OlderFIRST LOOK: Angelina Jolie as Mariane Pearl in ‘A Mighty Heart’
Angelina Jolie plays Mariane, widow of the Wall Street Journal reporter, who was murdered by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002 while researching a story on the links between “shoe bomber” Richard Reid and Islamic spiritual leader Sheikh Mubarak Gilani. Mariane was pregnant with their child (inset) when her husband was kidnapped.
Jolie said in a weekend statement that she was disappointed not to be filming in Pakistan, “a country I love and have visited three times.” But security concerns pushed the filming to the western Indian city of Pune, which was chosen because it resembles Karachi, Pakistan.

UPDATE :: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie donated $100,000 to the Daniel Pearl Foundation through the recently formed Jolie-Pitt Foundation. Brad and Angie released this statement: “On this day our thoughts go out to Danny’s family. The Daniel Pearl Foundation is celebrating this day, his birthday, with music festivals around the world. The festivals are a great reminder of not just Danny’s work as a journalist but of his life and his love of music.”

when they met? What do her parents do? How did she and Daniel

How are you all faring this fine day? Good I hope….so I finally caught up with the thread and boy oh boy, we sure had some fiesty ones didn’t we. You know what was funny to me as I read all the posts about casting AJ as MP…..not very long ago, we had to defend AJ from posters who were insisting she was really black or had some black blood in her. Angelina Jolie is part black, these people wailed…..anyone remember this? Why won’t she admit it? It is so obvious, look at her features for goodness sake, her lips….don’t they just scream black…..they banged on and on, bring them to the conclusion that AJ was ashamed of being a black person. Lol…..I know! And we said if AJ was a black woman, she’d embraces her heritage….unlike someone I won’t mention. So you all can imagine my mirth when I read these comments now “why are the letting a white woman play a black woman?”. What happened to the theory that she had black people’s features? I bring this up because it goes with the belief that AGAIN, this not about race, it is about AJ and BP. I am begining to think that some people out there have decided that no matter what AJ and BP do, the opposite is the right way. So when they donate quitely, it is wrong….what are they hiding, did they really make any donation? Then their donations are made public and it What?!! Show offs, why can’t they keep it quite? This has been the pattern for the past year and the half and it will continue to be. By the way, why isn’t anyone making a big deal about the fact that HALLE BERRY IS PLAYING A WHITE WOMAN? Not a bi-racial woman (which is what Ms. Berry is) but a WHITE woman. I’ll tell you why…..because she is not Angelina Jolie.
Look I have no objection with anyone playing anything because at the end of the day, it is the message of the story that matters.

True , Brad is a producer , perhaps one of the producers in this movie. Notice, before the title of the movie appears on the movie screen, you will find 2 or 3 or perhaps more movie production co.
splash in the screen. These co. poured money , help financed the movie. You’ll think Brad is crazy to put all his money in this movie.?
Understand that these financiers want a GOOD RETURN for their money. So it is not up to Brad alone to make the decisions.
So now we come to AJ as the choice. Hot ., yes, talent, oh ,yes! None of the actresses mentioned except H. Berry comes close to being internationally known. THis movie is being produced for international viewing as Brad said ,for cross culture understanding.

Looking at the first pic. from the movie, AJ will be fine. Just like DENZEL was as JULIUS CEASAR on BROADWAY stage in NY.

GREAT POST!!! Yes, I think if someone is clearly wrong physically
for a role, it makes a difference, but a few shades of skin tone are
not an issue. Just as the fact that Tom Cruise is short, but he
plays action heros, or Rock Hudson was gay but played romantic
leading men. When I saw the pic of Angie, I saw marianne Pearl, I
didn’t see a white woman in blackface. It’s what she is able to
project that matters. Is she believale in the role of a woman in
Pakisan searching for her husband’s killers? Probably more so than
any actress I can think of.
Remember Da Truth: You don’t like Like CLINIQUA POST DO YOU?. I think, I could be wrong, that this is not the first time you were critical and judgemental on some of her post. You try and portray yourself as reasonable and CLINIQUA as unreasonable,the more you post on this matter the more I see you as a judgemental ,I think you are a little jealous of the respect CLINIQUA GET ON THIS BOARD and of her popularity. And let’s not forget Charlize Theron who played an ugly and fat woman in Monster and Nicole kidman who was unrecognizable in The Hours with that hair and the prosthetic nose.They are both very beautiful women who changed dramatically their appearence to play those roles.And they won the Oscar for their acting.And there are so many other examples in film history.So i don’t really get what exactly is the problem.

I’m quite stunned why this ‘color of Mariane’s skin’ is still an issue.
A Chinese actress played a Japanese Geisha, causing some waves
but she was an Asian as well–same color of the skin as Japanese.
That means Halle nor anyone black won’t be good enough either.
Producers need to find Cuban-Dutch-French actress then.
The criticsm is not about Jolie’s race, but the haters finding about
something to rant. Jolie is perfect for the role because as I said
before, she understands Mariane as a mother, wife, gone through
pregnancy, and sharing concerns for Pakistan and causes she and
Daniel Pearl believed in. Halle maybe a good actress has less in
common with the life of Mariane. Truly, Jolie is PERFECT.

Last night someone said that probably they released a pic of Angie as Mariane so the race talk will be worn out by the time of the released, and I agree, better now so in the next months the discussion will center about the movie and not angie.
