Gwyneth Fights Aids in Africa
Gwyneth Paltrow was spotted shopping at Prada yesterday afternoon, using her new charge card, the American Express Red Card, which donates a percentage (1%) of every purchase to fight AIDS in Africa. AmEx red card donations go to Global Fund-financed programs in Africa which positively impact the lives of women and children affected by HIV/AIDS. More pictures in the gallery!

Lame. Polly is right, why not pass on the $300 shirt and just doante instead of pretending not to be a staged ad for AMEX and Prada? She looks like a tool doing this.
Of course she is showing the card on purpose, but not neccessarily to make herself look good. She problably is well aware that celebrity helps sell product. Many Brits may see Gwyneth with a card like this one and say, “gosh I should get one too”. A $300 donation would do very little to solve world poverty. The American Express red card, if adopted throughout England however, would have an unprecedented impact. There’s power in numbers, and that’s exactly what she is doing by so blatantly showing the card.
I for one am glad she showed the card, I had never even heard of it until I saw it here today. Someone has to get the word out, might as well be her. So complain all you like, because if you hadn’t I wouldnt even know what the red card meant and a lot of other people probably wouldnt either.

How do any of you know that she doesn’t do more pilanthropically than just use this card? You’re criticizing her for doing what is just one of the many things she probably does, so quit being so judgmental. How much do each of you give annually? Plus, if she spends 1 million a year with the card, AmEx gives $10,000. Add that to all the others who use it and that’s money going to a cause that would otherwise be going only into the pockets of retailers.

EDUCATE YOURSELF before you go slamming people. She is doing it to get other people to do it — because that’s how EVERY LITTLE BIT makes a difference…. and i agree with JULES, above -
I have a friend who is helping run this campaign and it is set up in an amazing way for the average person — who normally wouldn’t go put $ into a charity — can do their part — it’s a great way to help without it interfering in the average person’s financial life.
so that’s why she is holding it that way to raise AWARENESS.
like JULES said above, 10,000 for every million — that can do so much for starving, sick people and unhealthy living environments, housing, education.

Well of course she’s showing it off, she’s trying to advertise the card so more people can use it and then more money will be donated.
the amex red card is actually not that uncommon in britain and has been viewed as a socially conscious status symbol as an alternative to the decadent status symbol the black card implies; if it were to be introduced in the U.S., I am sure that you’d see many more celebrities sporting it in order to either improve their public image or to genuinely promote the charity involvement of the card. If you are going to use a credit card, why not use one that gives a portion to charity if you can afford to give up your own airline points?
Refusing to be upstaged by mega-philanthrope Angelina, Gwyneth generously donates 1 dollar with that 100 dollar blouse she just purchased. Gywneth, while an inspiration, your butt is still gigantic, and you are hands-down the most overrated actress in the history of Hollow-wood.
Well, I happen to love Gwyneth. Better to donate 1% than nothing at all. Flawed logic dictates that it must be all or nothing. It’s much easier for one to sit back and criticise celebrities about not doing enough to help those less fortunate than it is for such a person to actually DO something him/herself. Those who are not famous use the excuse prefer to leave all the “do-gooding” to those with wealth and fame - that’s no excuse, despite what you may believe.
That said, the picture of Gwyneth is a bit comical! I mean really, when’s the last time any of us poor slobs bought PRADA?
Oh, and one more thing. I much prefer Gywneth over Angelina any day! Angelina is a bit harsh/rough, whereas I like Gwyneth’s image better. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I realise! I also think Gwyneth looks even more beautiful after marrying Chris Martin and becoming a mother - she looks relaxed and comfortable in her skin - love that!
