Ann Curry Interviews Brad Pitt

Something is happening to you. This is not for … you’re doing more and more. Man, I got kids now. And it really changes your perspective on the world. And, you know, I’ve had my day. I’ve had my day. I made some films and I’ve really had a very fortunate life. And it’s time for me to share that a bit.

Angie says that having children really changes things.  It’s true. It changes … it completely changes your perspective. And certainly takes the focus off yourself, which I’m really grateful for. [laughs]  I’m really grateful to them.

You tell … I’m so tired of thinking about myself. I’m kinda sick of myself… I can’t do justice to it anymore than any other parent can. You feel that you want to be there and you don’t want to miss out on anything… And it’s a true joy. And you want to be there for them if they need anything. It’s a true joy.

Love. Yeah, it’s … oh, a very profound love. Yeah.

Wonderful.  Best thing I ever did. You know, you can write a book, you can make a movie, you can draw, paint a painting, but having kids is really the most extraordinary thing I’ve ever taken on. And, man, if I can get a burp out of that, that little thing, I’ll feel such a sense of accomplishment.

VIEW :: Check out the designs of the six finalists from Brad Pitt’s Global Green competition.

Brad Pitt by: Ann Curry

Brad Pitt recently teamed up with the non-profit group Global Green to try and spur green-friendly building in the Crescent City. I’m baffled because the people here on the ground have not gotten the money yet. They have not received restitution.

Nearly a year after Katrina, Brad Pitt sees first hand a city still ravaged. We can get in the car from this spot and we can drive for two hours and you will see this. We will see more of this. And it’s staggering. It’s unsettling.

By some estimates something like half — 50% — of this city is still abandoned. Yeah, it’s shocking. In one of our greatest cities. But you see it, it’s house on top of house on top of car. And this is a story you’ll find street after street… Imagine going through the trauma of this, of watching everything you own be swept away, maybe loss of life, and then sitting in this limbo for a year. Wanting to get your life back. But not knowing whether it’s even possible. Are there gonna be schools here? Are the hospitals gonna be up and running? Are your neighbors gonna be back here?

To this shattered city Pitt is bringing a new idea called green design — that is, a way to rebuild using materials that are less harmful to the environment, and cheaper for people to live in. Right now 45% of our pollution comes from the creation of our buildings and the operation of our buildings, which is a staggering number.

Not only are you talking about it, you put some money into this project? Yeah, sure I’m sponsoring this competition. I’m invested in this competition.

About 100,000 dollars? So far. But my goal is to see something tangible, to see something built that can become an example, a template … a flagship for other people who are facing rebuilding.

What do you say to people who react by thinking, you know what, this type of housing is too far-fetched for people that needed houses yesterday? Absolutely. And building quickly and building with as little labor force as possible. We are sitting here in the middle of New Orleans and they have a shortage of homes, rent rates are through the roof. A family living here is struggling with $100 a month in electricity bills, $200 dollars a month and you can get that .. you can knock that down 90 percent, where it’s $10, $20 dollars and it is possible. And relatively easy as soon as we change our building practices.

Something is happening to you. This is not for … you’re doing more and more. Man, I got kids now. And it really changes your perspective on the world. And, you know, I’ve had my day. I’ve had my day. I made some films and I’ve really had a very fortunate life. And it’s time for me to share that a bit.

So, this is random but I would love to see Brad or Angie on Late Night with Conan. I know that both of them have been on there once but I only saw Brad’s appearance (he was promoting Troy) and it was hilarious!Conan advertised the movie using Brad’s body as bait lol They talked about how he had to quit smoking while training then he said something along the lines of him being in the best shape of his life. Conan sarcastically said, "Yeah, because you looked like a total slob in your other movies!" lol At one point Conan stripped and wore a costume from Troy that Brad brought. After they finished the interview, Brad drove off in Conan’s hideous ‘92 green Ford Taurus. Classic! Those two are great together.

Will i vote? @ 07/19/2006 at 12:27 am

Brad needs our help–contest runs a week (Mon-Mon): http://www.hellomagazine.com/vote/mostattractiveman/index.html?presentar=resultado&reciente=false # 896 | Dancer ————————I really do not understand why you bother to vote in these stupid polls. The site’s goal is self-serving. They just want to increase their number of hits.Isn’t it enough for you people to know that People mag site received 25 million hits when SHILOH’s pictures were released, which is a very good indicator to measure the interest of the public about the family.

# 901 | Amaya do you have a clip from brad and angie’s interview on conan. I love conan. He is way better than Leno IMHO.

"FATHERHOOD has change him…? His priorities changed from being a HONEST man to a lying cheat and deceitful man running with a lying slutbag! Ralph Fiennes is SHILOH?S REAL DAD! Angelina would obviously deceive Ralph and the world be that she is a HOMEWRECKING DESPERATE PATHETIC *****! So, what is your accuse MR. PITT?"this is one of the comments in fametastic, earlier today…Obviously an X fan, who still can’t accept the fact that BRAD found his true happiness.

I can’t find Angie’s interview but someone posted the scene where Brad drives off in Conan’s car! lolhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2jMTgeP9IM&search=conan%20bradConan, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are my favorite late night hosts.

just asking @ 07/19/2006 at 12:35 am

# 904 | chachav————————Please fo not pollute this site with such garbage. I do not know the real motive why you have to post such dirty accusations.

chinman inspires lunatics @ 07/19/2006 at 12:36 am

# 904 | chachav hehe. It’s amusing to see how they get so mad. I think what really gets to them is that Brad and Angie really don’t feel the need to explain their lives to anyone and how they choose to live it. Unlike Maniston, who has to weep for every magazine cover she could get. That’s sad.

Great article about Brad and Angie!http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/18/AR2006071801547.html

Here is an essay from the Washinton Post about Brad being in NO. Is this guy being nice but in a funny way or is he just being sarcastic?http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/18/AR2006071801547.html

huh? Ralph Fiennes? man, Brad has his work cut out for him. every able man in Hollywood wants to claim Shiloh as his own. Brad must be beating these vultures off with a stick. um….so that’s why he works out a lot :)

908 KK sorry I did not realize you had already posted this article

I’m bacckkkk….well for the next hour that is…my brother is tinkling with my computer again…I’m using his right now, hate this computer…ughhhh…so hard to type…

#903You can download Brad’s interview on Conan from pittcenter, underneath 2004http://www.pittcenter.com/video2.htm

the guy from washington post is just being his regular ******* self.

to the crazies @ 07/19/2006 at 12:53 am

I took this off Eonline "Ask the Answer *****" page . To all Brad & Angie Hater ..this is for you "The worst punishment Pitt is suffering right now? Infinitesimal bits of bile coming from hordes of pea-size homunculi like you and the rest of the microscopic nonfamous population. I’m sure you Lilliputians are determined to abhor Brad–just, ooh, despise him–for the next few months, focusing your beady little eyes into ball bearings of pure rage and doing your mightiest to pierce Pitt’s flesh with psychic beams of searing hate. Or, at least, you’ll do your best to think ill thoughts about Pitt until something cool comes on TV, like those crazy Two and a Half Men doing something high-larious.To Pitt, the attack probably feels like a few stray pieces of fluffy dandelion seeds hitting the giant slab of a face that Abraham Lincoln has on Mount Rushmore"

Here is an essay from the Washinton Post about Brad being in NO. Is this guy being nice but in a funny way or is he just being sarcastic?http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/18/AR2006071801547.html # 909 | alero | July 19, 2006 12:44 AM read the article. i’d say he’s being tongue-in-cheek funny but deep down, respectful and appreciated of what Brad’s doing. it’s clear in the sentence: "Whatever meltdown Tom Cruise had in the summer of 2005, Brad is having the exact opposite in the summer of 2006. He grows stronger, more golden, and he wants us to share in it."

Alexanderina @ 07/19/2006 at 12:56 am

# 909 | alero | - After reading the article and this is my opinion, I think he is being sarcastic.

Amaya Thanks I’ll check it out. :)And about the voting poll at hello, there is no problem with us voting, but let’s not go overboard with the clicking because sooner or later the maniston fans will find out about it and monoplize the whole contest it doesn’t matter that much.

# 908 | kk # 909 | alero thanks for the link…very interesting article.

I’ll say the guy is just trying to exercise his power of stylish writing and he decides to use it on Brad. In the end he prefers Brad to Tom.

Brad Pitt, Forcing Us To VolunteerBy Hank StueverWashington Post Staff WriterWednesday, July 19, 2006; Page C01Brad Pitt! What does he want from us? Save Africa, save New Orleans, save the planet — but we’re not like you, Brad, not as able, so show us. (Show us, but keep in mind our budget.)Soon he and Angelina Jolie won’t even live on Earth, they’ll just dangle above it, in a nursery-equipped Gulfstream IV, sort of the way Brandon Routh’s Superman prefers to just float, in the stratosphere, listening acutely, compassionately, for trouble down there, and when he hears it, zoom , down he goes. We were always told that this is what the citizens of the future would do: They would have no fixed address. They would go where needed, constantly, selflessly.Save & ShareTag This Article Saving options1. Save to description: Headline (required) Byline2. Save to notes (255 character max): Blurb3. Tag This ArticleIt was supposed to be orphans and Darfur and genocide, wasn’t it? Or adoption and finding meaning and fatherhood? That was the focus, right? Really, no, it’s the world. Look at the whole world. Jet around the world and look at it for yourself — that’s what Brad is saying, what Brad is doing. Knowing you can’t fly, he instead takes the press along — that pesky media horde, put them to work on something that shows the magnitude of it all, the suffering. He showed up in New Orleans last week with some starchitects, talking about green apartment buildings that take river water and run it through turbines for cheap, clean power — he went on, but honestly we’ve already forgotten. It turns out that while he was in Africa all that time, inseminating Angelina and divorcing Jennifer Aniston and not appearing in any movies, there was a hurricane in New Orleans and — nobody knows this, but Brad says there is still unrepaired damage and woe, and something must be done, something like a two-part interview on the "Today" show. (The second part aired yesterday morning.)Ann Curry: Something is happening to you to make you want to do this stuff, because you’re doing more and more of it.Brad Pitt: Man, I got kids now and it really changes your perspective on the world. And, you know, I’ve had my day. I’ve made some films and I’ve really had a very fortunate life and it’s time for me to share a bit.Ann Curry (eyebrows scrunched in complete, serious adoration) : Hmmm. Angie says that. She says that the reason why she does so much humanitarian work is because having children, she feels a greater responsibility, that she –Brad Pitt (cuter by the moment) : It’s true. It completely changes your perspective. And it certainly takes the focus off yourself, which I am really grateful for. I’m really grateful to — I’m so tired of thinking about myself, man, I’m sick of myself. I can’t do justice to it any more than any other parent can. You feel that you want to be there and you don’t want to miss out on anything. And it’s a true joy. And you want to be there for them if they — if they need anything. It’s a true joy.Ann: Love?Brad: Yeah. Oh, it’s a very profound love, yeah. The best thing I ever did. You know, you can . . . write a book, you can make a movie, you can paint a painting, but having kids is really the most extraordinary thing I’ve ever taken on. And, man, if I can get a burp out of that little thing, I feel such a sense of accomplishment.Ann: . . . Matt?Matt Lauer: He seems like he’s in a really centered place — grounded place — in his life right now.Ann: I think very much so. I was very impressed with him. Very intelligent and really humble, Matt.Parenthood changed him. The children, the children. Brad Pitt is not the first man to find his higher purpose lingering near the Diaper Genie. But most people have another reaction to parenthood: That is when they buy the 13-mpg hulk of a car, and start testing for mold spores in the playroom. That is when a Sam’s Club card looks pretty good. That is when they head for the better school districts and the tract mansions. That is when people access the true narrative of boredom. That is when the world stops seeming like some wonderful Eurailpass or a Let’s Go guide. That is when a job really becomes a job and you cope with it. If Brad Pitt were having the standard response to fatherhood, then he would be playing Superman in "Superman Returns," for $22 million minimum and a percentage on the back end, not being Superman, not handing out $2 million to aid organizations. Fatherhood usually inspires serious cocooning, fortressing, amassing of personal funds. But Brad wants more from us and for us. It turns out the future lies in this constant upscaling of the volunteer heart. Your child must now do charity work to get a diploma, your co-workers are training for another bike-a-thon, and your movie stars are forever looking for a cure — not a cure for them, a cure for you. That reliable anti-volunteer, Ayn Rand, would grab a barf bucket (not for you, for her). That sort of cynicism is so passe; you have not seen the light.Complete attention, to wherever he points, that’s what Brad wants from us, followed by our boundless, humanitarian heartfeltness. He is in a complete mode of celebrity glow, and on him, for some inexplicable reason, it looks good. Whatever meltdown Tom Cruise had in the summer of 2005, Brad is having the exact opposite in the summer of 2006. He grows stronger, more golden, and he wants us to share in it.Soon Brad or Angie will begin showing up and just laying on hands. He’ll spit in the dirt and make clay and rub it on the eyes of the blind. People will clamor just to touch the frayed hem of his cargo pants. As if they already don’t.

#909|Alero-I think that he is just being nice but putting a funny spin on it. The writer sounds to me as if he admires Brad’s efforts. The article amost has a "how do they manage to do all that they do(because he also mentions Angie)". He seems to marvel at their ability to get the press following them to pay attention to serious issues. I also think this writer seems to sense the growing power of this couple. I look back a year ago and, not withstanding the people with bad attitudes who insist on looking backwards to the past and and worshipping the era of the "false golden coupledom", almost find it amazing to see the change in Brad Pitt. It must be that the unification of Angelina with Brad unleashed some force that has caused major change in the cosmos. The present day Brad Pitt appears confident, happy, assured, and doing things his way. He has spent most of the last year seemingly being who he wants to be.

good opinion @ 07/19/2006 at 1:12 am

The Washington Post article is a very good article for Brad. He painted Brad in good light, although funny and a bit of sarcastic. It is heartening to know that respectable newspapers and magazines like Washington Post, Time and Newsweek take Brad and Angie seriously for their good intentions and good deeds.
