# 2165 | Cher | Philanthropy is not a flash in the pan occurence; humanitarians are humanitarians for life and not for the moment to improve their image. We have to wonder whether this couple is sincerely devoted to humanitarian efforts or just trying to discourage the focus of the public to the fact that Mr. Pitt left his wife for Ms. Jolie and impregnated her out of wedlock. Time will tell whether we are witnessing a brand of moral grandstanding by these celebrities.My dear Cher, would you consider Bill and Melinda Gates to be philantrophists and humanitarians? When did you consider them to be philantrophists? From about 2001 or 2002 or don’t they count as philantrophists yet?You may be interested to know, that prior to the establishment of the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, neither Bill Gates nor his wife were exactly well known in philantrophy and charity. Bill had actually be criticised by Ted Turner (Jane Fonda’s ex) in 1997 for not donating more to charity. Bill wasn’t that interested at that time coz he was more interested in preserving the monopolistic position of Microsoft. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation was established in 2000 with seed funding of a mere $106 million dollars (at that time Bill was the RICHEST MAN on earth valued at more then U$50m remember those good old internet bubble days??). The Foundation has of course grown significantly since that time. However, by your count, it is not the amount of money that matters but the LENGTH OF TIME someone has been involved in Charity. So, Bill Gates have been involved in philantrophy for about 6 - 7 years. By that measure alone, Angelina Jolie must be coming close. According to the UNHCR website, Angelina has been representing UNHCR since early 2001. So, in another 6 months of so, she would have been actively engaged in philantrophy for 6 - 7 years too. Is she a humanitarian and philantrophist then?? And if one were to measure it as a percentage of the age of the person, Bill Gates is 51 years old and has therefore been involved in charity for about 11% of his life. Angelina is a mere 31 years old and to date, has been involved in charity for about 18% of her life. When will you acknowledge her humanitarian efforts have definitely NOT been a flash in the pan.Now there is Brad Pitt. I’m not sure when he became involved in the One organisation or DATA but let’s say he started in 2005, then I guess, he does have another 5 -6 years to go. But during that time, can you withhold judgement? Cher, Brad and JA split up. But you don’t know why they did. However, much you would like it to be true, that Brad left JA for Angelina, you don’t know it is true. That’s the same as my saying, however much I think JA and Brad split up because JA DID NOT WANT TO START A FAMILY YET I don’t know its true. One of the fascination of this break up has been that the real reason has never been revealed by either Brad or JA. You think it must be because of Angelina coz, look, that’s where Brad ended up. I can equally think its because JA would not agree to starting a family within an agreeable time frame and look, Brad is now with a family and JA may or may not be, dating a man who has PUBLICLY declared 3 months or so ago on OPRAH (no less) that he isn’t into having children just yet and hasn’t talked about it with JA whom he may or may not be dating but is definitely not engaged to. You don’t know anymore then I do. The difference between you and I though is that you will make judgments and conclusions about something you don’t know and I would rather withhold judgment.

sorry..I meant doesnt People have a higher circulation - 4.2 millions.Not matter how mad you are Ritzy of Brad dumping your girl - Jen - he went to the better woman and magazine to show his baby and let someone else profit from it - charity and People as they were GOOD to him.

# 2211 | circulation Doesn’t matter. Vanity Fair is more of an elitist, artsy, classy magazine. INDUSTRY people pay more attention to Vanity Fair than they do to People.Plus, there is an interview with Tom & Katie when there were just a few pics with B&A and a couple of quotes from Haven & Marcheline. Overall, their spread trumps B&A’s spread, and that’s an objective look.Now my hope is that whatever these pics are of B&A and family on the beach, that they prominently show Shiloh because that could cut into the whole Suri hoopla.

I am only talking about the quality of the spread. I know that People has a wider circulation. I am saying that to go to VF, have AL take the shots, get no money for them but at the same time get much better quality, only makes him look better in the context of everything that has happened lately. The media will report that he got no money for the pics. All of his friends will ride this issues coattails to say how great and noble he is for not getting money and play up the fact that he has a cute kis.This is so WIN-WIN for him.That’s all i’m saying. Right now, the masses don’t matter. What matters is his standing in Hollywood and this VF spread will help him.
