Angelina Jolie Reads “Crimes of War”
Angelina Jolie was just snapped reading “Crimes of War: What the Public Should Know” by Roy Gutman. Angelina, 31, was spotted reading the book on her way to the set of her upcoming film A Mighty Heart‘ in Pune, India. A Mighty Heart is about American journalist Daniel Pearl who was slain by terrorists in Pakistan four years ago. Angelina plays Daniel’s widow Mariane, on whose book of the same name the film is based upon.

My question is are they LIGHTENING or coloring white Halle Berry? And besides she is HALF WHITE! Her mom is white! Angelina is in no way Afro-Cuban/Dutch like Marianne Pearl. And Halle Berry clearly cannot come off as a purely white woman just like Angelina cannot come off ANYTHING black! WHAT PEOPLE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IS THAT THEY DARKENED OR COLORED ANGELINA TO LOOK LIKE A PERSON OF COLOR? WHY DID THEY DO THAT WHEN THEY COULD HAVE GOTTEN AN ACTUAL PERSON OF COLOR THEN? People don’t have problem with Angelina playing Marianne! But they have a problem with the fact that if they were gonna get someone to look exactly like Marianne, why didn’t they get a woman of color? OTHERWISE, they should have just left Angelina alone and let her look more like herself! IF IT WAS SO MUCH ABOUT THE STORY AND NOT THE SKIN COLOR OR HAIR TYPE! If people watch this movie, and don’t know what Marianne looks like, THEY’RE GOING TO THINK SHE’S HISPANIC OR SOME OTHER RACE, BECAUSE EVEN WITH MAKEUP ANGELINA CLEARLY DOES NOT LOOK ANYTHING AFRICAN/ BLACK-MIXED.

Oh I wont be watching this movie. I will not be supporting this movie and so aren’t alot of other people. Unfortunately, you have people who are looking at Angelina and not Marianne Pearl, which will cause people to not want to see this movie because they’ll think this was bad casting, whether Angelina pulls it off or not. Her past & reputation will overcome Marianne’s story. I would want someone who was respectable not an actor with such a shaky past.

Jeez, you are absent for a day and you miss a lot. That quittingof job things is sounding pretty good right now. So many good posts I don’t even know where to start. First I can NOT believe JA is going on Oprah *shakes head*. Why? Why? Duh the woman she is playing is a mixed woman that is why Halle Berry would be a better selection for the role. One of the perks for shacking up with a then married man! Sheesh, are we still on this “Angelina being darkened taking away from the story” kick? Some people are just so dense they don’t even want to lsiten to facts. Charlize Theron, a very beautiful woman, was uglified for her role in Monster (and she won an Academy Award for it) and was also made plain in North Country. Did it take away from her performance that she was wearing a lot of makeup? What about Nicole Kidman in The Hours with her fake nose? Didn’t she convince people that she was a plain woman (and she also won an Academy Award). Both of them wore heavy makeup/prosthetics for their roles — and won acclaim. How come Angelina is being maligned to such a degree just because she is playing the role of a biracial woman WHO ACTUALLY APPROVED of her acting as MP? Some people hate so much that it is bordering on obsessive!
And lastly, why no outcry re Halle Berry playing a white woman in Class Action?

Just to reiterate my post from last night MARIANE PEARL did appear on Oprah promoting A Mighty heart during her book tour. Some on the X thread were blasting Oprah for not having her on. You all may not like Oprah but she doesn’t sleep.

Okay, would it matter IF THEY CASTED AN ASIAN WOMAN INSTEAD? AND LET’S GO EVEN FURTHUR AND “DARKEN” THIS ASIAN WOMAN TO LOOK MORE LIKE MARIANNE and THE HAIR AS WELL. And next time they cast a person in a movie as an Asian man or woman, let’s put some plaster or aesthetics or makeup on the eyes and make them look slanted, and widen the nose a bit and get one of those wigs or relaxers to pin straight the hair. Does that make sense when there are so many good Asian actors out there? I think Asians are going to be disgusted by that! And I’m a little disturbed that black people out there dont find a problem with a WHITE woman portraying a black woman. Remember your history books of whites playing blacks. And Marianne is BLACK. I am assuming these same black people do not have a problem with the slang word “nigga” even though older black people have a problem with that slang version of the real deragatory word due to the hateful history connected with it and the suffering the older generation went through with that word and having it to hear it again amongst their children. How easily people deny their heritage by allowing a high attractive, rich, gorgeous, highly famous white woman to play a role with some coloring. History repeating itself, but in different ways that is considered “approved” by some.

You need to deal with your racist issues on your own time and with a very qualified therapist not on a BLOG. As someone allready pointed out this story is not about the color the womans skin its about her struggles during her pregnancy to find her kidnapped husband.

Donkeys slow down the paparazzi as they chase Angelina through the crowded streets of Pune

The paparazzi assembled at Pune are showing no signs of weakening. Yesterday a cluster of them, 20-odd packed into five cars and a few more in autorickshaws, chased Angelina Jolie all the way from Le Meridien to Aundh. Angelina didn’t appear too perturbed, as she sat with her head studiously tucked into the book, Crimes of War.
As they reached Aundh, however, both the chasers and the chased came up against a unique roadblock – a pack of donkeys. Everything came to a standstill then, and the photographers could get a picture. In the hurry to get ahead, however, one of the paparazzi cars dashed into a passing motorbike, overturning it and injuring the couple riding on it. Residents of Aundh, a normally sleepy suburb of Pune, mustn’t be too happy with the extravaganza unfolding in their backyard, anyway. Now there’s speeding paparazzi posing a risk to their life and limb…
Meanwhile, there’s also rivalry brewing between the paparazzi. Apparently, some of them who were in an auto and couldn’t get near enough Angelina’s Merc because the way was being blocked by another paparazzi car, flashed a knife at the photographers in the car.
The message is loud and clear. Anything for a sneak peak through the lens at Angelina Jolie.

If THAT alone takes away from the story for you, then I’m sorry but the story was never with you in the first place and this my friend, is the unfortunate thing here. Hey, don’t support the movie, it’s you 10 bucks afterall but leave the rest of us who will appreciate the movie regardless of color of skin, alone. Seriously….were you hoping to change our minds?
I think maybe at some point Marianne Pearl will have to make a
statement saying she didn’t realize she was black until all the
race-conscious Americans started telling her she was, and that
she wanted someone who understood the conditions in Pakistan
and the trauma she went through adn could convey it, and that
was Angelina Jolie. Maybe such a statement from Marianne Pearl
sometime closer to the release of the movie will help.

Young couple falls off bike as Jolie`s car passes by
Pune, Oct 11:
A young couple riding a motor-cycle fell off their vehicle after it skidded when hollywood actress Angelina Jolie was passing by in her car for a film shoot here this evening.
It is not immediately known whether the couple`s motor-cycle skidded because of the fault of the car driver, the cameraman of a television channel, who was chasing the hollywood actress` car, said.
No complaint has been registered with the police in connection with the incident, sources said.
According to the cameraman, the actress was heading towards Sindh Colony, the location for the shoot of the film “A Mighty Heart” based on slain American journalist Daniel Pearl.
Jolie, who is playing the role of mariane — wife of Pearl — was alone in the car at the time when the incident took place. Her companion and co-producer of the film Brad Pitt had stayed back at the five star hotel with their three children.
