OlderFIRST LOOK: Angelina Jolie as Mariane Pearl in ‘A Mighty Heart’
Angelina Jolie plays Mariane, widow of the Wall Street Journal reporter, who was murdered by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002 while researching a story on the links between “shoe bomber” Richard Reid and Islamic spiritual leader Sheikh Mubarak Gilani. Mariane was pregnant with their child (inset) when her husband was kidnapped.
Jolie said in a weekend statement that she was disappointed not to be filming in Pakistan, “a country I love and have visited three times.” But security concerns pushed the filming to the western Indian city of Pune, which was chosen because it resembles Karachi, Pakistan.

UPDATE :: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie donated $100,000 to the Daniel Pearl Foundation through the recently formed Jolie-Pitt Foundation. Brad and Angie released this statement: “On this day our thoughts go out to Danny’s family. The Daniel Pearl Foundation is celebrating this day, his birthday, with music festivals around the world. The festivals are a great reminder of not just Danny’s work as a journalist but of his life and his love of music.”

OMG! Angie just takes my breath away…she looks so much like
Marianne P! IMO, there are few actors who can inhabit a role so
intensely, that even without much help from makeup, they can
actually make the viewer see them exactly as the character they
are portraying. With this one picture, Angie has definitely laid to
rest some of the doubts about taking on this role. I cannot wait to
see this movie! She is truly the most beautiful woman, and most
gifted actress of her time.

Let me make it easy for all the haters and non-haters who don’t think Angelina Jolie is right for the role. DON’T SEE THE MOVIE. Its pretty easy. Take your $10 and go see something else. Isn’t it grand how life sometimes provides easy solutions to problems.

This role is not about race, she isnt playing Coretta Scott King or Rosa Parks. If Keanu Reeves can play Buddha and Ben Kingley can play Ghandi..then there should be nothing said about Angelina playing Marianne Pearl.

To me its a non issue. A Mighty Heart comes out in 2007 and like every other year before there will be lots and lots of movies to choose from. If you don’t want to see A Mighty Heart because Angie’s in it, because you already know the ending, or because it might make you cry, etc. then you can pick something else. Its not brain surgery.
