Something is happening to you. This is not for … you’re doing more and more. Man, I got kids now. And it really changes your perspective on the world. And, you know, I’ve had my day. I’ve had my day. I made some films and I’ve really had a very fortunate life. And it’s time for me to share that a bit.
Angie says that having children really changes things. It’s true. It changes … it completely changes your perspective. And certainly takes the focus off yourself, which I’m really grateful for. [laughs] I’m really grateful to them.
You tell … I’m so tired of thinking about myself. I’m kinda sick of myself… I can’t do justice to it anymore than any other parent can. You feel that you want to be there and you don’t want to miss out on anything… And it’s a true joy. And you want to be there for them if they need anything. It’s a true joy.
Love. Yeah, it’s … oh, a very profound love. Yeah.
Wonderful. Best thing I ever did. You know, you can write a book, you can make a movie, you can draw, paint a painting, but having kids is really the most extraordinary thing I’ve ever taken on. And, man, if I can get a burp out of that, that little thing, I’ll feel such a sense of accomplishment.

Brad Pitt recently teamed up with the non-profit group Global Green to try and spur green-friendly building in the Crescent City. I’m baffled because the people here on the ground have not gotten the money yet. They have not received restitution.
Nearly a year after Katrina, Brad Pitt sees first hand a city still ravaged. We can get in the car from this spot and we can drive for two hours and you will see this. We will see more of this. And it’s staggering. It’s unsettling.
By some estimates something like half — 50% — of this city is still abandoned. Yeah, it’s shocking. In one of our greatest cities. But you see it, it’s house on top of house on top of car. And this is a story you’ll find street after street… Imagine going through the trauma of this, of watching everything you own be swept away, maybe loss of life, and then sitting in this limbo for a year. Wanting to get your life back. But not knowing whether it’s even possible. Are there gonna be schools here? Are the hospitals gonna be up and running? Are your neighbors gonna be back here?
To this shattered city Pitt is bringing a new idea called green design — that is, a way to rebuild using materials that are less harmful to the environment, and cheaper for people to live in. Right now 45% of our pollution comes from the creation of our buildings and the operation of our buildings, which is a staggering number.
Not only are you talking about it, you put some money into this project? Yeah, sure I’m sponsoring this competition. I’m invested in this competition.
About 100,000 dollars? So far. But my goal is to see something tangible, to see something built that can become an example, a template … a flagship for other people who are facing rebuilding.
What do you say to people who react by thinking, you know what, this type of housing is too far-fetched for people that needed houses yesterday? Absolutely. And building quickly and building with as little labor force as possible. We are sitting here in the middle of New Orleans and they have a shortage of homes, rent rates are through the roof. A family living here is struggling with $100 a month in electricity bills, $200 dollars a month and you can get that .. you can knock that down 90 percent, where it’s $10, $20 dollars and it is possible. And relatively easy as soon as we change our building practices.

# 42 | jossip Oh for crying out loud…because he used the word "staggering" to describe something that *IS* staggering (how slowly N.O. is recovering), and its also a word that his significant other used in an interview means she’s getting sick of him? I know some here don’t like Lainey, and I don’t always agree with or like everything she writes, but she’s usually pretty spot on with the major points she writes about the Jolie Pitts and she says they’re happy, and together. People need to get a grip. # 48 | Original jpf - YES YES YES, I wish people can just ignore haters. For one thing, if people come in and spew hate, I think we should defend the Jolie Pitts, but defending them, IMO, does NOT mean trashing JA or VV. Leave them out everything, they and their lives and their movie has nothing to do with the Jolie Pitts. Trashing them or dragging them into it when someone attacks the J-P’s just adds fuel to the stupid, stupid flamewars.

The thing that I don’t understand is why both the funds and rebuilding efforts are so slow. This is unbelievable in a bad, bad way. I gave and lots of Americans gave $$ to Red Cross and other organizations and my employer sent health care professionals there. Is no one in charge of the coordination of efforts? Where is homeland security? Why is nothing being done? Is the mayor by himself? What about the state governments? I am very nervous and worried about this hurricane season!
I agree that he loves kids. So happy with having kids. BUT there is nothing, no indication in any interview, photo, or heresay from anyone, that Angie is the love of his life or vice versa. When I see Just Jared regulars write that, it is a bit delusional. There is much speculation that they are in this relationship for the kids only. Sort of an arranged togtherness as speculated for the Kidmans, but obviously not monetarily based. I do think they lusted for each other in the beginning and maybe had other sorts of dreams. But that seems to quickly changed… a relationshiop based on kids alone is not exactly a love affair between 2 people. As the kids start to grow up, these sorts of realtionships quickly fizzle. Besides, she is too much in control.
It goes without saying that both Angelina & Brad love their children dearly but as far as the adults being together solely for the purpose of the children as has been suggested is inane. There are a mil ways that one could be accomplished without the adults being together. I only have to look at who these two are, and Angelina isn’t the type of woman, nor is Brad the type of man that would be with someone; live as husband and wife (taht IS what they’re doing) without a deep love for one another connecting them. jpf
# 54 | Renee - its a lot of factors. Part of it is the snails pace of government bureacracy. Part of it is that FEMA was been decimated by being folded into the Department of Homeland Security. Part of it is that the resources themselves have been mismanaged. The Red Cross is mostly for emergencies and helping out in disasters, which I think they have done a decent job at, but they are not in the business of long term rebuilding. That, IMO, we need to look to the governments - state, federal, and local. But the federal government needs to be doing more and making rebuilding that city more of a priority than it has. State and local as well, but how is NO supposed to get the resources for rebuilding when 50% of their citizens and tax base is gone?

i just knew the haters were going to jump on braddy’s moment of self-deprecation. before you go any further, he means he’s tired of living a self-centered, shallow, golden boy life. the life he lived when he was with jennifer. now he’s got interests outside of himself. he’s got a family. he’s been blessed and now he’s in the business of sharing his blessings. and a lot of people are grateful that he is.
I absolutely adore and admire Brad Pitt. He is an amazing man who is right where he wants to be. At the end of the day, haters will hate but Brad is going home to a wonderful family who think he’s the best thing since sliced bread. If he never wins and Oscar, it won’t matter to him. If people stop going to his movies, it won’t matter to him because nothing can compare to the love Angie and his children give him on a daily basis. He is blessed and he is loved and he knows it. I am his fan for life.

# 55 | rac - Brad has NEVER (willingly or openly) talked about the women in his life. EVER. When JA would talk about their relationship, like on Oprah, he always said he wished she’d not do so. I don’t think either Brad or Angie would be together just for kids. Angie could have kept adopting kids on her own. She said she always thought she’d adopt all her children, but that changed when she met Brad - why? Because THEY LOVE EACH OTHER. They are in love. Together. Plain and simple as that. As for them being the loves of each others lives, I think that much is clear just from the way they fit, how alike and similar they are in their views and goals, and that is what we know from the OUTSIDE.

It is ridiculous to think that in this time and age with people that are worth MILLIONS OF DOLLARS…they would be together just for the sake of the children or just to have children….haters contradict each other…they accused them of being forward enough to just shack up together BUT they also accused them of being traditional enough to be together "just for the children"….lol, they should pick a side or shut up…whatever the choice I’m pretty damn sure neither BP or AJ give a damn about what the "haters" think.
Congress voted to get rid of FEMA, which wasted $1 billion of people’s money. Now that is very staggering. I see absolutely no one taking charge of the situation at the local or state or even national level. I too am worried about this hurricane season. It seems as though the only way NO and all the other places that were ravaged by the past hurricane season will get rebuilt is through the good will of average Americans and because of celebrities like Harry Connick Jr, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, and now Brad Pitt among others who are trying to use their influence to help the city and its citizens. I am very disappointed and disgusted with the way the aftermath of Katrina was handled. I donated money and other items that were needed but I just feel completely outraged by the fact that after one whole year, the streets of NO appear to be still in a mess. I know there are people there that are helping but the process is too slow and I wonder how many people will be willing to come back by the time everything is rebuilt.

# 66 | syd - FEMA wasted money because homeland security has hampered its effectiveness. But yes, there were/are failures on EVERY level of government. Its going to take a decade, at least, to rebuild New Orleans. Its sad though, that its taken this long, almost a year, just to clean up debris, and even that hasn’t really happened to the extent that it should.
