OlderJolie/Pitt Foundation Formed
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have formed the Jolie/Pitt Foundation to aid humanitarian causes around the world. The newly formed charitable foundation is giving away $1 million to the Global Action for Children and $1 million to Doctors Without Borders, to help families affected by HIV/AIDS and extreme poverty.
The U.S. director for Global Action for Children, Jennifer Delaney, said: “Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt not only care, but more important, are taking concrete action to address the fact that there will be 20 million children orphaned by AIDS by 2010, and millions more orphaned by tuberculosis, malaria and conflict or whose parents are sick and dying.”
The couple’s spokesman, Trevor Neilson, released a statement saying: “Angelina and Brad are committed to using their resources to help the world’s most vulnerable people. These two organizations are focusing on crises that receive far too little attention and Angelina and Brad are happy to do their part to help.”
And here’s a list of Brad and Angelina’s Banksy art purchases:
- $226,000: The “Picnic” painting depicts a white family of four merrily lunching under an umbrella on a red checked blanket while 15 starving Africans - including several children with distended bellies - look on.
- $75,000: A white bust with a bleeding bullet hole in the forehead - was a particular favorite of Jolie’s. “She went nuts for that one,” an onlooker told the mag. “She told [her baby daddy], ‘I must have that one.’”
- $75,000: Portrait of a man hit in the head with a custard pie.

40 | julia - I hope thats true, and I LOVE that Angie is taking on more serious roles that are actually WORTHY of what a great actress she is.
As for the foundation, I think it will make it easier for the Jolie Pitts to control where their money goes and who it goes to than just making donations. Plus, foundations often invest money that they start with so that the money for the foundation to work with in terms of making chartiable contributions GROWS.
I think that Angie and Brad do WAY more and give WAY more than a lot of celebrities do in terms of time and money. There are a lot of people that do a lot of good that are wealthy and just because they happen to buy some art or live more lavishly than most middle class people in the U.S. doesn’t mean they’re not generous. Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, for example, the two RICHEST men in the world…do you think they live in shacks or don’t drive fancy cars? Please. But they are giving BILLIONS OF DOLLARS away to helping improve the lives of others.
Paul Newman started a foundation when his son died called the Newman Foundation to give money to groups/projects helping the fight against drugs. From that small start Mr Newman now has his NewmanOwn Foundation (from his sales of sauces and dressings etc) . The NewmanOwn Foundation gives to all different kinds of charity groups and projects.
While he was creating this foundation, he still purchased and raced expensive cars all around the world. He lived in expensive homes.
Some younger people may know Mr Newman more for his dressings than his movies.
The criticism that haters are posting about the Jolie/Pitt Foundation can be placed upon even on the best celeb foundations out there.
Good Work Brad and Angelina hopefully one day your foundation will be as big as Mr Newmans.
regarding the art purchase
1) I think Just Jared regurgitate the detail from a star magazine. I remember yesterday I read from the tmz site, something similar. The tmz site mentioned that “…..according to star…”.
Funny, in the afternoon, tmz took that article down.
2) I sometimes wonder if Just Jared purposely put up something like that to stir controversy , to get many postings and hits, thereby generating revenue.

And yes, I don’t know why everyone asks him about Hillary, but I’m sure he knows that EVERYONE will be asking him that question at every interview he does for the next two years. For the record, I think she’ll run, but I don’t think she’ll win the primary. The reason she’s so high in the polls is because of name recognition - EVERYONE knows who she is.
Back on topic, I don’t know if I would have spent as much $$ as the Jolie Pitts did on Bansky art, but Bansky’s type of art is NOT my cup of tea at all. The elephant thing was kind of appalling to me, and the description of what B&A supposedly bought at the showing didn’t sound all that interesting to me either. But if they like it, more power to them. Taste in art is so subjective.

FITR: Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, you had to bring it up, didn’t you? NO! I was soooo upset over it, and I could have taped it. How was OUR man? I so miss him as President. The one we have, and I’m telling you, so many of my Republican close friends who voted for this wanker regret ever doing it. I was watching a show — I think it was HBO or Showtime — on Barry Goldwater. Now, being the Liberal that I am, I think I would have voted for him. It’s like there are no intelligent, smart Republican or Dem candidates out there — with the exception of Hillary, of course. Cannot stand Guliani. He did a great job during 9/11, but any Mayor would have done the same thing. If he runs, he’s going to use 9/11 like ‘Wanker Bush’ uses ‘terror’. The man has done NOTHING for the poor in this country — NOTHING!! Look what he’s NOT done for New Orleans. He’s a waste — the worse President this great country of ours has EVER had!!!

You know, you sort of answered your own question when you brought up Bill Gates. Why did Bill Gates create HIS own foundation? To control where his money goes and make sure it’s spent in the way HE wants it spent. No, he doesn’t work for the organizations he gives the money to and he can’t control them after they get the money. But what he does do is make damned good and sure that he’s dealing with ethical, like-minded people who will follow through with their stated plans and goals. That’s not narcissism. That’s smart.
You’ll also note that B/A have a philanthropic advisor for this foundation. Obviously they’re very busy with their careers and their family and don’t have the BILLIONS of dollars to put into their foundation that Bill Gates does. That means they’re going to have to continue to work to generate revenue for their foundation. And if they’re working as actors and producers, taking care of their 20 kids and doing other charitable projects…they’re obviously going to have to delegate some things to people they trust and rely on.
So why not a foundation? This is obviously going to be an on-going venture for them and not a fly-by-night setup. And lastly…now people know where the money for Shiloh’s photos is going and they can shut the hell up about it!
I am glad that all Jolie/Pitt fans understand what non profit org means. I am glad that they know the rules and regulations which govern these org. I am also glad they are drawing examples of bill gates, warren buffet and paul newman. I see many good and thoughtful posts from fellow fans. Nothing beats knowledge, cos knowledge is power.!!
