If it weren’t for Brad’s strong Midwest values, he would have left a long time before he did. There are a LOT of men who don’t leave until they actually see that there is hope out there, after having met a woman they REALLY want to be with. It shakes them up to realize that no, this isn’t what a normal marriage is. You could see Brad’s values changing as he was married to jen, as he realized that the whole lifetime thing maybe wasn’t in the cards for him, that he couldn’t believe after seeing his parents’ marriage and his siblings that THIS was right, that it should take THIS much work, and maybe it wasn’t a real marriage for life. As soon as he met his true match, he knew that the separation they had manufactured to just get along was not going to cut it, either. They tried for a while longer, but then he was out of there and calling Angie to see if she felt the same way. Fanistons are as much in denial as those Claymates who turned on their boy when he was proven gay. It won’t be until Jen stands up and says she lied and manipulated Brad and all her fans for years that they might get a clue and we all know that ain’t happening.

No wonder he had so much fun shooting Ocean’s 11, when he could finally hang with fun, interesting guys like George Clooney and Matt Damon, and have fun with a chick like Julia Roberts who was so OVER being a movie star and had the acting chops to chew up Jen and spit her out. She went from an early career of real potential with an Oscar nom for Steel Magnolias even before Pretty Woman into a series of romantic comedies and "safe" roles, before branching back out and showing her mettle with Erin Brockovich, but you could tell she was getting bored with movies and wanted more out of life. I think that was also a turning point for Brad, seeing that here was a woman who had it all, and STILL could find time to make friends, family, etc a priority, and have fun, and laugh a lot, and not be jealous of every other woman around, and hang with the guys and not have to travel in a pack of girlfriends to feel secure. I think by Ocean’s 11, Brad was realizing he had made a mistake.I think when he made Snatch was another time when he just had fun, with Guy Ritchie, and realized that there was more to life than he was living. He could take a small role and make it the most memorable part of a movie, and laugh and hang out with guys that did more than talk about what to wear on a red carpet, strong people with opinions who took control of their lives, but maintained a sense of humor.
