Ann Curry Interviews Brad Pitt

Something is happening to you. This is not for … you’re doing more and more. Man, I got kids now. And it really changes your perspective on the world. And, you know, I’ve had my day. I’ve had my day. I made some films and I’ve really had a very fortunate life. And it’s time for me to share that a bit.

Angie says that having children really changes things.  It’s true. It changes … it completely changes your perspective. And certainly takes the focus off yourself, which I’m really grateful for. [laughs]  I’m really grateful to them.

You tell … I’m so tired of thinking about myself. I’m kinda sick of myself… I can’t do justice to it anymore than any other parent can. You feel that you want to be there and you don’t want to miss out on anything… And it’s a true joy. And you want to be there for them if they need anything. It’s a true joy.

Love. Yeah, it’s … oh, a very profound love. Yeah.

Wonderful.  Best thing I ever did. You know, you can write a book, you can make a movie, you can draw, paint a painting, but having kids is really the most extraordinary thing I’ve ever taken on. And, man, if I can get a burp out of that, that little thing, I’ll feel such a sense of accomplishment.

VIEW :: Check out the designs of the six finalists from Brad Pitt’s Global Green competition.

Brad Pitt by: Ann Curry

Brad Pitt recently teamed up with the non-profit group Global Green to try and spur green-friendly building in the Crescent City. I’m baffled because the people here on the ground have not gotten the money yet. They have not received restitution.

Nearly a year after Katrina, Brad Pitt sees first hand a city still ravaged. We can get in the car from this spot and we can drive for two hours and you will see this. We will see more of this. And it’s staggering. It’s unsettling.

By some estimates something like half — 50% — of this city is still abandoned. Yeah, it’s shocking. In one of our greatest cities. But you see it, it’s house on top of house on top of car. And this is a story you’ll find street after street… Imagine going through the trauma of this, of watching everything you own be swept away, maybe loss of life, and then sitting in this limbo for a year. Wanting to get your life back. But not knowing whether it’s even possible. Are there gonna be schools here? Are the hospitals gonna be up and running? Are your neighbors gonna be back here?

To this shattered city Pitt is bringing a new idea called green design — that is, a way to rebuild using materials that are less harmful to the environment, and cheaper for people to live in. Right now 45% of our pollution comes from the creation of our buildings and the operation of our buildings, which is a staggering number.

Not only are you talking about it, you put some money into this project? Yeah, sure I’m sponsoring this competition. I’m invested in this competition.

About 100,000 dollars? So far. But my goal is to see something tangible, to see something built that can become an example, a template … a flagship for other people who are facing rebuilding.

What do you say to people who react by thinking, you know what, this type of housing is too far-fetched for people that needed houses yesterday? Absolutely. And building quickly and building with as little labor force as possible. We are sitting here in the middle of New Orleans and they have a shortage of homes, rent rates are through the roof. A family living here is struggling with $100 a month in electricity bills, $200 dollars a month and you can get that .. you can knock that down 90 percent, where it’s $10, $20 dollars and it is possible. And relatively easy as soon as we change our building practices.

Something is happening to you. This is not for … you’re doing more and more. Man, I got kids now. And it really changes your perspective on the world. And, you know, I’ve had my day. I’ve had my day. I made some films and I’ve really had a very fortunate life. And it’s time for me to share that a bit.

#893 Passing ThroughI too hated Titanic, but I don’t blame the actors involved. It’s not their fault the hype went into overdrive. I lost interest in Leo, though, who used to be an interesting actor (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape) but then veered into sex symbol, model-dating shallow boredom. I don’t hate him, though, just got so indifferent to him, and really don’t understand the devotion to him by female fans — he’s really not THAT good-looking, kind of ordinary, actually. But Kate Winslet is ALWAYS interesting. She is a fine actress who went the other way and made smaller movies with complex roles. She is still young, and has a stable marriage, kids, and doesn’t buy into the starve-yourself Hollywood ethos, or go clubbing. She remains quiet, and just shows up when she’s making a movie. I really like her. If you were to rent the movies she has made, you would see a whole range of roles, and it’s very easy to put the claptrap that Titanic was behind when you look at her.

Jiminy Cricket @ 07/19/2006 at 1:00 pm

Gosh, this guy is SO transparent. He cares about the environment, huh? I suppose that’s why he spent the former past of this year, and the latter part of last, flying private planes from country to country.

# 949 | Missouri Fan Congrats Ate Char!!! Ah the joy of kids, you’ll feel "sublime" too lol. =D =D

Here’s a pic of Marianne Pearl and Angie with a short write up from Newsweek.http://tinyurl.com/l23rgSo according to the snippet, Aniston’s rep has no comment … trying to take that sad pathetic pity party route again ? Gosh these publicist thinks everyone behave like gullible fans of Aniston who absorb every word from tabs and her pr flack like a sponge and gospel truth. So NOT!!!

Jiminy Cricket @ 07/19/2006 at 1:29 pm

African Girl, you have to resort to ad hominem attacks because you have no arguement. I can’t believe the extents to which you will go to defend these people you don’t know. Personally attacking a stranger who did nothing to personally provoke you on an online blog not only demonstrates a weakness in argument, but a weakness in integrity and the ability to adhere to the rules of ‘fair play’. Brad Pitt is a hypocrite. He preaches environmentalism - says we’re "consuming ourselves into extinction" - yet he personally will not sacrifice his luxurious and cosmopolitan lifestyle to allay the threat to our planet. If you do not have the manners to address my points and would rather insult me, I will ignore you, just as I ignore my five year old son when he behaves as you just have.

remember da truth @ 07/19/2006 at 1:29 pm

What I like is that Brad didn’t just donate money to the Red Cross or some organization, but is actually making sure the money is going toward something that is, as he puts it, "tangible." I like that many architects are getting involved, and even if they don’t win the contest, their green methods are now also publicized, so they can get more work doing that elsewhere, or even in new orleans. The foundation will continue, instead of just one lump sum. The whole concept of sponsoring a contest like this is genius. The contributions will ripple out, like a stone in a pond, and many more besides the recipients of new apartments to live in will benefit from it.

So according to the snippet, Aniston’s rep has no comment … trying to take that sad pathetic pity party route again # 1009 |Perhaps or that deeply inside she KNOWS she doesn’t have any say at ALL since she know deep inside that she DOES NOT HAVE what it takes, I’m talking about TALENT. Give me some damn talent dammit!!! Ok back to lurkdome.

African Girl @ 07/19/2006 at 2:32 pm

#1010 / Jiminy CricketNo…I’m not attacking you…well maybe I am but can you blame me? Fine, I don’t know you but your post is a reflection of who you are…your thoughts and since the post is stupid…well, just sayin’. And if you don’t see where I’m coming from, well I guess I’m just gonna take a cue from you and ignore your posts….just like anyone would ignore a five yrs old who says something stupid.I know you all (his critics) hold him on an "above human standard" but the truth is, the man has no wings….so Until such a time when they make a solar powered aircraft available commercially, I don’t think you should hold the fact the he flies against him. There are somethings beyond our control and we just have to make do with those we can control. You say he lives a cosmopolitan lifestyle….okay, what would you have him do? Live under a bridge somewhere…..is this what is gonna convince you he loves the environment? Honestly, like I stated earlier, this is Stupid.

remember da truth @ 07/19/2006 at 3:04 pm

African Girl,These people are extremists; they only think in black and white. No imagination, so no room for grey, which is where reality lies. If someone doesn’t believe in cruelty to animals, it doesn’t mean they have to be a vegan, wear no leather, and wear no makeup to be true to their beliefs. Maybe they still believe in carnivorism, but not cruelty. In the same way, Brad Pitt can be disturbed by what mankind has done to the environment, and look for a way to use his famous name and face to sponsor an architectural project which will do more benefit for the environment both immediately and in the long run than he as an individual can do alone. This is what so many of these critics don’t get. That when Brad and Angie talk about issues they are looking beyond what one individual does or can do, but about how to make the biggest impact with a group effort, or exponential investment of all kinds of resources. It’s why Angie supports people learning how to irrigate, rather than just bringing them food, and so on. Brad doing things on an individual basis is all well and good, but he is putting more effort into causing a lasting impact in a program which will continue to grow and have a positive effect for a long time. But that’s too complex for some critics to understand. It’s much easier to try to take potshots at someone than to think, understand, and participate.

Jiminy Cricket @ 07/19/2006 at 3:15 pm

African Girl ~ You’re presenting a false dichotomy. Nobody has to "live under a bridge" in order to live a semi-environmentally friendly life. However, to fly private planes all over the world, moving from country to country every few months - or even weeks - is excessive. Nobody HAS to live like that, including Brad. Nobody. It’s an unnecessary indulgence (yes, INDULGENCE).And, yes, of course I blame you for your insulting words. Who else am I to blame? Take some personal responsibility.

African Girl @ 07/19/2006 at 3:31 pm

#1014 / Remember da Truth.Thank you, thank you because I am so done with that asinine post. #1015 / Jiminy CricketOkay…okay…I take responsibility for the insulting words. Yeah, I should have read your post and said "wow…what insightful post! My, oh my this person sure knows what she’s talking about." I should have compltely disregarded the follies in your posts.Flying planes, Moving from country to country…? Are you kid…..okay, okay…deep breath. So a little excessive…huh? You are right, you sure know what you’re talking about…I hope that wasn’t insulting.False Dichotomy….? And what is it you have presented? A true one?

Jiminy Cricket @ 07/19/2006 at 3:34 pm

Heh, I guess you don’t know what a false dichotomy is.

Jiminy Cricket @ 07/19/2006 at 3:38 pm

For African Girl:The logical fallacy of false dilemma (also known as falsified dilemma, fallacy of the excluded middle, black and white thinking, false dichotomy, false correlative, either/or dilemma or bifurcation), involves a situation in which two alternative points of view are held to be the only options, when in reality there exist one or more alternate options which have not been considered. The two alternatives presented are often, though not always, the two extreme points on some spectrum. Instead of such extreme simplification and wishful thinking, considering the whole spectrum, as in fuzzy logic, may be more appropriate.–Perhaps my post will make more sense to you now,

remember da truth @ 07/19/2006 at 3:40 pm

Jiminiy Cricket expects Brad to stay put, African Girl! Be boring like his X!! Just keep your mouth shut, don’t go anywhere, don’t learn about the world and explore it, just lie on the beach! Jiminy Cricket expects him to live in a bamboo hut and wear hemp clothing and grow his own organic vegetables, but do NOT, I’m warning ya, do NOT, find a way to help anyone out in this world, because you might have to use some gas to get there, and oh yeah, sponsoring an architectural project in new orleans — my gosh, those blueprints are using PAPER!! How dare he! He must really be a hypocrite. Go back to sitting in your hut, Brad, that’s the only way to make Jiminy Cricket happy.African Girl, you weren’t insulting enough…. He’s still chirping, using his back legs to whine like his idol X, face so close to the ground he can’t see the big picture.

Jiminy Cricket @ 07/19/2006 at 3:43 pm

I guess rememba da truth doesn’t know what a false dichotomy is either.Nobody has to "live under a bridge" in order to live a semi-environmentally friendly life. However, to fly private planes all over the world, moving from country to country every few months - or even weeks - is excessive. Nobody HAS to live like that, including Brad. Nobody. It’s an unnecessary indulgence (yes, INDULGENCE).

African Girl @ 07/19/2006 at 3:52 pm

1018 /Jiminy CricketLol…I am enjoying this little spar of ours. I could also post a little philosophical write up about Necessary Evils but what would be the point? What you see as petty indulgence, I see as neccesity. You have taken all their travels just as the tabloids have presented them…..for pleasure’s sake but take a closer look and you’d realize it is more than that. As my friend Remember the truth wrote, things aren’t black and white (From you cute right up, I see we at least agree on that.)

1002 AGHaven’t read any of your fanfic. Which thread are they.?The only ones I read are malibumom-something with VV/hairdresser and CHM and a couple more. I don’t have much time my comp. is giving me problems, dies after an hour . Modemmaybe the problem. Too many to read.Anyhow,It seems the JA/VV teamwork did effected a nice boxoffice return .I think JA made the perfect scheme and now the heat is gone for the TBU she is off for another manhunt.

Use ur real name @ 07/19/2006 at 3:53 pm

Jiminy cricket=Tomot=judy=JenA and her petty friendsRemember the chick was so stupid she put her personal life info on MYSPACE-how shallow can you be?Sharing your feeling with your cyberspace public but when Huvane said stop it-You did for fear of "looking bad"-Everything you have done Jen is for the sole purpose of keeping your public image up-Why? This is not a high school popularity contest! Graduate- and remember "if you can’t run with the big dogs, stay on the porch!

I think JA made the perfect scheme and now the heat is gone for the TBU she is off for another manhunt # 1022 | rose82 dun dun dun dun dun. we’ll (bamzsErs) will be watching.

African Girl @ 07/19/2006 at 4:01 pm

Jiminy CricketAlright, let’s bring this arguement to a….more realistic place. What do you propose an environmental Conscious person do with regards to Flying, Moving from country to country and living a cosmopolitan life style?
