Ann Curry Interviews Brad Pitt

Something is happening to you. This is not for … you’re doing more and more. Man, I got kids now. And it really changes your perspective on the world. And, you know, I’ve had my day. I’ve had my day. I made some films and I’ve really had a very fortunate life. And it’s time for me to share that a bit.

Angie says that having children really changes things.  It’s true. It changes … it completely changes your perspective. And certainly takes the focus off yourself, which I’m really grateful for. [laughs]  I’m really grateful to them.

You tell … I’m so tired of thinking about myself. I’m kinda sick of myself… I can’t do justice to it anymore than any other parent can. You feel that you want to be there and you don’t want to miss out on anything… And it’s a true joy. And you want to be there for them if they need anything. It’s a true joy.

Love. Yeah, it’s … oh, a very profound love. Yeah.

Wonderful.  Best thing I ever did. You know, you can write a book, you can make a movie, you can draw, paint a painting, but having kids is really the most extraordinary thing I’ve ever taken on. And, man, if I can get a burp out of that, that little thing, I’ll feel such a sense of accomplishment.

Brad Pitt by: Ann Curry

Brad Pitt recently teamed up with the non-profit group Global Green to try and spur green-friendly building in the Crescent City. I’m baffled because the people here on the ground have not gotten the money yet. They have not received restitution.

Nearly a year after Katrina, Brad Pitt sees first hand a city still ravaged. We can get in the car from this spot and we can drive for two hours and you will see this. We will see more of this. And it’s staggering. It’s unsettling.

By some estimates something like half — 50% — of this city is still abandoned. Yeah, it’s shocking. In one of our greatest cities. But you see it, it’s house on top of house on top of car. And this is a story you’ll find street after street… Imagine going through the trauma of this, of watching everything you own be swept away, maybe loss of life, and then sitting in this limbo for a year. Wanting to get your life back. But not knowing whether it’s even possible. Are there gonna be schools here? Are the hospitals gonna be up and running? Are your neighbors gonna be back here?

To this shattered city Pitt is bringing a new idea called green design — that is, a way to rebuild using materials that are less harmful to the environment, and cheaper for people to live in. Right now 45% of our pollution comes from the creation of our buildings and the operation of our buildings, which is a staggering number.

Not only are you talking about it, you put some money into this project? Yeah, sure I’m sponsoring this competition. I’m invested in this competition.

About 100,000 dollars? So far. But my goal is to see something tangible, to see something built that can become an example, a template … a flagship for other people who are facing rebuilding.

What do you say to people who react by thinking, you know what, this type of housing is too far-fetched for people that needed houses yesterday? Absolutely. And building quickly and building with as little labor force as possible. We are sitting here in the middle of New Orleans and they have a shortage of homes, rent rates are through the roof. A family living here is struggling with $100 a month in electricity bills, $200 dollars a month and you can get that .. you can knock that down 90 percent, where it’s $10, $20 dollars and it is possible. And relatively easy as soon as we change our building practices.

Something is happening to you. This is not for … you’re doing more and more. Man, I got kids now. And it really changes your perspective on the world. And, you know, I’ve had my day. I’ve had my day. I made some films and I’ve really had a very fortunate life. And it’s time for me to share that a bit.

FITR: Thanks for the response and really I don’t know how else to respond in-kind. It is very frustrating to be on the ‘outside looking in’. If it can happen there in New Orleans than why not where I live? I am grateful that Brad and others are doing their part and at least there is some hope. But realistically speaking, this is the role and importance of government; this is why we pay taxes. ‘If the government can not protect its people from natural and man-made disasters, then what is its purpose?Syd: I have actually thought about relocating back to New Orleans. I lived there is the early 90’s. I love to move from place to place – get bored very easily and being a military brat and stint in the Navy has led to that lifestyle. However, I CAN NOT do it knowing that electricity, water, food, housing, and general coordination of efforts is scarce. I haven’t checked the job market but what is a job is you have no home, no food, no water.

# 55 | rac Both risk their career and image to be together. Is that not enough to tell you they are in love ?If Brad just want kid , he could have any woman to conceive for him. Angelina is very independent, in fact, she said before if she didn’t found the right guy, she is prepared to raise Maddox alone.

Brad Pitt on Having Kids: ‘A True Joy’By Stephen M. SilvermanHaving children is the best thing Brad Pitt ever did, he says."It really changes your perspective on the world, Pitt, 42, said during a Today show interview aired Monday morning. "You know, I’ve had my day. I made some films, and I’ve really had a very fortunate life, and it’s time for me to share that a little bit." Admitting that he shares his partner Angelina Jolie’s belief in contributing to humanitarian causes, Pitt also credits the couple’s kids – Maddox, 4, Zahara, 1, and newborn daughter Shiloh – with the shift in his attitude. Having children, he says, "completely changes your perspective and certainly takes the focus off yourself, which I’m really grateful for." Chuckling, he added: "I’m so tired of thinking about myself. I’m sick of myself." Of parenting, he says: "You feel you want to be there and not miss out on anything. It’s a true joy (and) a very profound love. You can write a book, you can make a movie, you can paint a painting, but having kids is the most extraordinary thing I’ve ever taken on." More on this storyWelcome, Baby Shiloh! And of Shiloh, he revealed: "Man, if I can get a burp out of that little thing I feel such a sense of accomplishment." Pitt’s interview took place during his weekend visit to New Orleans, where he met with community leaders to lend his support to a Global Green effort for affordable, eco-friendly housing. "It’s shocking," Pitt said of the lack of progress in the hurricane-ravaged area. "Driving by houses in the Ninth Ward … it is just devastating." It opened a resource center in the city last month to give residents free design advice and information about environmentally friendly building products and strategies. Pitt’s participation includes his sponsorship and $100,000 investment in an architectural competition to green design a 12-unit apartment complex. (The contest drew 3,000 applicants from around the globe and has now been narrowed down to six finalists.) "My goal," Pitt said on Today, "is to see something tangible, to see something built that can become an example, a template … a flagship for other people who are facing rebuilding.

Brad the type of man that would be with someone; live as husband and wife (taht IS what they’re doing) without a deep love for one another connecting them. jpf # 56 | Original jpf |==========================I don’t even know how to respond to people that Claim that Brad and Angelina do not love each other. I mean where is the logic. This man that can have anyone, can go anywhere, live anywhere. waist his time living with a Gorgeous, intelligent, worldly, respected, with a heart of gold, That he,, Ahem,,, does not love,, Yeah right, Like I said, I just don’t know how to respond to something so insane. He has decided to spend the rest of his life with a women he does not love. He has decided to adopt a womens children, that he does not love. He has chosen to have a baby with a women he does not love. umm Humm, that makes sooooo much since,,, NOT. He is so happy he cant stop talking about it. But He does not love the women he is living with, lololol,, I just feel sorry for these poor people that just dont want them to be happy, because of something that is missing in their lives.. I mean, how can you not feel sorry for them, You may not like them, but to claim they dont love each other is just plain silly, and sad. No logic in their claims, just misery. “““sad“““

thanks jared :) @ 07/17/2006 at 11:22 am

It’s sad that the only thing people at Jossip get from this interview is some stupid rumor to add to the tired old bermuda triangle story. They didn’t even bothering mentioning the people who lost their homes or even lives. They didn’t mention the pain that Katrina caused. They didn’t mention how many people are struggling to get their lives back together. They didn’t mention any of the stuff that truly matters in life. All they did was resort to some gossip. I know both Jossip and JustJared are entertainment blogs, but atleast people here seem to talk about things beyond celebrities sometimes. I pity those who will only badmouth Brad for this interview rather than saying, "Ok I don’t like him but what he is doing will help many people and I wonder what I can do to help", rather than "Gee I wonder if he loves Angelina or is it all a big hoax". Pathetic.

81 | lookwhaticando WELL SAID !! You speak my heart out !

Brad is the man! A very successful movie actor/producer, empathic humanitarian, a devoted father to Mad, Z and baby Shiloh and a loving partner/husband to Angie. What a complete package of a man and he still looks so good at 42 and the envy of so many. Eat you hearts out x-fans beacause Brad is better than ever!

I looked at the 6 final designs and I have to agree that the “Rebuild Renew: Sustainable Design for the Holy Cross District” by Ken Gowland looked the best. What’s great is that this person is from New Orleans himself and now he can help contribute to rebuilding process of his city. It looks like many of the desigers had the same idea to use planted trellises to help cool the buildings. I guess it’s a commonly used thing.

BAMZS Fans!Don’t forget to register and vote for your favorite design. In order for your vote to count you must confirm your choice by clicking on the link sent to your personal email address. Go Brad!

Bradforums… has anyone seen the changes they made..i guess by the next update, Angie will be eliminated from the forum.. Its kinda sad… there was nothing wrong with way the forum was… what can i say..

# 91 | Maniston I checked the site again & my vote is still not counted. I did confirmed earlier.. :shrugs:

This man is happy over the moon happy. He has waited along time to live this part of life, the joy of children, and finally a woman that is willing to consider he needs in a relationship also. So haters stop hating look at the joy on his face and thank Angie for being the best love in his life. KIDS AT LAST, KIDS AT LAST, THANK GOD ALMIGHTY BRAD FINALLY GOT HIS KIDS, and he is just so blissfully happy.

Jossip wrote to his target audience "haters". Congratulations to the Jolie-Pitts, lovers of the truth and all those who want a better world.

# 92 | QQQQ | - You are kidding right, I am going over there right now to check this out

Like many BAMZS fans, I didn’t think much of Kennie Boy Brad before he hooked up with Angelina. But this Brad Pitt is someone I could respect. He had been talking about doing something for NO since September last year. He followed through in the most effective way he could, by sponsoring an architectural competition. he could have simply donated money but I really like the way he has tied in HIS own passions with his values in sponsoring this architectural competition and put in time and effort. He hasn’t just dropped in on NO and and tutted over the devastation but is doing something which will really help NO. He mentioned that the point is to get some of these built. It would not surprise me if he contributes money to get some of these homes built. BRAD PITT, you are the man. And I think he looks so much more real, so much better then the Kennie Boy look of bygone days.

I’m sorry I know this has nothing to do with Katrina but the recent violence in the mideast and between Israel and Lebanon is very worrying.I just wanted to get a first hand perspective of what was going on and at the Cnn website, people from both and Israel and Lebanon have posted their messages. The stories are heart breaking and eye opening. Here is thel link if anyone wants to read them. The messages aren’t long, but they do convey the fear and frustration these individuals must be going through right now since the attacks from both sides do not appear to be over. I sincerely hope that those people will be alright and that there is end to the violence, although that is doubtful. http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/07/17/feedback.emails/index.html
