Angelina Visits Mommy Dearest
Angelina Jolie took the time yesterday afternoon to visit her mom, French actress Marcheline Bertrand, at L’Ermitage Hotel in Beverly Hills before leaving the country. (Marcheline is reportedly battling cancer and undergoing chemotherapy sessions.) Angelina will be traveling to India within the next few weeks for a reported month-long trip to shoot the upcoming film A Mighty Heart — she plays Marianne Pearl, the wife of the slain Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl. Check out more pictures in the gallery!
Angelina was spotted chatting away on her cell phone in the car after visiting her mom. Brad Pitt was spotted visiting The Ermitage Hotel later on his motorcycle. Funny inset picture, no? (:

Darfur to crumble if troops depart
Rob Crilly
September 05, 2006
FRANTIC diplomatic efforts were underway overnight to keep
foreign peacekeepers in Sudan’s war-torn western region of Darfur
as Government troops continued a week-long assault on rebel-
held villages.
Video: Sudan again on the brink of war
Human rights groups gave warning that the region was poised to
topple into an abyss of rape and genocide if African Union soldiers
leave at the end of the month as scheduled.
The Sudanese Government is blocking the arrival of a UN force
and yesterday appeared to order the immediate withdrawal of AU
soldiers.
Hundreds of thousands of people have died and millions have
been made homeless since fighting began in 2003 between rebels
and government forces.
James Smith, the chief executive of the Aegis Trust, which
campaigns against genocide, said that the expulsion of
peacekeepers would make it impossible for aid agencies to help
Darfur’s displaced millions.
“By crippling that lifeline, the Government of Sudan is deliberately
inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about
its physical destruction. Under the terms of the United Nations
Genocide Convention, this constitutes genocide,” he said.
Kofi Annan, the UN Secretary-General, called on the Sudanese
Government to reconsider its position.
Darfur’s rebels took up arms in 2003 against a government they
accused of neglect. The Government in Khartoum responded with
a scorched-earth policy. It enlisted the support of the Janjawid,
whose mounted fighters destroyed villages suspected of
harbouring rebels.
More than a quarter of a million people have died from fighting,
disease or hunger, with two and a half million in squalid aid
camps. Last week the United Nations Security Council passed a
resolution to deploy 20,000 troops and police in Darfur.
They would replace a cash-strapped force of 7,000 African
soldiers, which has struggled to protect civilians and aid workers
in an area the size of France.
The plan was rejected by the Sudanese Government, which said it
would not allow UN troops on its soil.
Instead, Khartoum is reported to have launched a fresh wave of
attacks on villages in northern Darfur. Yesterday a Foreign
Ministry spokesman said the AU had indicated that it did not have
the resources to stay past the end of the month.
“If they are unable to continue with
Cont from post 1664
“If they are unable to continue with their assignment in Darfur
beyond September 30, then they have to leave before that date,”
he said.
A second spokesman later clarified the position after hurried
meetings with AU officials, saying that the African troops could
stay if their mandate was renewed. But Baba Gana Kingibe, the
head of the AU mission in Sudan, said that his organisation had
reaffirmed a decision to end its mandate in Darfur on September
30.
David Mozersky, of the International Crisis Group, said that the
only hope lay with a renewed AU mandate: “We cannot allow there
to be a vacuum. That would be a disaster.”
Khartoum plans to send 10,000 of its own troops to Darfur as
part of a peace force. Aid workers are dismayed by the proposal
and point out that Sudanese soldiers have been responsible for
some of the worst atrocities.
One rebel faction signed a peace agreement with the Government
in May but the violence has intensified. Eight aid workers were
killed in July, making it the bloodiest month since fighting began
This is what I’ve written to my representative:
I am an Australian expatriate. I’m extremely concerned about
what is happening in Darfur. The situation there has been
described as a genocide by some NGOs. Many others have
warned that civilians in Darfur are facing terrible hardship and
persecution. Please work to support the civilians and the need to
send UN peace enforcers to Sudan.
For the first time, I’m supporting the bombing of Khartoum if
necessary to warn the Sudanese government that the world is
watching and will seek to enforce some “cooperation” from the
Sudanese government. What ever it is, the worst thing the
nations of the world can do is watch from the sidelines wringing
their hands whilst an disgusting group of people in Khartoum can
commit genocide with impunity.
hello everyone , it’s the morning here, 7 am
have nice sunday
hope we’ll get pics of the family in India!

can you give us the link , then we can sign the petition to save Darfour ;
thx
Creole, I can’t give you a link coz I wrote to my government as well
as the opposition party in Australia. I suggest you do the same.
It’s not good enough to write to an NGO so I’m writing to my
representative. If I were to re-write my little piece, I would add
something along the lines of how I regret my country’s
involvement in Iraq is not hampering from doing the right thing in
Sudan but it must find the will to do so. (In fact, I might just
send another email off to them). But let your government know,
through your representative, just how you feel, how angry you are
with the inaction - politely but firmly.
Creole, here’s what I sent off to my country’s government (I
guess I shouldn’t say, “My Government” as I’m not the queen).
One further point. I’m disappointed that the Australian
government has seen fit to send its soldiers to Iraq, to chase the
phantom weapons of mass destruction and to promote
democracy for Iraqis, but seem unable to commit troops to stop
GENOCIDE in Darfur. Please take STRONG ACTION to prevent
genocide in DARFUR.
Good morning everyone and happy Sunday. Hey 4Q, thanks for the video, I just watched and absolutely loved it. I had such a good laugh… very good clip.

I am thinking of those people running for their lives, tired, sick , kids in tow.
Clooney recently spoke at UN. I don’t know if there is any progress to his campaign against
the genocide happening in Darfur.
Thanks again for the FYI.
While training to play a US Coast Guard in his new film, Ashton Kutcher had one man’s body in mind for inspiration — Brad Pitt.
“I went and saw Troy, I was with my wife and with a friend, and every time Brad came on and he was like naked or whatever, they were like ‘Ohh’, and I’m like, ‘I’m right here, I’m sitting right next to you,’” says Kutcher, “I knew this movie was coming up so I went out and hired Brad Pitt’s trainer.”

Char (MO Fan),
I’ll call you tonight so you can walk me through introductions. I’ve been so super busy since Friday night, including having to work Saturday night, now I’ve gotta go to church, to the folk dance troupe (we’re starting again in time for the simbang-gabi), afterwards do the groceries and clean the house — I’ve got such a full plate today. Angelina no show dampens Pune spirits
http://www.teluguportal.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=15899
Pune, Oct 1 (IANS) After the expectation, the disappointment - that about summed up the sentiment here as the expected visit of Hollywood star Angelia Jolie failed to materialise till Sunday evening.
Jolie and companion Brad Pitt were to reach this western Indian town Sunday but through the day, the authorities kept mum on their whereabouts.
From the police commissioner, to the traffic police chief, to the police control room, to the airport, to hotels, the response was the same: “We have no information”.
Municipal Commissioner Nitin Kareer, too, wasn’t forthcoming.
“I know a lot about city matters but have not heard much in terms of the Jolie visit,” Kareer told IANS.
The beautiful Jolie was expected here to shoot for “A Mighty Heart” based on the real life story of Wall Street journalist Daniel Pearl, who was killed in Pakistan by Islamist terrorists in 2002.
For Jolie, her decision to portray Mariane Pearl, wife of the slain journalist Daniel, is in some small way marking Pune as a transition point in her career. Pune was chosen for the shooting as the landscape and ambience resembled that between Islamabad and Karachi, where Pearl was beheaded in cold blood.
People in Pune were enthused by her impending six-weeks trip. Ordinary citizens were abuzz with anticipation, and so were the few more interested in serious cinema. The star couple are said to bringing along their three children - Maddox, Zahara and newborn Shiloh-Nouvel.
“An actress like Jolie is no doubt going to have a pull and her presence (in the film) is going to add to the strong message. She will definitely draw a huge audience,” said Keval Kumar, former director of the Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication.
“A Mighty Heart”, dealing with more political issues, will also throw light on the dangers and heroism of journalists. Pearl risked his life doing research in Pakistan for an article in Islamic fundamentalism.
There is no doubt that a huge part of the pull among audiences worldwide to the movie will be Jolie….
I’m going to bed now. Bye everyone : )
See ya tomorrow.
Have a wonderful Sunday /\ _ /\
It worries me that Pune/India seems to be so anxious for the visit - it truly seems like there will be too much of an uproar made over them when they come. I think the last thing they want is a circus surrounding this shoot in particular considering the subject matter. So I’m a bit concerned.
1680 | piyutra - Thank you Piyutra for the article. I can’t wait to see the film and the new Angie and I am sure everyone feels the same. I think she will be phenomenal in that role … the mother, the wife, the humanitarian. She will be amazing to watch.
I’m worried that Pune/India seems to be so anxious/excited for their visit — I hope that doesn’t overshadow the serious business of making this film - the last thing they want I’m sure is a circus surrounding their every move. The subject matter is much too delicate for that. I think Pune needs to take a deep breath and chill. LOL
