On behalf Global Green USA’s board of directors and competition jury chair Brad Pitt, welcome to the Sustainable Design Competition for New Orleans – Advancing the Green Rebuilding of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast!
This competition combines Global Green USA’s commitment to green affordable housing, sustainable cities, and climate solutions that work for communities, with Brad Pitt’s passion for intelligent architecture. The competition is a central component of Global Green USA’s sustainable rebuilding initiative for New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, which began 10 days after the landfall of Hurricane Katrina. The idea for the competition developed from a conversation between Brad Pitt and myself at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in New York City in September 2005.
This design competition is truly an opportunity to give back to New Orleans, the birthplace of great culture, music, food, and architecture. It is our goal that green design, clean energy and healthy building be central to the rebuilding of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. Using culturally, environmentally and climactically appropriate designs, materials and strategies, we hope the submissions to this competition will use great creativity and offer powerful ideas to help achieve this goal.
Global Green USA’s “Healthy Homes and Smart Neighborhoods Response Team” initiative for New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region is an outgrowth of the organization’s decade-long commitment to improving the lives of low-income families through greening affordable housing, creating sustainable neighborhoods, and advancing climate solutions that work for communities. In short, focusing on community solutions that address two of our greatest global challenges: climate change, and poverty.
Global Green USA’s goals include: greening 10,000 homes (via policy incentives through tax credit financing and guidelines developed with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity); educating the public and professionals about green and healthy building (via our New Orleans resource center, education, and workshops); encouraging the greening schools and places of worship. With support from the Home Depot Foundation, Jerry and Ann Moss, and dozens of individuals (including staff members of Global Green USA), we opened a New Orleans’ office in February and a Green Building Resource Center in May. The office and center were established also in part to serve as a design collective – with a front end education center for the public and professionals with nearly museum quality display of products and systems that are green, of good design, and regionally available — to help build the green building expertise of the local professional community. The competition will help advance this goal.

I believe that he has finally met his true love in Angelina and I am wishing them the vey best. Although yes, she may not ethnically fit the role, it may have been hard to find someone who was. Anyway - she will do a great job. And really, there was never any way that JA could pull off a role like this. Thursday, March 23, 2006Review: Why Every Single Jennifer Aniston Movie Except Office Space SucksBy Mishy Yeah, I was going to review this one Jennifer Aniston movie, called "The Object of My Affection", until I realized that all of Jennifer Aniston movies suck. Well, all of them that is, except Office Space (1999).See, here is my theory on her. She’s a one-trick pony and unless something drastic happens, she’s headed for the glue factory. Really, she’s flopped more than she’s succeeded in movies. "But, she was in Friends!" you all say. Yeah yeah… she was in Friends. And I liked her in Friends…sorta. But, keep in mind that she was in a cast with 5 other leads, so really, she was only one-sixth of that show. Anyway, like 99.238% of her movies have sucked and sucked hard. Except Office Space. Office Space was one kick ass movie. If you haven’t seen it, I’m sad for you. Seriously, it is such a good movie that you almost forget that Jennifer Aniston is in it. And the good thing is, she isn’t a main main character in the movie.So let’s document why Jen’s movie career has been less than stellar, shall we? Here we go:Leprechaun (1993): Lets just say that you know its a bad movie when the leprechaun whines more than Jen did after Brad started shacking up with Angelina.She’s the One (1996): Everyone says that Edward Burns is a great film maker, but I must say that I just don’t see the appeal. This was a boring movie.Picture Perfect (1997): Jen plays a woman who is so insecure that she makes up a story about being engaged, just to feel impress her boss. This movie was made back when Jen had the "Rachel" haircut and so did every other woman in the world. This was not a time I remember fondly. It wasn’t even that great of a hair cut, people!The Object of My Affection (1998): In this movie, Jen plays a woman in love with her best friend. The catch? Her best friend is gay. Hey, anyone want to save themselves 2 hours of their life? Watch an episode of Will and Grace and you will get the exact plot of this movie. The only difference? Will and Grace is funny.Office Space (1999): Ok, this is Jen’s one good movie. I’ll admit it, it was an awesome movie and I recommend it to everyone.Rock Star (2001): I blame the casting on this stinker. Does anyone else have a hard time picturing the safe, good, girl-next-door, Jennifer Aniston married/dating a rock star? Pamela Anderson, she ain’t, people.The Good Girl (2002): You know, I wanted to like this movie, and I really enjoyed the story, but god damn it was slow! It was supposed to be one of those artsy films that everyone likes because its so damned ‘artsy’. It was so-so at best. The only bonus to watching this movie? Jen’s character has an affair with my sex machine, Jake Gyllenhaal. Mmmmm…. Jake Gyllenhaal. I’d hit that. But I digress… Back to the list.Bruce Almighty (2003): Argh… awful movie! Jen plays second fiddle to an over the top Jim Carrey. This movie was so unfunny, its sucked all my sarcasm out of me and I am left unable to say anything slightly humourous about it. Argh… gotta shake it off.Along Came Polly (2004): I haven’t seen it, but I did see the trailer for the movie. And unless the trailer for the movie was drastically misleading, I think its safe to say that this movie fell in to Jen’s destructive pattern of movies that tanked. Seriously, who is advising her to make these movies? What person said to her, "Jen, its a classic! You will star with Ben Stiller, where he is the up-tight guy and you are the free-spirit girl. And then he gets bitten by your ferret! It will make millions! MILLIONS!!!"Derailed (2005): Ok Jen, we get it. At this point, Brad is off with Angie saving the world and you are left to fend off the press. Supermarket tabloids have your picture on their covers with titles like, "CRUSHED! How Jen plans to take down Angie and win back her man!" or "Jen cries: I will have your baby, Brad!". I understand. You had to fight back. Show the world that you are a tough and capable woman. And I get that… but Sweetie? I’m sorry to say that you are not a femme fatale. You are too… girl-next-door. Too Bland. Too vanilla. And I don’t think its all to blame on typecasting. You just are that way. Sorry.Rumor Has It (2005): Ok, I haven’t seen this movie (mostly because its the one about Jen finding out that her family was the basis for the movie, The Graduate, and just that sentence describing it shows me how bad it will blow). But thanks to Jen herself, I don’t even have to see it. I don’t even have to really review it for you people. I’m allowing my special guest reviewer, Jennifer Aniston herself to fill you all in on what the star thinks of her own film: "The worst experience of my life, the worst experience, the worst film. It sounded like a great idea, an interesting backdrop for a romantic comedy. But it was never fleshed out, never fully realized. And for me personally, I was going through a horrible time. I wasn’t at my best as an actor. I was unmotivated by it. Why talk about it? We can let that little train go by."Way to sell me on it, sweetie. Hello Bamzsies,Well, the week is over and an exciting weekend ahead. I meant to tell you about the surprise Angelina has for Brad. Before Brad left, they were considering changing the bedroom linens on the bed to fit better the overall house interior design. That’s where the whole architecture "session" started, in their master bedroom. I offered some ideas where to look for the perfect bedding and we ended up looking at Ralph Lauren. Both Brad and Angelina loved the bedding collections but both had different picks. Angelina was leaning towards an islandy look with relaxed casual fabrics in white and blue. She said the colors would blend with the sky and the ocean outside the window. Brad on the other hand wanted the bedding to fit the inside colors. He loves jazz and the jazz era style combined with modernism of the 50’s. So out of all the collections Angelina was leaning towards Catalina Island collection and Brad wanted the 52nd Street Collection. Personally I was siding with Brad. He does have an impeccable taste and knows exactly what he wants. The 52nd Street bedding is truly sophisticated, inspired by the jazz era with the pinstripe, herringbone, windowpane and jacquard patterns in muted tones on canvas and sateen. The surprise is that Angelina is letting Brad have his way… and she purchased the collection yesterday with overnight delivery. Today we’re setting it up.
