Angelina Jolie and CNN’s Anderson Cooper pose for a photo during the taping of an interview to air tomorrow, June 20, 2006 on CNN’s "Anderson Cooper 360." Angelina will give her first U.S. television interview since giving birth. She talks about baby Shiloh, Brad and her passion for refugee relief. Angelina tells Anderson, "Next, we’ll adopt… it’s going to be the balance of what would be the best for Mad and for Z right now." Angelina on being inspired by the people she helps in her role as UN Goodwill Ambassador "You think, ‘Jesus, the things these people go through,’ I owe it to all of them to get myself together and stop whining about being tired and get there and get focused because, God, it’s the least I can do with what they live with." One-on-one with Angelina Jolie
When Angelina Jolie came into the room, just four days after returning from Namibia, she was alone. No handlers, no entourage. True, elaborate precautions had been made to make sure no photographers followed her to the hotel where we met, but there she was, by herself, walking into the hotel suite, smiling, ready to talk.
There are a lot of ridiculous stories circling on the Internet, spread by alleged "insiders" who claim that CNN or its parent company Time Warner somehow paid for the chance to talk to Angelina. These anonymous "sources" claim that People Magazine and CNN had some kind of joint deal to secure rights to photos and the interview.
I have no idea what People Magazine did or did not pay for those photos of the Jolie-Pitt family. It’s been reported they paid as much as $4 million, which was donated to a variety of charities in Africa, but I have no way of knowing if that is true or not. What I do know is that CNN did not pay anything — directly or indirectly — to get Angelina Jolie to sit down for an interview.
So why did she do it? And why talk to me?
Both are valid questions. I’m sure there were plenty of news programs requesting interviews with Angelina Jolie. The truth is, mine wasn’t one of them. They called us. I was told that they were aware of my interest in Africa and knew that as a broadcast we have devoted a lot of time to reporting stories from the continent.
Tuesday is World Refugee Day. Angelina Jolie was interested in discussing the plight of refugees, so we sat down to talk about what she has seen and learned in refugee camps around the world. She had no movie to promote, no product she was pitching. In fact, I have no idea what her next movie is and we did not discuss any upcoming films. There were no ground rules. I was free to ask whatever I wanted.
A lot of celebrities have causes and show up to talk about them when cameras are around, but the truth is that Angelina Jolie knows what she is talking about when the subject is refugees. To use a cliche, she doesn’t just talk the talk, she walks the walk. She has traveled to some 20 countries over the years as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and she says she donates one-third of her income to charitable causes.
I’m not sure what I expected before I met her, but to say I was impressed would be an understatement. She is smart, funny, self-deprecating, and intensely passionate about her children and her work on behalf of refugees.
Tuesday night, you will hear Angelina Jolie talk about some of the experiences in refugee camps that have changed her life. Yes, you will also learn about Angelina’s family — Maddox and Zahara as well as Shiloh Nouvel — but the focus of the interview is the plight of refugees. During the two-hour program, we will take you to the frontlines of some of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
It’s going to be an interesting broadcast, and I hope you watch.

Why Angie say she love privacity and she talks in interview over her chirldren?Yes, I see good she talk over her children if she is promote a film, or if she talks over her charity job, but …. I don’t know, but this sound a publicity, bad publicity, for me.

Excuse me "maria" #10 — Angie’s interview is part of an all day focus CNN is doing on ‘World Refugee Day.’ She IS the Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) - and was honored this past year with a ‘Global Humanitarian’ award - get a clue, and read up a bit, before you accuse people of doing something solely for publicity. Word is the only strings were that she asked the questions about Brad, the baby or Namibia be kept at a minimum.In short - she’s doing HER JOB for the UN.One that means the world to her, as it’s how her children came into her and Brad’s life.Go rag on Maniston, who’s probably getting her hair bleached blonde and her nails done, instead of someone helping the less fortunate.

A lot of people tend to underestimate Brad and Angie and as one of their supporters I can only say that no matter what both of them have always conquered the obstacles. MAMS is a blockbuster hit worldwide despite the negative press last year., Mad,Z and Shiloh are all doing well and deeply loved by their parents as per Angie’s mom. She even said that Brad and Angie are very kind and caring parents who love and support each other in EVERY WAY. For both of them to keep on doing their humanitarian work is admirable because they are making a big difference in this world. Some people will try to always put them down but I believe strongly that their Brad and Angie’s love and goodness will triumph.

Frenchy, this interview is not about Brad or the kids - she discusses them in passing - as mentioned in my previous posts, there were no strings, only that Angie asked Anderson to keep questions about Brad, the baby and Namibia at a minimum. You have no need to worry about Brange - they know what’s appropriate and what to focus on, when and how. Angie is the UN Ambassador for the High Commission on Refugees - her name is almost synonymous with them now - this interview is for WORLD REFUGEE DAY on TUESDAY! Which CNN is FOCUSING ON.

Can I give you just one piece of advice? It seems that you guys are having fun responding to these haters. But they actually want you to respond. You’re doing them a favor by responding. Because what they’re trying to do is bring out the hate in you. That’s why they keep repeating this behavior, which is not unusual by the way and you can’t stop it. When you try to stop it, that just fuels them more and more. And sometimes they don’t even realize it. They want people to see how ‘bad’ Angelina is by provoking her fans. Once you give into it, they begin the game of nasty name calling of your ‘idol‘. And that brings out the ‘nasty’ in you. When they justify it by saying they have the freedom to do so, playing the victim game, and say “see, Angelina fans are just as EVIL as her! See, see! I proved my point!” - they also know that criticizing her just pushes your buttons even more. Because they know you don’t think it’s acceptable. So, they do it more and more - somewhat out of rebelliousness. And when you react more and more, things get out of hand. People then start hating on Angelina on other websites. Hence, defeating the purpose of dousing out the flame. Don’t get emotional about it. Cause that’s what they want. THAT’S why they do it. Because if you didn’t react, then they’d find no purpose in doing it and get bored. I think the best thing to do is just ignore it. Then they’ll get the hint. I hope Anderson prefaces his interview tomorrow with some additional things that will clear this crap up. I don’t think B&A are ‘adopting tomorrow for God’s sake…but that’s what all these news reports are saying due to what she said on 360. It’s just so frustrating how they pick up on a millisecond of an interview and ignore the rest about Darfur and Refugees, etc. Pretty sickening. Most of the people who want to interview or who want to watch are more interested in her personal life, even when she’s involved in something serious. Let’s hope because of that more people will tune in and get some lessons on the serious issues - Refugees.
I totally relate to Angie’s "fear" as I also had c-sections (two) and since you can’t see the baby immediately (they have to wake them up) the few sec or so until the baby cries seem like 10 years. For my first one I frantically asked, "What’s the APGAR!?" (a scoring system to assess a newborn). I learned about it in my Lamaze class so I neede to know LOL

I don’t think that the whole two hours will be spent talking to Angelina alone. They will also show some clips which would involve refugees and their issues. Remember, it was only planned for an hour spot but they decided to extend it to two. CNN is playing for ratings and they are trying to please Angelina who is passionate about her cause, as AC well knows.The others who did not have the luck to land her for an interview are left to scrounge for the juiciest morsels they could find and those are her personal revelations, of course. They’re not interested in the humanitarian aspects of the interview, only in the stuff they could put in their breaking news segment.Angelina can not completely ban AC from asking personal questions either. She knows that in order to get her message out there, some sacrifices will have to be made. She can only ask that they be reduced to a minimum. One thing you have to be impressed with though is that instead of going on one of the larger networks which may have a greater impact on American television, she chose a cable station that can be seen around the world. Much wider audience. Very smart on her part.

I also feel that marriage is not the end all be all… been there done that. I think Angie having had a couple of unsuccessful marriages, she probably feels a bit marriage-shy at the moment until her relationship with Brad proves to be one of eternal bliss. So, like her, why spoil a good thing until you are absolutely sure it is the real thing. I am not sure Brad feels that marriage is necessary to bind love. I think he married JA because it was probably her who needed it most… for peace of mind and security, which in hindsight was probably not the right thing for her.

Hey guys — I was just watching my MAMS Unrated Disc 2 again - and I noticed something interesting, and really cute…this must have been back when Brad & Ange were just getting to know each other — Ange was having problems with the line ’still alive baby,’ at the time, it was phrased differently, and they wanted her to say it *after* she heard him moving which she didn’t get or something (she got her way — and ended up saying it before - heh..GO ANGIE! lol It makes more sense…anyhoo..) — while she’s trying to figure it out, and they’re trying to explain their version, Brad is patiently waiting, he has to crouch behind the big holes in the wall….I was looking REALLY close to him to find out if he was ever getting annoyed/impatient w/ her — and he never betrayed that he was. I think he was tired of standing around, but anyhoo what was cute…was that Angie has this little stuffed squirrled that she was playing around- keeping her hands busy, while she was discussing and making her point…and finally they go to take their places and she walks by Brad on her way up those steps, Brad at this point does seem to be a bit, like he’s thinking, ‘okay come on ange,’ but still he’s not really looking po’d or anything - he’s squatting by the wall just waiting….but when she walks by, he’s not really looking up at her — and I think Angie may have been worried that he was perterbed, and she takes the squirrel and like kisses him with it or brushes his face with it….and the camera zooms in on him (and I also used my ZOOM, lol) and he like, can’t help but smile.It’s so interesting to see these kinds of little interactions. It was like, Angie was saying, ’sorry babe, thanks for indulging me.’ …and if it seems like I’m going over the Unrated DVD with a fine tooth comb it’s because I am. LOL

She is very funny and self -depreciating and humbe. She knows her facts and doesn’t hesitate to use them. Forget about her beauty, forget about her being an actress, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but for the the moment forget about Brad. What Angelina does as a mother and as true humanatarian is inspiring. In the video, you can see this woman is aware of how she is percieved and takes it in good humor. She knows she isn’t the most well informed person on the planet and doesn’t have the college smarts that one might think a person needs to possess for undertaking the task she takes in her life, yet she is out there learning and doing her best. For the people who criticize her and say she isn’t the only one doing such things and that field workers do this everyday, you’re right and if you would see this video Angelina acknowledges that. Whatever light you want to cast Angelina in, please atleast never question this woman’s work and what she does for those who need it the most. You can think of her as a sinner or a saint or as I do, a human, but don’t underestimate or undermine what she does as a UN ambassador. You can focus on what she wears and who she chooses to spend her life with or you can focus on what she has done for some of the most deprived people in the world and how many lives she has affected. I cannot and will not judge what she does in her personal life because I don’t want the same treatment. I would hate for someone to judge me from what they read about me and of the pictures of me. I would hate to know that before someone has met me, they already think the worst of me. From what I have gathered, all the tabliods say something very different from what people say of her once they have walked away after meeting her. Not one person that she has known or has personally talked to her has come out to say something negative about her. Never mind. I won’t go there. Like I said, believe what you want about her personal life or choices but to question her dedication and compassion for the humantarian work she does as "manipulation" would truly be sad.

If she is supposedly using her image for "publicity" then so be it. She is using that image and her popularity to bring up a really important issue. Good Morning All,Honestly, I done trying to defend AJ to these people. I mean considering what today is and the many people who have suffered and are still sufferring, I’m just too bummed out to be arguing with people who don’t think she’s beautiful or think she "stole" BP from JA or that she’s a freak. Lucky because it could have been me, you…anybody, it’s just luck of the draw that WE are here today and we should be grateful. Saw a segment called "The Lost Boys of Sudan" and I thought "Wow, that could have been my brothers" then I tried to imagine IF it were my brothers and to be quite honest, I doubt they would have survived but then I thought may be I was being hasty with my conclusions. People deal with the life that’s been handed to them. I guess the point sometimes we get Complacent with our own lives, we forget that other don’t have the luxury.Earlier in an interview, a question was asked to the head of the refugee emergency relief program and that question has been ringing in my head, they said "Why do things have to get to a CRISIS point before the leaders of the world realize it’s time to help?" I am still wondering why, I mean if we get to it very quickly, we won’t have so many displaced people. Maybe I’m being naive in thinking that it is that simple but compared to leaving things until later, I believe it IS that simple, A stich in time saves nine is what I believe. One thing that resonated throught out the morning was the IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION. I am so looking forward to the interview as well, I told my boyfriend that he is having leftovers tonight for dinner, cause when I leave work and go home by time will be spent in front of tv watching CNN. Everybody is talking about the interview too. Work is not that busy right now, which is good, cause the past few weeks were crazy
Oh, I just wanted to add. For those who think that the humanitarian cause that AJ is doing is simply an easy task and just for image building, may I remind you that it is also quite dangerous physically and very taxing on one’s spirits. You can be killed not just by contacting some disease but by people who are hell bent on exterminating the poor victims but all those who are trying to help them. Do some research and you’ll find out how many aid workers have been kidnapped, shot or worse. Angelina could have picked a safer cause like save the spotted owls or a more glamorous one like beautification of the historic whatever but she did not. She chose one of the most heartwrenching and difficult cause instead. (Or maybe it chose her.) Think about that, you who still believe that she isn’t serious with what she is doing.

I agree we are definitely lucky to have such a life in this realm compare to them, to have the luxuries such as computers, cars, tv, food, etc that most of us waste when in reality the refugees are in dire need of basic needs to just surpass a day/night. I totally feel guilty now when I complain about my shallow issues i.e. traffic, gas when others are dying of starvation, diseases, etc. I praised AJ and others for covering these issues. I saw that cnn poll: Do celebrities raise your awareness about issues you might not normally focus on? I voted yes and was appalled that a lot of people voted no. Well in my case, AJ has helped me opened my eyes to these issues. I recall a year ago and the preceeding years before that,I tell you I wasn’t aware of these, never knew there is this World Refugee day….I guess I was just another jane doe that only cared about WHAT I WANT, but what these celebrities (AJ, GC, BP, etc.) have done is truly inspiring that I finally opened my visuals. Ok it seems like everything i say is repetitive forgive me..i’m just typing/thinkin at the same time, not even editing what i write. It is truly depressing that others–non fans, haters for the heck of it, one street minds, are not fully grasping the need to help the ones abroad. Also add to the list–those moralists for judging an amazing, awe-inspiring woman, Angelina Jolie, for they only see her pasts and the things that were wrong according to their shallow minds. I don’t know i just wish they would stop for a minute and think, think that she’s doing something amazing in here, at least making a difference in this hypocrite society.

This truly touched me. People in the above posts should feel ashamed of themselves.. You have smal children laying in makeshift hospitals cause they are so malnourished without anyone to comfort them. While our children here have everything the could desire. I wish there was more celebrities doing what anderson and angelinado with their income. Their right they do make a ridiculous amount, this is not only a great tax break but something purposefull other then saving art galleries saving whales. It breaks my heart to see these children as I am a mother also I could not imagine what these children have to grow up with to detach theirselves to get ready to die with out any one there. There has to be so much love that has to be withheld. Imagine yourselve as a small child being hurt your mother runs up and takes care of you there your must likely handed over to someone that noone knows and the mother hopes you make it. We have many things to be grateful for. family who comforts us, finiacial, FOOD that grows medical care even if it is ridiculously priced transportation communication housing clothing entertainment. They do with out all of this.
You know, I just cant belive how sucked in you all are by her. If any of you are intelligent enough you may realsie she actually just waffels her way through the whole interview. She actually doesnt really get across any major points. Just how the trip affected her and how much she respected the people she saw and met and how it made her change her life and become aware. i guess in waffelling on about it all the time she does create an awarenesss, but thats about all, oh and before ye all go mad, i knwo she donates money.!SHE TELLS US ALL THE TIME!!. but really she’s just a bluffer, and because she’s a movie star, and a good actress who can act all sincere and humble you all anoint her with sainthood. She would have been prepped for that interview, in as much as you could prep her, as all i saw her say was, " , you know". Anderson Cooper lead her in most of the question and she just agreed!!! It really annoys me that this person uses these situations for her own public image improvement!!! Sorry, doesnt work on me!!

We are not "sucked in" by AJ. She does walk the walk long before she met BP. She was only 20 something, an age when others spend their time going from beautician to hairdresser to yoga and pilates, to restaurant, to nightclub, etc., when she started to visit poor areas of the world, and she pays for her own travel and donates a lot of her own money, and she has also adopted/given a home to two suffering children. Yes, she tells us that, just like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett tell us that they spend big on charity. What’s wrong with that? Angelina is no saint, just a very good person. You can disagree if you like, but you would be wrong.
