Eric Bana’s Boleyn Girls
EXCITING! Here are the very first pictures from the set of historical drama The Other Boleyn Girl starring Eric Bana, Scarlett Johansson, and Natalie Portman (pictured above with head turned). The Other Boleyn Girl is based on Philippa Gregory’s novel and tells the story of the two ferociously ambitious Boleyn sisters contending for the affection of 16th century English King Henry VIII, played by Eric Bana. Natalie will play Anne Boleyn, Scarlett will play Mary Boleyn.
This cast seems really strong (and beautiful), so I’m banking on this move being a knockout. Kristin Scott Thomas (Sarah Davies in Mission: Impossible)recently joined the cast as Lady Elizabeth, the mother of the Boleyn sisters. The Other Boleyn Girl is set for a 2007 release. I can’t wait to see TOBG.
I think Eric will be great - but yes, I too wish he was a redhead as Henry was.
I’m trying to find the Australian release date.
I know it’s UK October 5 and US October 26.
I hope we aren’t far behind them !

i have read this book, like a million times and as far as this picture goes, u are right about henry being thin and redheaded, in fact he was around thirtyish when this was supposed to have been happening. the girls, on the other hand, are supposed to be in their teens. mary is supposed to be the younger one with fair hair and eyes, while anne is supposed to be the tall, older, more dark complected one. more mysterious, while mary is supposed to be fair and soft. i am a little disappointed in this aspect about the movie (inferred from the pic above). i think that i like the picture in my head more than on the screen….
i’ll still see the movie though!
I have read every one of Phillipas books and I can honestly say they are some of the best books I have ever read. Full of intrigue, beautiful descriptions, drama, sex, scandal, love you feel as though you’re becoming apart of these marvelously interesting historical peoples lives. The other Boleyn Girl blew my mind! I only hope that this movie does the story of Mary and Anne Boleyn justice. If you get the chance to read the book before the movie comes out TAKE IT! it was amazing.
First of all:
Holy codpiece, Batman!
I was disappointed that they did not cast a fairer looking Henry as the favored look was in fact the fairer the better back then and he did fit that bill. At this time, he was still considered the best looking male monarch in Europe. However, Eric has played any role I’ve seen him in very well and he is as many have mentioned the king of sexy in this. As for the girls, I love to look at both of them, I’m not sure what to expect from Natalie as this is very opposite her roles I have seen. Mary’s character is more of what I expect from ScarlyJo but pushed to the limit.
The biggest complaint that I have is the script. I don’t care how well any of them try to act or the director directs, the lute-ful soundtrack sounds, the locations or costumes look, etc, it is all going to be for nothing if the currently leaked p.o.s. script has not been *completely* redone. I could have written better, and one should note how awful my own writing skills are by this post. Many have complained the book is horrid, etc, etc, for all its inaccuracies and that Anne is either portrayed too nicely or the opposite, but they could have made this into an incredible movie, and maybe even corrected some things historically while they were at it. Instead, what they have done makes me want to claw my eyes out after reading such garbage. I can’t believe how terribly this has done considering this writer’s other works. Maybe he wrote it all in one day when he had a hangover, who knows, but I have really never been so disappointed in a script in my life and I’ve seen some bad ones.
edit: I’ll definitely give it one chance, then I’m buying it either way to watch on mute due to the overwhelming amount of hotness. While I’d like to punish the people that didn’t puke on the script rather than accept it, the casting person just did too well in putting in the sexiness- good for the actual characters or not.
I met them at the hotel i work at last night, they’re really nice girls. Never saw eric bana tho, he kept himself to himself.
They’re filming some of it in Ely Cathedral
other actors (and picky viewers like myself) care about accents. if you’re an actor who takes your career seriously (as opposed to just wanting to be famous a la Paris Hilton) you need to be able to play a variety of roles, not just play yourself all the time, and accents are a huge (and basic) part of that. when actors can’t pull off an accent it’s because they either didn’t put in the work to learn it properly or they don’t have a talent for it. either case is a red flag that the actor didn’t get the part for the right reasons (ie looks & hype over talent). if you can’t get it, then you’ll never be convincing in the part no matter how emotional/passionate/dramatic you get in a scene.
everyday people with low standards might not know or care if the accents are bad as long as the girls look pretty or whatever, but they will most certainly be judged by their peers. i like both girls but they’ve both done patchy accent work in the past
they couldn’t have picked TWO WORSE people to play the Boleyn Girls…
WORST ENGLISH ACCENTS IN THE HISTORY OF ENGLAND…AND ACCENTS…
Terrible,terrible,terrible.
