationship with Mr. Vaughn may turn out to be a misbegotten strategy, echoing the coolness and emotional reserve of her characters. Remarkably, the press has swooned for this stunt, recasting the cad and the femme fatale as humanitarians instead of two people who brought along their Los Angeles obstetrician and who knows how many other loyal retainers to Africa to stage-manage their baby’s birth. No actor who made $18.5 million last year, as Ms. Aniston reportedly did, can be called a failure. But her biggest box-office success, "Bruce Almighty," the movie that gives Jim Carrey God-like powers, wasn’t really her film; "The Break-Up" belongs to the two-headed Vaughn-Aniston box-office anomaly. "The Good Girl" was hers. As an unhappily married woman who works at a discount store and is attracted to a younger man, she did more than pull her hair back; she disappeared into the role and made that woman understandable, believable and moving. We were traveling this week-end and didn’t get a chance to see The Break Up but as a fan of many of the cast members (including JA) we plan to see it in a few days. My guy’s BF told him it’s not a chick flick and said he needed to see it because he might recognize himself. He was laughing a little but he described one scene where it really does sound just like him! :)
I think this is good for Jennifer now I hope she can stop making comments such as, I have to be strong I have no choice, I’ve had a tough couple of years, I do yoga to get through the pain, I try to be strong, I have my best friends by my side for support because they are so loyal, I have learned so much the last 3 years of my life. Our local reviewer gave this movie very high marks. I live in a metropolitan area with plenty of forms of entertainment to choose from and all the top movies were showing here. Seating was packed and everybody seemed to enjoy it. (You could tell from the upbeat comments overhead while exiting the theatre.) I’m a big fan of Jen Aniston and until this movie not quite sure about the VV connection. I like them together. The anti-Ken&Barbie.
TL - you are just putting words in Aniston’s mouth that she never said. She may have said she did yoga to stay centered but I probably have said something very similar myself about tai chi. I have never been married to Brad Pitt nor have I wanted to be. That yoga is paying of for Jen too from the looks of her body in this movie.She was s-m-o-k-i-n-g hot. Looked great for every costume change and her performance as Brooke was very sweet–funny and vulnerable and very credible.

I think the marketing of the film was poor since it was portrayed as a "romantic comedy". Vince’s script was intended to to GO AGAINST the typical soppy romantic comedy. I think this is why it had so many negative reviews. My husband and I went to see it and really enjoyed it. Will see it again in a few weeks. It is called the BREAK UP so obviously it is not a soppy love story. Very refreshing and very true to life.

I personally hope this movie does well so that maybe then the fans will all go their own separate ways. However it does here stateside, I doubt it will do well overseas. Neither actor has the clout or name recognition that is needed and the script etc. will not translate well into foreign languages. Just as most went to see it because of either Vince or Jen here this weekend; most in Europe and Asia will not because they don’t know who the hell they are. That is just a fact.

The real story here is Vince Vaughn in my opinion. Jennifer will always be Jennifer. But Vince is mulitalented and his star is rising. When you compare his promotional interviews with that of Jennifer, it’s like night and day. "Verbal gymnastics" is how the media call Vince’s way of talking LOL!!!. I managed to catch VV interviews and he’s got a snarky bent that I like. He comes across as likeable, witty, self depricating & interesting although tired (those circles under his eyes). In comparison to Jen’s press work, well she didn’t say much. Her pesonality didn’t come across. She was too laid back and let the interviewers to the talking. VV press worked in his favor. He was describing his next project playing Santa Claus’ blacksheep brother Joe Claus, and it was funny. He mentioned that Santa gets all the glory and Joe is pissed off and not going to take it anymore. Funny stuff I tell you!! I see that everyone is gloating about Jennifer and her success without acknowledging VV . Jennifer was no different in this film than her past 4.VV, contratulations…you’re becoming a power player in this industry.
I’m happy Jen got what she wanted–a hit movie and a new romance. Brad got what he wanted–a chance to do volunteer work in the third world, a great love and a beautiful family complete with kids. So everyone is happy, why can’t the BAMZS and JA fans be happy now?

My boyfriend and I went to see TBU last night. The theater was packed and people laughed at the funny scenes. I thought JA was good in her role. I’m not her fan and have never watched Friends before so I have no idea if she played the same character in Friends, but I thought she was really good in TBU. We’re Vince fans and I heard that he wrote the cript with her in mind so he did choose the right actress for this movie. Great, Angelina "changed" when she got Maddox. I still don’t think you go and rush to have a baby. You can’t have a family in a year. I think they defintely rushed into things. And I don’t think brad cares that they rsuhed into things. I think he wanted have his beautiful puffy lipped babies and that’s it. Come on, it is obvious that VV has taken a back seat to boost JA. More pics of her by far, more atta girls for sales, when VV was in it just as much as she was. There first week opening really didn’t even pay the cost of the movie. Cheering for 38 mil vs. the other summer openings in the first week is nothing. And it was 3rd in the " romantic comedy" not just "comedy" catagory. One of her other movies made what 32 mil the first week and stalled there. Time will tell. VV is clearly the person most went to see, he really does need to have a change of pace as his movies are like repeats in the sarcasm catagory and I like him, actually have nothing against JA really. But I have much respect for her passion able natural love with Brad.As for friends Aniston wasn’t good actress in “Friends” either. She was “natural”.
