OlderFIRST LOOK: Angelina Jolie as Mariane Pearl in ‘A Mighty Heart’
Angelina Jolie plays Mariane, widow of the Wall Street Journal reporter, who was murdered by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002 while researching a story on the links between “shoe bomber” Richard Reid and Islamic spiritual leader Sheikh Mubarak Gilani. Mariane was pregnant with their child (inset) when her husband was kidnapped.
Jolie said in a weekend statement that she was disappointed not to be filming in Pakistan, “a country I love and have visited three times.” But security concerns pushed the filming to the western Indian city of Pune, which was chosen because it resembles Karachi, Pakistan.

UPDATE :: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie donated $100,000 to the Daniel Pearl Foundation through the recently formed Jolie-Pitt Foundation. Brad and Angie released this statement: “On this day our thoughts go out to Danny’s family. The Daniel Pearl Foundation is celebrating this day, his birthday, with music festivals around the world. The festivals are a great reminder of not just Danny’s work as a journalist but of his life and his love of music.”

Cliniqua, it’s fine with me if the tabloids want to continue with this VV story. Why shouldn’t he get his share of wrath for faking this whole relationship. Plus, it’s a little bit harder for the tabloids to keep saying Brad is calling X since he’s in India with his family. lol
#800: danielle, let me tell you why Thandie, Maya or Jennifer B weren’t chosen to play the part…they don’t have the star power that Angelina has!
Producers usually go with stars who can pack people into theaters. In the end, it’s all about business! Now Marianne approving Angie to play her is a bonus!
But then again you might say that Halle Berry is a star…not just that but an Oscar winning actress.
Well, it’s still a business decision because even though Halle Berry is all that, her movies hadn’t been Box Office lately. She’s had duds the same as Angelina, but Angelina is on top of her game now. They’ve got to capitalize on her popularity nowadays. (Add the fact that her partner is also the producer. He wants her in it and there ain’t nothing you can do about that!)
I have almost decided not to write a comment on the thread of the Jolie-Pitts. Because I have been reading the comments in last 24hours one by one. Most of you are supporting this person because this person is passionate about Angie, Brad and their family or finding excuses to the aggressive behaviour of this person.
Let me tell you if I understood you correctly:
To be passionate about someone whom you are fan of is
to swear,
to call the others with insulting names (to the one who only say calm down),
to attack the others in a cheap way,
to be vulgar to anyone who doesn’t support your opinion,
accuse the others for not being who they say that they are without any proof,
to be rude towards others
Did I understand you right?
Being obsessive is surely not being passionate.

A plane which I think is just like what Angelina has just crashed into a high rise apartment building in the East End of NY. The pilot was a baseball player named Cory Glidell or something. Everybody thought it was a terrorist attack at first.
Now, the passengers were supposed to bail out on parachutes but they said that the people on that place hasn’t had time to react.
I hope Angelina learns of this so she could take better precautious measure before flying. It’s the same plane that she flies around in. They’re now saying that is why pilots of SR-20s like this need to renew their certificate every year. They’re also saying that the parachutes happen to have limitations.
#1027: corrections please. The plane is supposed to be supported by a parachute should they have trouble in the air. However, because of the engine problem, they hadn’t time to react. The plane just slammed into the 20th floor of the expensive condos by the East River. Well, now they’re saying it’s the 30th floor. Four units have already been engulfed by the fire. There were no survivors from the plane.
I keep reading about people who object to Angelina playing Marianne because she looks black and she does have some black blood in her and Angelina doesn’t.
But do people like “SR” and “Michelle” understand that this movie is not about a black woman losing a white husband. It’s about a woman who lost her husband because he was a reporter who was in Pakistan and got beheaded by the Pakistanis. It didn’t make her pain any greater or less just because she looks Black and had a white husband. And how that would not affect how Angelina portrays those emotions. Do you understand that this movie is not about a Black/Puerto Rican/ Chinese/ French woman who was look for justice for the death of her White husband? This is about a woman who was pregnant and went in search of finding the justice for her husband.
Jennifer Lopez, a Puerto Rican playing Selena, a Mexican is a different story because in the movie, it did deal with how there is a prejudice against Mexicans. And how Selena’s father was a Mexican who worked in America to support his family and their financial situation was poor because they were Mexican immigrants and trying to make it in America.
Kirsten Dunst getting flack for playing a French queen would bring flack also because their is long history between Americans and the French and it isn’t the greatest. So for her to play one of the most well known French figuers from history and getting criticized for is understandable.
My point is that the movie about Selena and Marie Antoinette does have to do with their ethnicity, race and the country they are from.
The story of Marianne Pearl is about a pregnant woman who lost her husband and was trying to find justice. Those people who killed Daniel Pearl killed him because he was an American Journalist. As far as I know Futterman and Jolie are both Americans. And Angelina Jolie is part French like Marianee Pearl, so she would be able to pull off a French accent. Also because she is a mom and just give birth herself, she can relate Marianne being pregnant back when she was in Pakistan looking for Pearl’s killers.
Renee Zellwegger didn’t get flack for playing a Brit in Bridget Jones’ diary.
Halle Berry is not getting flack for playing a White woman in an upcoming movie.
These women are not being criticized and neither should Angelina Jolie.

So why did Jolie decide to wear make up if the race isn’t important? She could have just done without. Halle Berry isn’t wearing “whiteface” make up in her movie. Renee Zellwegger is not crossing racial boundaries in her movies.
she looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!! i think everyone should cut her some slack, she’s doing the movie to bring daniel pearl’s story to light :)
