Jolie/Pitt Foundation Formed
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have formed the Jolie/Pitt Foundation to aid humanitarian causes around the world. The newly formed charitable foundation is giving away $1 million to the Global Action for Children and $1 million to Doctors Without Borders, to help families affected by HIV/AIDS and extreme poverty.
The U.S. director for Global Action for Children, Jennifer Delaney, said: “Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt not only care, but more important, are taking concrete action to address the fact that there will be 20 million children orphaned by AIDS by 2010, and millions more orphaned by tuberculosis, malaria and conflict or whose parents are sick and dying.”
The couple’s spokesman, Trevor Neilson, released a statement saying: “Angelina and Brad are committed to using their resources to help the world’s most vulnerable people. These two organizations are focusing on crises that receive far too little attention and Angelina and Brad are happy to do their part to help.”
And here’s a list of Brad and Angelina’s Banksy art purchases:
- $226,000: The “Picnic” painting depicts a white family of four merrily lunching under an umbrella on a red checked blanket while 15 starving Africans - including several children with distended bellies - look on.
- $75,000: A white bust with a bleeding bullet hole in the forehead - was a particular favorite of Jolie’s. “She went nuts for that one,” an onlooker told the mag. “She told [her baby daddy], ‘I must have that one.’”
- $75,000: Portrait of a man hit in the head with a custard pie.
UPDATE :: Added pictures in the galllery of the aforementioned Banksy art that Brad and Angelina purchased. Thanks, Susanne!

Having a foundation is better becuase it is more organized. If they already have numerous humanitarian projects, which is still growing, I believe it is best to put them all together under a foundation that can keep track of them. I am happy and thankful that they are trying to help others. May God bless them and their fans.

Beautifully said. No matter what they do, they’re gonna ge criticized. It’s a good thing they don’t allow these people affect them…..they just go on with their lives.
#712 / Bleh
You made me laugh. How pray tell do you know that it was in a manic state they decided to donate? Or is that how you would do it? You’d have to be crazy to help others right? Well now it all makes sense, no wonder some of you have a hard time wrapping your heads around the idea that some people just want to help…..not because they’re crazy but because it is the Right/Good thing to do.
God appreciates a person’s dollar gift more than a huge gift for the wrong reasons, you say. Well, thank God he is the only one who knows who does what and for what reason. So except you’re him, you shouldn’t be justifying you disdain with that.
They shouldn’t advertise it you say. So tell me, how would you respond to those people who made a big deal…just yesterday mind you, about not knowing where all the money from the pictures went. “Which Charity did they give it to” they demanded “How come we never heard anything” they huffed and puffed. Again, I ask…..How would you, BLEH, respond?
I applaud anyone who gives anything…be it 10%, 1% or .1%. Giving is giving and everything will….big or small is always appreciated.
From where I stand, knowing about the causes a someone supports is a good thing. It gives us an inkling into who they are. In the case of someone famous, it is better because these cause can get the exposure they need. There are over 10 thousand causes out there, some of which are slowly dying because they don’t have a face….they don’t have a voice. So when celebs embrace a cause, they become a voice for these people, others here about it, are moved to find out more and even donate (time, money or both). You say Ms. Aniston probably donates….probably being the operative word there because you don’t know for sure. I’m just going to leave it at that.
We are disgusting? Well, what about you? Let’s see, from you post, You have positioned yourself as Judge, Jury, Mind reader and let’s not not forget, the Almighty God. Tell me again who is more disgusting, people who appreciate others help or someone who thinks they are God?
#3o6: maria, okay. no more politics. We are here because of AJ and BP and we have enough haters to contend with without us bickering amongst each other.
Gotta go. See you guys tomorrow.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us in NYC.
Yes, the subway shutdown was HORRIBLE. I had many students
who live up in Inwood and all they had was ‘A’ trains. And I also
have a friend who worked for a daycare around Wall street, and on
9/11 one little girls’ parents both didn’t come back… it was so
heart breaking… I admired your NGO work so much. I can’t
imagine the magnitude of devestation people suffered
psychologically and still are suffering from 9-11. As for the
blackout, I can’t also imagine how scary it must have been for
home-bound elderly. I was only pregnant but still had two able
feet to get me where I wanted to go. I share with you your
admiration for Jolie how she turned her young life around to put
herself to good use, without hesitation. For that I truly believe
she deserves the highest honor… I will tell you this–I sincerly
hope Brad Pitt lives up to his apparent promise and be a
deserving husband/partner to her, supporting her life and causes
as he so far has proven himself.

Are you seriously going to start me on French food? :)
My husband’s theory is that, if French, and not English, had
colonized America, the current USA would have had MUCH better
American food LOL!! Of course he is biased. Well actually my
mother-in-law is a big Anglo-file and she loves England, was an
English teacher in Paris, and now she knows much more about
NYC than I do. So there. But yes French everything tastes so
good. When I brought my husband to live here, the first thing I
did was to take him to Zabars cheese section. I led him by the
hand and showed him, “There, there. Here is your Camembert du
lait cru, so you will be a-OK!!” LOL!
Erm….I think they have a foundation so that they can put money they want to give away someplace safe. That they have an advisor, one who is well known in charitable circles, shows that they intend to be informed about where/who they donate to and not just throw money at a problem. For example, sometime within the past few years, Angie donated sewing machines to a village. She didn’t just give those people some fish, she taught them HOW to fish!
21 | so right - I DO hope you were being sarcastic. Why not the US? Because we are a wealthy country. We have the ability to care for our own. That we don’t is the fault of the VOTERS of this country. Additionally, if we don’t care about those who are left behind INTERNATIONALLY, they will someday come to resent us and we will pay with violence. I don’t know about you, but I am thankful every day that there are people like Brad, Angie, Dr. Sachs and many others who counter the “Ugly American” image our leaders have given so many.
24 | kinju - you are right. And WE ALL need to start writing our Senators and Congresspeople about that too. Please remember, when they DO photoshoots with “poor black kids” they very often DO visit the area again [Brad was revisiting when Diane Sawyer interviewed him in Ethiopia]. AND those photoshoots make others aware of the kids’ plight.
32 | Be sane BRAVA! WELL SAID
33 | Meli BRAVA to you too Meli! What Mr. Bush has squandered in his “little Iraqi adventure” could have solved the poverty problem in the US for generations. What am I saying, the Haliburton investors HAVE no more money problems thanks to that!
41 | julia - Did it say anything about Brad? That would be interesting…..WOW
46 | Early AM Poster - Thank you for the information on the Global Action For Children. Prior to yesterday, I knew nothing about it. Thanks to Brad and Angie [and you] now I do.
47 | Peaches You are on a roll! Keep it up. Nice to meet you by the way. Clinton just announced 3 BILLION for fighting Global Warming! WOW
53 | Maria - I know exactly what you mean! I have other internet obligations that I now chaffe at to get to JJ’s! I’ve met so many wonderful people here, and learned so many interesting things. I’ve also seen some really ugly people, but, together, we manage to beat them back, and that in itself is an accomplishment. Have a SUPER vacation and hurry back to us ok?
STELLA AND SARAH - yep, that’s it - they really put in 10 mil and are only ever in their lives going to give away 2 mil. STFU and go away ok? Foundations are still liable to prove they have spent their monies responsibly. I’d rather give my money to the Jolie-Pitt foundation than a lot of “charities” that spend 3/4 of the donations on “management”.
69 | CLINIQUA *stands up, lighter lit in hand* BRAVA Cliniqua! You tell the idiots! Just saw Congressman Ryan on Olbermann [looked like he was addressing an empty House] we are spending 8 BILLION a MONTH in Iraq! But, that’s okay, at least he didn’t dirty up a blue dress……………………….
RE: 115 | sarah - I think I finally understand. You project what YOU would do if you were in their shoes. YOU would lie and ***** your way around. YOU would do everything you could to make yourself look better - which means you don’t think much of yourself now. Think about it you all. It makes sense. She refuses to tkake what they SAY and DO, but insists on attributing ulterior motives to it all. Since she has thrown down the gauntlet by stating that she will come and be negative “every chance I get”, all bets are off. All gloves off. Cliniqua, she’s all yours.
165 | marina - now listen, aside from the FACT that the vials were LOCKETS……..the word is spelled V.I.A.L not vile [which I assume is what the rest of your post was full of comment wise, I just can't read anymore from people who not only get their facts wrong but spell it wrong too!
167 | Amaya - I think FIGHT CLUB for me too is when I realized he wasn't just another pretty face, but it took MAMS to drive me wild. The X factor you know.......
169 | lylian - Yeah, I agree, Bill Clinton ruined it for himself. Isn't that just so sad and mythic? I'm a VERY liberal Democrat. I thought Clinton was too conservative. I USED to respect McCain UNTIL he not only supported, but hugged and did photo-ops with Bush after Bush's people slandered his wife, his children and him. Maybe it's the Italian in me, but Bush and his people went way personal to "get" McCain and McCain not only let him, but backed him enthusiasticly. I think he's gonna cave on the torture issue too.
180 | guess - WRONG! But alll WRONG, so you do get 100% - it's just 100% WRONG. Zahara's mother is dead and Angie didn't buy Mad and BB left her because he didn't want an adopted child, he wanted to be a rock and roller at the time. Thanks for playing our game, but we have no consolation prize for total losers
190 | bdj - CONGRADULATIONS on a wonderful post and the CORRECT use of the word VILE! I wish I had a prize to give you. I just can't stand the incorrect usage coupled with the incorrect information from ignorant people.
273 | Maria - I live "upstate" now, but when I graduated from college, I worked on the 82nd floor of the "Twins". I had just had carpel tunnel surgery, and was at home because of it when my husband called from his car saying "turn on the TV a plane just hit the WTC" I don't think we turned off the TV for a week! That April, some friends and I had rented a limobus and gone to the city to see some Greek statues at a museum and we drove by them. I showed my daughter, and told her what it was like to work there.........5 months later.....My heart still breaks.
281 | CLINIQUA - WHEW! I wanted to say that and didn't know just how. Thanks darlin' - even if you get flack for it, know I really appreciate it. I tend to foam at the mouth when I try to list my problems with the idiot in chief. - SOMEDAY the TRUTH will come out, and that stain on the blue dress will look like the nothing it was compared to the lying, cheating and outright thievery going on today. Don't get me started on mixing religion with politics - just let me say.... TALIBAN. *shudders* BEWARE DRY DRUNKS
285 | the real tita - the problem comes with what some say is needed for "national security". If it means tapping a phone or computer without a court warrant. FORGET IT! If we give up what makes this country free, are we this country anymore? I don't think so. If it means waterboarding to get information. FORGET IT. According to a lot of experts, all torture gets you is false information anyway. If it means giving the same amount of money for security to Montana as New York, FORGET IT. The risks arent' the same in both places. The problem is, we aren't even allowed this debate without being declared "soft on terr'ism". Back in the day, the Washington Post was praised for breaking Watergate; today the NY Times is damned for breaking information on all the illegalities the Bush Administration has done under the name of National Security.
And, yes, Bush makes us bow to HIS religion by refusing Stem Cell Research, Abortion information and Birth Control information here and abroad. Some think he is trying to bring about the "end days" his particular brand of religion believes in so much. So, yes, he IS forcing religion on us.
Did you by any chance watch the abortion that ABC showed about 911? Your post #309 is full of the same crap it was. FACT: The Clinton people warned the Bush people about Bin Laden and they purposely DID NOTHING. Richard Clarke tried to get Rice to take an interest in AlQuada.......NOTHING. Bush received the briefing "BinLaden interested in flying planes into buildings" NOT Clinton.....Bush did NOTHING. Please, don't blame 9-11 on Clinton. He was called names for trying to get BinLaden [Wag the Dog] when he tried to hit him. Just don’t go there. Bush LIED us into a war in Iraq. There were NO WMDs, no nukes, and I believe [as do many others] HE KNEW IT. American men and women, Iraqi men, women and children are DEAD because of him. THOUSANDS of Americans are coming home, injured in body and mind, and just as quickly forgotten. We are spending BILLIONS we don’t have for what? AlQuada WAS NOT IN IRAQ UNTIL WE WERE! We have lost the respect of the rest of the world because of this pseudo cowboy and his crew. Time will proove this the most corrupt administration ever.
312 | Bleh - I’m sorry, I must have missed something - jsut WHAT did Brad and Angelina do to Jennifer Aniston?
By the way Richard Branson announced today that he too will donate millions to a worthy cause in much the same way as his peers Warren Buffett and Bill Gates.
Naysayers: The floor is open for vigorous debate about how phony this is. I await a rebuttal.

Have seen the Washington Mutual Commercial where witnessing one good act leads to another? A man witnesses another help an
older man, which moves the witness to hold the elevator for another woman, this act is witnessed by another person and he goes out and does something good…..and on it goes. They call this act of kindness responsibility. I agree….we all have a responsibility to our fellow man. I can already see the domino effect from witnessing the JP’s and every other famous’ act of of Kindness.
I just saw the preview of TGS on ET and all I have to say is WOW, that is one very good movie, I can’t wait to see it.
Julie, I carry an aussie passport, culturally Eurasian Chinese and
am an expatriate who have been around. I’m a beneficiary and
believer of globalization, I enjoy diversity and that’s my one worry
about globalization. I would hope many of these subcultures can
adapt to a globalization, retain the essence even whilst wearing
blue jeans☺

Malibumom, I HAD TO come out of my lurkdom to totally agree with you on this issue!
I think its great that they donated any money at all. Any money is better than no money which is what alot of celebrities choose to do. But, I do not care for the Pitt/Jolie pair. I of course always viewed Angelina as a great actress and very beautiful but crazy.. Its no lie.. everyone knows… she is alittle on the loco side but the beautiful ones such as Angelina usually are. I think when Brad dumped his wife to run off with Angelina left a bad taste in my mouth and the pair all together. People divorce everyday and Im not commenting on the actual act of divorce Im talking about the way it was handled and flaunted in Jen’s face.
So now Brad can have a crazy “pretend wife” and his beautiful child with his crazy “pretend wife” and buy so called priceless art for the benefit of the less fortunate. Kudos to them both but.. Brad is doing whatever his pretend wife is telling him to do, does anyone ever remember him being so active before in these organizations? Does anyone even remember him being active at all?
Ya, well.. I think the money is great and I can only hope that his “pretend wife” continues to ask him to part with more since Im sure they are both loaded and can afford to come over some more money.
Oh and to the msg left about: C’mon, are you telling me that you are blaming Bush for hungry Americans? We have welfare, alot of people are on it.. live off of it, no American should starve if you can get to a local welfare office, shelter, church and many other places. Most of our country is obese compared to the rest of the world. On a final note, did we have any hungry Americans before Bush was elected? Or did this just come about during his second term? Pish Posh, thats a bunch of trash talk.
324 | Rosie | YAWN
Bush is not a great President. He is not a born again christian. He does not get along with his father. He thanks that his dad is weak for not going into Iraq,so he did it to try and prove that he is a better man than W sr. And also because the family stood to gain much ,much ,moolah for the carlyle group. He uses religion as a tool to get the poor redneck, unlearned white trash to vote for him down in the dixie south. I think that he had an affair with Condi. I think that he is one of the most arrogant people alive, and has less reason than anyone to be so. He is presiding over one of the most corrupt adminstrations in the history of the presidency. He stole the Florida elections. He lied about Iraq and he threw Colin Powell under the bus.I don’t know why Colin Powell went to the U.N and lied for him ,he helped convince people that IRAQ had WOMD. His admin, refuses to show the flag draped coffins filled with innocent young men and women dead bodies being flown home for burial. America can not go to Iraq and bomb everything that moves, what about the old ,the young.,the innocent. We are not respected anymore around the world, when Clinton was in office we did not have this respect problem. You people can continue to fool yourselves and refuse to see the truth but, one day Bush will be publicly exposed. Wars are started because of one man passion
See? Nothing is good for haters: if they publish what they donate, this is only a PR move. If they don’t announce it, this means they don’t give anything to charities just and they must have stolen the money. This is the logic of haters or the Xfans. So from now i won’t argue with them, because they are as stupid as one get. These haters are little, wicked girls who happen to have an access to internet. I’ll sit back and laugh.

EXACTlY !!! that’s how pathetic the haters are. they would prefer the doing nothing but pampering herself Maniston..
326 | we are not all honorable men |
Everybody love Clinton. American or non-American. He’s a great leader of the world. I always think there will be no 911 if Clinton was still in office. the world was so peaceful then.
ROSIE YOU BORE ME TO DEATH WITH YOUR “PRETEND STORY”.
324 | Rosie
You are so boring. like it or not. they are living as a family and husband and wife. accept it. !!!!Maniston is living with her pretend fiancee and pretend son, Norman the dog.
Rosie, you can’t stand Brad and Angie doing the good things, uh ? and despite all you and the other haters cursing, they are on the right path of their life. you and some haters might hate them but there are still lot of people love them. thats a fact.
Rosie need her medicine.
All the king’s men is getting horrible reviews so it might be out of the running for the oscars which means the departed as a even better chance for the best picture award..let’s see what kind of reviews it gets..good ones I hope

I think it was 3 billion dollars and hey. we know about it. And Richard Branson is known as an adventurer, yet he somehow flies under the radar. And George Lucus gave 175 million to a school, and I do remember Spielberg doing the same a few months ago. I suppose the haters will now counter with ‘BA are stingy because it’s only 2 million.’ Branson, Lucas, and Spielberg are worth billions, a different league than BA.
And ET just announced that X will participate in a performance to benefit a children in the arts charity.
~ONE PERFORMANCE~
We know about that, now will you haters go to her thread and bash her for this being made public? Or will the fact that it’s for ‘American’ children make it right? Or, will the fact that she is expending a few weeks in a safe, cozy theater, is a cause befitting ‘America’s Sweetheart”?
#309 Real Tita
You forget that Clinton DID try to do something about Osama,
and the Republicans in Congress were concerned with his getting
extramarital sex than defending the country and called his
bombing in Afghanistan a “wag the dog” move, discredited the
intelligence he brought before them, and fought him on the Anti-
Terrorism bill he finally passed.
When we have eight years of peace and prosperity, yeah, I like
that president. When we are laughing stocks in the world, at war,
more Americans dying during his term in office (which he
obtained through nefarious means both times) than during the
entire eight years previously, when he has destroyed the
environment, promoted bigotry, ignored natural disasters coming,
tried to prevent the 9/11 Commission from doing its job to help
us fight further acts of terrorism, defended his Arab buddies and
helped Osama’s relatives and associates to escape America, gava
up on going after Osama to fight for oil in iraq, and slashed
education across the land — yeah, I don’t like that president.
Now, give it up — you are worse than the haters. You have made
up your mind based on propaganda and an aversion to a sexual
act that has nothing to do with how the country is run, and no
amount of facts will change your mind. So agree to be left in
ignorance and defending a guy who will go down in history as one
of the worst presidents the U,S. has ever seen, and get back to
talking about Brad and Angelina. Or just go find another thread to
spew your rants.
And Richard Branson did it for the same reasons as Jolie-Pitt do:
he READ up on the subject, he RESEARCHED it, got his facts
straight, looked around and realized that the subject was of an
URGENT NEED that required PARTICIPATION from many quarters
and the way to do that was not just to write a check but to DRAW
ATTENTION TO THE SUBJECT so that ohers could be interested
enough to do THEIR OWN RESEARCH and ALSO PARTICIPATE in
helping SOLVE the problem.
Jeez, do you think I made it simple enough for those who grumble
about charity being publicized?
#312 Bleh
You miss the point. They are not bringing attention to
THEMSELVES, they are bringing attention to the CAUSES. And
yes, IF it were all about donating money to look good, I would
agree with you, but what they are doing is not what God
condemned. If there is a fire in a building, is it better to throw
water on it by yourself, or to yell “FIRE!!” and call 911 AS WELL AS
throw water on it? Is that person only trying to have publicity? Of
course not. But that’s what you’re saying they are doing. Instead
of noticing that a fire is raging while you stand there criticizing
them for yelling FIRE, you could be helping.
Or, if you don’t care if this particular building burns or are unable
to help for whatever reason, then just be quiet about it, because
some people try to put out fires, and realize they can’t do it alone,
and not saying anything only makes the fire bigger, and there’s
nothing wrong with calling for backup so others know there is a
fire, too.
