FIRST LOOK: Angelina Jolie as Mariane Pearl in ‘A Mighty Heart’
Angelina Jolie plays Mariane, widow of the Wall Street Journal reporter, who was murdered by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002 while researching a story on the links between “shoe bomber” Richard Reid and Islamic spiritual leader Sheikh Mubarak Gilani. Mariane was pregnant with their child (inset) when her husband was kidnapped.
Jolie said in a weekend statement that she was disappointed not to be filming in Pakistan, “a country I love and have visited three times.” But security concerns pushed the filming to the western Indian city of Pune, which was chosen because it resembles Karachi, Pakistan.
WOWOWOWOW!!!!!!!!!!! Here is the very first movie still of Angelina Jolie in the role of Mariane Pearl in A Mighty Heart (2007). The film is shooting in Pune, India and is based on the 2003 book A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl, by Mariane Pearl. More pictures in the gallery of Mariane, Daniel, and son Adam Pearl. A big thanks to oldie!!
UPDATE :: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie donated $100,000 to the Daniel Pearl Foundation through the recently formed Jolie-Pitt Foundation. Brad and Angie released this statement: “On this day our thoughts go out to Danny’s family. The Daniel Pearl Foundation is celebrating this day, his birthday, with music festivals around the world. The festivals are a great reminder of not just Danny’s work as a journalist but of his life and his love of music.”

why are some mentioning Alicia Keys(isnt she a singer?) and Halle Berry for the part as if they would be more suited? They arent of the same ethnic background as Marianne Pearl either.
Great pics Jared. Thanks so very much!
121 | ntt |….i know…can you imagine all the abuse this couple received during those early months of their relationship??? man…if this couple are not really in love with each other…they gave up long time ago but they didn’t and now their family is growing and i become one of their die hard fans
126 | Montserrat …..long time no hear… just reminiscing the olden days… can you imagine those days and now at present…. woooweee!!! :)
127 | Maniston … why the shade???
Good night BAMZS Fans. Its way past my bed time. Try not to get into it with the haters. All you need to do is remember 2 things.
1. Halle Berry’s next role is playing Tierney Cahill, a real live WHITE woman. The movie is called A Class Act but for some reason people don’t have a problem with it. Double standard, maybe?
2. If they have a problem with Angie playing Mariane Pearl (even though Mariane herself doesn’t have a problem with it) then remind them to exercise their right NOT to see the movie.
See. How easy is that? No need to argue.
MAGNIFICENT BEAUTY!!
Oh ,how i adore you Almighty,
For YOU have called her
To be of servant
For all your unfortunate & neglected children
You made her so BEAUTIFUL inside & outside
A lovely STAR shining intense

Goodnight all!
136 | Maniston …nitey nite and ITA…no one is forcing anyone to go and watch this movie…so to those that don’t agree with the casting, STFU….it’s already a done deal and you can’t do nothing about it…..my chickie babe is the right leading actress….jealous much, hmmmm???
I will support Angelina 100% when this movie comes out. I heard it will be out on 2007. Could it be Angelina will in turn be at the Toronto Film Festival next year? Hmmm.
As I was looking at Angie’s pic, loking like Marianne, I wondered if Mad, Zee, and Shi saw her looking like that. I’d love to have witnessed their reactions to their mommy. I wonder if they will be able to recognize her.
137 | Missouri Fan….hi ate char, how’s little Bradley??? please give him hugs and kisses from his cyber aunt, jjoy :)
Wow, wow, wow, wowow….no way, she looks so great as MP, oh my goodness, I’m speechless, great make-up. Thank you JJ for another wonderful thread.
I just can’t help but think that there are better actress of color who could’ve played Marianne. Now, I know you guys will bring up Halle, but can you name another actress of color who has portrayed a character based on real life that was Caucasian?
Now, I’m not saying that I don’t love Angie because I do and she looks good with the hair, but it’s the principle. Caucasian actors have longed played roles of real life figures who are clearly from another race. Since there are SO few roles for minorities in Hollywood, would it kill to give this role to someone like Thandie Newton, who looks and will be able to do Marianne justice?
However, I will admit that Jennifer Aniston, a woman who doesn’t look ANYTHING like Marianne and who gets roles based on sheer ambition rather than real talent, is a far worse choice.
Great transformation. I find both of these ladies absolutely gorgeous. I can’t even imagine what Marianne had to go through.

Marianne wanted Angie. Simple as that.
To Elena:
Dear friend, I’m at the Gate of Prayer-
Right now, this very hour -
Petitioning our God of love
To touch you with His power…
To show His grace and love anew
At this time in your life,
A fresh reminder of His care
In times of pain and strife.
I pray He’ll also show to you
A glimpse of deeper things -
A precious part of His own heart
To cause your own to sing.
Great thruths are oftentimes revealed
Through sufferings endured;
Look back on what He’s done before..
Of His strength you are ensured.
And finally, I pray for peace,
For such are seeds you’ve sown,
And healing salve for one who has
A heart much like my own.
With my sincere love,
MF

144 | snowballa ….the thing is not about the actual resemblance or the skin color but who will be the best to portray Marianne….I agree Thandie is a good actress but do you think that if she is chosen to act in this movie, there will be a buzz about it??? nothing against Thandie but she is not Angie…you know what i mean….Angie is famous and infamous depends on your perception of her….either you love her or hate her and i love her….so????
142 | Hi jjoy! , adorable liltle Bradley. Will do a lot of forehead kisses from cyber Aunt jjoy..
Good night all . May God bless us ALL..
snowball - in the grand scheme of things, it is not the principle.
this role was given to Angelina by Marianne and approved by her the family of the deceased Mr.Pearl…meaning they were looking at a hella of alot more than race as PRINCIPLE!.
The Pearl family and Jolie-Pitt are interested in showing the things that unite us as human beings rather than those that divide us - that is THE PRINCIPLE they are following.

I suppose I can’t argue with that. I just wished that other black or biracial actresses were considered in the role which I can say didn’t happen since Brad’s company immediately snapped up the rights to the book and he had Jennifer Aniston in the role. Now, I am a fan of Brad Pitt, but he makes it seem that he would’ve casted whoever he was ******* at the time.
I thought the same way of Renee Zellweger in “Bridget Jones’ Diary.” Why not hire a slightly overweight British actress to play her and then make her lose weight? I understand it’s about getting a star, but a lot of Brits weren’t happy about seeing a Brit played by an American, especially since it’s hard for Brits to make the crossover into Hollywood. It’s not a big deal when an American is being played by a Brit because there are so many American actors/actresses out there that we can spread the wealth.
Anyhoo, Angie do your thing, girl.
150 | kearnie ….that too….this film is about unity between races and different religion….not about the skin color…..
damn!!!! almost went to straight bed, ALMOST, but something told me to check Jared, and viola!! these movie stills are awesome!!! i can’t believe that’s her! what an amazing transformation, i had no idea they were gonna do all that with makeup, unbelieveable. i can’t wait for this movie!!!!!
151 | snowballa …. i totally disagree about ja getting this role….this role is not written for ja…and we are not going to go back to jen got cheated of her oscar role again….so please stop there…..thank you!!!

Renee did a great job as Bridget Jones and won the Brits over. Same with Gwyneth Paltow in Emma.
These are actors Sometimes the least obvious choice initially is the best choice in the end.
Most actors of all ethnic groups are unemployed. there are only a few stars in this world.
Angie is a star!
It’s not the racial origin but her experience as a mother, being
pregnant, having a man she loves, giving birth, being a
professional woman supporting her husband’s work, all the LIFE
EXPERIENCE counts to portray someone. Halle is a good actress
but she doesn’t fit the bill, and my goodness gracious,
CERTAINLY NOT Aniston. She can’t relate to any of these wide
range of emotions having experienced none.
hey, that pic #10 looks like it was taken at UCLA where his father works/worked. yeah, sorry for the off topic ness
