Annie Leibovitz photographs are on view at the Brooklyn Museum starting this week through January 2007. The exhibit is aptly titled Annie Leibovitz: A Photographer’s Life, 1990-2005 and will contain more than 100 photographs. Annie has the knack for making her subjects look irresistible, which is why they are her greatest fans. Check it:
Leibovitz’s 1994 shot of Brad Pitt for Vanity Fair is a case in point. The screen star sprawls across a bed draped in a velvety orange counterpane, in a room with custard-yellow walls and rust-colored floors. He wears leopard-skin pants, cowboy boots and a multi-hued striped shirt open at the chest and unbuttoned at the wrists. With one hand he strokes his long blond hair, while the other lies languorously across his waist. The pose suggests abandon, while the faraway expression in his stunning eyes signals absorption in some deep thought.
Leibovitz and Pitt collaborate on the tableau. The actor’s reverie reveals nothing; he may be trying to remember whether he watered his plants, for all the viewer can tell. He’s a professional, playing the role of “Brad Pitt,” vulnerable and wistful yet comfortingly macho artiste. For her part, Leibovitz draws on the library of art-historical references she must have in her brain. Here, she has posed Pitt to resemble the dead Thomas Chatterton, as rendered by the Victorian painter Henry Wallis.

The Golden Boy

These days, it’s good to be Brad.
To pay the bills, he stars in and produces films, some artsy (Running With Scissors, which he produced, opens today; Babel, in which he stars, is out Oct. 27) and some slick (Ocean’s Thirteen just wrapped filming).
To give back, he helps with Hurricane Katrina rebuilding efforts and speaks out about global warming and poverty.
And at the end of the day, he goes home to Angelina Jolie and children Maddox, 5, Zahara, 1, and Shiloh, 4 months.
The actor, 42, once dismissed as a hunk with chiseled abs, has emerged as one of Hollywood’s most compelling leading men.
“I saw him go from this gawky kid to this unbelievably very solid, confident guy,” says celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz, who shot Pitt years ago and saw him recently during a shoot with Jolie. “I feel like he has an inner life now. Not that the other fellow wasn’t attractive — he was very attractive — but he was a kid. I just think he has grown up.”
Those close to Pitt say he’s riding high, at work and at home.
“I saw Brad two weeks ago,” says pal George Clooney. “He’s in such great spirits. He’s a really smart man who has grown into someone I’m really impressed by all the time. He’s a good friend. And what an amazing dad.”
Though Pitt’s looks still wow the ladies, his appeal now is more than skin deep.
“People love him,” says Entertainment Tonight’s Leonard Maltin. “He’s in a great place and seems to be doing everything right.”

Pitt is ranked 20th in Forbes’ list of powerful celebrities and earns an estimated $20 million a movie.
But he increasingly has gained respect for being more than just a pretty face. To those in the business, his appeal is as obvious as those piercing baby blues.
“He is arguably one of the biggest stars in the world, if not the biggest. Men want to be him, and women want to be with him,” says Jerry Weintraub, who has produced the Ocean’s movie franchise and has been friends with Pitt for years.
Pitt’s career has never been better. He’s starring in unconventional films that show his grizzled side, such as Babel. And through Plan B, he is producing edgy projects such as Running With Scissors and the current box office hit The Departed. He’s also producing A Mighty Heart, starring girlfriend Jolie, 31, as the widow of murdered reporter Daniel Pearl.
In Babel, Pitt plays a helpless husband who tries to save his wife, who is accidentally shot while on a tense vacation in Morocco. Variety praises Pitt for giving his character “weight and strength,” and the Hollywood Reporter calls his performance “committed.”
Bring up Pitt’s name to anyone associated with him, and you hear stories of personal thank-you notes, congratulatory e-mails and a level of thoughtfulness unusual in a star of his caliber.
“Brad is not pretentious. There’s nothing artsy-fartsy about him,” says Running With Scissors director Ryan Murphy. “Brad is incredibly enthusiastic. I heard he’d liked the script, and I met him at the (production) offices, and here come these handmade Prada shoes with Brad Pitt attached. He said something to me like, ‘You’ve got wicked skills.’ ”
That unaffectedness, says Simon Kinberg, who wrote the 2005 hit Mr. & Mrs. Smith, “is kind of an amazing thing. It’s not a game or strategy with him.”
In particular, Kinberg remembers one long day of shooting when the exhausted cast and crew had worked into the night and saw no end in sight.
“Brad, out of the blue, started doing jumping jacks, calling out to the crew, getting everyone’s spirits up at 4 a.m. at some awful diner in downtown L.A.,” Kinberg says. “He was the guy who would cheerlead for the movie — and he didn’t have to. He’s the top, and the energy flows from the top down.”
Pitt doesn’t mind looking less than perfect. In Babel, he goes gray and has bags under his eyes.
This isn’t a star with blockbuster on the brain. Ever since he stole hearts in 1991’s Thelma & Louise, he has had hits (1995’s serial killer drama Se7en, last year’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith), but just as many misses (1997’s Seven Years in Tibet, 2004’s Troy). He has earned one Oscar nomination, for his supporting turn in 1995’s Twelve Monkeys. These days, Pitt mixes it up. He took a pay cut for 2007’s The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, but he’s also reprising Rusty Ryan in the third Ocean’s installment, due in June.
Film historian Leonard Maltin applauds Pitt’s willingness to “sacrifice some of his movie-star persona for the sake of a really good part. What we’re seeing is his willingness, if not downright eagerness, to challenge himself with more demanding and daring roles.”
And that gets major props from Darren Aronofsky, who was ready to direct Pitt in The Fountain before the actor dropped out because of creative differences.
“Brad’s a great guy, and we’re still friendly. We’re OK with the breakup,” Aronofsky says. “Brad’s a really smart, very talented guy. He’s come to a place in his work where he’s doing interesting stuff. He’s looking great. The pretty-boy thing wasn’t my type of hetero joy. I like the wizened Brad now.”
Others appreciate his taste for the unconventional, such as his decision to executive-produce the documentary God Grew Tired of Us: The Story of Lost Boys of Sudan. Writer/director Christopher Quinn had run out of money and says that, without Pitt’s help, the movie would likely not have been made. Quinn, introduced through their mutual friends, met Pitt at his home.
The meeting was casual and Pitt was disarming. But, Quinn says, he “has incredible follow-through. When we won (two awards) at Sundance, he sent me a note saying how proud he was to be a part of the movie.”
The philanthropist

One thing Pitt has learned: Superstardom can be used for good.
Pitt, producer Jerry Weintraub says, is “interested in different things now than he was 10 years ago. He’s really giving back now.”
Since getting involved with Jolie, a U.N. goodwill ambassador, he has become a vocal ambassador for Bono’s One campaign, which seeks to eradicate poverty. He also chairs the jury for the Global Green project, which seeks to reduce climate change by constructing environmentally friendly buildings and cities.
Matt Petersen of Global Green jetted on a commercial flight to New Orleans with Pitt to judge the entrants in a competition to rebuild the city with eco-friendly buildings. Petersen and Pitt spent hours discussing finalists and poring over the applications.
“Some people want attention. He’s low-key and interested to talk to people,” Petersen says. “He’s not afraid to walk into the middle of the street in a neighborhood, walk up to people and ask questions. When people meet him and ask him if it’s really Brad Pitt, he’s very gracious. He smiles and says, ‘Yes, it’s really me.’ ”
Pam Dashiell, president of New Orleans’ Holy Cross Neighborhood Association, met Pitt in July. They rode a bus so Pitt could see Katrina’s devastation himself. Sure, he’s charming, she says, but more important, “he’s just a really smart, good person. He has none of the inflated ego you’d think of when you think of movie stars. He’s straightforward.”
When it comes to his philanthropy, Petersen says, Pitt does his homework. While in New Orleans during the architecture competition, Pitt “went to every meeting, met with local politicians and really wanted to learn firsthand what were the challenges.”
His relationship with Jolie has taken the Los Angeles-based actor to Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum; Namibia, where Shiloh was born; and now India. Pitt and Jolie have set up a foundation and given money to Doctors Without Borders and Global Action for Children. They also pledged the millions publications paid for photos of Shiloh to charities.
One of Pitt’s new pals is economist Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University.
“He’s just wanting to get this right, wanting to be accurate and on target,” Sachs says. “He looks at the evidence and tries to understand the debate. Now I see him as very interested in the environment and the links between poverty and the environment.”

Brad, Angelina on Jaipur trip
Jaipur, October 19, 2006
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt spent their first day in the city closeted in their hotel. The Hollywood couple landed in Jaipur on Wednesday.
Superintendent of police VK Singh, who is in charge of the Sanganer airport area, told the Hindustan Times that the stars were on a personal visit and hence, there was no need for them to inform the police. “They just want to spend some quiet time with each other. There is hardly any security risk, which is why the police have kept away from them,” he said.
A senior city palace security official, Narayan Singh, said that Brad was in the city to shoot for an ad film and his cameramen had spent an hour and a half at the palace.
Sources said Angelina and Brad might take some time out to select a location for their next film. The managers of the hotel where the two are staying were tight lipped about the details of their celebrity guests.

Hi Amaya. I’m reading backwards so I caught your post. I’m sorry I didn’t see your earlier comment about the simalarities between Jon and Angie. There are so many posts here so I had to skim through many of them. I must have skipped it. Sorry.
But yes getting back to the point…I never knew there were so many things Jon and Angie had in common or that Jon was estranged from his father. One mor thing to add to that list is that they were in the same movie together. How could you forget?
You know , I always thought people become fans of actors that somehow reflect themselves. I think the fact that Jon has worked with her and because he has a lot of things in common with her, he can understand where she is coming from.
I’ve also found from reading the comments here at JJ’s that the overall impression I got of Brad and Angelina fans were that there are intelligent, open - minded, culturally and politically informed, and have a great sense of humor. So the fans have a lot in common with Angie. I guess the sayings “You are what you attract” or “you attract what you are” applies in this case.
Jennifer Tilly scared the cr*p out of me. I’ve never seen someone so hyper! Jon couldn’t get a word in. But I’ve also never seen him that young..that’s the only reason I watched that video.

I don’t think BP, who is known for his good taste in clothes, would wear that kind of outfit in real life. But then again, I don’t really know. i only started to pay attention to him since MaMS.

Such a different perspective is written here as opposed to what the tabliods print. I also found it interesting that Brad declined to be interviewed like others said. I also noted that’s he not one to blow his own horn. He’s also not likely to sue people over the rumors they print of him every week nor does he ever feel the need to go on some show to clear his name. He’s never defended himself and there is a saying about …Actions speak louder than words. Simply by staying silent and never refuting the lies printed daily or dragging Maniston’s rep through the mud says more about him than any made up story could. It’s sad to see that a really good person like him gets degraded so much for living HIS OWN life, Yet the fact that “playboys” in hollywood get glamourized and are loved while a person whose wanted kids forever and has made it come true gets bashed?
The man has been a regarded as one the nicest and down to earth people in Hollywood for 15 years and now all of a sudden he’s some cad???
I didn’t even pay attention to him till he got with Jolie last year because I didn’t care for a HW pretty boy either but in the last year he’s grown up. It doesn’t take a lot of research to see what kind of guy he really is as opposed to the guy people NOW make him out to be. I read a lot of blogs and but never understood where all the hate was coming from but I guess it’s from ignorance and the fact that people feel incessant bashing is necessary on blogs. I never saw the sense in bashing the good guy and putting the manipulative fraud on the mantle of America’s sweethearts. But I guess that’s how it works.

The man has been a regarded as one the nicest and down to earth people in Hollywood for 15 years and now all of a sudden he’s some cad???
I didn’t even pay attention to him till he got with Jolie last year because I didn’t care for a HW pretty boy either but in the last year he’s grown up. It doesn’t take a lot of research to see what kind of guy he really is as opposed to the guy people NOW make him out to be. I read a lot of blogs and but never understood where all the hate was coming from but I guess it’s from ignorance and the fact that people feel incessant bashing is necessary on blogs. I never saw the sense in bashing the good guy and putting the manipulative fraud on the mantle of America’s sweethearts. But I guess that’s how it works.

It seems that things are turned topsy turvy when it comes to BP. He is deemed selfish when he moved on with his life; he is deemed as a liar when keeps his mouth shut; he is a puppet when he is supportive of AJ, nevermind that he has a history of being like this with his exes. I guess it’s questionable when his supported is directed toward an independent woman whose focus isn’t toward girly stuff like cheerleading and being a Hollywood starlet.
Deep down, I think some of the haters think that he has too much; he’s too good-looking, even in his ’40s, he has too much money, he has too much intelligence for a man that attractive, and he’s too nice and humble, again, for a man that attractive. Now, he’s revelling in being a father; he’s enjoying that too much, unphased by the lack of ‘me’ time for himself.
BP is by no means perfect, but it was not his fault that the press/publicists tried to paint him that way.
I think someone wanted to know how far apart Jaipur and Agra
are from each other. When I visited Jaipur from New Delhi, I flew
there and it takes about an hour flying time. Although distances
do not appear far on the map, the road system - at least in 1997,
were not great. The car ride from central new Delhi to Agra takes
about 4 hours and it is one of the most hair raising rides of my
life. Its a dual lane highway and you share the road with every
form of transport known to man except the husky sled. So, there
are bullock carts, ox carts, camel carts, donkey carts, bicycles, 3
wheelers, cars, trucks, people walking, a pilgrim literally rolling on
the road.
The best way to see Jaipur, Agra (where the Taj Mahal is located)
and New Delhi is by train. The cities of Jaipur Agra and New Delhi
form the “Golden Triangle” if you like and they are linked by a
special tourist train. I’ve been told that this train which runs the
Golden triangle is luxurious and is the equivalent of the Orient
Express. I haven’t been on the train but I’m told it very romantic.
The entertaiment journalists/reporters said as much when the separation happened. They thought his popularity would diminish b/c his pairing w/ X was seen as a kind of ‘leveler’ for him- not exactly the superlative that many have lobbed at BP/X in the wake of the separation and divorce. ‘Golden Couple’ was a definite misnomer.

The scene is described this way by Life & Style:
Angelina Jolie was in the middle of filming her latest movie, A Mighty Heart, in Pune, India, when something went wrong. The scene she was shooting on Oct. 10 was an emotional one: In it, her character, Mariane Pearl, learns that her husband, Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, has been killed by terrorists in Pakistan.
“Angie literally collapsed while she was filming it,” says an insider close to her. Brad Pitt rushed to her side and called for a break so she could recover, the insider says.
Angie, who was soon able to resume shooting, quickly chalked up the collapse to the intensity of the scene. “Angelina really threw herself into it and was overcome with emotion,” says the insider.
But the magazine reports it has learned from a Pitt family friend that it was actually the third time Angie had fainted in three days. The insider claims that the first episode occurred on Oct. 8, after Brad and Angie’s much-photographed rickshaw ride with son Maddox, 5.
The report details that after returning to their hotel suite at Le Méridien, “Brad said he was talking to Angelina, and the next thing he knew, she’d collapsed onto the floor,” says the family friend. “She just fainted. He sat her up and got her some water, and she seemed fine, but Brad says it frightened the life out him.”
The insider claims that Angie reassured Brad that she was just reacting to the heat and the crowds during the ride, says the friend, who adds, “But Brad said Angelina fainted the next day while just getting out of bed! She was out for only seconds — but she was out cold.” Jolie indeed has a lot on her plate and there have been reports that her mother is ill back in the United States and the two are very close.

JAIPUR: After Pune and Goa, Hollywood’s superstar couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt landed in the Rajasthan capital in a cloud of secrecy and is likely to spend Friday at a fort for the shoot of a commercial.
The couple landed in a chartered flight on Wednesday afternoon and left for the Oberoi Rajvilas resort. While Jolie rested at the hotel most of Thursday, Brad was busy shooting an advertisement for a Japanese company.
On Friday, the couple is slated to visit Bichun Fort, over 50 km from here, for the shooting. Every move of Hollywood’s most famous pair is shrouded in secrecy, with few willing to talk.
According to sources at the City Palace that houses a museum as well as serves as the residence of the erstwhile royal family of Jaipur: “Pitt came to the City Palace alone at around 2.30 pm in a black Skoda car on Thursday and was here for over three hours shooting for an ad film.”
He met some members of the royal family in the palace. Though the management was not ready to divulge any details on the couple, sources in the hotel confirmed that the stars, who checked in at around 3.30 p.m. Wednesday, were expected to stay till Saturday.
Their home in Jaipur, the Oberoi Rajvilas, where former US president Bill Clinton had stayed in 2000, is set in 32 acres of landscaped gardens with pavilions and reflection pools that recall the romance and grandeur of Rajasthan.
Rooms, luxury tents and villas with private pools are clustered around private courtyards in a richly embellished fort setting.
The two have been camping in Pune for two weeks. Jolie has been shooting for Michael Winterbottom’s A Mighty Heart, a film on journalist Daniel Pearl who was abducted and slain by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002. She plays Pearl’s widow Mariane in the film.

It seems that most BAMZS threads start the same way: Jared posts new/old pictures, we all drool and ooh and aah, then by post 500 or so, some twit either from FF or the Maniston thread comes over and stirs trouble, either pretending concern for the children or out-and-out challenging us, saying we are blogging all day, we have no life, we need to wean ourselves from “worshipping” Brad and Angelina, etc etc. We all try to ignore but sometimes they really push the buttons. LOL Wow, I can’t believe that I forgot about Playing By Heart. My bad. Jon’s “relationship” w/ his Dad is similar to Angie’s. When he was 10 his parents divorced and his father basically left his family. As expected he took it really hard and he’s even said that he felt “inadequate”. He’s mother didn’t remarry, as I know of, and he’s even said on the show that she raised him on her own. He doesn’t talk about it in great detail when he’s being interviewed because he doesn’t want to publicize just like Angie said in VF.
Here’s another thing they have in common, they were both outsiders in high school. Even though Jon was the class clown he was picked on for being Jewish since according to him, he was the only Jew in his grade. Also, his birthname is Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz.

Guys you know what its all OK. After Jen on Oprah and the new people magazine I thought it’s over. brad and Jen are no longer connencted. She has moved and and he has moved on. It’s all good. I think that jen is fine and happy and I think the same for Brad. all this stuff about jen and Brad is what like two years old now? time to move on. I
really think that as a group she should move on from all this crazy stuff always connecting Brad and Jen. do you think that you guys can move on. doubt, you sound really nice. So I will answer you honestly by giving you a few things that Jen Aniston needs to do to make me not loathe her very being…..
1) Apologize for the Vanity Fair debacle. Say it wasn’t fair to Brad or Angelina, and admit her vengefulness came from her jealousy at Brad’s ‘moving on’ with another person, and not from him ‘cheating.’
2) Admit that her marriage had been on shaky ground for quite some time, hanging on by a thread, and that they had been apart for most of 2003 and 2004.
3)Tell Brad she’s happy that he’s happy, and wish him the best with his kids and his new life with Angelina.
I really feel that if Aniston were to do this (even if she only did number 3) publicly - the people that assume that she is holding a grudge, is a walking wounded, is being vengeful, or that she hates/dislikes the Jolie-Pitts would immediately dissipate. They’d understand TRULY, that she has moved on. Because right now…what’s being fostered (most likely and in my opinion by she and her agent Huvane) is that the two camps are still at odds, or make that, that SHE and her camp are at odds with Brad (Brad’s could care less).
The fact that close to two years later, she refuses to do any of this - she could have let it leak out that she had congratulated Brad on his becoming a father upon Shiloh’s birth - and belatedly for Mad and Zee- but she has never not in any of her multitudes of press since VF…that let’s me know that Huvaniston is not interested in clearing any of this up….
It let’s me know that this is THE GAME…this stokes the fire, and it keeps interest in her alive….as long as people believe there is bad blood (her camp feels), the more interested they will be in seeing her attain the best revenge, some type of happy life ‘post-Brad.’ The interest is there to compare/contrast with Brangelina. Brangelina is the bell-weather for them…a kind of nah nah nah Jen’s got this or that TOO.
But if she would just say, hold up — I’m not playing. I’m happy for Brad. THAT angle would be useless and over.
But so would the interest in her…because who is she, if she isn’t Brad’s disgruntled unhappy victimized X?
That is why she will never do it. That is why she will continue being shoved down our throats (her personal life covered incessantly in the hopes she gets what Brad has..blah blah)…

Brad declined to be interviewed. How zen. but consider, Why
does he need to talk about himself? Not when he has high profile
friends who are happy to speak for him. Of course his friends
were primed to speak for him. Imagine if you were Weintraub or
Clooney and you get informed by your secretary or assistant that
some reporter he wants to do an article on Brad Pitt and could
they provide some quotes. I’d bet Clooney and the others would
have given Brad a quick call and asked if it was OK to speak to this
reporter. They are friends and they know how the game is played.
That would be a courtesy. Alternatively, it was Cindy Guagenti
who directed the show - coordinated the calls, the people to that
the reporter could talk to.
But of course, perhaps Brad didn’t prime everyone of them. The
reporter spoke to David Aronofsky - someone who could rightfully
be pissed off with Brad. He spoke to Pam Dashiell, from New
Orleans, someone who is not familiar with playing the media game.
and I can’t see her being in the habit of giving Cindy or Brad a
quick call about anything.
But notice how none of these people who gave quotes had
anything negative to say about anyone or anything. Just focused
on the present and the positive. The positive changes in Brad
and his life since he met Angelina - be it career, charity or
children. No need to be vindictive, to drag anyone down, to lower
yourself. This is how you use friends in an interview.

I agree with you. I’m tired of Aniston and Jolie/Pitt being interconnected. I never thought the relationship between Pitt and Aniston was all that, even from the beginning and now that it’s over I really don’t want to hear about their former connection anymore.
To me Pitt is the geniune article. If I could find a man just like him, I’d marry him, really. I think he’s just that great. I love him with Jolie and I just want to focus on that.
I don’t hate Jennifer Aniston either though and I could care less anymore how she manipulated the media.
