EXCLUSIVE: Maggie Gyllenhaal Gives Birth to Baby Girl

Maggie Gyllenhaal and fiance Peter Sarsgaard are officially proud parents! Maggie gave birth to her first daughter late Tuesday, a source close to the Gyllenhaal family confirmed exclusively to JJ.

Maggie and Peter decided to name their daughter Ramona Sarsgaard. Ramona was born around 8PM at a NYC hospital. The newborn’s arrival came two weeks before Maggie’s expected delivery.

This is the first child for Maggie, 28, and Peter, 35.

Congrats to the happy couple and, of course, baby Ramona! Uncle Jake must be so proud! More details coming at you soon…

Congrats to Maggie and Peter!! I’m so happy for them. Ramona is an interesting name, at first I didn’t like it but when I thought about the Beverly Cleary books it became really cute to me!

She’s going to be a beautiful baby. Peter and Maggie both have such unique looks (in the good way!).

Romona? Damn! Why oh why do people do this to their children? PEOPLE WAKE UP….these “cute” names aren’t cute on adults! Yes, someday little Romona is going to grow up and NO ONE will take her seriously!

Oh that’s so awesome ! I bet they will be great parents, Jake will be an awesome Uncle, Mom and Dad G will be fantastic grandparents and Boo and Atticus will be incredible watchdogs and playmates ! :) Thanks for the “exclusive” news ! Er, Ramona is hardly a cutesy celeb name. On the contrary, it is a pretty-sounding name that nevertheless “works” as a name for an adult woman who would like to be taken seriously.

Women, like, men should be able to do what they CHOOSE to do. It should be up to nobody but the individual to decide. Human, your opinion is fine for you but please don’t project it onto everybody else and esp. not Maggie because she’s had a career first and has waited until she has time (at 28) to have a child.

Well first off congrats to the proud parents and it’s nice to see my name “Ramona” getting some spotlight!!! In my lifetime I only met 2 other people with my name and I love having a unique name…beats being called Jennifer or some other common name that EVERYONE else has!

It IS a wonderful name–it means “wise protectress”, it’s old-fashioned, has some great music behind it (Bob Dylan, Nat King Cole), a cute California town, a classic novel, a fine Jamaican liqueur (Rumona), a darling children’s book, and a great nickname–Rae. Not many names can claim THAT much history & association!

In my lifetime, I’ve only met 7 or 8 of “us” and we all LOVE having the name. It’s unsual without being STUPID–like Apple, Peach, Huckleberry……

I’m glad to be a Ramona
