Angelina Jolie Does Charitable Work

There was a supposed rift between Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman after Scotland’s Daily Record quoted Kidman as saying, “It’s not like Angelina is any better than a nurse working in a hospital, but she’s getting the publicity for her contribution.”

Yesterday, The Daily Record admitted that Kidman never said those things about Angelina and apologized for “any upset caused.” Instead, Kidman’s publicist, Catherine Olim did release a statement on behalf of Nicole Kidman:

Ms. Kidman has tremendous admiration for Angelina Jolie and her tireless, worldwide charitable work, as well as for the work of countless less well known volunteers in areas of need around the world.”

Pictures in this entry include Angelina Jolie driving around Los Angeles this past Friday, September 15. More pictures in the gallery!

LONDON– Victoria and David Beckham have been named Britain’s “yummiest mummy” and “dishiest dad” in a survey for baby food company Avent.

The Daily Mirror reported the 32-year-old mother of three and her 31-year-old soccer star husband were voted the sexiest celebrity parents in the 2,000-person survey for their ability to be “nurturing, hands-on, often seen out with the kids — and still sexy.”

While the former Posh Spice edged out English journalist Nigella Lawson for the top spot on the mothering countdown, her husband came in just ahead of Hollywood actor Brad Pitt for his fathering duties, the report said.

Rounding out the top 5 in the dishiest dad competition after Beckham and Pitt was celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, TV star Jonathan Ross and recent father Tom Cruise.

The newspaper said while Victoria and Lawson enjoyed their top two spots on the female side of the survey, they were directly followed by screen actress Angelina Jolie, author Jools Oliver and cinema star Kate Winslet.

he’s in an ensemble, but he’s the standout. he’s done quality work before and he has AOJJ coming out too which he’s supposed to be good in (anybody see a trailer?). all that works in his favor. not to mention the ratings the awards show will get because he’s nominated. they’ve probably got him on the ballot already. for that matter, angie’s probably locked in, too.

I haven’t seen the Last King of Scotland yet (wasn’t able to make it to TIFF) but from what I’ve read Whitaker’s performance is a lock for Best Actor (and yes I know there aren’t really locks but he got a lot of buzz in Toronto).

so let’s look at the actions:
brad pursued angelina (and maddox)
brad traveled with angelina all over the world (and vice versa)
brad divorced jennifer - after deciding that this one will give him kids NOW DAMNIT!!!

brad adopted angelina’s children, got her pregnant and they tried to tell everone that they at this point have no carnal knowledge of each other. Which only the BRANGELOONIES BUY TO THIS DAY!
Since then all is well for the brood - they play HOUSE whenever he is available - when he can fit it in to his schedule - hhhmmmm - maybe Jen knew he would be like this?
Brad now feels that he has to “give something back to the poor” all of a sudden - has to save face because Angie the saint has a rep to keep up ya know!

i love forest whitaker! do you remember if he got anything for the crying game?

She looks good. I think she should get a nice sports car for when she’s not driving around with the kids.

Who kicked your cat? Anywho, you bore me.

Back to Brad and the oscars. I’m just happy he’s doing quality work again for him to even be considered for a possible nomination. The generated buzz about his performance isn’t coming from his pr team but from credible critics and that must make him proud.

169 | maggiethecat

you write fiction better than i do. have you ever considered a career in tabloid reporting?

i am, too. he’s making movies i would PAY to see. thank heaven babel is coming out soon. i’m just itching to see that. not so much jesse james–but i’ve never been in to the whole outlaw/western thing anyway. the only one i like is the good, the bad and the ugly.

is anybody else wondering about benjamin button? that one sounds REALLY interesting. i’m tempted to read the book.

I adore Forest Whitaker and no he wasn’t nominated for an oscar or any other major award, as far as I know, for the Crying Game. All the attention went to Stephen Rhea and Jaye Davidson who both gave stand out performances imo.

140 | CLINIQUA - Oscar campaigning may be “unseemly” but its necessary. Its not like political campaigining, but its more like the number of public appearances that he goes to, the number of “luncheons” and other such events. Even just seeing Brad “out and about” might be considered campaigning. Campaigning also entails the big splashy “for your consideration” ads in the trades (Variety and The Hollywood Reporter) that I’m sure Paramount will put out for Babel and for Brad in the film. Its a necessary evil in Hollywood, unfortunately.

maggie the cat’s just pissed that brick won’t give her any lovin’ and he’s overly fascinated by his dead friend skipper. i’d be uptight, too if my man were gay and in love with a corpse.

forest doesn’t spend enough time in front of the camera anymore. and he hasn’t been doing that great behind it (first daughter, anyone?). but he’s such a good actor. i really hope what you’re saying is true and that this is his year. if forest gets an oscar, then we have to work on getting don cheadle his props.

Brad sees more of his kids than many executives, cops and firefighters do. Should those folks in public service quit so they can be home? According to reports, the nights he isn’t home he calls and he also does iPod reports for them. I dont’ think he left Jen because he wanted kids NOW. I think after seven years of her saying “not right now dear” - he felt it wasn’t ever going to happen! He is happy. Angie is happy. The kids are happy. And Jen says she is happy. If she is your idol, then why don’t you accept the fact that they are no longer a couple and get on with your life like JA has? There were problems in the marriage for a couple of years according to the hollywood rumor mill. They were miles apart in what they wanted from life. Now they can go their separate ways and be happy.

170|gitane
I don’t think Forest Whitaker was nominated for Crying Game. However, I am pretty sure he was nominated for Bird - if you remember the amazing biopic about jazz trumpet player Charly Parker. I saw the movie when it came out long time ago, and still remember his wonderful performance!

Brad, Angelina, Jen & Vince are all kosher alright?
No hard feelings on all sides I’m sure. I hope they will all pose together on the red carpet so that all of this Jen talk will finally stop among BAMZS fans. Although I’m sure many will stoop low as to start comparing who looks the nicest, etc… Damn, it will never end.

Any way OT:

You make it sound like Brad and Angie are the Big Bad Wolf that
no one wants to piss off because they’ll be vindictive! Nicole
Kidman was so adamant in her defense of Angie because she
ADMIRES Angie, not because she’s afraid of her!

And the stupid person who said Angie’s overrated obviously has
NO idea what Angie does in comparison to the others doing
charitable work. So many remind me of the rich people at the
fundraising dinner in the beginning of Beyond Borders, willing to
dress up, go to a ball, write a check, but so unwilling to really learn
about the issues, devote time and energy and blood, sweat, and
tears to helping, and using the glare of the media spotlight to talk
about something other than their personal lives.
Nicole is smart, and like Angie, has adopted multi-cultured kids,
and has NEVER used them the way her ex has. I’m sure she has a
lot in common with Angie despite their personalities being so
different, and would get along terrifically and inspire each other.

Are the “Smiley’s” gone? If not, how do you get them in a post?

Nicole did make those remarks.

She made them in an interview with a U.K. magazine called Red in the October issue:

“While she knows that her celebrity status is a powerful tool, Nicole doesn’t believe actresses like her and Angelina Jolie should get extra points for doing ‘the right thing’. “It’s not like Angelina is any better than a nurse working in a hospital, but she’s the one getting the publicity for her contribution, ” she explains. “I have a friend who is a doctor, and every year he works in Africa for two months receiving no payment. So everyone is on the same playing field, whether you offer your services as the doctor or as Angelina does.”

So how can Ms. Olim say that Nicole never said that? Yes, she didn’t say it to that newspaper but she did say it to Red Magazine. And why did she think it was OK to drag Angelina into this, why not just use herself as an example? Nicole’s PR people have lied saying she never made these comments in order to do damage control for their client.

The one that I heard of is Helen Mirren for Queen. She just won Best Actress in Venice, and the word is - she is amazing as Queen Elisabeth 2nd.

btw, who’s getting the buzz for best actress this year?
183 | gitane

Right now I’d say some of the nods will go to a at least 3 people on this list

Helen Mirren/Queen
Kate Winslet/Little Children
Penelope Cruz/Volver
Meryl Streep/Devil Wears Prada (if she goes lead)
Annette Benning/Running w/Scissors (if she goes lead)
Judi Dench/Notes on a Scandal
Cate Blanchett/Notes on a Scandal or The Good German

COLD HARD MATH @ 09/19/2006 at 3:39 pm

but I think he’s at the point in his life if it happens, great - if not, his life is still fantastic w/ his babies and Angie in it, along with projects that mean something to him.

140 | CLINIQUA |

ITA. But an OSCAR nomination, and possibly winning, It would be nice.

COLD HARD MATH @ 09/19/2006 at 3:41 pm

THE DEPARTED looks good too. Sean Penn, is getting a lot of buzz. So is the movie, BOBBY.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! i’m loving the story so far. i love f. scott fitzgerald’s style. his word choice always floors me. and this story has a touch of humor. right up braddy’s ally.

Nicole didn’t make those remarks. Red took them from the newspaper. It is kind of like a upscale Star or In Touch. They cut and paste quotes. You can bet the Kidman camp will go after Red now. I am a real Kidman fan and she has never said anything negative about anyone–even her looney-toons ex-Tom. Furthermore, Nicole has said that she and Brad are friends and I have a hard time believing she would say something that would hurt him. She also has expressed great admiration in interviews for Angie. So, if I were you, I’d read with a CRITICAL mind instead of a mind like a sheep following the herd. Have you ever seen a copy of Red? It isn’t the New Yorker you know. It is more like some of our low end gossip/fashion rags.
