OlderFIRST LOOK: Angelina Jolie as Mariane Pearl in ‘A Mighty Heart’
Angelina Jolie plays Mariane, widow of the Wall Street Journal reporter, who was murdered by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002 while researching a story on the links between “shoe bomber” Richard Reid and Islamic spiritual leader Sheikh Mubarak Gilani. Mariane was pregnant with their child (inset) when her husband was kidnapped.
Jolie said in a weekend statement that she was disappointed not to be filming in Pakistan, “a country I love and have visited three times.” But security concerns pushed the filming to the western Indian city of Pune, which was chosen because it resembles Karachi, Pakistan.

The festivals are a great reminder of not just Danny’s work as a journalist but of his life and his love of music.”

Marianne Pearl is a survivor and very courageous. She did good by choosing Angie. She’ll do great. Daniel Futterman also has an uncanny resemblance to Daniel Pearl. Can’t wait for this movie.

Get your facts straight before you talk crap. In fact she was not the beneficiary of the life insurance policy -his sister Michelle was. He did not change the policy. There was no money for Mariane and WSJ eventually resolved the issue by paying out two sums - one to the sister and one to Mariane.
So what she claimed money from the 9/11 fund. She was not working - she refused to touch the money collected for her and Adam because she felt WSJ did not stand up for Danny. She was in Pakistan alone for the trial of the perpetrators. Give her a break.

A leafy boulevard in an Indian city stood in for a swish Pakistani neighbourhood as Hollywood star Angelina Jolie began shooting for a film about a US journalist abducted and killed in Pakistan.
The film, A Mighty Heart, is the story of Daniel Pearl, a reporter with The Wall Street Journal who was kidnapped in the Pakistani port city of Karachi and killed in 2002 while researching a report in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.
It will be shot for a month in the western Indian industrial city of Pune as security concerns prevented filming in Pakistan.
On Monday, filming began in a two-storey white bungalow in Pune’s Sindh Society locality, which has a striking similarity to the district in Karachi - with its boulevards, row houses and bungalows - where Pearl was staying.

I am not really sure of the story because quite frankly I knew how it would be received and never read any of the stories. My theory is that because he died while investigating the events of 9/11 her lawyer though she stood a chance because it arose out of the same events even though not directly a result of 9/11. Basically an indirect causal effect.
That claim however was too attenuated to be given real merit.

I just can’t help but think that there are better actress of color who could’ve played Marianne. Now, I know you guys will bring up Halle, but can you name another actress of color who has portrayed a character based on real life that was Caucasian?
Now, I’m not saying that I don’t love Angie because I do and she looks good with the hair, but it’s the principle. Caucasian actors have longed played roles of real life figures who are clearly from another race. Since there are SO few roles for minorities in Hollywood, would it kill to give this role to someone like Thandie Newton, who looks and will be able to do Marianne justice?
However, I will admit that Jennifer Aniston, a woman who doesn’t look ANYTHING like Marianne and who gets roles based on sheer ambition rather than real talent, is a far worse choice.
Great transformation. I find both of these ladies absolutely gorgeous. I can’t even imagine what Marianne had to go through.

I thought the same way of Renee Zellweger in “Bridget Jones’ Diary.” Why not hire a slightly overweight British actress to play her and then make her lose weight? Jennifer Aniston never had the role in the first place. Marianne
chose to give Brad the rights to the book, he didn’t just snap it
up because he wanted it. as special as this book was to Marianne,
i’m sure Brad let her consider all the actresses she wanted to play
her. and lo and behold Angie was picked in the end, whether she
was picked by Brad, the casting director, or Marianne herself,
obviously Marianne approved and was happy w/ the decision and
that’s all that matters. w/ all that Marianne has been through, i

Angelina was definitely picked by Brad Pitt and was approved by Mariane Pearl. Brad is the owner of the rights of that book and he as a producer has the right to choose the actress to play the lead. So what if Brad chose Angelina to play the role as it obviously the case here, isn’t she is an outstanding actress and can pull off dramatic roles? Just because she happens to be in a relationship with the producer does not mean she got the role without deserving it. Beside so many other actors do family business with their partners so why is it a sin when Brad does it? I’m sure Angie will do a terrific job specially as someone mentioned she got the experince to pull off the necessary emotions for this film.

makeup, wardrobe, and wigs (and in Nicole Kidman’s case, a fake
nose) are for. Getting into the soul of the character matters.
That’s why the Brits ended up loving Renee Zellwegger as their
Bridget Jones. She has a goofy, slightly world-weary, laughing at
herself, a little shy and insecure attitude that fit the role perfectly.
And as was mentioned, Gwyneth Paltrow played Brit more than
once. Her snooty, self-righteous attitude worked very well as the
matchmaker in Emma, just as Jane Austen wrote the character.
Angie is not only a good actress, but the material and the life
experience made her instantly understand the character, which is
why she and Marianne hit it off so well when they met and
Marianne wanted her for the role.
Mentioning JA for the role, that she never had and admitted she
wasn’t sure she even wanted, makes as much sense as
mentioning Tara Reid for it. Only Huvane put her name out there
as attached to the movie, everyone else knows she never had
anything to do with it and wouldnt’ be right for it.
THere will be other roles for Thandie Newton and others that
didn’t get this role, just as there are any time a movie is made.
But this one fits the actress because of the material.

Thanks Just Jared for the stills of AJ as MP. I feel that AJ will do a great job in this role. It is more than skin color, but a mixture of life experiences, surviving through insurmountable pain, and bringing a new life into the world. AJ has experienced all of these things as well as MP. Do not sell people short because you are fixated on the past. MP had the courage to move forward with her life after suffering a devasting lost. Some of you poor Jen fans cannot even move on from a hollywood divorce. I support AJ in this role and I am looking forward to the movie. Peace to all.

The first part was just my observations and what I thought of the transcript in a post HERE on JJ, it’s NOT what I am sending to NBC or CNN/Larry King…I SPECIFICALLY state what I am sending and suggest others send and that is that they are simply ‘BOYCOTTING TRUMP/APPRENTICE’ - I do NOT tell people what to include, and I do NOT say that I am including anything else other than what I wrote after the e-mail addresses.

My bottomline is this — it’s a fact of life in our very capitalist society — that if people think there are likely to be ramifications and consequences to their actions, they may tend to NOT do it, and you might even get an apology out of it and a retraction (see Michael Douglas’ hasty pseudo-apology) - barring that, you might at least prevent this mofo from spouting off again in the near future.
It’s a given he WILL get publicity for his remarks.
If there are NO consequences TO HIM aside from the ones he so obviously WANTS (publicity for himself and his show) - then he WILL do it again…much as he made his comments on his blog…he got plenty of hits from JJ posting his blog commentary HERE, and then it hitting Google and others referencing…so guess what?? It’s not rocket science to understand why he is STILL doing it, and will continue, as long as there is nothing but PRESS coming his way.
NOW, if his parent company, and the ad department get wind of a possible boycott - they might tell him to shut the **** up.

Why that is? Only you know. I have never liked Jennifer Aniston - as an actor she’s a one-trick pony and got lucky when she married Pitt. She got attention by marrying him and that’s the only reason why. What I have disliked in her, I’m now starting to dislike in Angelina Jolie and Pitt because they continue to yak to the press and continue to keep themselves in the spotlight, just like Aniston. If you take a look at actors who are actors and not ‘celebritys’- they have no problem staying out of the spotlight and live their life - it can be done, no matter how much they do for humanitarian causes, they still do it without trying to get the applause to feed their ego. There are many actors who do the same and are not salivating at the mouth for the attention.

Anyone who has a problem with the above as written (as the 3 posters listed above do), is bottomline, NOT a fan, do not belong here and are being disingenuous with the other fans who post here. They are fanistons in disguise, or at the very least Pitt fans who for some odd reason loathe Angie. Hence, they like it when she gets fucked over in the press. They’ll very often play this charade and pretend to be fans of the family - but most often they are very gleeful when Angelina takes a hit. I really don’t know how to say what I want to say……which is quiet surprising actually but here goes……I’m not sure what is going on but lately we seem to be picking on one another and sometimes these things get resolved between the parties and sometimes it doesn’t and I totally understand that it is the nature of life. However, is it possible that for us to correct another fan without treating them like they are just one of the crazies that come here with their inane post? It’s been months
now and I believe or hope that we kind of “recognize” who is who by now and that in it self should be all the credibility we need. We don’t have to agree all the time….after all, we are not robots set to think a certain way. This is what I believe, The man is a joke. Half the time, I don’t remember he exist until his name is mentioned annd it registers for like two seconds and puff it’s gone. I think I’ve spent more time thinking about DT since last night than I have spent in the past 3-4yrs. I don’t watch his show because he does not appeal to me in any way, shape or form. The few times I think of him, the words pontificating idiot comes to mind. Donald Trump should be the last person to talk about any one’s marital situation. Donald Trump should be the last person to put anyone down based on their sexual experiences. I know he is egocentric but I’d like to believe that he knows he has no say when it comes to relationship. I mean come on…..this is the same man that said if his daughter (I forget her name) wasn’t his, he’d date her. Huh….can we all say sick? Does this mean he’s thought of her in that context…..how did she go from Daddy’s little girl to Daddy’s ideal for a date in his mind? So why should we give this man more press when this is exactly what he wants? Of course, I am not saying don’t do anything because what DT did was uncalled for, which is why I wrote to CNN. I know times are changing but I give or should I say gave CNN enough credit not to join the ranks of the sensationalized news network out there. I saw the segment and it was just trash. I am disappointed in Larry King, I used to believe he was one of the few anchors with credibility but I guess senility is setting in. First of, I can’t believe they had “The foley Scandal, Angelina Jolie……” On the little bar at the bottom of the screen. This implied they were actually making her one of the topic of discussion. This wasn’t a discussion that just came by, DT went on CNN to discuss her, my question is why? Is he some expert on what makes AJ tick? Does he know her personally? Has he written a book, had her on his show….done anything at all with this woman? How will CNN and Larry King justify giving a pompous fool the platform to spew hate? They can’t and this is what I have a problem with. DT for whatever reason had an ax to grind and CNN and Larry King gave him a medium. If he had made the comments on his show, I won’t care……I doubt I’ll even hear about it but he went on CNN and made comments like “she’s slept with more men than I have with women.” What is this….Jerry Springer? How does he know? Was he in the room with her when she slept with those men? What he just did is akin to slander. And let’s not forget that this is a man who lauds Paris Hilton….a girl who became famous because of a sex tape and Donald Trump praises her? At least we now understand what yard stick he used to measure AJ and if Paris is the good end of that stick I vote that Angelina Jolie be the baddest of all the bads.
In my opinion, CNN and Larry King are the issue here not Donald Trump.

I totally understand how you feel however If you had watched the repeat of Larry King late night, you would not have even wasted your energy. Why? well reading the transcript and actually seeing him say it came across differently. Reading it seemed more hash & vicious. when you actually saw the interview, Trump with his clownish red hair with fresh combover, looked and sounded as ridiculous as Tom Cruise did blasting Brooke Sheilds. Larry King tried to change the subject but Trump sayed on his agenda, Angelina. It looked so stupid because why is he talking about Angelina, someone he doesn’t know? He doesn’t know Brad either. But the coup de grace was his fawing & gushing about Paris Hilton! It’s well known that he’s very good friends with Paris’ parents and has known her since she was a child. But his praising about how she’s is a very smart woman for creating a brand and the brilliant marketing of that brand is genius. WTF? What’s her brand? The roast beef with a side of stupidity that she’s been showing all over the internet for the past couple of years? He lauded the fact that clubs pay her to show up at their place for publicity. Well prostitiutes must have a great brand also since people pay them to have sex. You could only feel pity for him. He was jealous that the most anticpated celeb baby was Shiloh and not his son Baron. Remember this is a man who has diarrhea of the mouth and said recently that he would have dated his daughter if she weren’t his daughter. Don’t pay him any mind. He throws around the fact that he’s wealthy but there are many individuals that have more than he does…like our Mayor Bloomberg for instance.

I really don’t know how to say what I want to say……which is quiet surprising actually but here goes……I’m not sure what is going on but lately we seem to be picking on one another and sometimes these things get resolved between the parties and sometimes it doesn’t and I totally understand that it is the nature of life. However, is it possible that for us to correct another fan without treating them like they are just one of the crazies that come here with their inane post? It’s been months
now and I believe or hope that we kind of “recognize” who is who by now and that in it self should be all the credibility we need. We don’t have to agree all the time….after all, we are not robots set to think a certain way. It is all about opinions and even though most of the time, we are in agreement, let’s allow for a difference in opinion. It’s very uncomfortable
to see one fan jumping down another fans’s throat just because they don’t agree with them on a particular topic….when the day before, they were both on the same page. We have enough hate coming our way, we don’t need to generate it amongst ourselves. I agree, AG. I think as Jen’s star continues to wane we will see less and less of her fans around, and we have to remember that everyone who says things against B&A isn’t automatically a faniston. I think a bit of healthy debate is good, and most people here keep it that way. Let’s try an approach it as an opportunity to enlighten someone. If they don’t agree after a couple of posts, then just agree to disagree. There’s no need to hammer away too long on a moot point. Sometimes it’s best to just walk away, LOL! Excellent post AG - and I would hope you could forward that on to LK/CNN as well…if AJ was actually on the banner — this is even more of a premeditated hit job, designed IMO, to as I said before, deflect from his association with the Foley matter (in a post that is bizarrely being slammed by certain people this morning). Why LK let him get away with that is anyone’s guess - now he wasn’t as much of an enabler as I thought - it could have been a strategy of let’s give him so much rope, ya know? Like after the vitriolic diatribe that was literally all over the place, LK just says very little and ‘I gathered as much’ when Trump says, ‘I don’t like her very much.’ Yet and still the reasons for the dislike were unclear, if it’s because he’s such pals with Voight (which I DOUBT), why would he then turn around and essentially call the man’s own daughter ‘unattractive?’
It was a hot mess, and yes can indeed be dismissed as an almost crazed ranting. But that makes it no less offensive - and I still want to insure the likelihood of it happening again gets greatly reduced.

I disagree with some of you saying Brad and Angie are seeking Publicity-It’s the opposite-the publicity is seeking, hunting, tracking them-Please be fair-These two don’t call paps and tell them where they will be-they do not send pics to the media-they are truly trying to live their lives-One picture of them-even if they are doing mundane things is enough to send 4 kids to college-so the Paps are always on them-I think it is an unfair assessement to accuse them of seeking publicty-How would you suggest they do their jobs and live their lives?

makes it great. I love those old movies, and how much better the
writing was. This one isn’t that old, but another with great writing
that I can see Brad doing something similar is The Sting. What a

Okay…I’m going to give you the “most beautiful woman”…but I’m on the Cate Blanchett boat for “most gifted actress of her time”. There’s only about 5 or 6 years difference between Cate and Angie and I’ll put my money on Cate. Angie throws herself into roles more than any other actress…but I don’t consider her to be more gifted than Blanchett. As this month’s cover story in Premiere mag pointed out, CB is considered to be the current equal of Meryl Streep. And the only actress ever better than Meryl Streep is Kate The Great.

Casting Angie for this role is more for the essence of who she is than the way she looked. Neither Halle nor Thandie has the essence to pull this Marianne character off. She and Angie has more in common than she does Halle.

I was one of those people who made fun of Brad for creating a film company with what SEEMED TO BE the express purpose of finding roles for X. And the funny thing is that once he got the company up and running and started buying projects…it became increasingly obvious that the company WAS NOT strictly for the benefit of X, but that it was meant as a means of braching out from acting with the possible intent of quitting acting altogether. When I first saw that Brad had acquired the rights to this book my first thought was, “Ah, ****. Please don’t tell me he’s going to put that hack wife of his in this movie!” Afterwards I read Brad’s comment that he did not intend for him and X to star in the movie and I was eternally grateful that X hadn’t squeezed all the brains out of the man. The irony of course is that X was said to not like the direction the company was taking and that it was growing to fast, ie, The Brads were buying projects that she knew she didn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of being a part of and she didn’t like it!
Now, lo and behold, Brad has a hot production company that he’s the sole owner of and a wife who can actually act! So, yeah, if he wants to cast Angie in any project that his company takes on, then go for it. Angie can be so many different things on-screen…and X couldn’t even shine her freaking shoes.

I liked Lainey’s column too…not everything is a conspiracy, but I think she IS right that Brad’s star has been restored from whatever tarnish it MIGHT have had as a result of his divorce. OMG! Indie thank you so much for that. I was really pissed for that comment too. I was trying to find the interview that Brad said that neither of them will play any role in the movie. It was posted here before. But then again X make it seem that way by saying “I would love to try” and stuff like that for her own reasons. People need to get over questioning the casting. If Marianne doesn’t have a problem with it I don’t think there’s anymore to say. It be different if she was up in arms, but she’s happy about the casting so I don’t think anyone can criticize that.
I do disagree with the comment that Thandie Newton doesn’t have the stage presence to pull it off. She does have it, the thing Angelina has is that her and Pitt work very well together. They have really good chemistry and the ability to play off of one another. Though Pitt is just producing and not directing, being able to collaborate directly with the producer will surely influence the director and work to produce a really great film IMO.
That said, the role choice for many is going to be contraversial because people look at Marianne and automatically assume they know her racial make-up. Honestly, I couldn’t tell where Marianne was from at all, so no that people are saying she’s “Black” I’m kind of surprised.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have made a $100,000 donation to the Daniel Pearl Foundation in memory of the American journalist who was kidnapped and eventually killed in Pakistan in February of 2002, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.
The gift, made through the recently formed Jolie-Pitt Foundation, was presented on Tuesday, which would have been the late Wall Street Journal reporter’s 43rd birthday.
“On this day our thoughts go out to Danny’s family.” Pitt and Jolie said in an exclusive statement released by their rep, Trevor Neilson, to PEOPLE. “The Daniel Pearl Foundation is celebrating this day, his birthday, with music festivals around the world. The festivals are a great reminder of not just Danny’s work as a journalist but of his life and his love of music.”
Pitt and Jolie arrived last week in Pune, India, to film the Pearl biopic, A Mighty Heart, based on the book written by the journalist’s widow, Mariane Pearl, whom Jolie portrays in the film.
At the time of his death, Pearl was investigating links between the terrorist group Al Qaeda and Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence.
Pitt and Jolie formed their foundation last month in order to give away $2 million, to be evenly divided between the Global Action for Children and Doctors Without Borders, to help families affected by HIV/AIDS and extreme poverty.

So it was the second ‘tuk-tuk’ ride that Brangelina had in Pune, this time only being mobbed by the media. As Brangelina went for their second ride in a rickshaw on Sunday afternoon, it is learnt that they were “fully aware” that they would not miss shutterbugs. Why they did it then is a mystery. It could have been a problem for them as well as there was no real security system as they moved around the city for 20 minutes in a rickshaw. It is believed that the couple wanted to give a chance to the media to have them clicked so that “constant harassment to them is reduced.”
It seems to have worked as the media presence had a definite decline in the lobby of Le Meridien on Sunday evening after their rickshaw ride. “It’s okay now. We have got the pictures,” said a media photographer. There was a huge cheer and satisfaction among media professionals who had been waiting for hours and hours together to have a glimpse of the celebrity couple. “I am very happy for that girl (a TV journalist). Yesterday she kept waiting throughout the night in the lobby to have some luck with them. She appeared very tired but waited patiently,” said a hotel manager about a TV journalist in the lobby.
In the evening, we saw Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in a relaxed mood, having a meeting with Hollywood actor Dan Futterman, who plays Daniel Pearl in the film A Mighty Heart. The meeting which lasted for about two hours took place on the fifth floor VIP lobby of Le Meridien. Futterman then came back in the lobby at about eleven and made a quick exit. He is staying at Taj Blue Diamond Hotel, a couple of minutes drive from Le Meridien.
Sources suggest that Brangelina now “expect some privacy by the media now that they have made a public appearance of sorts.” The couple generally stick to the fifth floor and and are “very simple and nice people,” as staff at the hotel say. They order either Indian or Continental food and are also carrying their own food, “which they also have regularly,” said a hotel staff.
It is learnt that the couple had been maintaining a low profile mainly because Brad Pitt is very protective about his family. They are expected to be more social and visible as days go by. “You can’t blame Brad for it. This is the first time they are coming to India. They have no friends here. He is right in being protective about his family,” said a source. But why have they been shying away from the media so much? “No, it is not the media at all.
The subject of the movie A Mighty Heart is such that they are taking care that they understand the city a little before making some public appearances. They just want to be sure that there is no security problem. They are perfectly fine with the media,” said the source. Regarding Brangelina making any public appearance, the source said that “it will be very few even if it is. That too, they will do a lot of homework before making any visit anywhere for understandable reasons.” Angelina is expected to be making very few visits anywhere as she will be busy with shooting (she is acting in the film) and her new-born baby. “When they had come, they were a little unsettled with the climate change, but now they are adjusting well,” a hotel employee said.
Meanwhile, some members of the production team of A Mighty Heart went out on Saturday evening at a nightclub in Pune and had a ball. “They preferred the regular stuff the DJ was playing and made no special requests of any sorts. They were mainly sticking to each other,” said a club staff.
The shooting of the film began on Monday. Work has been going on in full steam at Sindh Society in Aundh where the shooting is taking place. Were the couple anxious after their ‘tuk-tuk ride’? “Not really. They were pretty okay,” said a security staff.
