I’m using some other people’s comments to explain this to you. Credit given to Piper, Passing Through, and some others who made some points that I meshed together. Hope nobody minds.

Halle Berry was lightened to play Queen, a mixed woman passing for White because her features and skin tone didn’t match the character. They should have gotten Jennifer Beals, but they didn’t. They could have even used Jasmine Guy who was upset that she didn’t get the lead role, but they didn’t because Halle had more star power. SO SHE WAS LIGHTENED LIKED ANGELINA WAS DARKENED YET THERE WAS NO OUTCRY THEN. Now Halle is going to be in a movie based on the real life story about a WHITE woman. Where is the outcry over Halle playing a white’ woman’s role. Even if Halle is not made to look white in her upcoming movies, she has been lightened in another movie.

It goes both ways. You didn’t see people complaining about Ben Kingsley playing Ghandi did you? And nobody complained when Anthony Hopkins, an old white guy, was cast as a black man passing for white in The Human Stain. And why did they put lighter makeup on Halle Berry when she starred in the miniseries ‘Queen’? The movie was about a slave girl who could pass for white; clearly Berry couldn’t pass for white, even with the makeup. Why not just hire a White woman? And what about DENZEL as JULIUS CEASAR on BROADWAY stage in NY..he did that part.

A Mighy Heart is about a woman who lost her husband; Angelina Jolie is clearly a woman; her race is only an issue to those who don’t want AJ associated with this project.

Marianne Pearl is Cuban, Jewish and dutch and raised in France - yes - her African lineage is obvious, but if SHE doesn’t call herself a ‘black’ woman or even more to the POINT, doesn’t feel that someone who shares that commonality with her HAS to play her in the film, then why are you chasing after her trying to induct her in the black woman’s club?? After all she approved of Angelina playing the part.

I don’t feel like I have the right to define Marianne Pearl. Marianne isn’t American and has a White father and therefore a whole different set of identity issues. It’s not for me to judge her based on how I choose to see her, it’s for her to derine herself and by agreeing with Angelina as the woman to play her, I think she’s spoken so I have nothing more to say about it.

I keep reading about people who object to Angelina playing Marianne because she looks black and she does have some black blood in her and Angelina doesn’t.

This movie is not about a black woman losing a white husband. It’s about a woman who lost her husband because he was a reporter who was in Pakistan and got beheaded by the Pakistanis. It didn’t make her pain any greater or less just because she looks Black and had a white husband. And how that would not affect how Angelina portrays those emotions. Do you understand that this movie is not about a Black/Puerto Rican/ Chinese/ French woman who was look for justice for the death of her White husband? This is about a woman who was pregnant and went in search of finding the justice for her husband.

Jennifer Lopez, a Puerto Rican playing Selena, a Mexican is a different story because in the movie, it did deal with how there is a prejudice against Mexicans. And how Selena’s father was a Mexican who worked in America to support his family and their financial situation was poor because they were Mexican immigrants and trying to make it in America.

Kirsten Dunst getting flack for playing a French queen would bring flack also because their is long history between Americans and the French and it isn’t the greatest. So for her to play one of the most well known French figuers from history and getting criticized for is understandable.

My point is that the movie about Selena and Marie Antoinette does have to do with their ethnicity, race and the country they are from.

The story of Marianne Pearl is about a pregnant woman who lost her husband and was trying to find justice. Those people who killed Daniel Pearl killed him because he was an American Journalist. As far as I know Futterman and Jolie are both Americans. And Angelina Jolie is part French like Marianee Pearl, so she would be able to pull off a French accent. Also because she is a mom and just give birth herself, she can relate Marianne being pregnant back when she was in Pakistan looking for Pearl’s killers.

Renee Zellwegger didn’t get flack for playing a Brit in Bridget Jones’ diary.

Halle Berry is not getting flack for playing a White woman in an upcoming movie.

These women are not being criticized and neither should Angelina Jolie.

PUNE, India(AP) An Associated Press freelance photographer says security guards protecting a movie set where Angelina Jolie is shooting her latest film punched and threatened him at gunpoint Friday, in the second run-in between the star’s security and the news media this week. Jolie is in the western Indian city of Pune to film scenes for “A Mighty Heart,” a movie about the life of slain journalist Daniel Pearl.

Most of the scenes are being filmed inside a spacious bungalow in the Pune suburb of Aundh, chosen because the area resembles Karachi, Pakistan, where Pearl and his wife Mariane spent time.

The bungalow is located inside a gated community that has been largely closed to the media.

The photographer representing the AP, Guautum Singh, said he gained legitimate entry to the area and was accosted by security guards after giving Jolie his business card.

Singh said he was down the road from the bungalow when he spotted Jolie in the back of a taxi while filming a scene from the movie. When the filming paused, he said, he put down his cameras and approached Jolie to give her his card, which she accepted through the window of the taxi before it drove off.

At that point, he said he was approached by one American security guard and two Indian guards, all of whom verbally abused him. One of the Indian guards punched him in the face and he swung back, also hitting the guard in the face, Singh said.

Then, he said, the other Indian guard “grabbed me and the first guard punched me again.”

Singh said the first Indian guard then drew a gun and said he would be shot if he did not leave. The American guard did not take part in the scuffle, but witnessed the incident, the photographer said.

Singh said he was then let go, and he collected his equipment and departed. Jolie did not witness the incident, he said, adding that his face was bruised under his right eye but he was otherwise uninjured.

The altercation was not the first that Jolie’s security has had with a photographer since she and Brad Pitt arrived late last week in Pune, where hordes of photographers, television cameramen and reporters have followed their every move.

On Oct 8., as the couple was leaving the Le Meridian hotel where they are staying, one of their security guards manhandled a British photographer trying to take their photo, grabbing the man by his neck and verbally abusing him.

Video of the incident was broadcast on India’s CNN-IBN news channel, and the Hindustan Times newspaper identified the photographer as Sam Relph of Barcroft Media. The newspaper reported the security guard had shouted at photographers to stop shooting the couple and grabbed Relph when he refused to put down his camera.

The couple’s children _ Maddox, 5, Zahara, 18 months, and 4-month-old Shiloh Nouvel _ have accompanied them on the trip to Pune, about 100 miles south of Mumbai, India’s financial and entertainment hub.

Dan Futterman portrays Daniel Pearl in the movie that will be co-produced by Plan B, a production company founded by Pitt and his ex-wife, actress Jennifer Aniston.

The movie is based on an adaptation of Mariane Pearl’s book, “A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl.”

The Wall Street Journal reporter, Pearl, was abducted and murdered in Pakistan in 2002 while researching a story on Islamic militancy.

We only hear one side of the story.

Remember, a judge has to hear both sides.

There are all kinds of WRONG in that story. They must hire some second rate dumbed down ‘reporters’ at UPI….the photog that Mickey grabbed was shooting HIM not ‘the couple’ they weren’t even around. Plus, mentioning Maniston when she is no longer involved in any way, shape or form with the company - using the word ‘founded’ (which I have NEVER heard of EVER! - Plan B was Brad’s baby from the start, her sit-com *ss was just attached so she could get work!) — I mean come on, that’s Brad’s company, PERIOD…and in my opinion, this very BIASED ‘writer’ of this article just blew his/her cover….plus, if this guy is banged up - why not show a picture. I bet there are all sorts of poor eager ragtag pseudo photogs over there willing to step in front of a car, a bodyguard or whomever to rake in some bucks. Till just a few years ago, even in the bigger cities, homes were guarded by the ubiquitous chowkidar, often a tough-looking fellow, carrying little more than a large stick.

Guns, usually old-fashioned two bore rifles, were only found with armed and uniformed — and often old — security men outside banks and such like. For the rest, we all banked on good policing.

No longer. The private sector has taken over maintenance of security, a reflection of the lack of faith in the state’s law and order machinery. But, are we any safer now?

The incident at actor Shah Rukh Khan’s bungalow, where one of his security guards shot another dead following an apparent altercation, underscores the vulnerability of the growing private security system. Both the guards were employees of a private firm, one of many who provide security to companies, individuals and housing societies.

Of the hundreds that come to Mumbai daily looking for jobs, it is often the unlettered and the unskilled who, unable to get other employment, end up as security guards.

Often their antecedents are not verified, to say nothing of their psychological state. Long working hours, usually at low pay and benefits, and a job without any kind of esteem, take their toll on them.

The government has tried to regulate this business which has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years. But while the authorities say the security firms have not co-operated by registering their employees, the agencies claim it is only a few black sheep who are giving the profession a bad name.

Indeed, the employer of the two security guards involved in the latest incident has pointed out that such cases are extremely rare.

While the growth of the sector is inevitable, given the growing climate of insecurity in the city, there is need for strict regulation and even stricter compliance. A security guard has access to homes, financial institutions and other commercial organisations.

He is often armed. It is important that their employers as well as the clients of agencies have a good idea of the guard’s antecedents and his mental condition.

The latest incident should scare everyone. It also exposes the vulnerability of the person who expects to be guarded and is paying good money for it. The industry must clean up its act and the government must ensure this is done. Otherwise, this will not be the first time a guard uses his gun on the wrong person.

What I find weird is that how an AP photographer (not a paparazzi agency) got in this mess? the fact that he hit back at the indian police didn’t help his case, but this situation it’s totally out of control. I think she’s such a fake, she fools some but not me. I don’t find her attractive either, crap, Alba’s attractive, Natalie Portman’s attractive, Angelina? No way. Well, I think her face can look pretty at times, but her body is like a ruler and I think her lips are a bit much.

Angie has got a job to do and she’s doing it. It is nice to see her pictures and know that she’s indeed fine. The approach that they took in Namibia that some people condemned is what the Indians are considering now. The security of the country is going to stepped up. When photograghers are sent from various parts of the world and they cannot get any money shots, they result into writing about happenings around. There is no way that people will be milling around stars like that, that they wouldn’t have an ugly incident unfortunately, the ugly incident will be magnified a million times over. I like the fact that the police acknowledge that the accident was over exaggerated. I am looking forward to hearing that the legitimate news media that reported that Jolie was in the accident retract that statement.

Look at the story I posted. A big bollywood actor’s effigy was being burned and was being maligned by the press for not helping the family of his murdered security guard on September 3…by September 26…everything was okay again.

The Indian press often instigates the public. A recent story was about a man who was denied a chance to file his nomination for the corporation elections, so he tried to set himself on fire after being provoked by a television channel reporter to take the extreme step as a protest….all this for ratings.

Indians are VERY dramatic. I’m not trying to put “my people” down or my country down but I’m being honest.

One actor recently spoke about some Dam being built in one state in India and how it would displace the people living on the property where the construction was going to take place….so what did they do? A politcal party intervened and had a ruckus because the actor is Muslim and the political party (BJP) is made up of very extreme Hindus. They banned his movie in that state….of course the movie became a huge hit and everyone forgot the controversy.

There’s one actor who has a case against him for allegedly being involved in a 1992 terrorist attack in Mumbai…it’s still going on today….but since his new movie has to do with Ghandhi’s teachings and it became a huge hit….everyone forgot about his alleged involvment.

A movie came out about Lesbians and some people went CRAZY and started rioting and buring posters in the streets.

I can give you tons of examples of people being overly dramatic and how the media in India blows it way out of proportion but I think you get the idea.

My suggestion is to just hope they make this movie and come home and all this will become old news.

For example, X and her autumn 05 onslaught occurred while BA were in Canada and during her promotion of her sh#tacular movies; MD, plugging the Sentinel; the criticisms came while they were in Paris; DT, while promoting his book and vodka, disses BA while they are in India; and now X, per schedule, is offering a quarterly report about herself, with a passive-aggressive chaser. Cindy Adams dissed BAMZS when she was promoting her book about her dogs, but I think they were back in the US; some may say that it took stones, but she was promoting a book about loving her dogs… not so sharp, considering she used to be a gossip columnist with a razor pen.

It’s the thing to do, I guess, use BA instead of producing a product that someone would want to buy…

didn’t want to be the first to say it (coz its OK to say things about
your own kind but it would be disrespectful of me in this forum to
say some negative things about Indians here.) But now that
you’ve raised it, I agree with your observations.

I enjoyed working in India but Indians are by and large the most
ARGUMENTATIVE people I’ve had to deal with - and that includes
Americans. Having said that, I rarely felt any malice from the
arguers. They just like to have a good discussion about what ever
it was. Someone always wanted to play devils advocate. I think
they just enjoyed playing with the ideas.

Another thing I noticed was - the more junior the officer, the
more officious that officer. so the scuffle with between the Indian
photo journalist and the Indian security officers don’t surprise
me.

finally, one last point - when clearing immigration to LEAVE the
country, I counted that the immigration officer had 4 separate
stamps, and had to use them about 7 or 8 times on my passport,
my exit card, what ever else I had to fill in. I can laugh about that
now but at the time, waiting to get in or out could be
interminable.

I’ve just watch Taking Lives from our TV. Angelina was really gorgeous. esp. those green cat eyes. I like her eye more than her lips. there was several close-up shot of Angie in this film, she’s totally mesmerizing. no way X can compare with.

Jennifer Aniston lied to the public about the baby issue. You may say, everybody lies. But think Clinton. He got caught lieing to the public about the Monica Lewinsky affair. He was impeached by the house. Why, because Clinton is a public figure. Dont stand out there in front of the media and lied.

In a similar vein, Jennifer Aniston is a celebrity. She should not lie to the public about the baby issue. You cannot even argue she changed her mind about family. The fact that we caught her smoking cigarettes after cigarettes clearly shows she absolutely had NO intent of a baby during the marriage. If there was NO intent of doing something, how can you argue she changed her mind. Lieing to the public INTENTIONALLY is a fraud. Now, mind you, dont get sidetracked that she had the right to choose when to start motherhood. We are NOT talking about whether she had the right or not . We are stating a fact. The fact is “she lied”.

I agree with you in a way,,,,but I think the reason why people think she is the supposed victim, goes back all the way to jan 2004, when tabloids took pictures of Brad and Angie filming a movie and ran with it, by Jan 2005 they announce there seperation, now tabloids will say what they want, but I remember in the beginning everyone seemed to be on both Brad and Jens side, yes tabloids said a bunch of crap, but it seemed the legit media wished both the best, I think that has something to do with the fact that at the time Brad and Jen did not play the game the media wanted them too, at the time they called it the nicest divorce in hollywood history, I remember the people article about their split, it was blamed on work , and the starting of the family thing, still it was kept respectful by the two parties, Brad defended jen in his gq article about the children issue calling it “bullshit” He said such kind things, fast forward to April 2005 pictures surface of Brad and Angelina on a beach in Africa, What did the pictures show? It show what the tabloids wanted it to show, I saw two people, maybe friend, in the beginning of a relationship or trying to figure out where it was going…I can’t stand the double standard, because in Feburary 2005 pictures surfaced of both jen and vince together, in fact vince kissed jen on the check, her pr person said they are just friends, and that was left alone…After pictures came out in us weekly , brad and angie were photographed all over the place, while jen went into hiding, (was she hurt I doubt) but all the while she was talking to Vanity Fair, It is that article that cemented her status as the woman scorned , eternal victim, She took the first shot, I think that it obvious that she cares about her image, she was pissed that Brad moved on with Angelina, everything that she is not a beautiful, secure and strong women, and that is sill her problem, I think jen loved brad, but she loved him even more for what he did for media wise and career wise, I think with the success Brad is having with family life and work, it pisses her of even more, that is why she can’t let go, if brad had married courtney cox then we not be discussing aniston right now, she knows it is her connection to Brad Pitt that keeps her in the headlines, since she split with brad, she has no projects greenlighted. If this is true, You have to wonder why he felt that way because from outward apperances, he had a good life - a new wife, he was at the top of his career yet he was miserable enough to think about offing himself. I think, he realized he didn’t get what he wanted and he felt trapped by the fame and couldn’t do anything else about it.

I found an interesting article about celebrities and suicide and after reading I am very happy Brad Pitt has found a way to turn the negative side of fame into a positive thing. He has found someone to keep him grounded, someone who tells helps him be himself and not be what others want him to be. I wish Jennifer Aniston could read this.

They become public, they lose their inner being completely, and they don’t know who they are except what the public says about them. They depend on others’ opinion they don’t have a sense of their being.

As a celebrity you have been so much addicted to others opinion that your entire thought process is shaped up by the world. If world calls you most desired thing then you are on top of the world. If tomorrow some tabloid calls you worst human being on earth, Your life is immediately shattered. Suddenly you are on a drug ride, depression, Your psychiatrist billing is going up. When you never give yourself a private time to face reality, this is what happens to you. Your fall is imminent. Even if you don’t fall down in the eyes of public you would have fallen down in your own eyes.

Other day I saw Oprah talking in her show about her nude photos. She said she is never worried about her nude photos because she never allowed anyone to take it in first place. Be it in her private life or anywhere else. In such a case where will you find people chasing you? Some things are private and they better be kept private.

Every time celebrity complains about paparazzi I see a subtle joy in tehm about such a situation. Rarely do I find a celebrity who is trying to move without anybody getting noticed and they get noticed. In 99 out of 100 cases they want to be noticed. Ask Paris Hilton if you want? If you don’t want to ask Paris, ask Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Both of them were traveling in Open vehicle and the whole world could clearly see two fair celebrities traveling in a brown world.
