OlderLance Bass: GAY!
Lance Bass, the former ‘N Sync heartthrob, reveals that he is gay, in an exclusive interview with People.
"I knew that I was in this popular band and I had four other guys’ careers in my hand, and I knew that if I ever acted on it or even said (that I was gay), it would overpower everything," says Bass, referring to bandmates Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez, and Justin Timberlake.
"I didn’t know: Could that be the end of ’N Sync? So I had that weight on me of like, ‘Wow, if I ever let anyone know, it’s bad.’ So I just never did," he says speaking about his sexual orientation for the first time with People.
Now, after years of keeping his personal life private, the Mississippi-bred, Southern Baptist-reared Bass, 27, is publicly revealing what he first shared with his friends, then his shocked family.
"He took years to really think about how he was going to tell everyone," says his close buddy Fatone, 29, who was the first ‘N Sync bandmate to find out Bass is gay. "I back him up 100 percent." Adds Bass’s longtime pal, actress Christina Applegate: "I’ve always accepted him as who he is. It’s about his own serenity at this point."
Having pursued acting, producing and – most memorably – space flight after ’N Sync went on hiatus in 2002, Bass now is looking ahead to new beginnings. He is in a "very stable" relationship with model-actor-Amazing Race winner Reichen Lehmkuhl, 32, and is developing an Odd Couple-inspired sitcom pilot with Fatone in which his character will be gay.
Mostly, though, he’s just enjoying the relief that comes with the culmination of a long, at times emotionally fraught journey.
"The thing is, I’m not ashamed – that’s the one thing I want to say," he explains of his decision to come out. "I don’t think it’s wrong, I’m not devastated going through this. I’m more liberated and happy than I’ve been my whole life. I’m just happy."
As for why he’s talking about this now Bass says, "The main reason I wanted to speak my mind was that (the rumors) really were starting to affect my daily life. Now it feels like it’s on my terms. I’m at peace with my family, my friends, myself and God so there’s really nothing else that I worry about."
No official word on the nose yet but it’s official, Lance Bass is gay. I’m sure this will come as a shock to a lot of you but how many of you have known for years? Lance and Reichen were walking around together in public as early as two months ago… but with a two-girl buffer between them, Jamie Lynn DiScala being one of them.

FIRST!I always knew this, and yes the rumors were all over the internet with these two sharing shirts and jeans and walking oh so carefully not so close to each other when they are out together.However, Reichen is so hot I would totally go there, Lance is lucky to land such a hot piece of meat!:)

From his days of being with Nsync you could always tell he was gay…sometimes its hard to tell but with him somehow you just new he wasn’t straight especially since he was the quitest one and you never saw him date anyone ever…

I think everyone’s going to say they knew. I remember when Justin said something about having a good friend who was gay, and the NSYNC fandom went crazy speculating it was Lance. I used to dream that he had a thing for JC.Now someone explain Danielle Fishel to me.

Celebrity or not, I DO NOT think that people should be outed. I’m happy to hear that his coming out was on on his own terms. (Even if it was possibly fueled by pressure from the rumors) In any case, he seems ready to handle any positive or negative energy that may come his way. Congratulations to him for owning who he is and living in his truth! It’s not an easy thing, especially for someone in the limelight.
I had a hunch but wasn’t sure. However, I’m happy that he’s out and that he’s happy. Plus, his boy is hot! lol!
*yawn*–I don’t think it was a big secret that Lance was gay. Did I know for years? No not really but I say good for him for coming out and saying he’s happy with his life etc.Oh he used to date Danielle Fishel huh? He does say somewhere in the interview that he likes women and "has been with" women but at some point realized he could never have a permanent relationship with one….maybe that answers that?

#17 I agree I don’t think anyone should ever be pressured about coming out, either from friends, rumours, media etc. I think this a corageous statement to make - good for him. In the times we live in I don’t think this will hinder him one way or the other. The best thing you can do for yourself is to live honestly & with conviction - good for him. And his boyfriends HOT, if the guy was straight I would date him. I wish LB all the best.

His own terms??? NOPE!!! He was outed and it was not his own terms. Media was not going to leave him alone. I think it’s funny how this whole this is now coming out and it will be accepted. Now when the hell are the other actors, actresses singers coming out? Hollywood is too much === Again we didn’t need him to get the cover of a popular magazine to let us know he was gay.
