# 85 | Just Jared fan I sort of agree with you JJfan. I can handle the parent’s storyline, and the Chinese [?] one, it’s the kids in jeopardy I can’t handle. Our daughter is grown, and I STILL can’t handle danger to kids.On the other hand, this IS going to be a HUGE film for Brad, and I’d really like to see it.Where is everyone tonight?

On the Brad, Angie and Maddox on the Beach Thread.

looks good.

mmmmmmmmm @ 07/28/2006 at 9:56 pm

Brad even looks good when he’s rockin’ the old man make-up! The trailer for Babel was more captivating then all of x’s movies combined.

Eager beaver @ 07/28/2006 at 10:12 pm

I would really like to watch this movie. Babel won the best director award in Canes Film Festival. It also won the Ecumenical Jury Award for Best Picture in Cannes.

Hey all,Where’s my Dog at is on MTV right now… the epi is called ‘The one about Jilted Jen’ or something like that. So far, Owen and Vince were passed out on a beach and decided to hit Vegas, but decided to leave the dogs for Jen. Matt LeBlanc is her butler. She’s so lonely, she decides to get a myspace-type page.

Innaritu on Babel and Brad PittAlejandro Gonzalez Innaritu’s third feature, following "Amores Perros" and "21 Grams," receives its world premiere as a competition entry at the 2006 Festival de Cannes. The film is as close to Esperanto, the acclaimed Mexican director says. At the center of "Babel," is the subject at the core of 21st century life: Lack of communication.Budgeted at $25 million, "Babel" was shot in three countries (Mexico, Japan, and Morocco) and in four languages: Those of the countries noted above and English, since the central protagonists are American: A San Diego married couple traveling in Morocco (played by Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett). Needless to say, the title refers to the biblical notion of people speaking different languages and unable to establish human communication. Biblical MotifOn a conventional level (and conventions are useful to tell stories) it can be said that "Babel" is about miscommunication. But for me, the story is about how vulnerable and fragile we are as human beings, and when a link is broken, it’s not the link that is rotten but the chain itself. The SubjectBabel is about people trying to communicate across barriers and borders of language in different positions in Third-World countries. I would not have conceived this personal idea without being a director in exile living five years in L.A. outside my country. How difficult it is to communicate. Ideas and prejudices divide us more than borders.Language BarriersThe film is not about the obvious definition of language barriers. You don’t have to be lost in the Morocco desert or in the middle of the Shibuya district to feel that you are isolated. The most terrifying loneliness and isolation is the one that we experiment with ourselves, our wives, and our children. The ScriptI started the script with Carlos Cuaron, brother of Alfonso, then invited Guillermo Arriago, who wrote the script for "21 Grams," to finish the script with me. I traveled to Japan, it was a circus of one year out of the country with my wife and two kids, now 11 and 8. It was a human transformative experience.Personal FilmBabel, like every film of mine, is a testimony of my point of view of life. Who I am, my weaknesses, and my virtues. I was throwing ideas into the script. I was traveling for one year. This was special to me. "Babel" is dedicated to my two children.Link with Previous FilmsFor the third time, I tell a story about parents and children. With "Babel," I wanted to explore the contradiction between the popular perception that this is such a small world with apparently so many new tools of communication and the equally strong sense that humans still can’t express and communicate with each other at the most fundamental levels.Film’s Title and ScopeI wanted to try to capture the whole idea of human communication—its ambitions, its beauty, and its problems—with one word. The title was picked after the screenplay was written. I considered so many different titles, but when I thought of the story of genesis, it made so much sense as a metaphor for the film. Each one of us has his own different language, but I believe we all share the same spiritual spine.Collaborating with ArriagaThe talent of Guillermo Arriaga (who also scripted "Amores Perros" and "21 Grams") is extraordinary. His writing is profound and powerful. He has been an amazing collaborator, carving out four narratives that unravel in three disparate parts of the world. The Japanese StoryThe Japanese story is kind of silent. The camera is on the deaf mute teenage girl, played by newcomer Rinko Kikuchi. Her father is the unbelievable actor Koji Yokusho. Origins of the Mexican StoryThe story is about a nanny taking care of two American kids (of the couple in Morocco) who has to cross the border. It’s a sad story inspired by a nanny working with me who told me so many sad stories. She is played by Adrina Barraza, who played the mother of Gael Garcia Bernal in "Amores Perros." Gael plays her nephew in this movie.Link among the StoriesThe three stories are related, but they are physically related only briefly, with just a touch. They take place over two days.Working with Star Brad PitBrad Pitt was a partner of Bard Grey at Plan B before landing the top position at Paramount, replacing longtime exec Sherry Lansing. Brad Pitt and Grey had a very good relationship, but Brad was attached to the film before we signed with Grey and Paramount. The whole experience was difficult and intense. Directing actors in another language is not easy. For the American couple (Pitt and Cate Blanchett) traveling through Morocco, who are in a sad, intense and personally emotional situation, Brad represented the type of American I needed for the story. However, it is not a n obvious choice and it’s not a characteristic Pitt role that the public is familiar with. Normally, in my casting choices, I go against what your standard instinct tells you. It’s because I believe art is a transformative experience. I envision Richard (Pitt’s character) as an icon of the all-American male, faced with trouble in a Muslim country today. Brad has not done this type of role before, and I felt it was a challenge and I was excited—and I think he was too—to transform him into a middle-aged man in crisis. Brad had to leave the "Brad Pitt" screen image behind and to become a more fragile man. He did an amazing job, and he gave me everything he had. http://emanuellevy.com/article.php?articleID=2600

BRAD LOOKS GOOD, SPORTING A BEARD. HE LOOKS GOOD IN THE MOVIE AS FAR AS THE PHOTO STILLS SHOWING HIS ACTING GOES.BRAD, MAYBE YOU SHOULD SPORT A BEARD MORE OFTEN IN REAL LIFE. (NOT THE WAY YOU DID IT LAST TIME, ALL LONG. KEEP IT SHORT).NOW THAT BRAD IS WITH AJ, I’VE FORGOTTEN HOW MUCH OF A GOOF BALL HE REALLY IS IN REAL LIFE. HE SEEMS SO SERIOUS & MORE CONSERVATIVE NOW, ESPECIALLY WITH HIS PHILANTHROPY.

ANISTON THE HAG! @ 07/29/2006 at 12:05 pm

I cannot wait to see it this autumn. I will definitely watch it the first release date. I am sure it is a very intense movie.

ROGEREBERT/babel

This movie looks awesome…I can’t wait. Could all the Stans in these threads that so have nothing to do with Angelina, Billy Bob or Jennifer Aniston please go get their own blog and stop taking up space on here.

From Hollywood Elsewhere"I loved seeing Babel again. I’m more convinced than ever that it’s going to do well with paying audiences over 25 or 30 because it’s about parenting and children, and who outside of childless singles doesn’t have strong feelings about that? Memories and worries and regrets to dip into? It sank in emotionally a little deeper because I saw it at home in a more settled frame of mind, and not in one of those cranked-up states that I’m always in during the Cannes Film Festival."

#6 true — eeewww, pls refrain from discussing your cream, kay?Brad looks like he’s sprouting a gin blossom — was that makeup too?crybabyaniston — why discuss JA and her ex-co-workers here?

No Hatin Me @ 07/30/2006 at 1:43 am

And, last thought to she who was blown away by AJ’s book, who would not have something affecting to say? However, when someone spends 36 to 48 hours ‘in the field’ at any location, how much are they roughing it? She has the nearest 5 star or equivalent before and after her day or day and a half at these ‘gigs’ — and I call them gigs cuz the bottom line is it’s all about elevating herself to a different level, especially when she seriously needed it cuz the goth thing was back-slipping for her big time.

No Hatin Me @ 07/30/2006 at 2:24 am

I’m creepy and a big fat loser.

Hehe…I know you are but what am I?Jared is that you? Or your alter-ego Cliniqua?

to friedaflo @ 07/30/2006 at 4:25 am

seriously, friedaflo, you’re an idiot

109 No Hatin meTHOSE WHO SAY ANGELINA IS ONLY DOING HER UN WORK FOR PUBLICITY SHOULD READ THE BOOK,so please don’t embrass yourself any more.To those people who want the truth not rumours, like myself I went and read the book and the reality is ANGELINA doesn’t as you say just go for 36 to 48hrs and she sleeps rough, where is she going to find a five star hotel in the middle of nowhere.I know you are full of hate and it makes you feel better to lie that ANGELINA is living it up when she is in refugee camps but on this one the book shows SHE IS WALKING THE WALK WITH OTHER AID WORKERS OUT THERE.If she is doing it because the goth thing was back firing as you say then I SALUTE HER AGAIN for knowing where to go because I SURE KNOW A LOT MORE NOW ABOUT REFUGEES THAN BEFORE and thank you Angie for that.

freidaflo @ 07/30/2006 at 7:54 am

112-Seriously , you lack reading comprehension. My post was #83You just showcased your IGNORANCE And LUNACY…Another one of those……hmmmm. Your BRAINLESS TACTIC is creepy.!!!

109- No Hatin meWhat I Like about your post is now that you know the book was before Brad and that Angelina was doing her UN work long before ,you have switched from your usual(she is only doing it to cover for taking someone else’s husband to the gothic thing was back firing so fast)which shows clearly that you didn’t care about Angelina’s fake UN work before Brad.We can see through all that ,you are trying to hang on to anything and you are now sinking deeper and deeper.SINCE THE APPOINTMENT AS A GOODWILL AMBASSADOR,ANGELINA HAS MORE THAN FULFILLED MY EXPECTATIONS.SHE HAS PROVEN TO BE A CLOSE PARTNER AND A GENUINE COLLEAGUE IN OUR EFFORTS TO FIND SOLUTIONS FOR THE WORLD’S REFUGEES.ABOVE ALL, SHE HAS HELPED TO MAKE THE TRAGEDY OF REFUGEES REAL TO EVERYONE WHO WILL LISTEN.ANGELINA’S INTEREST IN HELPING REFUGEES,HER PERSONAL GENEROSITY,AND HER TRULY COMPASSINATE SPIRIT ARE AN INSPIRATION TO US ALLRUUD LUBBERSU.N. HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR REFUGEESI choose to believe RUUD LUBBERS ,AID WORKERS AND REFUGEES on what they say about Angelina’s work because they are in a better position and they know what refugees need, and that ANGELINA and them are working towards that.
