Mel Gibson Mug Shot
Scope out actor-director Mel Gibson’s mug shot released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. This booking photo was taken early Friday after being arrested on drunken driving charges, making anti-Semitic remarks, and threatening a deputy law enforcement official. EKKS! Poor Mel!

Mel Gibson’s statement in full Gibson was arrested for drink-driving in California on Friday Actor and director Mel Gibson has apologised for the anti-Semitic words he used during his arrest for drink-driving. Here is his full statement: There is no excuse, nor should there be any tolerance, for anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of anti-Semitic remark. I want to apologise specifically to everyone in the Jewish community for the vitriolic and harmful words that I said to a law enforcement officer the night I was arrested on a DUI (driving under the influence) charge. I am a public person, and when I say something, either articulated and thought out, or blurted out in a moment of insanity, my words carry weight in the public arena. As a result, I must assume personal responsibility for my words and apologise directly to those who have been hurt and offended by those words. I know there will be many in that community who will want nothing to do with me, and that would be understandable The tenets of what I profess to believe necessitate that I exercise charity and tolerance as a way of life. Every human being is God’s child, and if I wish to honour my God I have to honour his children. But please know from my heart that I am not an anti-Semite. I am not a bigot. Hatred of any kind goes against my faith. I’m not just asking for forgiveness. I would like to take it one step further, and meet with leaders in the Jewish community, with whom I can have a one-on-one discussion to discern the appropriate path for healing. I have begun an ongoing programme of recovery and what I am now realising is that I cannot do it alone. This is not about a film - this is about real life and recognising the consequences hurtful words can have I am in the process of understanding where those vicious words came from during that drunken display, and I am asking the Jewish community, whom I have personally offended, to help me on my journey through recovery.Again, I am reaching out to the Jewish community for its help. I know there will be many in that community who will want nothing to do with me, and that would be understandable. But I pray that that door is not forever closed. This is not about a film. Nor is it about artistic licence. This is about real life and recognising the consequences hurtful words can have. It’s about existing in harmony in a world that seems to have gone mad. ******************Okay, just to show you - how objective I can be - and also how I, even moreso than some who proclaim to ‘practicing,’ religious folk - I have read Mel Gibson’s statement and want to say this.THERE IS HOPE FOR HIM.If he had NOT included what he had bolded I would have written him off TOTALLY, as he, even now, says he wouldn’t be surprised by.But we agree on a few points - that he needs to know where his hate comes from, and that he needs help in finding out..and also that yes, the world has gone Mad.If he does this right he could one day in the distant future, set an example about forgiveness and coming to terms with ingrained bigotry and hate taught to us by others. Basically, he needs to rat out his rat Dad. That’s where it started. So he needs to come clean right there…and oh yeah…when he finds the time…and if he thinks it’s IMPORTANT enough, address his sexist slurs as well….women are part of humanity too Mel.That is all the charity I’m will to extend to Gibson today. We’ll see if he’s serious in the coming days.
Typo - I have bolded that section of Gibson’s statement above. Not him.
Hi Dragonfly. Thanks so much for you thoughts. I never meant for anyone to think that anyone not Christian was bad, please let me make that clear right now. You’re points are well taken, and I thank you for them. I studied Islamic Law and History, so I appreciate all religions. I have visited many mosques and synagoes and have appreciated them all in their beauty and beliefs. I was raised Catholic and continue to practice, but I would NEVER think to say that my religion is better than anyone elses’, as I can go back to my religious history — The Crusades (and current) to not be so silly to say something like that. Gosh, sometimes I think it would be better to go back to the ‘gods’ way of thinking — Apollo, Zeus, Athina………..wasn’t that a better time? So much hate when ‘religion’ is concerned. Mohammed must be turning over in his grave to think the religion he started with such love people have turned into excuses to hate. I wanted so much to visit Iraq and see the museums they had on Islamic art, but then this jerk president of ours starts this war and all those beautiful things are lost. I’ve visited Turkey, Morraco, Egypt and have seen the wonders of those countries. NO, I would NEVER venture to say that non Christian beliefs are ‘dark side’, and if it came across that way, then please accept my apology. I love your statement ‘fluid in our thinking’. I so agree with that. Again, thanks!
Even Mel Gibson understands there’s no defense for what he did. At this point, that’s all that matters to me. I have always avoided religion and politics on blogs because frankly, it is one of the issues that people will never agree on.
For the first time i and african girl are agreed, religion and politics are thing that people will never agree on. For Mel i am agreed with Maria the real important thing was the drive drunken not the comments "racist"
AnonimoLol….for the first time? Oh c’mon….we must have more in common than this. So does this mean you’re not a BAMZS fan?
Maria, thank you so much for your thoughtful response! I really agree with you about the lost art and architecture in Iraq. Baghdad was once a cultural center since the ancient times and now it is a barren wasteland. It makes me very sad, especially since America had such a heavy hand in destroying it.I, too, feel that it would be wonderful to go back and reclaim some of the ideas of the Greeks. Their society was based on the idea of individualism and live and let live, vs. the Romans who were more about the team concept of divide and conquer….individual ideas did not matter.I think it is wonderful that you have studied other religions besides your own. My own mind really opened up once I started to do that. I think the fact that most Americans don’t take the time to do that is what keeps us all ignorant, hating, and afraid of each other. There are alot of people who feel that if they study another religion it will somehow weaken their faith, and there are even some clergy who discourage reading any "secular" literature. I feel that only good can come of expanded study, because either A) it will strengthen your existing faith, or B) it will possibly show you another path to God, and what’s wrong with that? Again, thank you!
Great photo of Mel on BuzzFoto. I think mel is a total ass for his comments and no amount of apology should ever help him.
YEAH! PARIS HILTON (ON VIDEO!!!!!!!!) CALLED TWO GUYS N****R.NO ONE SAID ANYTHING. NO PROTESTS. PEOPLE STILL INVITE HER TO THEIR PARTIES.MEL GIBSON SAYS ANTI-JEWISH WORDS AND THE WHOLE WORLD IS UPSIDE DOWN.INTERESTING HUH? PEOPLE ARE SUCH HYPOCRITES!
Here is a link that should give you pause re the Qana bombing:http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,,19955774-5007220,00.htmlHow come in all the things happening in Lebanon, nobody ever blames Hezbollah? Why is it always Israel’s fault when they fight back against its aggressors? Mel just echoed what most people here are thinking. But there’s something everybody should remember: The Jews are God’s chosen people. They’ve been on this earth even before the Christians, Budhists and Muslims were ever born. You just can’t wish them away or push them out to sea without incurring God’s wrath. Israel is their promised land. The Palis were never mentioned.
If an anti-Muslim comment was made - no one would bat an eye. There is an unfair way that racism towards Jews is given more attention than racism against other people like Blacks and Muslims.I agree with the poster above, I don’t see Hollywood up in arms and boycotting Paris Hilton for saying an anti-Black comment. She is a bigger star now than ever before. Hollywood is run by A rich Jewish community and they protect their interests at all cost.Racism of any kind is horrible but how hypocritical of Hollywood to be so angry at anti-Semitic comments a drunk dumb Hollywood actor makes but not be up in arms that innocent children and women were bombed and murdered by Israel this past Sunday (60 people so far! in one day).Shame on all of us.
And for all those bleeding hearts who think that Israelis are such monsters, read this:http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3284514,00.htmlWho are the monsters now?
# 104 | African Girl # 111 | Humans are Awful….ITA….to both of you# 110 | the real tita …no offense…but where it was say that the jews are the only children of God and israel is their land??? who wrote this story???are we, the non-jews, not children of God??i know he made a mistake by uttering those not-politically correct words and of him being drunk but you guys are comparing him to the hezbollahs??? if we think about what’s going on in the midddle east….who are at fault….is it only the hezbollahs?? not israel because they are the children of God???anyways…before this comes into a big argument…and i am not going to defend MG coz i know that what he did is wrong but making him a poster boy for anti-semitism is a bit much….imo
REAL TITA I AM JEWISH AND I AM APPALLED APPALLED BY YOU COMMENT THAT JEWSIH PEOPLE ARE "CHOSEN" PEOPLE"…CHOSEN BY WHOM? AND IF WE ARE CHOSEN, WHAT ABOUT OTHER RELIGIONS AND THE REST OF THE WORLD???? ARE OTHER PEOPLE NOT CHOSEN?THIS IS THE KIND OF MENTALITY THAT CREATES DIVISION, WAR, HATRED, INTOLERANCE - WHEN ONE PEOPLE ARE CLAIMED TO BE SUPERIOR THAN OTHERS BY SOME DIVINE ORDER.HERE ARE TRULY CHOSEN PEOPLE:MOHATMA GHANDI (NOT JEWISH)MOTHER THERESA (NOT JEWISH)NELSON MANDELA (NOT JEWISH)JESUS (JEWISH)THE WHITE CIVIL RIGHTS PROTESTERS (MANY JEWISH)MARTIN LUTHER KING (NOT JEWISH)BUDDHA (NOT JEWISH)PEOPLE ARE NOT CHOSEN BY GOD - PEOPLE CHOOSE GOOD. AND WHEN YOU CHOOSE GOD YOU FIGHT FOR HUMANITY, YOU CARE FOR HUMANITY, YOU STEP UP TO THE PLATE, YOU EMBRACE ALL KINDS. THAT IS A "CHOSEN" PERSON. IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE - WE ALL HAVE THE POWER IF WE WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD.ALSO, JEWISH PEOPLE WERE NOT THE FIRST PEOPLE ON THIS EARTH AS YOU CLAIM. BLACKK SOUTH AFRICANS WERE - IF YOU CHECK HISTORY YOU WILL FIND THIS AS FACT. AND THESE AFRICANS WERE PRACTICING RELIGIONS LONG BEFORE KNOWN RELIGIONS EXISTED.WE NEED TO OVERCOME THIS COCKY CLAIM THAT GOD ONLY SEES SOME OF US. ISLAM, JUDAISM, BUDDHISM, AFRICAN RELIGIONS, HINDUISM, CHRISTIANITY , NATIVE AMERICAN RELIGIONS - ALL OF THEM ARE VALID WAYS OF CONVERSING WITH GOD. HOW DO SOME HUMANS CLAIM TO CATEGORICALLY KNOW HOW TO GET TO GOD? NONE OF US KNOW. UNTIL THEN, STAY ON THE PATH OF GOOD AND NON-JUDGMENT AND WE WILL NOT FALTER.COMMENTS LIKE YOURS ARE AT THE BASE OF WARS AND HATRED. WARS START WITH SOMETHING THAT SMALL, YOU KNOW.NONE OF US ARE CHOSEN. WE ARE ALL GOD’S CREATION. AND MEL GIBSON’S COMMENT IS WRONG BUT SO IS IGNORING 60 INNOCENT CHILDREN AND WOMEN KILLED BY ISRAEL.THE JEWISH STATE OF ISRAEL KNOWS WHAT IT IS LIKE TO LOSE CHILDREN TO THE THIRD REICH DURING WWII, HOW COULD WE DO IT TO OTHER PEOPLE’S CHILDREN?TWO WRONGS DON’T MAKE A RIGHT.LISTEN TO AIR AMERICA RADIO ON THE AM DIAL. THEY AHVE GREAT PROGRESSIVE THINKING JEWISH FOLKS ON THERE WHO DO NOT SUPPORT THE KILLING OF INNOCENT LEBONESE IN THE NAME OF GOD.GOD NEVER KILLS HATEFUL HUMANS DO.
I am a Christian, and even though I don’t not agree with what Mel said at all I still forgive him for his actions and his awful behavior towards Jews. This is because he has asked for forgiveness. Unless any of you are able to walk on water, you should not be judging him. Look at your own lives and see if you have done something to deeply offend a religion, or race. I am pretty sure some of you have, maybe not to the extent that he has done. It might not have been directly towards the person of that religion or race but still people are affected. I am not condoning his behavior in the least, because I think that is awful what he did. As a Christian it is very disheartening that some people might think that all Christians have the tendency to act like Mel did, which a lot of them aren’t. He is human and does make mistakes. Mel has asked for forgiveness and I believe that those that do believe what he believes should forgive him. This does not mean forget. As for Hollywood, that is a whole different story. People in this business take controversy and keep hold of it until that person, in this case Mel, is crucified, which I think is incredible wrong. People are human and to expect them not to screw up is unrealistic as far as I am concerned. Think what you want but also keep in mind this. What if you, for whatever reason, did something to offend a religion, race, or whatever? Would you want people to crucify you or would you want forgiveness, if you asked for it. I am not trying to sound preachy but I am just saying what I truly believe.
Dragonfly. Thanks back at ya! When I was young I dreamed of seeing the pyrmids and visiting the Temple of Abu Simbel in Egypt. I told my priest that I wanted to visit Egypt. He told me to work hard, save my money and that one day my dream would come true. Well he was right. When I finally visited and stood in front of Abu Simbel, the tour director came and asked why I was crying. Well, I hadn’t noticed that I was crying. To see something that was built thousands of years ago, by people who worshipped ‘gods’ and not one god, was amazing. To be American is to understand that we come from all places — none of us are 100% American, as our families are all from somewhere else. Americans need to understand — as other countries that we must, and I say MUST try and understand those that are not like us. Religion, to me, at least, is something personal that should make us happy and fill our lives with wonder. We shouldn’t get on a horse and burn down buildings and kill children because we think ‘our’ religion is better — again, look at the Crusades. The Romans killed thousands of Muslims in the name of God. They killed children by slamming their heads against walls. IN THE NAME OF RELIGION!!! I’m Catholic, I love being Catholic, but I’m also not going to turn a blind eye to those in my religion who have done hateful things. This is why I think we all should go back to worshipping the ‘gods’. Apollo (for music), Diana (for the hunt), Athina (wisdom), Venus (love). HA! HA! You take care and let’s light a candle to ‘the gods’ to help us all understand those different than us better and love them the same. Isn’t that what religion teaches us?
114 | TO REAL TITAyour words i have touched my heart. They are very true and very well said. For african girl i am not bamzs fan but this here isn’t the point. This thread is for the arrest of Mel Gibson and his comments racist on the jews. Other celebrities are out from this thread. And jjoy you are right Mel isn’t hezbollah, he has wronged but he not use home civils how base to lunch missile in Israel, and however the war between Israel and the Hezbollah isn’t joined with this fact.
#113: jjoy, no offense taken. I’m a Catholic but I don’t think that you have to be Christian to be saved or be a child of God. However, I’ve always heard that thing about being the chosen by God and Israel as being the promised land. Not a big bible reader but I’m guessing it’s from the Old Testament. Maybe someone here on this thread is a Jew or knows history so they can explain it better.
This thread better post after post, i believe that is the first time from when i visit jj that in a thread i read every post without fell me bad. Thanks everyone for this.
# 117 | anonimo …i know…his situation is not related to what’s going on in that part of the world….his opinion is….he has his bias opinion/beliefs as all of us….but because he was in a limelight….some of us keep pummeling him until he hurts no more….except of course rachel green…i can pummel her till she’s gone in holly weird scene….i am not defending MG at all….we all make mistakes and he accepted that he made a mistake and he was blindly drunk….what can you expect from a drunk person???…lucidity??? that he is in his right mind??? cmon….anyways…i still like him….MG…be strong man….you still have me as your fan…so be it!!
#114: HEY, DON’T SHOUT AT ME! i AM NOT DEAF!If you’re a Jew, how come you are not appalled at what’s being said about your people? Did you just convert or are you for real the descendant of Jews? Geez, why don’t you feel for your country being targeted by every Muslim for extinction? What about the people and the children that have been killed in Israel? I think Mel is just echoing what a lot of people are thinking and he’s just being his father’s son who is a known Jew hater so I’m not going to defend him. But you are despicable than anybody here. You’re a Jew and yet you think it’s okay for Muslims to say death to you everywhere you go? Why don’t you just strap on a bomb like the suicide bombers and go detonate it at a marketplace in Israel. I’m sure your people will thank you for your sacrifice. *******!
# 118 | the real tita …thanks…we are cool then…i have no patience about politics and religion coz imo….both are the causes of war so this is my last comment about MG….still like him despite his bad/bias beliefs/opinions….i’m going to go to my fav thread….my chickie babe/bamzs…see you there!!!
I TYPE IN CAPS BECAUSE IT IS QUICKER FOR ME, IT IS NOT A SHOUT."#114: HEY, DON’T SHOUT AT ME! i AM NOT DEAF!If you’re a Jew, how come you are not appalled at what’s being said about your people? "———————–YOU CLEARLY ARE NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO THE MOST FAMOUS AND MOST FOLLOWED JEW IN THE WORLD.JESUS SAID : TURN THE OTHER CHEEK.HE SAID LOVE THY NEIGHBOR, LOVE YOUR ENEMY.YES, JEWS HAVE BEEN OVER TIME PERSECUTED. I HOPE OUR PERSECUTION DOES NOT BLIND US FROM UNDERSTANDING WHEN WE ARE WRONG.I SAW A GREAT BUMPER STICKER RECENTLY: "WHY DO WE KILL PEOPLE WHO KILL TO TEACH THEM THAT KILLING IS WRONG"BECAUSE I AM PROUD OF MY JEWISH HERITAGE, I EXPECT MORE FROM IT. I EXPECT ISRAEL TO ACT IN A MANNER OF PEACE AS MANY HAVE ACTED UPON US WHEN IT WAS TIME TO HELP US.I BELIEVE IN PEACE ALWAYS. JUST BECAUSE WE ARE BOMBED DOES NOT JUSTIFY US BOMBING.AMERICA WAS ATTACKED ON 911 (AWFUL) BUT I AND THOUSANDS OF OTHERS DO NOT CONDONE OUR KILLING OF INNOCENT IRAQUIS.MARTIN LUTHER KING AND GHANDI BELIEVED IN NON-VIOLENCE.I AM OFFENDED THAT YOU WOULD THINK BECAUSE I AM JEWISH AND A VICTIM OF HSTORICAL VIOLENCE THAT I CANNOT COMPREHEND THE BEAUTY AND GOODNESS OF NOT ATTACKING PEOPLE BACK.I BELIEVE IN PEACE AND NO WAR- AND ULTIMATELY THAT IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PART OF BEING JEWISH - THAT DESPITE IT ALL, I CAN STILL HAVE PEACE IN MY HEART.MY GRANDMOTHER WHO LOST HER FAMILY IN THE HOLOCAUST DOES NOT SUPPORT ISRAEL IN THIS EITHER. IF WE BECOME EXACTLY LIKE OUR ENEMY, THEN WE HAVE TRULY LOST.BOTH SIDES ARE WRONG.SO, DON’T YOU DARE!
CLINIQUA, I wasn´t equating anything here, that would be the most stuppid thing to do. People are different. The fact that you believe in the same god or belief doesn´t mean that you agree with everything.I was just wondering since someone said that the press in US is hiding important infomation about the situation in Israel. However I think it´s pretty insignificant who started the war. The situation is unbearable in both Lebanon and Israel. No one should underestimate their pain. Something has to be done, it´s been going on far too long. But I still think that Mel is a great artist and he has a point there…his last movie was a beautiful descripiton about Jesus and it sure made it clear how much he cares and loves each and every one of us. A simple piece of humanity.
You know when you read about this man’s background it’s pretty amazing he’s been this successful - considering his Dad and the actions he took with his family showed no character. I think that’s what drives Gibson to do a lot of what he does - he wants real meaning in his life - and he’s trying to obtain it by being very religious, being patriotic (to America), being very macho with the war movies (The Patriot, Unknown Soldier, etc. ) and the homophobia…but in reality his very existence is the exact opposite, his father packed up his family and left his own country - a very cowardly, squirrely and unpatriotic thing to do — Mel was a man essentially without a home, neither American really, nor Australian, plus the shame of skipping out when your country is at war - all of that drives him to be the ‘BIG MAN’ he wants to be, but never has been. I think religion is his refuge, as is being a prolific father - but at the end of the day, you are your experiences, and his unfortunately, involved his family running like scaredy cat little UNpatriotic jackrabbits so as to not get drafted. Can you imagine - what if everyone did that? LOL That shows a true lack of integrity and character - it’s not Mel’s fault - but it’s what he was brought up, running from - the shame of that. It scarred him, I’m sure. I think more than anything he ACTS OUT and AGAINST this stigma. That’s what his whole life has been about. If he could somehow tell HIS story and how that has damaged him and shaped him - how one man’s lack of integrity and hate has ruined his own child…it might be a worthwhile endeavor.
