Pitt Outbids DiCaprio
It was a battle between Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, and Pitt emerged the winner.
The production labels of the two stars — Pitt’s Plan B and DiCaprio’s Appian Way — were engaged in a competitive bidding war through their respective studios, Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, over an upcoming zombie horror book by Max Brooks titled "World War Z."
By Wednesday afternoon, the dust settled with Plan B/Paramount winning the movie rights.
In 2003, Brooks wrote "Zombie Survival Guide," which explained in great deadpan detail how to survive a supposedly impending zombie apocalypse. The book went on to become a surprise cult hit.
"World War Z" also tackles the zombie genre but is set 10 years after a great global zombie epidemic and is a serious oral history of the zombie future told from many perspectives around the world. Crown Publishing is putting the book out in the fall.
The galleys of the book went out around town late last week, but interest took awhile to ignite. By the time execs finally realized they had a potential "tentpole" franchise, the battle lines were drawn between Plan B and Appian Way.
The bidding went back and forth between the two into Tuesday night and carried over into Wednesday. Sources say the rights sold for six figures, with the deal going to seven figures if the film actually gets made.
Brooks was a writer on "Saturday Night Live" from 2001 to 2003 and did voice work on the "Justice League" cartoon series.
There are said to be no hard feelings between the companies, and DiCaprio is starring in "The Departed," the Martin Scorsese crime drama that Pitt and his Plan B are producing. [THR]

Seriously, if you act rude or inconsiderate, suddenly ^poof^ you ARE invisible to any and all the elders. LOL: Hard lessons when young, but very important to learn manners. Tough to say I can tell a lot of those who condemn Angie and Brad seem like a whining child looking for attention. To me they’re usually invisible.. that’s just how I was raised.# 454 | Zaiyana – That’s a great way of handling attention seeking children or attention seeking adults who acts like spoiled brats. That’s what most parents learn to do and employ when a child is throwing a tantrum. There’s nothing that would really make people pause and suddenly put their focus away from themselves when no one is taking notice of them….there’s nothing more painful than indifference….at least with hatred there’s a feeling involved….but its something else when one party is openly ignoring or is being indifferent to the other party, now that is more painful IMO…. # 592 | Blessy Hi there Blessy….hope you delurk more often….a lot of us here became a fan because of her humanitarian works and social activism…. :-)
When I watch MMS–Brad amd Amgie just seep sexiness and charisma and glamour from evey pore. When I see Aniston she looks like a greeter at Wal-Mart.
# 797 | HelleneYou remember that they were kissed in public …..——————There are a lot of HW couple caught kissing in public, and remembering your idol Chinnifer caught kissing in public with her new bf Vince. what’s wrong with it ? showing your affection in public is not a fuss now a day. I wonder where do you come from ? Saturn or Pluto.

Paparazzi Diary: Behind the Brangelina Front LinesPosted May 24th 2006 4:09PM by TMZ StaffFiled under: Paparazzi Photo, Baby Watch, Brad and AngelinaNearly two months after Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt arrived at Langstrand on the West Coast of Namibia, the mood has changed from welcoming excitement to tense anticipation, writes a paparazzi in Namibia in an exclusive diary written for TMZ. The diary follows in her own words: Heavy-handed security men equipped with binoculars and walkie talkies threaten, chase and intimidate anyone who come within sight of the couple’s Namibian coastal hideout. The thugs have been backed up by the Namibian police, who have created their own special task force to patrol the Lang Stand beach. Unwelcome foreign journalists have been flushed out of their homes or hotels and sent packing under immigration orders. This weekend, one veteran photog was thrown into jail while pursuing a shot, and three French photographers have been ordered to leave Namibia or face arrest. The government has even taken the extreme step of decreeing that foreign journalists who want to cover the story must have approval from Brangelina before they can enter the country. Angelina and Brad have tried to counter the thug publicity by releasing some of their own posed photos to the world, showing everyone what a lovely family vacation they were having in the desert. Angelina also conducted a walkabout in a small squatter township on the outskirts of Swakopmund, where she surrounded herself with dozens of underprivileged children while being interviewed by her own TV crew, on her own terms. But that pretty picture was countered by the Human Rights Organisation of Namibia, which slammed the aggressive manner security crews were using to protect their celebrity status. From day one, local security squads have fiercely protected the actress and Brad with ferocity. The Burning Shore resort has become a forbidden fortress surrounded by green shade netting. The perception in the world is that the couple are being swarmed by photographers. The reality is different. Much of the press is too scared to stick around.
Interview with Angelina Jolie .. FORBESOn her epiphany that lobbying was worth it:"As it came down to it, you could build a well, buy soap, spend time with refugees to hear them tell their stories, but it became clear there were decisions being made back home in Washington, and it became clear to me that I had to do something to influence these decisions, no matter how many stories I would be willing to listen to in the field." On chances she’d ever run for office:"It’s difficult, as much as I’d love to get more involved in different ways, I am able to work with everyone [as an actress], I’m able to do a lot from the position I stand on. Otherwise, I would have to take a side, and I don’t know I’d be very good. I don’t have the confidence … if that day comes, it would surprise me more than anyone."On her standing in Washington:"I am very aware in [Washington] I don’t have the education or background that is typical. I feel like a little punk kid dressed up in a suit. But I have traveled for about six years to several places around the world and have seen very shocking and disturbing things. Look, I’m just an actress in a silly profession."On Shiloh’s birth:"It’s different to say that you choose to bring a child into existence. I didn’t choose to bring my two adopted children to life. Strangely enough, I was concerned about [this difference], and I have been making a point recently to give my adopted children more attention. But I feel now I love them equally … and I am very lucky that I am not a single parent. I can’t imagine how difficult it is for mothers who have to go back to work so soon. "On working with Republicans: "Fortunately, my issues are not partisan issues. Certainly, you learn to work with anybody–I’ve worked with the most hard-core Republicans. Why? I can’t wait until there’s maybe a more flexible group in office."On the Washington-Hollywood connection: "I don’t know what is a harder [place to work]. In both cities, it’s strange bedfellows. I’ve never done the cocktail party in Hollywood, but I have in Washington. Maybe I care more about policy issues than a movie role."Source:http://www.forbes.com/2006/06/13/06celebrities_jolie_slide.html

#787 Moi Jade - you mentioned ell’s video can you please tell me where I can view the vid? Thanks!
I’m still playing catch up and a lot of great and insightful posts I’ve come across. What is most compelling though to me, and what is central to the ROOT of all this HATE towards BAMZS …….. is the argument of BRAD as a" cheater" and his victimized wife JA and the vixen mistress who has been dubbed home-wrecker. It is not because of BAMZS fans… but because this historical debate in the American culture of marriage and church and state, still is to this date a cultural war within American culture. One the tabloid/ magazine industry monopolized on for a profitable gain.# 298 | Moi JadeGreat Post MJ. You’ve nailed it on the head…..you’ve given me an inside look into what I always thought as rather a contradictory reaction of the outraged portion of American public towards a demise of a celebrity marriage. We have people crying foul and passed judgment in the name of “morality” because one side spilled her story and some took it as truth and gospel – i.e. w/o considering the fact that there are 3 sides to the story: Brad’s, Aniston and the truth. I think the first question should have been, what are the moral boundaries that America is suppose to live with? 1) Are we morally bound by what is taught by the Bible?2) If so, what does it take to be morally upright?3) Does Americans live by these moral standards that they set as a society? For me following the moral standard argument, to have the right to be “morally indignated” then you must be following religiously the moral standards that was set by your society. I’m sorry if I’m offending anyone here but its rather hypocritical for someone to say Brad & Angie (for the sake of argument) that they are immoral when those that points the accusing finger can’t probably explain to me what are the tenets of morality they are basing their judgment on? Does being morally right means, having sexual relations only with somebody within marriage? If so, then I would presume almost all of Americans will miserably fail. In modern society, even in a predominantly conservative society like the Philippines, pre-marital sex is very prevalent and its not just among the youth. How come we seldom hear or see the media talk into so much detail and labeling those a small portion of American society that still practice polygamy (if this society considers this as immoral)? Or practice incest so wealth remains within the family? How come we don’t hear stories about people calling for a boycott on Kingston’s or any of their businesses? Is it morally right for a man and woman to live together without benefit of marriage? Then how come, Oprah’s core audience is perceived to be the morally upright citizens of America? How come people nod their heads and clap their hands in glee when she gives advises about marriage and about relationships when if you based it on these standards she has no credibility at all to speak of such matters? This maybe presumptuous of me but I think pop culture has extended its influence and has become part of the psyche and influenced people’s value system. People have lost the ability to think differently and think for themselves. If you deviate from what is popular then you are alienated, branded as a freak or evil. To some, individuality is an alien concept. Hence its not such a great surprise that a lot of people bought tickets when Aniston and her team spun the sympathy bandwagon. Not because it might be right. It was mostly because it was popular at that time.
818 malayaITA …Great post. If only some would care to analyze the real situation behind the demise of the Pitt/ Aniston union, we would just be swooning for the BAMZS instead of giving these haters more lectures in humanity, charity, love, history(unwed movie couples), etc. Ahh!!Moral boundaries– Abed on the first date-Aniston with Pitt. ….What was the drink of the night? What potion, herb ? What a 7 yr. itch for Pitt.Glad he got rid of the flea!!!!

# 825 | CLINIQUA Nice words and thanks for posting. I of course agree with her, but I don’t watch THE VIEW, (hate it actually) and I can’t stand Rosie O’D. Liked her alright for a spell back when she first had her own show, but she started to become just as narrow-minded and preachy as the people SHE was calling narrow-minded and preachy.
