OlderJolie/Pitt Foundation Formed
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have formed the Jolie/Pitt Foundation to aid humanitarian causes around the world. The newly formed charitable foundation is giving away $1 million to the Global Action for Children and $1 million to Doctors Without Borders, to help families affected by HIV/AIDS and extreme poverty.
The U.S. director for Global Action for Children, Jennifer Delaney, said: “Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt not only care, but more important, are taking concrete action to address the fact that there will be 20 million children orphaned by AIDS by 2010, and millions more orphaned by tuberculosis, malaria and conflict or whose parents are sick and dying.”
The couple’s spokesman, Trevor Neilson, released a statement saying: “Angelina and Brad are committed to using their resources to help the world’s most vulnerable people. These two organizations are focusing on crises that receive far too little attention and Angelina and Brad are happy to do their part to help.”
And here’s a list of Brad and Angelina’s Banksy art purchases:
- $226,000: The “Picnic” painting depicts a white family of four merrily lunching under an umbrella on a red checked blanket while 15 starving Africans - including several children with distended bellies - look on.
- $75,000: A white bust with a bleeding bullet hole in the forehead - was a particular favorite of Jolie’s. “She went nuts for that one,” an onlooker told the mag. “She told [her baby daddy], ‘I must have that one.’”
- $75,000: Portrait of a man hit in the head with a custard pie.

Angelina – “Tomb Raider” No More
It’s so long to bubble-gum roles for Angelina Jolie: the distaff half of Brangelina has been cast in the lead role of Ayn Rand’s iconic novel “Atlas Shrugged” for Lions Gate Films, according to Variety this morning. The actress will take on the challenging, conflicted character of railroad executive Dagny Taggart in the Rand adaptation, a film that other producers have tried to bring to the big screen for years — Faye Dunaway was once considered for the same role.
And it’s just the latest in a run of very weighty, thesp-y upcoming roles for the one-time Lara Croft. She’ll be in “Beowulf” and Robert DeNiro’s “The Good Shepherd,” as well as tackling the difficult job of portraying Mariane Pearl, the widow of murdered journalist Daniel Pearl. How about something that Maddox, Zahara, and Shiloh can watch their mommy in? Oh, right – Jolie’s also lending her voice to “Kung Fu Panda.”
Meanwhile, the Jolie-Pitts have created a new charitable foundation that will aid humanitarian causes around the globe, and their first give will be $2 million – half to Global Action for Children, and the other half to Doctors Without Borders.

I’m not too into Angie’s choices in art, but the white family having a nice picnic while African children (families) are starving — what a message that sends!!! This is what she’s trying to make people understand about poverty. We have so much and so many do not. Gosh, I wish they were in front of me right now — I’d hug them both and tell them how much I so admire what they are doing.

OK, I’m going to say something to all the ‘Real Deal’ Gals. After a long day at work, I would go home, put the TV on and watch my shows. I would read a bit, watch sports — I’m a sports freak — and just chill. When my niece would finish her homework (school time) or come in from playing outside (Summer), we would catch up on what was going on in her little life. Week-ends are set aside for museums and opera (if it’s one I like). I’m a R&B girl and love my Aretha, Gladys and TINA — LOVE MY TINA!! You guys have added so much more to my life at home. I would NEVER even look at the PC when I got home, but all of you have made it an adventure for me, an adventure that I so look forward to, and so much want to thank you for. I’m leaving for vacation on 30th September and will be gone for two weeks — I don’t know what I’m going to do without being able to chat with all of you, and catching up on A&B.
Life is short, and I wanted to say that before I left. Of course I still have a bunch of days before I head off, but it’s something that I needed to say. This week began with very sad and tragic news and I’m a believer is saying what you feel now, before you regret it. So, there! I’ve said it and that’s that.

Hi Julie: I subscribe to Vanity Fair because of a manager’s son. His school has a mag drive, and I didn’t know which one to pick, so I picked VF. I don’t read the articles, I just look at the picures as well. I’m too busy with my National Geographic and Smithsonian mags to really read VA.

I think coming on here is like coffee in the morning for these haters, they don’t feel right without whining about Brad and Angie. Heaven forbid, they don’t use the precious minutes typing on here to do something positive with their time.
They have a better chance of winning a fist fight with a concrete wall than changing the mind of a Brad and Angelina fan….yet, it’s almost been two years and they still don’t get it.
There are more pressing issues in the world and they act as if every more that Brad and Angie make is be all, end all as if they’re world leaders or something. What these two choose to do with their lives does not directly or indiretly affect the haters lives. I first heard about Doctors without Borders while reading Angies book, This is a organization that I would love to help, These doctors take their life in their hands helping those that can not help themselves.

Meli: Could not agree with you more. My nephew/son — I helped raise him — has had four tours of Iraq. He was in Somalia as well. He’s seen Poverty and he knows how lucky he, his wife and two daughters are. He said the worse thing he has EVER had to do in his whole life was to push woman with babies away from food that was being delivered to them because of the mad crush. He said he could not sleep for days after that. When he was in Iraq he could not belive the things he saw. The palaces that Sadam lived in. He said to see the poor in the streets and then go into one of his palaces made him sick. We have so many poor in the States and we have so many homeless right now in New Orleans, but we have an administration and a president who are more willing to spend monies on a war in Iraq that should NEVER HAVE HAPPENED!!!
