Older‘The Prestige’: Bad Magic Act

Hollywood’s most dashing men, Hugh Jackman and co-star Christian Bale, attended last night’s world premiere of The Prestige at El Capitan Theater in the Hollywood section of Los Angeles, CA. Hugh, 38, was accompanied by his wife Deborra-Lee Furness and Christian, 32, by his wife Sibi Blazic (inset). More pictures in the gallery!
Most of the reviews for The Prestige are bad, which is a shame because Hugh and Christian are such talented actors. But it’s a Christopher Nolan film, so you should go see it anyway! Three reviewers chime in on The Prestige:
- The Hollywood Reporter: “Audiences might enjoy this cinematic sleight of hand, but the key characters are such single-minded, calculating individuals that the real magic would be to find any heart in this tale.”
- Associated Press: “By film’s end, the notion of a rational and satisfying climax has hopelessly disappeared in a silly spiral of one-upmanship and a barrage of half-baked revelations that won’t make you marvel so much as shrug and forget about them.”
- Variety: “Pic insists on a depth of human emotion that isn’t developed — protags emerge as one-dimensional, despite the efforts of two of our best leading actors — amid increasingly elaborate, uninvolving plot mechanizations.”

I had been so hopeful with the cast and the magic between Bale, Nolan and Caine with Batman Begins. I’ll see it anyway, just because I’m stubborn.

CB is basically handsome and sexy, but I HATE his nose. The tip looks like a piece of stretched gum hanging down…….

Can’t wait to see this movie. Love both co-stars, they’re both great actors and sweet eye candy. These critics are nuts or just plain jealous. After reading those reviews I feel like saying: “In english, please!!!”
i don’t think it’s a critic-pleasing movie, but a crowd-pleasing movie.
Christian’s nose looks weird because the angle is odd. He usually looks much better. Here is a pick of him looking good at the Reign of Fire premiere.

Christian Bale is hot, he was great in Batman Returns and the Machinist. I also loved him in Reign of Fire with that other hot guy Matt McConaghey! Matt’s hottness is not as strong as Christian’s!
I just posted on the GMA item but have to say the movie was awesome!! I was worried that I might be confused but Nolan does a brilliant job peeling the story like an onion - I’ve read some critics call it “cinematic magic” and I have to agree - especially when the magic involves hotties like Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman haha…
I saw it and I loved it! It got a great review in my newspaper. But nevermind that - I would have seen it just for Hugh and Christian.
both christian bale’s wife and hugh jackman’s wife are older than their husbands. i believe by about 8 years for jackman’s wife and 4 years for bale’s wife. which i do like…..since i am 2 years older than my boyfriend.
also, i believe hugh jackman’s wife played the mother of christian bale’s best friend, david, in ‘newsies’.
back to CB’s nose…lol…does anyone think it is too thin?? just curious i have a thin nose too!
i ask because i notice he always has a beard…i always put on one too because it makes my effeminate nose look more masculine…without the beard i dont look as tough…do you think CB is the same??
No I dont think so, he probably grows out his beard depending on the movie role. Other wise, I like him clean shaven. Because then we can see his gorgeous smile!
I think that the negative reviews are entirely unjustified. I saw the movie and thought that it was absolutely brilliant. There were so many amazing moments when the two magicians fooled one another! I thought the acting was superb and I love this movie.
